It did. Johnny and Jason Narvy (Skull) did an action film with the Rangers stunt team. The camera couldn't pick up the audio, so they had to dub over the static. The producer heard his voice and basically elected him as Vash in Trigun. So yeah, that wouldn't have happened if Johnny didn't meet Koichi Sakamoto.

Having worked in LA on and off in the TV and film industry for 20 years, I can safely say that the non-union shows and contracts are practically criminal. The bare minimum for lead performers in a 30 minute program is 6-7k per week, and most union shows' performers are making well above that, especially if your show is a hit. Power Rangers had one of the worst reputations for exploitation, churning through cast members because frankly, they could. It's pretty tragic; they should have been rolling in residuals and had a tidy slice of profit sharing or buyouts from the merch and using their likeness, but nope... not as a non-union production. Saban made SO much money off all this!
I think David's bullying even extended to a video game. In Sega Genesis Power Rangers fighting game, Billy is given a sort of girly win pose. I thought it was kinda weird back then, but with his story coming out, it makes sense in a pretty sad way.
I think I know what game your talking about, and I never noticed anything like that. In the show the rangers always did posing, and the two games that I played if I remember correctly.

I knew Thuy Trang was dead, but I didn't realize how long ago that happened, nor how young she was. Damn. I rewatched the first two seasons of the show last year (couldn't do the third season, this show's way worse than I remember), and Thuy / Trini seemed a lot cooler than I remembered. Guess I didn't notice when I was younger. Favorite to least (personally): Tommy > Billy > Trini > Zack > Kimberly >> Jason
I got so sad about the death of Thuy. Taken way too early. What a tragedy, and after what sounded like a failed film career. Can't this girl catch a break?
You forgot to mention Thuy Trang’s small role in Universal Soldiers in which she plays one of the two Vietnamese prisoners whom Dolph Lungren kills in the beginning.

Dame I never thought they were being paid so low, and for the success of the show that is not right, I remember watching power rangers growing up and later I notice a lot things were off and this kinda explains a lot.
If you think about it, it's such a crazy business plan and insane that it was so successful: hey lets buy the rights to some random Japanese action TV show, dub over all the fight scenes, and mix in some really low budget scenes shot with a bunch of teenagers, writing our script around whatever footage we just happen to have. Absolutely wild.

As for Austin's legal troubles (he's actually my favorite btw) I really hope he can redeem himself from this, I don't know why or how but with the right justice he can make the best out of it.

I've been an actor for over 15 years and a member of SAG-AFTRA, and I will say this from experience. Getting a role in a show/movie is not as easy as some think out there. And even after you work a leading role in a show/movie it does not guarantee you anything after. Hollywood as they call it, is not for anyone with thin skin and it is actually getting worse since Covid struck. Less and less projects are being produced nowadays since our last Strike last year, and the one presently today with the video game industry - voice acting. Thankfully we have made the industry far more better than it was in the 90's and things like that happened with this show do not happen anymore, and if they did that is why we just need to make a call to the office and they take care of it fast! On a side note, it's funny I used to be mistaken for "Tommy" by the children which was pretty cool.
Born in 1992 and man did I love the power rangers. Ya just had to be there if you’re not old enough to have watched it and experience. Grew out of it by 1999 but what a ride it was.

Wow, I had no idea there was that much scandal! I remember at school in the 90's, all the kids freaked out when the green ranger was introduced 😂 My favorite was both the Red and the Blue rangers. Blue being my favorite colour and red because I found a broken, discarded power ranger toy in the playground of the red ranger at the time. I remember the rich kid invited us class mates to his birthday party and we watched the first power rangers movie on VHS, and road 4 wheeler motorbikes around his huge property. I'm not kidding when I say...Bro, the 90's was AWESOME!
Yaaaaas. I've seen every episode, like drag race. Will drag race go to season 30, also? Tommy was the white ranger when Zack, Trini, and Jason left...but he is wearing green when the 3 rangers start to leave because of the use of season 2 footage.

I hate to speak ill of the dead but here's the truth. My mother worked on the show for 10 years, from Season 2 on to the final season that was filmed in Santa Clarita until the production moved to New Zealand. My brothers and I grew up on the MMPR set. In those days, Jason David Frank was a bully. He was not a nice guy. Many ofthe other rangers were incredibly kind. Especially David Yost. Yes. David Yost was bullied on set. He was bullied by Jason David Frank and Steve Cardenas, who was also terrible on that set to the other cast members. I'm not going to get into detail, but there were so many terrible things that happened on that set that were never made public. Things that would really ruin the show for some people. I'm sorry but you guys don't know the half of it, and I don't feel right saying much more.

Haim Saban said that was not his business to pay them today he’s worth 3.1 billion because of them. He said “ I had nothing to do with that. The least they could have done was pay them each 2 million for the movie. Or at least 10k per episode.
Lol... there's a reason the rich are rich and only get richer you know...
WOW. As a kid watching the show in the early 90's . . I had often wondered why Ritas mouth always moved more differently than her words spoken at the time . . Now I know . . Thanks for clearing that up for me.
Watch the old Godzilla movies from the 1960s and 1970s.The terrible voice over acting.😁
So, basically, Hollywood blacklisted them for having the Audacity to ask for a lil bit extra change from the huge vault.
Nothing new under the sun.

I'm surprised Walter Jones hasn't been on Dancing w/ the Stars yet
I always find myself wishing SO BADLY that things had been better and that the first film would have had the full original cast. It would have made that film the extra 15% better than it was.
But then we wouldn't have gotten the funny "I'm a frog" ab-lib from JYB
@@beccacroce7380 True...and that role in general likely helped pave a way for his great career in voice acting.
Big shout out to my parents, aunts and uncles for letting us have Power Rangers on the screen at all. It's pretty obnoxious as an adult but I can see why the 6 year old in me loved it. The giant monster battles and almost all the Power Ranger fight scenes take place on playgrounds! That's where I would go with my cousins and friends and reenact everything. That was a very nice touch. Back when I had no worries in life besides getting out of school and watching Power Rangers and X-Men. I miss you, early 90s.

Actually JDF was originally gunna star in a show called Cybertron, while Brad Hawkins was supposed to be the white ranger. But after numerous fan mail asked for Tommy to come back, their roles were reversed & Cybertron was renamed VR troopers

David Yost has suffered some serious shit. Even tho I'm sure he's still struggling with all that he's suffered thru I'm glad he's better. No one should go thru all that crap.
I really don't understand why one of the crew members would say that! I guess a different time but he is still a person and deserves respect.
yes and glad he agreed to return for the 30th anniversary special and that he got treatment and did not committee suicide as the other actor did
I've always been curious why he didn't stick by his castmates when they demanded more pay
There is nothing wrong with him, those people that bullied are absolute trash
@twoboysmom7423 Everyone loves to look at the 90s with rose tinted glasses. But I lived through them. It was not as great as Gen Alpha like to imagine.
You forgot to mention Amy Jo's movie Susie Q, which is an underrated gem
I think David's bullying even extended to a video game. In Sega Genesis Power Rangers fighting game, Billy is given a sort of girly win pose. I thought it was kinda weird back then, but with his story coming out, it makes sense in a pretty sad way.
Wow that’s awful 🥺💔

My favorites were Trini and Jason. I was mad and sad when they left but years later I found out why. It's so sad that they were shooting a Popular TV show and got paid so low. I wish they all walked out of the set together, they would've definitely gotten paid better if they did
My favourite Power Ranger was Austin St. John who played Jason, the Red Power Ranger.
Too bad he was a bully and a charity thief.
Me too, so much untapped talent. Felt he was snubbed by the(actually good) new movie too
I knew Thuy Trang was dead, but I didn't realize how long ago that happened, nor how young she was. Damn. I rewatched the first two seasons of the show last year (couldn't do the third season, this show's way worse than I remember), and Thuy / Trini seemed a lot cooler than I remembered. Guess I didn't notice when I was younger.
Favorite to least (personally):
Tommy > Billy > Trini > Zack > Kimberly >> Jason
I got so sad about the death of Thuy. Taken way too early. What a tragedy, and after what sounded like a failed film career. Can't this girl catch a break?
You forgot to mention Thuy Trang’s small role in Universal Soldiers in which she plays one of the two Vietnamese prisoners whom Dolph Lungren kills in the beginning.
The franchise was driven under non-union, and its future season cast suffered the consequences, leaving only a handful having Hollywood endeavors.
Salute to Walter man he was very necessary for young urban black kids…he definitely stood out…glad he was the most vocal about the unfair treatment and continued on with his career and did many more great things in his life…rip to JDF and Thuy 🙏🏾
Super Sentai is not the name of the show, it's the genre. The show they took their footage from is called Zyurangers.
Dame I never thought they were being paid so low, and for the success of the show that is not right, I remember watching power rangers growing up and later I notice a lot things were off and this kinda explains a lot.
@5:03 he never enlisted. He was a civilian contracted by the military
I always liked the Red Ranger
I love that you’re covering more topics!
🙏
I also liked Zach over Adam. Zach was a better fighter over Adam
Zach was a great character, but Johnny Yong Bosh ended up going on to be a VA for some iconic anime characters
The actirs who played the red, yellow and black rangers quit after not getting a pay raise that they asked for
Eles foram demitidos😢😢😢
Billy was my favorite The only problem I have with the character is that speaking in universe with the character he decided to just indiscriminately kill the tricky monster BULK, skull created
@@aishacampbellsloan5337I knew that voice over was garbage even when I first watched it they tried to put in some statics sound effects to like well that's the reason why he doesn't sound like he does it's like yeah what a load of s***

Should have gotten more residuals, so that their pay was success based.
You think that's bad, check out American Gladiators. They slept on floors and didn't have proper medical teams for the gladiators. Fired the ones who ask for a cut on merchandise.
I'm always up for seeing the original crew return in whatever form that may be. I was always a little sad when the originals left the show and super happy when they would come back.
Really interesting video! A great watch 😊
Thank you 😊
Very Interesting! I'd love to see a follow up video on the other red, yellow, black, and pink rangers from the original show. As well as Bulk and Skull!
I especially wonder what happened to the guy that was playing Bulk, he was extra obese during the show and probably had heart issues, is he still alive after all that time beyond the show ??
There's always a point of no-return about obesity.....
It’s crazy how these kids can make these grown ass adults billions but can’t even provide any type of support system when it’s obvious they’re about to spiral
I watched those episodes when I was in México back in 1995 such good memories.
The green ranger was always my favourite 💚
I’m prolly one of the rare people on here that can say I watch power rangers from 1993 to 2000
I watched regularly up to Time Force. Most of my peers had stopped watching by season 3(1995). I did watch SPD as I found the police theme interesting.
I stopped watching after the Space show. I was like 10. Started watching sitcoms lol
I watch mmpr straight till mystic force
I've seen EVERYTHING!
To think that half of the original team would be dead by now. I know that's not a good thing to say but it still sucks. Despite their current and past troubles, they still deserved better. As for Austin's legal troubles (he's actually my favorite btw) I really hope he can redeem himself from this, I don't know why or how but with the right justice he can make the best out of it.
It seems to have been a constant thing in the 90s tv that kids where abused, taken advantage off etc irs crazy as kids we have no clue and it took 30 years later to find out
Im surprised they cant sue for the money but unfortunately its sad that they got used like they did
The main ones i knew about were David Yost being harrassed, didnt know he was from Iowa though, and Jason David Frank and his depression issues. Jason David Frank also happened to be my favorite of all of them, his character was a total badass. Hopefully Legend Of The White Dragon gets released cause the trailer makes it look really good
JDF's downfall was because of his 2nd Wife. She was a Mentally ILL woman.
The red ranger actor dude looked nothing like the gay spicy star...
I thank you forgot one of the most important things for David Yost You forgot he was also in power rangers cosmic fury as a regular
Born in 1992 and man did I love the power rangers. Ya just had to be there if you’re not old enough to have watched it and experience. Grew out of it by 1999 but what a ride it was.
Audri Dubois was originally set to be The Yellow Ranger
She was fired in January 1993 after asking for better salary.
Wow so I went looking for that 2023 movie that I didn't know existed, and there are whole new Power Rangers shows I didn't know existed! Got so much to watch now, I am a serious adult I swear!
Thuy was so beautiful man ! 😢
She was, I remember having a crush on her when I was a kid. And from what I heard about her, she sounds like she was a wonderful person, which makes her passing all the more tragic.
RIP Thuy Trang
Wow, I had no idea there was that much scandal! I remember at school in the 90's, all the kids freaked out when the green ranger was introduced 😂 My favorite was both the Red and the Blue rangers.
Blue being my favorite colour and red because I found a broken, discarded power ranger toy in the playground of the red ranger at the time.
I remember the rich kid invited us class mates to his birthday party and we watched the first power rangers movie on VHS, and road 4 wheeler motorbikes around his huge property. I'm not kidding when I say...Bro, the 90's was AWESOME!
Oh! I also had a huge crush on the yellow ranger 😅...Don't judge me! LOL
Yaaaaas. I've seen every episode, like drag race. Will drag race go to season 30, also? Tommy was the white ranger when Zack, Trini, and Jason left...but he is wearing green when the 3 rangers start to leave because of the use of season 2 footage.
the editors did very creative stuff with the content they had, and they should have been paid also more!
@@Zarkon619 with Super Megaforce using "modes never seen before," it makes me wonder if the production for s2 and s3 ever considered using the Dairanger and Kakuranger suits as power-up modes after the mmpr rangera morph, akin to the ninja powers. Of course, I know Kakuranger suits were used for the alien rangers, but it just makes me wonder.
Watching it as a kid I was wondering why Tommy was wearing green clothing again.

My heart broke for David. He went through a ridiculous amount of crap, I'm glad we live in a time now where he can be open about who he is, cause there is nothing wrong with him
I wish David stood in solidarity with Walter, Thay & Austin (tho Austin being a raging homophobe would of made it difficult for him)
They all had the look and charisma to be stars in various shows and movies. How does media waste such potential?
Yeah, young JDF comes across as being really arrogant and obnoxious to me so what you said is no surprise. Tommy is still my all time favorite ranger though!
