I remember SEGA announcing that they didn’t give Beat a “character” because they wanted the players to create their own backstories, which is why he’s the most simple compared to the others in the cast. They also said something similar about Gum.
When you said that Beat had a little bit of a high-pitched nerdy voice and a cheerful yet calm personality, that only made me love him as a character even more! :D

That’s… actually pretty fitting on the Set Jet mentality. I feel that JSR is about the same kind of thing Sonic is… freedom. So Gum having a temporary tattoo so she can be free to remove it and replace the design wherever the heck she wants is pretty fitting.

OH! don't even get me started on the OST; Jet Set Radio Future, was where it was at! - Felt like a, felt like a. Felt like a-a-a, Felt like a, fly, Like a butterfly . (And you're ready to fly) .
Beat felt like the main character of Jet Set Radio, but Yo-Yo felt like the main character of Jet Set Radio: Future, since he is literally in Beat's shoes(skates?) at the start of the game and is the first character we play as -- he's also the only character to have the most prominent role in the story beyond just being a player character.
1: Fun fact: Prof. K is also the voice of the Vampire King in Adventure Time season 7. 2: You're spot on about Beat's voice, it's exuberant and friendly and makes me feel comfortable with him as though I were re-imagining what I was like at that age (ya know, if I were happy and not a miserable mall goth). 3: JSRF is ssssoooooooo much easier than JSR, it did for me exactly what you're asking for from a remake (ie made it playable). Try it!
Honestly this'll probably get buried in other comments and all that, but I'm appreciative of this series. Half of the things Digi talks about in his videos are games I haven't played, I more or less watched them for fun. But the way he talks about series he enjoys like JSR and NiGHTS actually inspired me to go check out Sega's old IPs. I bought and beat both JSR and JSRF now and I have this video to credit for it. I absolutely adore the titles. Thank you Digi for this great series, and keep up the good work.

Quite a great show, I watch these at night to study what it means to have great character design. I'm an artist myself, and whenever I have trouble designing a character for my stories, I watch one of these videos, and get to drawing. Yeeeeeeeeeeeees, hopefully he also gonna talk about their Jsrf Designs. short edit: Jet set radio future is the game for the original Xbox, with a amazing visuals (even now imo) and sweet soundtrack, it's a bit of the same story but a different gameplay experience
The story does continue but somehow robots and time travel get involved. Also the graffiti is used a lot better allowing you to drive by tag which makes the pace ramp up. As well as the new trick system. Everything is just so smoother.

There's actually some solid info you can find on the Jet Set Radio characters. There was a very obscure guidebook made for the game that for the most part is in Japanese, but there are translations of the character pages. I swear this game is pretty much what got me and my brother into our art, we both were doing graffiti at the time and I always see myself coming back and playing this game over and over. The real game that got me into the series however was Jet Set Radio Future, since it was more recent and on top of that the controller for me (personal opinion) felt good in my hands. Not to mention there was a butload of great music, new and returning chracters, and most importantly the dog. Yes, the dog was the most important thing. Congrats on 3 years DiGi, and also closing in on 50k subs!

I think Professor K's rough around the edges dialogue helps his character, he has a lot of enthusiasm for what he's doing, but he's just starting out so he's not perfect at it at least, that's what i get from it, maybe im not really good at judging performances

JSR anniversary last week..... do a 'Who Dat' on some other characters lmao? edit: there's a theory that Beat is a Rokakku. The manual says he ran off from his family like other rudies some evidence: in Sonic and Sega all stars racing transformed whatever, his all star theme is Grace and Glory people are confused because as far as we know, it's Rokakku Gouji's theme the GGs' name means the Good Guys, but since Beat is the leader, you'll never know if it actually means Grace and Glory, too

The best punch in the face to this series is that Sega was given a new prototype for the series some time late last year and turned it down. Rediculous.
I'm fairly sure the symbol on Gum's leg was only removed due to censorship issues. Also at least we have Hover, which will hopefully continue on where we lost out with this gem of a series. Microsoft might have licencing to it which might be the problem with both a new game and a steam port of JSRF. Though I cannot say that for certain, and of course I hope for a new game one day.

TIM IS DEAD exacly, but it still with the same bad guys etc, and you need to scout everyone again, and people don't recognize each other etc.
JSRF is a reboot of the first game
JSRF was nice but had so many flaws
but i cant play that on my vita lol but still theres isnt any on the switch. so im happy with jet set radio for the vita visuals is still amazing
