how do you make the static stop when you have the radio on? For example, I bought it new, turned it on, and every channel I change it to there is a constant static noise. First time user, sorry if its a dumb question. Great video !

      Hi Pedro
In order to eliminate the static noise you will need to set the Squelch level - this is a level that is adjustable by the user in order to suppress the output noise from the transceiver.
On the HX-890e the squelch adjustment is made bu pressing the SQL (squelch) key that is located on the side of the radio beneath the PTT (push to talk) button. You then raise or lower the squelch level using the channel up and down arrow keys. The squelch level should be set so that it just cuts out the background noise and no more.

Any idea how I can register it (USCG) so the DCS (?) will work? Instructions and reviews say it has to be registered to a specific boat. I intend to use this in a sea kayak (so I do own a boat) but probably more often in rented sailboats, sailing as crew, etc... I bought this so someone would save my butt no matter which vessel I was on.

Thank you for your question. In the UK the VHF must be registered with Ofcom - you will need a Ships Portable Radio licence and will be issued with a MMSI number to be programmed into the radio. Once the radio is registered it can be used in Kayak, Dinghy, Powerboat or sailboat.
Here is a useful link that should help

Hello, Do you know how to set up the GPS time offset? The user manuel says you need to do this but it does not explain how.

Hi Sara, thank you for your question. If you go to Page 20 of the user manual it will show you how to change the offset there.

Is there much difference with 6 watt over 5 watt..Will you get much further range?

      Hi Iain.
More power = more range - it's very difficult to quantify exactly how much further 1watt adds to the range but at least an extra mile.
