Well, its from over tyneside really but yeah okay it worked around liverpool and manchester... Nice to hear your accent. Do miss the manchester twang having moved to Australia. Its just a really small loco in real life so it would look really small in model
Hi Jim, that's the standard edition, the Centenary edition came in a Red Tri-ang box with a certificate, the coach sets had different names but otherwise exactly the same. Jenny Kirk has said several people have reported overheating issues with the 6 pin Hornby decoder that caused the water barrel to distort ! Pacadilly Sidings managed to fit a Right Angles Bachmann 6 pin decoder, which I think is the way to go. I managed to get my Centenary Edition from Rails for £170.99 on lauch day before everyone realised how popular it was going to be and the price "rocketed" :)
Hi David, Many thanks for the info, Just got my Lenz decoder which I will fit later...but I do not think it will fit..May have to fit a Esu micro or nano with a wired 6pin plug. Bonkers how hornby models can jump up in price in a short space of time.... Jim
It's a lovely set Jim and as you say the livery detail is superb. After leaving it very late, I was very lucky to find this pack at a retailer still at £170 about a month ago. I have also just ordered 3x the 3rd class wagons as it will be Sod's Law they sell out. Youir packaging should have some nice artwork on the inside front cover. All I need to do now is build my 1960s Airfix kit to match this stunning livery. Aaah - just seen you found the inside cover details :-)
Hi Jim. Very nice - I have one of the Triang Centenary Edition released slightly earlier in the year. I changed it to a Next18 decoder fitting and popped in an ESU Locopilot V4 Micro - a bit fiddly but goes in (the barrel) quite easily. Have a look at RM Web thread for my photos if you wish! To reiterate David's comments below, there have been reports of the Hornby decoders running hot to the point of the heat distorting the barrel! Si
Hi Jim, cool train set, fantastic detailing and the loco is motorized even with a decoder, wow!!! Hope to see it running on your layout. Take care, Dirk
The only thing about it that lets it down is the yellow on the springs. I paid £166.00 inc. postage from my standard version from Hattons. Disappointing to see that businesses must have pre-ordered a lot so they could sell them at vastly inflated prices.
Yeah the springs could be painted and extra micro detailing added ...Its crazy how these models can jump up by say £100.00 above rrp in a very short space of time....I also cannot understand how model shops can sell above the rrp by say £45.00? Jim
I was happy to see you opened this on camera. I've been curious to know if it would be worth the money. It looks like it is. It worries me about trying to get a decoder into it.
Hi Rob....I have trashed a decoder and snapped two wires one under the tender and one on the interface...its a very tricky model to work on.... I will be gutting it and hard wireing a esu nano decoder at some point.. Thanks Rodlb
