    My middle school volleyball team has six players on it, and we have one girl who is just a sub. We have our first play off game tomorrow. Our record is ten three. Every coach for the other team never thinks we can do it. They always think it will be an easy game, but we put up a fight. The school volleyball team hasn't done this good in a really long time. We are in Division one of two, but some teams are really hard to play, especially because we don't get subbed in and out. Volleyball is my favorite sport. To win the game we are playing tomorrow I need to learn to overhand serve, I don't have to, but it would be helpful. This video helped me most.
    THANK YOU

    The end gets a bit complicated but I think you really hit some important points about footing and posture 💁‍♂️
    Also the "routine" of preparing yourself.. not many tutorials mention this and it's actually something worth considering. thanks for this

    Why does my hand kinda slap the ball and make it only go halfway.

    • @kk0rtney23
      @kk0rtney23 6 лет назад +9

      Diamond Emerald ur not suppose to slap it, instead ur suppose to use all ur strength from ur arm (obviously) and the ball will gradually go faster.

    I can do everything well but overhand serving was hard for me because every coach would tell me I wasn't hitting hard enough but really I was step and then lifting so it was going behind me and I was loosing all my power. This helped a lot I was taught to bend your elbow and have your palm facing the right at your ear. Thank you xx

    I don't understand how you get the power when hitting. Is there a quick wrist snap? When I hit the ball, it barely goes over the net.

  • @jbrian53
    @jbrian53 11 месяцев назад

    The power comes from driving the shoulder and elbow forward ahead of the forearm and hand. I've taught a lot of girls how to serve and at first most of them try to smack the ball over the net with their hand and forearm. They get no distance or height. When they try harder in an effort to get power they swing the hand and forearm faster, but still no power or height. Instead, maintain a firm hand and forearm, and drive that hand forward and up into the ball using the shoulder and elbow. As you can clearly see in the video, it's not even necessary to have a long follow-through for this style of serve. The hand can finish straight out level with the floor. In fact, that long follow-through swing gives beginners the (wrong) impression of where the power is coming from. It makes it seems as if the ball is being smacked with the hand and forearm. No, it's a stiff hand and forearm being driven forward and up into the ball by the shoulder and elbow. A strong step forward and hip turn will supply even more power and is often necessary for smaller kids to get enough power to clear the net.

    I really like the entire progression and I coach nearly the exact same progression.. The only thing I don't get is why face your palm outward when your going to strike something in front of you, doesn't it make more sense to have your palm facing forward since you're striking the ball forward it takes out one dynamic in getting the angle of your hand correct.

    • @dwijapatel4209
      @dwijapatel4209 4 года назад

      Im not a professional or anything but I think its so it gives you more power, and to get the angle right you just practice. Because swinging from the palm facing out and the swing towards the net making it face in add extra power.

    • @victorpistone1073
      @victorpistone1073 4 года назад

      @@dwijapatel4209 interesting how turning your wrist 90° can generate more power. My point is why practice getting the angle right when you can start with your hand facing the net and you don't have to worry about getting the angle right.

    • @dwijapatel4209
      @dwijapatel4209 4 года назад

      @@victorpistone1073 I don't know I'm just assuming, I see your point tho but like I said I'm no professional.

    • @jbrian53
      @jbrian53 Год назад +1

      The hand is facing the same direction as the chest/shoulders. When you start, you are standing with your shoulders open (to the right for right handers) and not square to the net. The hand is facing outwards in the same direction. When you rotate and transfer weight forward through the hitting zone the shoulders and hand will now be facing the net. If you are using the serving technique in the video, and find yourself hitting weak serves to the right (for right handers), then you are likely hitting the ball with just the arm and your shoulder turn/weight transfer is either late or not happening at all.

      I wouldn't necessarily say right at the palm, but more rather the "heel" of your hand. If the palm works, go ahead, but I find that the heel gives more power to your serve (plus that's how I was taught)

      +rinnychan8 Serving at the heel of your hand makes the ball more likely to float. It works, yes, but if you want a powerful, ace-worthy hit, it's on your palm.

    I don't serve the way you do but I suppose it's good for beginners until they develop the technique that works for them
