Mine lost volume after 2 years light use. I can still hear it but too faint for practical use. I have put a cockpit extension on my Standard Horizon radio which solved the problem for single handed sailing.

With this, Can I listen conversation on channel 16 on beach, close to inlets or I have to be be close to boats?

Thanks for your question. Receiving VHF transmissions on a handheld VHF radio is not necessarily location related nor reliant upon proximity to a boat, the radio will pick up transmissions on a beach or close to inlets. VHF transmissions are line of sight and a handheld can receive transmissions that are up to 20km away ( depending upon the transmission power of the sending VHF).

Hi. does it have weather status and GPS location?

Hi Steve, sadly the HH500 doesnt have either of those features, the HH600 DSC unit has GPS and DSC functionality but again no weather status. I am not sure that there is a HH VHF with that as an option but the coastguard do give out the shipping forecast at specific times.
You can see the HH600 DSC here

No the HH500 uses a cradle charger which can be connected to either AC power via the mains adapter or 12vdc via the dc cable.
