Met Liberty at the Delaware drum show when a companie im involved with had a booth next to him. He was signing books and a young man with disabilities came up and asked about a certain part he played. He came over to us and asked to play one of our kits to show the young man the part. Absolutely genuine person Liberty is.
Probably my favourite thing about Rush, outside of their music, is how Geddy and Alex were always willing to take part in silly projects. Especially Alex appearing in Trailer Park Boys multiple times.
Every other band that toured with them always said they loved to smoke weed and goof around after gigs. Part of their charm is that while they took their art very seriously, they didn't do the same when it came to their status as a band. Always humble, always had each other's backs, and always gave their audiences everything.
LOL! Thanks for this. Geddy Lee sang on this album because (1) Bob and Doug's album was released on Anthem Records, Rush's label and (2) Geddy was a classmate of Rick Moranis (who plays Bob). The Great White North was a sketch on SCTV, Canada's version of SNL, which included may comedy greats, including John Candy, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Catherine O'hara, Martin Short, and others. Note that Ian Thomas, the brother of Dave Thomas (who plays Doug), was quite a successful Canadian pop/rock singer.
There was a short-lived sketch comedy series in 1984 called The New Show. Was kind of oddball as it was produced by Lorne Michaels during his exile from Saturday Night Live. It had several SCTV alums as regulars or guest stars, including Dave Thomas, Catherine O'Hara, John Candy, and Valri Bromfield. Also a few former SNL cast and guests like Steve Martin and Gilda Radner.
Liberty is a bea, I met him at a clinic at Humber College. Such a nice, upbeat guy. A bit deaf lol but one if those people you feel inspired by. He has so many stories and is such a big, cool personality. He hits the drums and you feel the impact in your bone, he really lays into that snare drum.
🇨🇦 Had a blast exposing our kids to part of their Canadian Heritage! I had the LP growing up and watched the show! Brought a smile to this Canuck's face!
Liberty is such a cool guest, but also massive props to the techs and engineers, the drums sound so good and are mixed perfectly with the rest of the music. Merry Christmas Drumeo
I totally love Liberty. Totally awesome drummer, but he’s hilarious too. Awesome Canadian song to cover!! Love Liberty’s interpretation of this track. He always knows exactly what to lay down - nothing more, nothing less. Props to Geddy, but I loved Liberty’s spin on it.
I'm from Michigan, my Grandpa was from Canada and this song was my introduction to Rush. This song is formative to me for both rock and comedy. Thanks.
I just heard a Bill Bruford interview where he said 2 mind blowing things... Bill had never broken a drumstick, and Liberty used to break cymbal STANDS
Local radio played the whole album one night. I put a cassette recorder in front of my clock radio and made a *terrible* recording, which I then listened to hundreds of times...
Many many years ago at a Beatles fan convention in NJ, on the last day the drummer of the house band had another commitment. Liberty sat in for him. I got to watch him from the backstage area because I was friends with the organizers. In person I've never seen someone hit the drums as hard as he does. Needless to say he was amazing.
I pop in the Strange Brew DVD about once a year, even if the theme song does have cheesy 80s synthesized drums 😂 I discovered Liberty on the Hired Gun documentary; what a great drummer!
Love Liberty, I had the pleasure of meeting him years ago when my band was recording at Doug Stegmeyer's house back on Long Island. Very authentic nice guy.
Geddy and Alex have always been proper Canadians always willing help a fellow Canadian out with their projects. This is one of my favorites, and the stuff they did with Trailer Park boys is so hilarious. It's too bad they weren't in any Letterkenny.
Damn I miss Bob and Doug.. I have to go find the movie Strange Brew and watch it ASAP!!!. This was fantastic. I love the light hearted nature of this one
Wow! Merry xmas to us!! Liberty, my earliest drum god, playing behind my fav singer! Never thought I could be this happy. Geddy really kills it too. Goofy stuff aside, you can hear what the nonstop touring did to his voice. Powerhouse vocals.
I now have two new goals in life. Number one, meet Geddy Lee and offer him 10 bucks to tell me, “Take off. “ The second and more serious goal, get Liberty, Geddy and Alex in a room together and make some music! Liberty is a treasure and probably one of the few drummers that plays as hard as Neil did!
The great white north record was in my house as a kid. Loves these guys , eh. There’s a bronze statue of Bob and Doug with stubby elsinore beers at Rogers arena in Edmonton. Merry Christmas Hose heads .
At first I was guessing this would be the 12 Days of Christmas, and wondered how you'd play drums to that. I had completely forgotten this song existed, so thanks!
Coupla things. Love Liberty DeVito. He hits the drums like they said something bad about his wife. And is it just me or does he sound like a nicer version of Larry David?
WHOA John Rutsey played drums on the song "Takeoff" by Bob and Doug McKenzie and Geddy Lee from Rush: John Rutsey: A Canadian musician and founding member of Rush, Rutsey was the band's original drummer. He died in 2008.
I got this album in a pile of vinyl from my grandad (long story, he knew a man who ran a record exchange and would get piles of records from him that he couldn't shift), and I recognised Rick Moranis on the cover, but being in the UK I'd no idea who Bob & Doug were, what the whole "Canadian, eh" thing was they were doing, or who Geddy Lee was. But I remember hearing this song and thinking "that guy can sing!"
Literal tears of joy that this piece of Canadian history is being showcased. Proud Canadian here 🇨🇦
well, you will be an american soon as soon as trump annexes canada LOL
Seriously? It’s just a song by a couple of comedians. You Canadians are often disturbingly similar to the Americans with your misplaced nationalism.
@@noitallmanazWe already been North Americans, and the history remains the same, so ...
Not Canadian but I love Bob and Doug McKenzie
Very catchy song. I've listened to this with Liberty playing on repeat 🤟

I love Neil's cameo in the Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie.
@ The drum solo of life!
Alex was hilarious as a border agent in a indy vampire movie called "Suck".
Geddy also did a tobogganing public service announcement on Rick Mercer Report…
"Take off, you hoser!" 🤩
Yeah Eh, take off. :D
I’m not your buddy, friend!
You Take Off Hoser! (Respectfully Eh)
So glad I'm not the only one old enough to remember this 😂 beauty, ehh ?

And I'm sure the 10 bucks didn't hurt...
YES!!! BOB AND DOUG AND GEDDY LEE. Also, Geddy's highest topping song on the charts
His highest charting single, really kind of ironic.

I havent heard this in year's. Totally forgot it existed. Brings back memories as a 9 year old.
SCTV!
Liberty is so kind, funny and humble. He played drums on some of the most Iconic, Inspiring and Heartfelt music ever.
Thank you, God bless you~✨
I love this song. I was a teenager when it was released and I laugh every time I hear it.
Their 12 days of Christmas is iconic!!!
A beer
@@jonathanbouthillette753 iiiin a tree. eh? Don't forget the dog fight in a submarine
"Ten bucks is Ten Bucks" my favourite line on the album.
I totally love this! Good day eh. BTW: Geddy and Rick Moranis went to school together.
Liberty's infectious energy thrown in with Geddy and Alex would be a BEAUTY collab.
Agree

Such a fun episode!😂
This had me smiling the whole way through :D
A beauty, way to go Liberty.
I just heard a Bill Bruford interview where he said 2 mind blowing things... Bill had never broken a drumstick, and Liberty used to break cymbal STANDS
Yeah that's a different level of power
I've never broken a stick either, I dont hit hard but hit plenty of rimshots, they don't even fray up there , I play 5A's
This made my day. I haven't heard this in decades.
Take off! OF all the things I'd never expect to see covered here! What a blast!
As a kid I had this Album on 8 track, lol. Remember record and tape clubs? 13 Albums for a penny! What a time to discover music.
vinyl for me... grade 5, i think...
@@opiumdennis7249cassette
Colombia House - that's how I first heard Rush. 2112. Changed my friggin' life.
@@peternicholas2393 Sweet! I found AC/DC and Van Halen among several others.

Considering today's date I figured you'd be doing Bob and Doug's awesome version of The 12 Days of Christmas. But this was good too. Happy Christmas.
“…and a beer on my knee.”
That's a true Canadian Christmas classic!!
Merry Christmas from Calgary. You brought back some great memories from my youth. Cheers
This absolutely warms my heart. Brilliantly done.
Great! Now this song is going to be in my head for the next 5 years again! Thanks!!!
I know, I'll be randomly telling people to take off for a week 😂 I sent this to a Canadian friend. 🤣 Beauty, ehhh ?
The perfect topic and the perfect drummer for the topic! GeddyLee’s biggest hit single!
I approve a collab with Liberty, Lifeson, and Lee. No need to reproduce Rush, just 3 funny, master musicians kicking ass. Who's with me?
I am. They should do Rush songs too
Had that cassette. Listened to it constantly. Long live SCTV.
I still have it! 😂
I rewatched Polynesian town. Then of course Johnny La Rue's Street Beef Christmas episode.
Liberty is a pleasure to watch. A real pro. He knows when to yield and pop.
Loved Bob and Doug when they were on TV.
Icing on the cake when Geddy joined them ... classic 🤣
Strange Brew is on Amazon Prime currently, a must see!
Beauty, eh
This is the best one yet…keep it up Drumeo!
We all called each other "hosers" and ended sentences with "eh?" for about two months after this one came out. Funny, innocent times.
I pop in the Strange Brew DVD about once a year, even if the theme song does have cheesy 80s synthesized drums 😂 I discovered Liberty on the Hired Gun documentary; what a great drummer!
What a beautiful drummer Liberty is, nice snare sound too!
Protect this man at all costs he is truly a Legend and a treat for everyone!
"everywhere shit can be downloaded" is an amazing sign off line
Great song. Great comedians. And Geddy Lee… so subtly hilarious.
LOVE these videos. Thank you all!
This is great! Merry Christmas!
Ok I really want to hear a song by "Slow Down a Bit, We're in no Rush"
Absolute BEST choice of a song for this feature. So important not to take ourselves too seriously.
Hilarious!!!! Nice way to start the morning! Merry Christmas, all! And thank you for the channel.
Merry Christmas Steve!
I thought everyone, over a certain age, has heard this song by now. Love Bob & Doug, they rule!!! And Liberty is a character 🤣
I got to meet and talk ith Liberty at The Cape Breton drum festival a few years ago ...great guy great drummer
I still have this on vinyl!!! Must have watched the movie 100 times growing up.
Love Liberty, I had the pleasure of meeting him years ago when my band was recording at Doug Stegmeyer's house back on Long Island. Very authentic nice guy.
I got to hang out with Liberty a few times. Great drummer and an even better human.
Happy Holidays, Hosers!
YES!!! I owned this album, and loved it.
MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone and a happy new year. Good day eh.

Damn I miss Bob and Doug.. I have to go find the movie Strange Brew and watch it ASAP!!!. This was fantastic. I love the light hearted nature of this one
Such good memories from childhood. This was awesome.
Nothing extravagant, just supplying a groove where it's needed - tasty hi-hats in the right places and a simple but effective solo. Great stuff!
Can't wait for the No Rush album! I'm sure it will TAKE OFF! 😂
IT's never Christmas before I hear Take off
Wow! Merry xmas to us!!
Liberty, my earliest drum god, playing behind my fav singer! Never thought I could be this happy.
Geddy really kills it too. Goofy stuff aside, you can hear what the nonstop touring did to his voice. Powerhouse vocals.
Myyy Gooodness! Liberty catch a vibe and a groove pretty nice that fit at all. Experience years behind of a drummer kit
Had this album. Classic!
I love this more than I can express.
I wore a new groove on this song/record back in the day.
One of the greatest jams of all time!
Can we do just a whole special series of Liberty DeVitto Dude is so funny and incredible at the Drums
I very much appreciate that you maintained the stereo separation on the track and in the video in general. Sennheisers made me trip on that.
Yeah man…..just found you guys…..🇬🇧 just binged watched your whole channel, almost im tearing through em . Entertained me for hours
