Thanks Harry, this explanation of the little squat is brilliant. I had to think “how are you going to jump - you have to go down to go back up” it’s the only way my body will do it. Feeling that pressure into the ground on the tail foot is perfect and pushing off it as well as the lovely wide take away drills. Dead arms coming down makes the whip feel so easy. Terrific teaching style. After all these years and fabulous equipment, people are still struggling with the golf swing and not really getting any better but watching you is going to change that for a lot of us. Thanks again! 👏🏻
Really appreciate your comment, thanks you, looking forward to help more an more golfers simply their swings. If there's anything you'd like me to post on the channel, let me know!
Now I understand where the hell my early extension (standing up) golf swing problem came from. Thank you, Harry. Have subscribed your channel as I intend to learn more golfing techniques from you.
Hi thanks for commenting, pleased to read you've been able to limit this early extension in your golf swing. If there's anything you'd like me to cover next do let me know!
Hi Chris, thanks for commenting, really pleased you've enjoyed watching this video with it being your go-to golf swing video. Have you managed to give this a try at the driving range yet?
A thorough "walk through" Harry on how to start the downswing with the lower body! I like the wide take away that you are suggesting as well as the "hands down" drill that goes along with it. I like the idea of pushing the arms away from the body on the way back. The "free fall" or "gravity pull" of the club on the downswing is something I've been working on. It definitely adds "nonmanipulative" power to the golf swing. As Usual, Well Done Harry!!
Thanks John, really appreciate your comments, pleased to read you found the takeaway move (pushing of the hands away) and letting the downswing move with the arms to be a 'free fall'. How is your golf going at the moment?
Last week, not so good. I was lacking concentration and my score reflected it. I know better!!! A lot of rain in Los Angeles, so no golf this week. Hope to resume next week with a different bag set up! Thanks for Asking Harry!!!@@harryshawgolf

Hi thanks for commenting really appreciate your comment and I'm so pleased to read you've enjoyed the video. Have you managed to give this a try at the driving range yet?
That’s great to read Frank, at first it’s not going to be an easy move to accomplish in your game in terms of accuracy and consistency, you’ll notice the distance first which you’re already seeing, so keep practice this and keep me posted!
Even better explanation than the one on disassociation you did Harry. I have the feeling that the push from the trail foot is similar to the effect of a Happy Gilmore shot? If so, I think it will benefit me, because if I do that HG shot, my swing speed goes up a lot. 'Switching off the arms' translates for me as 'stop thinking' and keep my wrists 'dead' to avoid (duck) hook.
Hi yes, this is a very interesting effect you belivee this has, but. i like it a lot. i suppose you could do a few practice swings in between shots using this technique to be able to implement the added pressure into your actual swing?
@@harryshawgolf I did pay attention to my right foot pressure in the downswing last weekend on the range. I noticed I do apply some pressure already, but was never conscious of it. Didn't do any experiments yet on increasing pressure, I was too busy delofting for more compression (which worked!)
Hi Richard, thanks for commenting, pleased you've found this video useful to suit you golfing needs, have you managed to give this a try at the driving range yet?
@@harryshawgolf Hi Harry, just got back from the range. Can really see the potential in using the ground as you describe and focussing on left hip going back. For the first time ever it felt like I had more space, better weight transfer and definitely gave a visual distance increase with the 8 iron, just need to put the reps in. Thank you again
No problem Richard, it's great to read you're already reaping the rewards for using this move in your golf swing, keep going, keep me posted and if there's at any point you need some more advice on your golf swing, I'd be more than happy to arrange a zoom call with you to come up with a plan for the season ahead. Hi Jay, thanks for letting me know your great round of golf after watching this video. Pleased to read it's worked great for you, how's the golf been since?
I also have similar question regarding user asking about pros stepping down foot like u described at 12:20. Would you start downswing with your method halfway into backswing? Also, with your method of downswing, wouldn't it have less compression on the ball compared to starting to shift your body to your left/stomping with foot halfway through backswing?
So the problem a lot of golfers have when they fire the hips first is that because they're limitations in mobility and flexibility their shoulders follow the hips during the downswing phase. So that’s causes us to get too far over the plane. With this method i'm teaching, the club will force down towards the ball as you push back upwards... give this a try and you'll feel the move taking place.
Wonderful insight but leads to a vital question: what about the force plate data that shows tour pros shift pressure to lead foot halfway through backswing?
They’re able to do this, and this is right, however, it’s the fact that they are so strong and flexible/ mobile they’re able to create huge amounts of separation (increase the X factor stretch) that allow them to do this. If your older, less mobile and struggle with flexibility, you’ll get the upper body following the lower body during this transition move and more likely swing over the top.
I would suggest taking a look at this video here once you've gotten used to the feel of this body working in the correct motion... which will help you get the wrist and positions working in your favour... ruclips.net/video/hwfNuUh9yL0/видео.html have you managed to give this a try at the driving range yet?
That's great to read thanks for letting me know, when you mention a tad long, is there anything you can point out in particular for to improve future content?
I have found today that I can start with my lower body easily (seems to “come naturally”) using my irons but struggle to with my driver. What feels like the same swing that works great with an 8 iron, with driver either results in a pull if I close the club face (which I can) or a slice if I don’t (which I also can), but the elusive straight shot seems to rely on the hands closing the club face just the right amount and I’m sure the inconsistency is due to starting the swing with the upper body. If anything this is worse later on in the round. Any hints on the differences between irons and driver with this?
Thanks for commenting with what you've been working on, yes this is certainly much easier with the irons as you're swinging slower so much easier to time as well as irons being shorter clubs, easier to control. For the long clubs, i'd recommend taking a look at some of the driver videos i've posted, there's a playlist dedicated to driver tips but for you, i think this will come in handy... ruclips.net/video/XOXzvZgJ2yw/видео.htmlsi=zYiIcaXZaFWYz0xK
I employ a strong grip. So I need to focus on lead-wrist flexion and trail wrist extension at the top or on the way down. Any advice besides trying to set those position very early, which seems to upset my fairly decent takeaway?
Hi, thanks for commenting, so for anyone who plays golf with a strong grip must be able to control the club face throughout the downswing, so this video you've just watched will help with the body movement, however, for a more thorough explanation specifically for players with stronger grips you'll want to take a look at this video here which will talk about how to play golf with a strong grip (the techniques) using the driver, but this will teach you how to use this technique with the irons also... ruclips.net/video/ygsBUD3zWjs/видео.html let me know how you get on after watching the video!
This is so gray to read thanks for commenting, it’s great to also note that you’ve immediately felt and seen the difference, and yes this is going to take some time to get used to but as long as you can feel the difference in your swing then the benefits will come, just stay patient and it’ll happen! If there’s anything else you’d like to see on the channel let me know, you can also follow me on Skillest if you’re ever looking for personalised tuition. Thanks again!
