    I’d argue this is the best 500 ever. Not necessarily because of the racing, but the crowds enthusiasm, FOX production was at peak performance, awesome infield SkyCam addition to the broadcast, and so much more

      I was at this race in the backstretch stands when junior cleared tony going into 1, and you see the camera shaking. Those backstretch stands were moving under us because so many were jumping up and down and screaming. Was the greatest 50 seconds or so being at a racetrack ever

    The most aesthetically pleasing Daytona 500.
    Cars never looked better, FOX graphics were their best- and it was also unique, for it was the only Great American Race where Dodge Chargers raced Ford Tauruses.

      I feel the 00- 04 cars looked the best. Especially with the aero package they used in late 00 at Talladega and throughout 01 for all of the plate races. The cars actually had similar shapes that looked like the street cars. These have those big (bumpers) on the front and they kind of look like a reversed snow plow.

    This was a fine graduation present, I was to graduate high school that spring and to have Jeff Gordon win this race was the thrill of a lifetime. The only win at Daytona for Jeff Gordon in the flames. But I loved Fox's graphics package and segments at that time, it boggles me why they never kept these graphics.

    I was at a friends birthday party and we had this in the background. I was the only person there who was a truly invested fan, but I remember sitting watching this race with 12-15 other friends, most which I didn’t know were interested in sports, all being mesmerized by this. We all went to school the next day and talked about it to others who weren’t there, and they were all genuinely interested in the conversation.
    If we did that now, we’d be laughed out of the building, I miss these days, simpler times

    Best production quality of any Daytona 500. If every race had this kind of effort put into it, it would definitely get a few more people watching at home. Not enough to bring back golden era levels of viewership, but probably enough to stabilize Nascar's ratings.

  • @FallingPicturesProductions
    @FallingPicturesProductions 8 лет назад +10

    In the debate as to 'What Daytona 500 was the greatest', I'm amazed that this race dosen't show up more often. The closing quarter alone was a virtual name of the 'who is who' of great drivers from the 90's and 2000's. Stewart, Johnson, Martin, Wallace, Marlin, Dale Jr, Kurt Busch. Even Carl Edwards made a show toward the front end of the field in the closing laps.
    The moves executed at the front of the field were amazing, and expertly executed. In some ways, it was reminiscent of the whole 'Dale Sr vs Everyone' in 1996 and 1993, but with smarter and stronger drivers.

    • @nickdoneilo1551
      @nickdoneilo1551 7 лет назад +1

      I was agreeing with all of your statements until I got to the very last few words. I don't know as if there is or ever will be a driver any stronger and smarter than Dale Earnhardt, especially at this track, Daytona. That is a pretty big insult, in my opinion.

    • @FallingPicturesProductions
      @FallingPicturesProductions 7 лет назад

      Dale Earndhart was unable to deliver a Daytona 500 win, the crown jewel of this track and all of NASCAR, in 22 out of 23 attempts, and even excusing his 1990 failure, that's a whopping 21 failures when he need to be clutch the most. Only Darrel Waltrip and David Pearon come close to having such poor stats, but Waltrip had the sad tale of running a large stint of his last years in uncompetitive equipment and rapidly declining talent (all after his 500 win), and David Pearson was running against consistently stronger drivers in the 500, at a much more mechanically atrophic time, then Dale Sr did. Hell, even in 1990 and 1998, Dale Sr needed the race to be virtually handed to him.
      I'm not saying that Dale Sr was bad at Daytona. He has the most wins at the track for a reason. But when it came to the 500 itself, all his skill seemed to dribble away when he needed it the most.

    Nascar had struck something in 2005 that felt like the perfect balance. The chase was around but it wasn't as chaotic as it was from 2006 onward. Twisted sisters weren't really a thing so the cars were perfect. The drivers, the personalities. The tv coverage was dead on (except for nbc/tnt moving AB to pit reporting :(. Weber did good though) It was just perfect and the peak in attendance and TV viewership showed it. Miss those days

    Its crazy how all these plates races back jn that time of 2004 2005 and 2006 always came down to the end with the same 4 drivers fighting for the wins. Junior, gordon, johnson, and stewart. 04 500 it was stewart and junior. 04 talladega spring was junior johnson and gordon. 04 pepsi 400 was gordon johnson and junior. 04 talladega fall was junior and stewart. 05 500 was all four of them. 05 spring talladega was all four again. 05 pepsi 400 was stewart junior and johnson. 05 fall dega stewart was second but the rest had trouble. 06 500 johnson won, stewart and junior were close behindy 2006 spring dega was gordon, johnson, and stewart. 2006 pepsi 400 was stewart. 2006 fall dega was junior and johnson. They won 10 of the 12 plate races in those 3 years and almost every race multiple if not all of them were right up front fighting for the win. That goes to show that anyone who thinks skill doesnt matter at restrictor plates is dead wrong. There is a reason the same drivers manage to be up front. Now u got denny hamlin up front every time

    Crazy how much they were talking about manufacturers even for 2005. They never talk about it now cut they’re all the same.

    One of my all time favorite Jeff Gordon victories
    However the rest of his 2005 season left a lot to be desired so much so that he failed to qualify for the 10 driver Chase which was the only time he ever missed the Chase/Playoffs in his entire career

    Another race that Dale Jr. should have won. He has several races while his entire time with Hendrick Motorsports that he should have won. Don't talk to me about that 2011 Coke 600 finish.

      craig talhelm I recall Johnson and Stewart beating around a little bit after the checkers, Tony just could not stay ahead of everybody at the end, he had no help to stay up there.

    NASCAR should not have thrown the caution flag with three laps to go in the 2005 Daytona 500.
