Nice video! I always like it when people sync the editing with background music because not only is it fun to watch but it takes more work and I appreciate it. Just little things like that are when you know people put effort into their videos :)
I love the drone triggers. Have one in my bass drum and it’s awesome. I also really like how the wraps came out. The difference in silver tones is noticeable but still charming. You should be proud. It all looks great together. Inspiring.
Very nice my brother and well done! You are inspiring. I have some modifications I’ve been wanting to do to my drums for some time now but been putting them off. I think I’ll go ahead with them. You truly are “ the man”. Your kit looks great BTW.
I'm back! Just subscribed... Was surprised I wasn't. This set sounds great! Right now I'm trying to figure out whether I'm getting the Yamaha/Tama or PDP mini bop kit. Yamaha has that FT snare but I've only heard it sound good in one or two videos. And then there's Tama... I feel like Tama and Yamaha have incredible quality control but Tama has them beat right now with finishes.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop Question. I saw you take the digital snare trigger out and wrap the shell. Is it possible to take that trigger and place it in a different snare shell all together? Or are there complications with doing that?
Yeah, pretty sure you'd be able to. The main thing to watch out for is probably that little white plastic insert that holds the trigger in place in the shell. There's a chance it might move about without that, but it also might not, I'm not sure haha! Pretty sure people have mounted other Roland baskets in their acoustic shells successfully before.
just got a chance to watch the full video. LOL THOSE MICS!!! haha, that's some serious high fidelity! Samples came out great! Those Club-JAM mini kicks actually sound quite amazing acoustically. BTW, where did you get the hoop guards? I'm using the pintech rubber stuff, which kinda sucks. Those look much nicer.
Haha I know, right? Something like £15000 worth of mics for some "decent" sounding samples 😂 using a better room would have yielded the best results but it did the job for my first go haha! The hoop guard is actually just an Evans EQ patch, the nylon one (same as I used on the head). Was just improvising with what I had!
It's a very inspirational project, thank you! I'd like to know the electronics that connect the Roland Head Trigger Basket's piezos to its USB output connector, but I've never found a schematic. Would you be so kind as to explain it in a next video?
I got it from eBay and I believe the search term/name was something like "cinnamon cherry woodgrain". It's just a vinyl wrap which is self-adhesive, so not a "proper" drum wrap and I just wrapped over what was already on the drum. It was nice and cheap though, got enough left to do more if I need to.
I haven't worked that out yet because I haven't been gigging. I was using the 16" conversion and an Alesis Strike floor tom pad when I was gigging before and it was a tight fit in the cases, not gonna work for this!
I got 2 of them from eBay - the "cinnamon cherry woodgrain" and "Oracle 8300 tint" wraps. The glitter wrap came from a local store. All of them are just cheap self-adhesive vinyl wraps.
That's a great conversion! I'm looking for a used tama club jam for a while to convert it, but I didn't find one yet. Do you know other kits which have the same sizes, especially for the bass drum?
Thanks! 🙏 The rack tom is 12x5, first floor is 13x6 I think, then 14x5 for the second floor. The side snare is 13x7. I realised after putting it all together that every tom conversion was original a snare drum!
Do you have any videos explaining the triggers you use inside the drums? I’m trying to convert my own tama cocktail-JAM kit but the upside down bass drum is proving to be difficult. Inside sensors like you have would probably be my best bet
Thanks! Yeah, that's something that only occurred to me after finishing the video 😂 I had a look at it and it seems like it might bring the colour closer but lose more of the sparkle, but I'll try it out properly on one of them at some point! 💪
@@TheeDrumWorkshop true. Honestly they look good enough to do an indoor gig right now. In the dark with the lights I don’t you could really tell unless you were looking for a difference. Outdoors might be a little more obvious. Seriously, nice video. The drums look and sound great.
I bought them directly through Mike from DRONE. I spoke to him over Facebook messenger from his DRONE Trigger System FB page. He doesn't use FB all the time so might take a while to respond and I think he either just makes to order these days or makes some of them and sells what he has, not 100% sure. He also sometimes puts stuff up on eBay under the seller kittoys-2012
It's ok. To be honest, I thought it would feel better quality for the money (around the same price as the Protection Racket one I have for my acoustic kit and that is noticeably hardier).
You should just get a carpet from Lowes or Amazon that’s the right size. It seems like those drum carpets are just too thin! I would never use one because they’re so thin. Rock on!
Question about the drum riser. When I use a bass drum lift, the beater goes way beyond 90 degrees. How did you get the riser and the beater to work so they can hit approx 90 degrees? When I get the pedal closer, the chain of the pedal starts to hit the rim. Thanks!
I've got a Tama kit I'm not using, considering converting it to full electronic. It'd be for live performance, so I'd want it to be as good as possible, but am also strictly budgeted and lost in the options of triggers. What are your bullet point recommendations? Ease of installation is also a fairly big deal, as I'm completely inexperienced in this.
I bought the wood grain wrap from eBay - got one from Amazon first that was a bad match, ended up searching around for a "cherry wood" vinyl wrap for the colour. The silver wrap was from a local shop but it's pretty much everywhere online and the tint wrap from eBay (though it's also available on Amazon and many other sites, the brand was Oracal and it's the mid-grey tint).
Thanks! I'm using the Goedrum hi-hat controller, along with a Yamaha PCY135 cymbal pad (just the pad, their hi-hat controller doesn't work on Roland modules). I usually use an FD-7 foot controller and have been using a Lemon 15" cymbal as my hi-hat for a few months, but I fancied swapping back to the Yamaha when pairing it with the stand.
I already own a club jam mini that im thinking of converting. Do you have any affordable recommendations that require a bit less elbow grease for kick drum conversions?
I've not tried a ton of kick triggers, but I reviewed an Oval one that was cheap and worked well a while back. I've not used the Jobeky ones but they seem quite reasonably priced. A lot of the available options should most likely perform pretty well, kicks are the simplest kind of trigger since they're just one piezo that can be offset, unless you're aiming for some kind of larger dampening solution.
I made a 20" conversion with a Silentstroke head. 2 pillows inside. Evans eq patch to protect head. Ported front head. Roland rt10k external trigger mounted at 12 o'clock. Triggers surprisingly well and is very quiet. Feels as good or better than the kd140 and kd120 that Ive tried.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop hi, do you think it is possible to disassemble the roland pd140ds digital multi trigger and mount it on a normal acoustic snare drum? ... obviously by mounting a mesh head on it
Hey! Yeah, it should be easy enough. Once you take the head off, there's just a little plastic stopper in there that needs removing to get the trigger basket out. Then you could place it in another shell (it just sits over the bearing edge). The only difference between the Roland shell and your own will be that I think the plastic stopper is meant to stop the trigger basket from spinning round, but I don't think it'd be a big deal at a guess!
It is, though it's a hi-hat cymbal pad with the Goedrum controller (Yamaha controllers don't work with Roland). More about it in this video - ruclips.net/video/WP8isQvO0Go/видео.html

Why didn’t you get the electronic drum rug with the cables holes?
Nice video! I always like it when people sync the editing with background music because not only is it fun to watch but it takes more work and I appreciate it. Just little things like that are when you know people put effort into their videos :)
Thank you! 🙏 Yeah, as soon as I started doing that, I realised how much better things flowed and now I can't stop 😅
I read your comment and at the same moment I checked the video for sync and it was nsync, awesome !!! 🔥🔥🔥

Ahh, thank you so much! 🙏 Yeah, I'm a big fan of the DRONE triggers! They work well and feel great.
I've never watched this video before. Good to see you have some DIY in you!

Wow! That was such a cool process to see. I’m inspired to try and change the wrap on my drums!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Definitely give it a go if you fancy a change!
Thanks for the video! I'm planning on building a similar kit; and this video is the proof that it can be done.
Good Job. I hope soon people can make own drum modules. Cheers !
That would be great!
That kit looks fantastic!
Thank you 🙏
Great video Luke. Really enjoyed it!
Great job Luke!
haha, nice now you have my same kit! I'm using all external triggers though so I can easily swap back to acoustic!
I noticed that on one of your videos the other day! Great minds 🤓
Enjoyed the video. I can see your video editing and production game has gone up.
Thank you 🙏
