The 2017 movie made the typical mistake of modern Hollywood in trying to make a reboot of an old IP gritty and realistic, and trying to turn it into a cinematic universe before the first movie was even proven to be a success.

The reboot movie was probably the best krispie kreme commercial I’ve ever seen, not something you want a power rangers film to be remembered as

Another problem with the Lionsgate Power Rangers is that they made the movie too long and too fake. It should have been 78-87 minutes long and use more practical effects to make it a movie that's worthy of the history books.

Now honestly I see what the reboot needs to accomplish in order not to be like this movie. Thanks man. Also based points, I agree with everything , the crispy cream stuff was stupid

Funny how a year after this, SSSS.GRIDMAN came out and it was better in every way, managing to get two sequels and revitalise the Gridman series after years of being dormant

No offense but ssss. Gridman feels more like a disgrace to gridman making it about two waifus instead of y’know gridman!

8:30 Personally, while I also think reboots should be use on failed projects, I don't see much problem when they are use on good projects, if they are able to tell a story with some improvements and in some new ways. Take Batman TAS, Spider Man TAS and X-men TAS for exemple. All iconic shows from the 90's, but if they followed this "reboots only for failed projects" there would never been other great shows in modern day such as X-men Evolution, Batman Brave and the Bold and Spectacular Spider Man.. Reboots can work for the project as long the responsibles can go good new take on the adaptation.

It is a shame that the 2017 reboot Power Rangers movie ended up a disappointing, generic superhero flick with PR brand slapped on. It did at least improve a couple of flaws from the original MMPR Season 1 such as the main cast not liking each other right away, as well as not everybody excepting their duty as superheroes, and giving Zordon a backstory which was greatly lacking from the original series (even if it still raised questions), but everything else was so drastically different that it might as well have been its own film. It's like they were just trying to cash in on the popularity of the Marvel, and DC Cinematic Universes, and the Michael Bay Transformers films without thinking about what made PR PR in the first place, which is exactly what happens when companies follows trends over making quality products, the product suffers in the end. I also don't understand why Zach, and Trini were race-swapped. If they wanted to be "diverse", just make original characters. Why is it so hard for these developers to understand that. Changing a character's appearance just to be inclusive makes it feel more like they've ran out of ideas. Not to mention they supposedly changing Trini from straight to lesbian since Zack asked her "Boyfriend problems?", then to "Girlfriend problems?" (or maybe it was "troubles", can't remember which exactly), but, they never showed her interest in girls throughout the entirety of the film, so they may as well have just kept her straight like the original character. Overall, while I did enjoy certain aspects of the movie, and greatly appreciated the few improvements over Might Morphin Season 1, ultimately, I didn't much care for it. There was just WAY too many different things that it no longer felt like Power Rangers, and felt more like a cashgrab. And I HATED the fact that they used it as a Krispy Kreme advertisement to the point of Rita herself trying a KK doughnut. And the less said about Goldar being made from LITERAL gold, the better. Hopefully, whenever the next movie comes out, they'll learn from their mistakes from this one on what worked, and what didn't. Maybe you could also talk about the stuff that MMPR The Movie, and the Turbo did right, and wrong in the future! Another excellent review, archer!

I always thought it was a huge deal, and then it came and went. In its harder time in the Neo-Saban era, PR was becoming less and less relavant.

I disagree about the designs and the the movie's tone
Outside from the monsters, I didn't mind the Zords (their design reminds me alot of anime like Evangelion or Darling in the Franxx) and the Rangers armors are improvement over the show's spandex, giving them a more alien looking, which makes sense considering that Alpha and Zordon are from another planet.
As for the movie tone, having comedic scenes doesn't conflict with the serious moments nor vice versa, as long the creators are able to separate and organized both in the film. The movie has fun moments but it's never to point of interfering when things get serious. If the film had a joke happening right in a moment of danger and suspense, I would totally agree.

Rita, in The MMPR series, did NOT create the Dragon coin. The power coins were all forged by Ninjor, see MMPR season 3, Zordon found them and Rita actually stole the Dragon coin. Other than that most of your critiques of the 2017 movie are reasonable.

You know, after Netflix cut off their deal with Hasbro, I just wish Hasbro would sell the franchise altogether and to Bandai Japan. They should let Hideki Anno handle Power Rangers as Shin Power Rangers, just watch.
