RoboCop 1 was OK but The RoboCop original movie sequels were horrible with a big H. The propaganda was so subtle that they almost cheered for a Soviet victory of the Cold War.
Indeed. I love seeing genuine improvement in a team's skillset. Here's hoping they somehow get the rights to Punisher or Deathwish game. Seems right down their alley.
I love the fact that Peter Weller did the voicelines for this game. You can't go past getting the OG actor to voice the role when it comes to a game. Thank you for that!
Played the demo and I was amazed at how the dialogue, the tone and the humour is 100% Robocop. These guys should really make a Judge Dredd or even an Aliens game.

It's really interesting how they managed to make the slower paced movement work. The FPS trend lately has been high speed acrobatics but it makes way more sense for RoboCop to move a bit slowly and deliberately. I'm usually a big fan of complex movement but this still looks pretty fun.
The idea of Teyon just making a bunch of amazing games from these awesome movies that don't get any love (Or the respect they deserve) just sounds like a dream come true. I really hope they get to keep making games with some iconic licenses if they continue to make them just as good as RoboCop.
@@WadaMalone That would be amazing. Or even just playing as the Predator too would be an epic power fantasy, which they seem good at doing in the case of RoboCop. Going out and cutting your way through Xenomorphs with a combistaff sounds so epic.
I played the demo, and what impressed me was how much these devs did with so little budget. Because it shows that game is low budget, but you can feel every dollar was carefully considered. They nailed gameplay, AND they nailed the atmosphere. When you are in it, it feels like a sidestory to the 1987 movie. Havent played the full game yet but i can tell you this game deserves all the praise. I cant even imagine what this studio can do with full AAA budget. Probably cause robocop to make a full return in popularity.
Teyon really went from making one of the worst video games ever made to creating two of the best video game adaptions of movies ever Honestly huge respect to them
@@SENATORPAIN1 I don't agree. They are average if you look at their respective budget but that's about it! These last 2 games they've made are full of passion and love, Terminator Resistance was so much fun I played that game non stop for weeks when I first discovered it. If a game is fun, then that's all that matters. I'm almost happy that these games don't have big triple As budgets because it feels more retro, it has a certain ''stifness'' to it, like it's not as smooth as most modern games. And for me it's kind of the reason why Terminator and Robocop feel the way they feel. It's like a perfect mix of retro and modern design, lovely.
@@SENATORPAIN1 They are not average lmfao. I dont finish "average" games. The Terminator game was better than any FPS Ubisoft put out in the last decade sans Farcry 3. It was in the same league as Alien Isolation as far as liscened games go and till at least a solid 8/10.
@@SENATORPAIN1 Average in terms of mechanics, perhaps. They are absolute love letters to fans of the franchises, and manage to be GOOD games in the way that they provide fun and entertainment. Not every game needs to be 100 hours of wandering a dead landscape with towns sprinkled between, or a AAA military shooter. It's okay to have a 10-12 hour long tight, enjoyable experience.
Having Peter Wellers voice is a HUGE part of making this feel authentic. Robocop just isn't Robocop without the way he delivers lines. "YOUR MOVE CREEP" "DEAD OR ALIVE, YOU'RE COMING WITH ME" Fucking gold.
Bonus points for that, they didnt have to, synthesizing the voice was completely understandable. Being a machine and all. But they did bring him back. this is my childhood come back to life and all i ever wanted from a Robocop game.
Also, the skin tone in the game is pretty realistic, the facial movements are somewhat odd, but it isn't as bad as they seem. It doesn't translate properly on YT.
Also I really liked how the attention to detail in this game was nailed on the head, as every time Robocop gets out his car, you see his foot, then only the top half of his body, a nice Easter egg as when they filmed the films, Peter Weller had to film those scenes in his car and getting out of his car wearing only the top half of the Robocop costume, while just being in his pants below, because he couldn’t fit in the car fully suited up. So a bit of cinema magic, they would show his foot touch the floor below the car door, then a top shot when he would get out the car not revealing his lower half, and I love how the game replicates that.
@@thomasfalcon6350So worth doing then with all the iconography of John Rambo and a solid original story not seen in the old films. It would work. Nothing's wrong with being a Far Cry clone, if that's the inspiration so be it. I could say the same about this new Robocop game that it's just another mech hybrid skin from things like Titanfall or Armoured Core. All that's needed is some thought put into it which has been sorely lacking from devs in the last few years.
Let them make a proper DIE HARD Game. Ever since Terminator the love and care they put into an actual story and can tell were fans... give them some 80's gold. Can't wait for this one. Thanks for the reviews as always.

I really hope this becomes a trend taking classic 80s or even 90s movies and making true games of them with modern hardware. We've been seriously lacking good games and new ideas and this seems like the right answer
Exactly. So many great old movies that could be pretty fun games. This did remind me of the old "far cry blood dragon" game that was like an 80's movie with plenty of easter eggs etc. That was quite fun.
If the full game represents what we played in the recent demo this is going to be a huge title. Real shame about the lack of a NG mode considering how many skills there are to unlock and you can't carry over though.
I think it kinda okay, like back in Diablo 2 when you have to decide what you want to build your character into, it encourage player to try different path in their playthrough. But it might not be necessary for game like this
Played it through on Hard. Not excessively hard, but challenging. Loved it. I generally shift from game to game as they come out without completing them as many have a hard time capturing my attention for more than 2 weeks. This one, I pushed all the way to the end. Great game.
You just reminded me of the awesome diehard trilogy games for the PS1. I remember getting the first level on a demo disk with my PS1 and playing it over and over one Christmas.
As for the lack of new game+, give them time. The Terminator game got some great stuff added post-release and I'm convinced they will do this if it sells well.
I just finished the game game and for me, it hit the right balance of exploring and taking breaks to do side missions before it through you into heavy combat. The story was great and it was just a great game all around. Nice work Teyon!
Those guys are a example of "learning from mistakes". They went from Rambo The Videogame to Terminator Resistance which was good and now Robocop and they hit it again.
You can really tell the devs poured their Heart and Soul into this game, heck, they seem to know how to make Video Games based on Movies better than big studios! I hope these guys continue releasing bangers
It's because an AA dev can avoid the bureaucracy involved in licensed games as being a tax write off or under financial pressure. You have stinkers like Gollum and Kong and of course Teyon's first go. But at the same time, there is more creative freedom and less pressure.
Out of all the reviews that came out today, this one GETS IT. Every other reviewers put the game on a high pedestal and compares it to major AAA FPS games. But the game should be reviewed based on how it is presented by itself and it is exactly that. A tribute to Robocop and the jankiness of the 80s. Defintely gonna buy it. FOR A DOLLAR.
You know another great thing? Compared to other new releases these days, it's actually reasonably priced on release. I'd buy this for whatever they charge me!
From what I got to play of the demo, as well as what I've seen from the reviews, this game's jank is in that sweetspot where it's just charming, and can *add* to the experience. You can always tell when a game is a labor of love, and the bugs are less a nuisance and more just loveable little quirks.
This has been my most anticipated game of the year since I found out the Terminator: Resitance guys made this one as well. I am a sucker for linear and simple dumb fun games related to old movies.
Robocop is not very linear or simple. In the demo there is an open world kind of area, where you pick quests and talk a lot. Makes the game feel really slow.
No, it does not really fit, I think. There was a quest in the demo (with the movie star I think) with zero combat. You just walk very slowly for 20 minutes, talk with annoying characters and click your 'detective vision'. It is far, very far from 'linear simple dumb fun game' the poster implies.@@ShatteredSight
I want to see these guys do an escape from LA or Escape from New York game with Snake plissken in a stealth Action game! These guys should be in charge of every single 80's movie game
@@garudanathanael5257 One thing is for sure, there are plenty of awesome films out there to take advantage of in the right hands.... Teyon have done Terminator and Robocop which both seem awesome so far; so they seem trustworthy to handle these awesome films in game format with care

Its amazing how far Teyon have come. They went from making the disastrous shitfest Rambo game to the underrated Terminator Resistance, to a proper and kick ass Robocop game.
I'd love it if Teyon did a Dredd game. It's crazy, I never would have thought that when Rambo came out but now a Dredd game from Teyon would be pretty rad.
I genuinely can't believe that someone out there managed to make Robocop into an RPG with choices that have consequences and a decently deep skill system and make it work, like actually genuinely work. Like props to you Teyon, you guys went from that horrible rambo game to this, talk about a glow up
This reminds me so much of that Punisher game that came out in 2004. Not gameplay wise, but just in how they nailed the character and shooting mechanics. Excited to play this!
One example of the care given to the source material that I don't see many people talking about. Not only do they recreate some shots, they recreate the stop-motion animation look some of the robots have during cut scenes. The first few times it was subtle so I didn't quite put two and two together, but as more robots start showing up it finally dawned on my what they were going for. Someone had to have busted their butt lowering the frame rate to the right amount while painstakingly doing the animation work in those frames so it has the alien quality the animation in the movie had.
And this is why I've been begging for more AA mid shelf games for so long. Sure these devs don't have the biggest worlds or longest story's but damn can they make some fun games.
Almost like the old days of early ragdoll effects. I don't care if they were less realistic. So much damn fun just flinging people around. So happy to see that with small devs like this they can put stuff out like this. Gonna be the smaller mid range devs that save the gaming industry in the near future.

Honestly, I hope they give Rambo another go sometime. Applying everything they learned along the way. They seem to be the developers doing 80's media into video games, which is really unique and interesting.

what i loved the most about robocop was that it actually had a demo. Games need demos more then ever now, i can see why most games dont have demos no more as no one would buy them after playing the buggy and pants games that have been coming out recently. I miss the old days with demo discs and so on.
I remember being enthralled by the original Robocop films as a kid, so this is like a belated dream come true. Much appreciation to Weller, too - the guy basically spent a good bit of the last 20 years working on his graduate degrees and teaching (including doing that stuff for the History Channel). Yet here he returns, in his 70s no less, to reprise the voice of a much-beloved character.
I hope they kick the big billion dollar developers arses and make a tonne of money from this to encourage the AAA studios to start doing it right again. Actually releasing a finished game would be a start if Teyon can do it the AAA's have no excuses. Dont be surprised to see a few hit pieces coming out for this company if this game sells well, because they're making the big devs look bad.
I remember putting on JackFrag's video of the Robocop demo as background noise and suddenly I was hooked from start to finish! Glad to see a super simple, surprisingly passionate PS2-ish movie tie-in game.
i beat the game in 16hrs. all of the NPCs looked like they had mustaches on their teeth under their lips. the game was fun, but buy it on sale. paying AAA prices for a game that short is fucking silly.
So, so far these guys have done Terminator and Robocop. They need to do Predator, Blade Runner and Alien to complete the 80s iconic nostalgia. I'd love to see them tackle Judge Dredd, with an option to play through as classic Dredd or the 2012 version (I'd lean towards the 2012 version). I shared your concern after playing the demo GMan, so I'm glad to see that it's not as bad as all that.
Demolition Man, Total Recall, many classic 80s IP seriously need a game or two. Those movies had perfect world building material that can work so well in a game form.
Can we just acknowledge the precision in these shooting clips. Gman really can aim and it makes this all feel very on point. Targeting heads, and almost like snapping onto the enemies making the gameplay feel robotic as well.
Because of Teyon being such a small almost unknown developer I've never really even thought about playing any of their games. But when this one was announced I couldn't resist and went ahead and pre-ordered it and am so happy that I did. I am having such a good time with this game and don't want it to end. But this game being as good as it is and I keep seeing good things about Teyons Terminator game then I'm gonna go ahead and give that one a shot once I finish RoboCop.
If your a fan of the first two Terminator films you will love their Terminator Resistance. It really did feel like you were in the future that was shown in those first two movies. Plus it's also really fun
I replay "Terminator: Resistance" every now and then, so that's saying something. The game had problems with AI enemies being really dumb at first, but they've corrected it later with patches (though they're still not super-smart). The game has also different outcomes, depending on your actions, so that's something to remember, while playing😉 Without spoiling, there are some parts, where you can't fight Terminators, because you don't have a suitable weapons, so you have to avoid them, but these parts have epic atmosphere - and that comes from a guy, who normally hates sneaking...
It looks to me like the Slo-Mo feels so satisfying, in part because of all of the other trappings, like the highlighting. You can see the enemies, the explosives, the places where you can ricochet off of, in addition to all of the visual effects, the muzzel flashes, the debris being ripped from the enviroment, the blood splurting from the stumps of enemy limbs, the sparks bouncing off of your armor, it all just adds together. These guys do presentation really well, I'm really impressed
Having Gman review your shooter and the largest complaint he has is he wishes he could play it more is big, now him saying that about your movie licensed game is absolutely a wonder to behold.
This game is a real jewel. It's the example that a little studio can meke a good game, not perfect, but with many details that many AAA games don't have. Thanks for your beautiful analysis
It's a little early to think about what their next project will be but I'd love to see them take on Dredd (2012) and their own spin on the Die Hard Trilogy (1996).
I think Die Hard would be quite boring (much too human and mortal protagonists for a game, and those limiting traits are what made Die Hard compelling in the first place), though I agree with the potential for Dredd. Punisher, also. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves has massive potential.
@@brianbaumgartner7223Nothing wrong with fighting humans. Actually I'm tired of the fact that every game now has to be about robots, zombies or mythical monsters.
Lmao "this level" you mean trash? What is remotely good about this game? The gameplay is worse than fps games from 2006, it literally looks and feels like an arcade game. A real movie-licensed game that's actually good, is Peter Jackson King kong the original game. That is a masterpiece. To even say this is on the same level is a joke. I hope alot more people buy this game after this review, it has none of the BS from modern day game companies and is just good fun. I'd love to see the development team make a Judge Dredd, Terminator or Demolition Man game. That would be fantastic
I think a multiplayer mode would be fun, different colored robocops running around shooting each other soaking up bullets, throwing objects at each other, and you could throw in bad guys into the mix to shoot at while you compete for highest score.
Damn, hearing you suggest them making The Thing brought back memories of the original The Thing game. I would be so stoked if they could translate it into a new game.
I like to think it would be a Among Us but 3D first person perspective with triple A graphics lol Allthough truth be told, gameplay wise I don't know, they could add a lot of things that would make the immersion ground breaking even more than the gameplay aspects Among Us has
I feel like The Thing game would be kinda redundant, because where would you even place it? It can't be a prequel because thats covered by 2011 movie and can't be a sequel because we got both video game & book/comic
@@XOFInfantryman Then they just need be creative and make it's own thing somewhere else, no one ever said there was only one Thing It's a big planet we live in

So Glad to hear this game is good, I was really rooting for it. I'll definitely have to pick it up. I'd love to see the devs tackle the rambo franchise this time now that they know how to do it right, sort of make a soldier of fortune style game. If these guys got their hands on the aliens license that would be so badass. Their style of game stories plus like a tactical squad mechanic would be amazing, make us actually feel like colonial marines being hunted for once.
There was a bunch of stuff behind the scenes with the rights holders and Teyon didn't have nearly enough the cash to make the game they wanted with Rambo so it isn't all Teyon's fault on that one.
"Dead or alive, you are coming-" GMan's usage of dad joke double entendres just keep getting more entertaining, especially after becoming a dad himself 😂
Words can't describe how amazing was Terminator Resistance for me. And looks like Teyon did it again - despite their technological shortcomings, they can create a magical atmosphere that makes you forget any minor (or even major) flaws. Call me a boomer or whatnot, but I miss these old movies. This review proved it once again that those guys deserve every single penny.
I remember robocop. As a child I didn't appreciate it for what it was, but rewatching it...I definitely had shit opinions as a kid. I'm glad there is at least one person giving the characters in that universe the proper respect it deserves.
I always knew it was good and it still holds up pretty well. Its one of those old movies that's worth watching just for the practical effects. That scene with the cyborg tearing off his own face is still burned into my memory.
Wow I can't believe it actually is Peter Weller doing the voice! I have not followed the game super close and listening to it here, I just assumed it was someone doing a DAMN good Weller impression/some sort of modulation. I wasn't expecting the legend himself to come back but boy am I excited he did.
As far as NG+ goes, Teyon added a shit-ton of new features and even new game modes to their Terminator game post-release, so if you are vocal enough about wanting NG+, they will for sure add it later. Teyon has a good track record with post-release support.
almost feels like its giving the player the choice to control if Robocop taps into his more human side or let the programming directives take over! that is an amazing feature to build into the game from an interactive standpoint. Epic review and use of Clips from the Robocop movies man! your a total master as always!
I just reached Downtown for the second time and met the old man. Already got all the achievements, except for the story ones and the cat, turret, and 10 minutes one. This game has been an absolute joy to play. I'm huge RoboCop fan, so I hope this gets a sequel. Teyon has done a phenomenal job.
There was also a Robocop game for the Amiga 500, which was quite remarkable in that it actually was some kind of FPS, with the enemies being vector graphics. It brought the Amiga 500 to its limits and was actually quite a decent game in itself and apart from the graphics that were, for his time and machine, pretty much jawdropping.
This is interesting. Power fantasy games are fun, but coming up with challenges is the hard part to keep the fights interesting. When you're an unstoppable force, your limits are mobility and actions. So having to complete objectives, save people, prevent deaths and other issues would probably be the best end game challenges.
Just finished this game today after recently buying it and I really loved it. I'm ashamed to say I hadn't seen the original movie until late 2023 but loved it and love this game. I was actually thinking about getting the Terminator game, wasn't sure about it but didn't know it was the same team behind this. Definitely will look into that
Pro Tip: When you start running into enemies with body armor and helmets, aim for the nuts. It drops them with one shot in most cases. Even the heavies can be brought down that way. Once I figured this out, most of the second half of the game became a reenactment of Scene 27.
It's nice to see someone actually give a damn about these old movie games and not turn it into a cash grab
Yeah this game absolutely shines with the love and attention given by the devs.

Teyon really went from making one of the worst video games ever made to creating two of the best video game adaptions of movies ever
Honestly huge respect to them
They are still painfully average games though let's not pretend they are anything else
It seems like they've always had the passion, they just hadn't amassed the skills.
"YOUR MOVE CREEP"
"DEAD OR ALIVE, YOU'RE COMING WITH ME"
Fucking gold.
Also his face.
Bonus points for that, they didnt have to, synthesizing the voice was completely understandable. Being a machine and all. But they did bring him back. this is my childhood come back to life and all i ever wanted from a Robocop game.
"Nice shooting, son, what's your name?"
"Murphy"
Peter takes the whole thing very seriously, you can see by the interviews. I'm sure people will be analysing his performance for a long time

Is the classic theme in it?
@@jamespaul6315yes and it is perfect
@@ProfSplendorFaction thank you sir
I never knew that! God that's so fucking cool!
The studio that when from an abysmal Rambo game to great Terminator and Robocop games. What an impressive turnaround.

Nothing's wrong with being a Far Cry clone, if that's the inspiration so be it. If the full game represents what we played in the recent demo this is going to be a huge title. Real shame about the lack of a NG mode considering how many skills there are to unlock and you can't carry over though.

Robocop is not very linear or simple. In the demo there is an open world kind of area, where you pick quests and talk a lot. Makes the game feel really slow.
@@Arifmeticusit fits RoboCop, it's not meant to be fast paced COD
No, it does not really fit, I think. There was a quest in the demo (with the movie star I think) with zero combat. I replay "Terminator: Resistance" every now and then, so that's saying something. The game had problems with AI enemies being really dumb at first, but they've corrected it later with patches (though they're still not super-smart). The game has also different outcomes, depending on your actions, so that's something to remember, while playing😉
Without spoiling, there are some parts, where you can't fight Terminators, because you don't have a suitable weapons, so you have to avoid them, but these parts have epic atmosphere - and that comes from a guy, who normally hates sneaking...

As far as NG+ goes, Teyon added a shit-ton of new features and even new game modes to their Terminator game post-release, so if you are vocal enough about wanting NG+, they will for sure add it later. Teyon has a good track record with post-release support.
Hope the G in your name stands for "grass", 'cuz you could seriously use touching some!
God i love how they also animate the strike hammer on the pistol actually striking, the attention to detail,
the Mitch McConnell joke took me right the fuck out 😂 holy shit GMan, good one.
He has a knack for that. It's funny as hell. Easily the best CC on this platform~
almost feels like its giving the player the choice to control if Robocop taps into his more human side or let the programming directives take over! that is an amazing feature to build into the game from an interactive standpoint.
This game looks like some good screenshot food. I love how high fidelity all of the models are and the colour palette is top notch.
It looks fantastic, really captures the 'feel' of the film. I'm pleased for them and hope they make lots of money and fans.
It was a good game.
@@bullet1544 Robocop 3! Also on Amiga you had the ports of the side-scrolling arcade games Robocop and Robocop 2 by Data East
I had the game on my Atari ST. The 3D graphics were really mindblowing back then.
Yep. Robocop 3 on the Amiga was incredible. The lock on aiming mechanics were so on point. I loved it
This is interesting.
