The direct hit has faster rockets and a smaller explosion radius, and in addition more damage, so you have to be hitting direct hits to deal maximum damage

Some (late) explanations and info: Pyro over there tends to counter all soldiers, because they can reflect projectiles that aren't hitscan. Trolldier is a subclass of Soldier where you use the Rocket Jumper as your primary (it does no damage (and no self-damage!) and isn't actually a rocket launcher, it's supposed to be used in training), the Manntreads as your secondary (boots that reduce the knockback you take by A LOT, and you do heavy damage by landing on an enemy, but lose your shotgun entirely), and the Market Gardener as your melee (does critical hits when you're rocket jumping, but can't crit otherwise). The Trolldier then flies around the map using their Rocket Jumper, falling onto enemies from above and instakilling them with the Market Gardener... if they don't get shot down in the process cause someone finally looked up, which rarely happens outside of competitive. (appears mainly around 8:35, but LazyPurple likes Trolldier) And yes, Engies that have a sentry at that spot and heavies that can aim are the strict hardcounter to most trolldiers. Most. 6:32 As far as I'm aware, Soldier has the highest mobility in the game with his rocket jumping, however this almost always costs health (except in the case of Trolldier), so he tends to be pretty squishy and can just die from fall damage cause he wasn't careful. And yes, it requires knowledge of the maps and can often also require knowledge of things like airstrafing (which I can't possibly explain here, but SoundSmith has a tutorial on how to trolldier.) 13:50 The Direct Hit is an alternative to the rocket launcher that emphasizes landing the rocket directly on the target instead of around them, by increasing damage significantly but heavily reducing blast radius. Don't ask how that works with rockets. Still suffers to pyros who know that right click exists. 14:12 People can customize their cosmetics. Weapons and certain gear aren't counted in this. If it looks wacky, it's probably cosmetic. Exception being pyroland, and I don't wanna deal with pyroland.
13:52 the direct hit is a rocket launcher that has its rockets travel faster and it does more damage on direct hits. This damage allows you to one shot scout, engineer, spy, and sniper aswell as mini sentries. the downside is theres little splash damage and more damage is dealt to yourself from rocket jumps and just hitting yourself with your rockets splash damage. This weapons is great for taking care of buildings such as sentries, dispensers etc.
13:36 The Direct Hit is a weapon designed for, well, getting direct rocket hits. It does more damage. Rockets fly faster. And does more damage to people launched airborne. But at a serious cost of splash damage.
5:34 I'm not sure if it is a fact but i believe that the events of the comics are after the events of the game I have the theory that after the mercs got fired Demo started consuming more alcohol to the point of literally being able to create alcohol with his system.
Fun fact about George Washington, Fort Necessity was one of the greatest tactical blunders of GW career. It was in a valley allowing the enemy to just shoot directly into his camp. It was from this that George Washington learned to value tactical retreat, which he carried over into the Revolutionary war tactics. Famously Congress always was trying to force GW to fight the British in big battles which would almost assuredly be a loss, instead he innovated upon and created one of the most influential guerilla war campaign tactics. A number of revolutionaries such as Ho Chi Minh studied his tactics as inspiration for their own campaigns.
I love this type of insight into soulder gear and stuff like that, I laways thought big stupid goggles on characters were for style but they actually make sense
info about the "Trolldier" sub-class for Solider: it mainly uses the "Market Gardener" as its main source of damage, its ability is that it gets 100% crit's when rocket jumping, the 100% crit rate depletes when you land tho, the orange rocket launcher is a primary "wepon" (more of a utility) called "The Rocket Jumper" which lets you rocket jump normaly with the payoff of it doing 0 damage, the boots are called "Mantreads" and i dont exactly know what they do since i haven't unlocked them for myself yet. Also the "Direct Hit" rocket launcer trades Explosion Radious of its rockets for increased damage on Direct hits with it (hence the name "Direct Hit")
The "Why are we still here? Just to suffer?" quote scene was a reference to the old movie Saving Private Ryan, and the music from the scene was used. There was no metal gear involved. Unless MG happens to have used that line as a reference to that particular movie.
Trolldier : a subclass of soldier using the rocket jumper, a rocket launcher than does no damage allowing you to rocket jump without health cost, and the market gardener, a shovel that gets guaranteed crits while blast jumping. Most also use mantreads as they give increased air control. Basically you rocket jump to land next to the target, and hit them with the shovel right before landing. If you want a lot more information on trolldier watch Soundsmith.
The certain play style is trolldier. Basically you use the rocket jumper to jump at people and hit them with a market gardner. This works because the rocket jumper does no self damage and the market gardner gives guaranteed crits if you are rocket jumping. And almost trolldiers use mantreads because it means you can airstrafe a lot better.
Soldier is easy to play but hard to master At first it's simple Shoot rocket and if that don't work use shotgun But there's so much you can do with it. Rocket jumps Synching up rockets Direct hits Airshots and so much more
the "playstyle" is called trolldier, its where you use the rocket jumper to get HUGE speed and height, and mantreads, for air control, and the market gardener, that does a critical hit if you hit an enemy with it while in air.
The "certain playstyle" is called the Trolldier, which is a play style that involves using a no damage rocket launcher, a shovel that crits when airborne, and a pair of boots that increase damage when falling on people and hitting them in the air, so you can kill people by violently bonking them with a shovel.
13:52 To answer your question: The Direct Hit is an unlockable Primary Weapon for the Soldier with pretty simple to understand stats. It gives you faster rockets that deal more damage in exchange for heavily reducing the blast radius of the explosion whenever a rocket hits something. As the name implies, you need to land direct hits to actually do damage. Because a lot of players overestimate their skills with the weapon and can only hit shots on opponents right in front of them, the community gave it the fitting title of "The best melee weapon in the game"
The Direct Hit is an unlockable primary weapon for the Soldier. It is a high-tech rocket launcher with a slimmer barrel and a smaller exhaust port, outfitted with a cosmetic scope. The Mann Co. logo is imprinted on the side. Unlike the default Rocket Launcher, the Direct Hit's projectile travels at a rate of 135 km/h - 80% faster than normal rockets. Additionally, the rockets inflict 25% more damage on their target than conventional rockets. For precision marksmen, the Direct Hit also scores mini-crits on any airborne target that was propelled into the air by an explosion or a Pyro using a charge from the Thermal Thruster, adding additional damage and negating damage fall-off. The splash radius of the Direct Hit's shots is reduced to 30%, placing emphasis on players needing to score "direct hits" on enemies in order to effectively damage them. The radius of the splash zone is roughly 44 Hammer units, the width of an operational Teleporter. This tightened splash radius and increased damage only applies to enemies; the explosion acts like a normal rocket to the Soldier who fired it, sharing the same radius and damage when calculating self-damage, enabling Rocket Jumping as normal. The Direct Hit is automatically given to any player who obtains 11 Soldier achievements.

At the part where you are talking about Demo's alcohol tolerance and withdrawal. In lore, withdrawal and hallucinations set in IMMEDIATELY after Demo drank a single glass of water. In the same comic, robots taking blood from him "died" immediately, presumably from alcohol poisoning. TF2 lore is a strange and wonderful thing.
The 'certain playstyle' is yes called trolldier where you equip rocket jumepr which gives you 0 damage upon detonating the gun boats which let you control your movement while in air and the market gardner which gives you crits if you hit the shovel before landing

Trolldier: A soldier using the Rocket Jumper, a rocket launcher that deals 0 damage, rendering it useless for anything but rocket jumping, for which it's the safest option and the Market Gardener, a melee shovel that is guaranteed to deal critical damage while rocket jumping or otherwise blasted. Commonly paired with the Manntreads, which allow you to "goomba stomp" enemies, dealing heavy damage if you can land directly on top of them.
0:44 i'll never get tired of watching people compliment a song they're hearing for the first time, with the eldritch knowledge that it's from homestuck
Trolldier abuses gimmicky weapons paired together. Rocket Jumper, which deals no damage to you or enemies, and the Market Gardener which deals 3x damage to enemies if you're rocket jumping
In the tf2 universe, it is canonical that the second floor of buildings became a thing before stairs, and by many decades. up until the invention of stairs, people rocket jumped to the second floor

5:15 My grandmother was such a extreme alcoholic, that she became quite literally dependent on alcohol. She could not function properly mentally without being drunk. She was perfectly lucid when she was drunk, but when she had no alcohol in her system, she was practically drunk mentally.
The Direct Hit deals an extra 25% damage and has 80% faster rocket projectile, the cost is around 75% less explosion radius, its useful for deal high damage against single targets and its really good against sentries, even though its not the best against crowds its still really good as long as you can kill the enemies on at a time The Rocket Jumper is a weapon that has double the rockets in a single clip (8 instead of 4) but deals no damage at all, so you can use it solely for rocket jumping, you can use this for practicing rocket jumping or just fooling around The Market Gardener Deals Crits when Rocket Jumping but with a 20% slower firing speed (or swing speed), its used mostly for Trolldier with the Rocket Jumper, but it still has some utility in a normal game depending on how you play The Mantreads are the boots you saw at the Trolldier section, its used for the increase in air control to make movement easier but it also has a knockback resistance so that things like bullets and pyros wont screw you over to much while rocket jumping, it also limits you to only using the market gardener as Trolldier but it still this playstyle really well Now Pyros are another thing I should talk about, if you didn't know Pyros hsve the ability to Airblast which pushes enemies and reflects projectiles, rockets being included, so you can't shoot Rockets at pyros, unless you know they can't or airblast or dunno how, you can use your shotgun against them but just bewarned that their fire damage can be pretty dangerous However if you like rocket jumping you can use the Gunboats, it deals 80% less damage from rocket jumps which lets you do it consistently without sacrificing the normal rocket launcher or and its good in most situations since rocket jumping is a very important psrt of playing soldier, it does limit you to using only your rocket launcher and melee so be careful when encountering pyros
8:37 the play style that he is talking about is that you rocket jump with a weapon that does no damage and hit with a shovel, that shovel is an instant kill when launched in the air and wear some boots I forgot it's name to prevent from fall damage
trolldier is a playstyle for soldier that consists of 2 weapons the meme spoon (Market Garden) and the funni orange tube that deals no damage to u or enemies but still deals knockback to u only (Rocket Jumper) basically u just jump with the tube and slap ppl with the spoon

5:49 Considering in the comics it's established that Demo's body is so used to squeezing nutrients out of alcohol and haggis that it considers water poison, you probably aren't that far off with the withdrawal theory.

i dont think he says it in the video but threw out the whole video lazy uses an item called the gunboats which replace the shotgun but he doesn't take as much damage from his own rockets
You really shouldn't worry about learning to rocket jump right now. You're trying to learn how to do a wheelie before learning how to ride without training wheels first. A rocket jumping soldier is pretty worthless unless you've put in thousands of hours into it but even then I'd rather have a solder giving cover fire taking out sentries and killing more threatening classes instead of bouncing around the map killing 1 or two people and then instantly dying. Let the spies do the flanking.

And yes, Engies that have a sentry at that spot and heavies that can aim are the strict hardcounter to most trolldiers. Most.
6:32 As far as I'm aware, Soldier has the highest mobility in the game with his rocket jumping, however this almost always costs health (except in the case of Trolldier), so he tends to be pretty squishy and can just die from fall damage cause he wasn't careful. And yes, it requires knowledge of the maps and can often also require knowledge of things like airstrafing (which I can't possibly explain here, but SoundSmith has a tutorial on how to trolldier.)
13:50 The Direct Hit is an alternative to the rocket launcher that emphasizes landing the rocket directly on the target instead of around them, by increasing damage significantly but heavily reducing blast radius.
13:36
The Direct Hit is a weapon designed for, well, getting direct rocket hits.
It does more damage.
Rockets fly faster.
And does more damage to people launched airborne.
But at a serious cost of splash damage.
14:00 Direct Hit. Smaller splash damage area in exchange for more direct hit damage, and faster rocket speed.
Direct shit
^ skill issue
If you could rocket jump in real life how often would it be used in war
Your organs that didn't blow up would fly at extremely fast speeds
It's raining man
Unironically, getting killed by a market gardener irl would have my soul in stitches
@@redline841 If the afterlife existed id be like hold up....
5:34 I'm not sure if it is a fact but i believe that the events of the comics are after the events of the game
I have the theory that after the mercs got fired Demo started consuming more alcohol to the point of literally being able to create alcohol with his system.
The direct hit does more damage but also has 80% reduction in splash radius
Soldier is easy to play but hard to master
At first it's simple
Shoot rocket and if that don't work use shotgun
But there's so much you can do with it.
Rocket jumps
Synching up rockets
Direct hits
Airshots and so much more
Your little "trivia" at the end has to be the embodiment of How It Feels To Play Soldier.
Bless you. XD
Hes always direct and has interesting stories. Makes his reaction videos good.
the "playstyle" is called trolldier, its where you use the rocket jumper to get HUGE speed and height, and mantreads, for air control, and the market gardener, that does a critical hit if you hit an enemy with it while in air.
YOOO! I did not think you were going to keep checking out Lazy; this is awesome! Your insights are always so cool!
14:16 In the Comic "Hat Wearing Man" (which is basically different from our world), *ahem* "Men would wear hats as a way of asseting dominace over other men" -TF2 Wiki
"The Direct Hit
Level 1 Rocket Launcher
+25% damage bonus
+80% projectile speed
Mini-crits targets launched airborne by explosions, grapple hooks or rocket packs.
-70% explosion radius"
I just love how quick and to the point you are as opposed to some people i've watched with 5 minute intro's, Ps i highly recommend you watch his how it feels to play engineer next Its absolutely hilarious
TF2 lore is a strange and wonderful thing.
hey bro i recommend the soudsmith video about trolldier and how to play as this subclass
if u want to play trolldier
The 'certain playstyle' is yes called trolldier where you equip rocket jumepr which gives you 0 damage upon detonating the gun boats which let you control your movement while in air and the market gardner which gives you crits if you hit the shovel before landing
Hey Paul, I really am glad you're getting into tf2 and getting a hopefully better perspective on soldier, he's not as bad as you may think!
I love your content, tf2 or not actually. You're super interesting, and I'm surprised you don't have 1 million subscribers yet already.
Ohh here we go
You’ll love these :)
You gotta watch lazys how it feels to play pyro or engineer here soon, those are the best in my opinion.
6:24 combat veteran: stops video:
me: * awaits commentary *
combat veteran: achoo
The direct hit is pretty straightforward.
it has a really small blast radius, but deals a LOT more damage on direct hits.
In the tf2 universe, it is canonical that the second floor of buildings became a thing before stairs, and by many decades. up until the invention of stairs, people rocket jumped to the second floor
And wasn’t Abe Lincoln the one who made stairs in the TF2 universe
If you wanna learn the maps you can do the command
map
Press the ~ button to open console (turn on console in options - advanced options)
Maps like
ctf_2fort
ctf_doublecross
ctf_sawmill
ctf_landfall
ctf_turbine
cp_process_final the one lazy played in the intro
cp_well
cp_dustbowl
And much more
Easy command for infinite ammo is
sv_cheats 1
bind mouse1 "impulse 101 ; +attack"
And for infinite time
mp_tournament 1
Also, I definitely recommend seeing HIFTP Engineer next, it's my personal favorite because of the humor behind it.
congrats on the quick growth
You should really check out the extras for how it feels to play demoman
5:15 My grandmother was such a extreme alcoholic, that she became quite literally dependent on alcohol. She could not function properly mentally without being drunk. She was perfectly lucid when she was drunk, but when she had no alcohol in her system, she was practically drunk mentally.
The Direct Hit deals an extra 25% damage and has 80% faster rocket projectile, the cost is around 75% less explosion radius, its useful for deal high damage against single targets and its really good against sentries, even though its not the best against crowds its still really good as long as you can kill the enemies on at a time
The Rocket Jumper is a weapon that has double the rockets in a single clip (8 instead of 4) but deals no damage at all, so you can use it solely for rocket jumping, you can use this for practicing rocket jumping or just fooling around
The Market Gardener Deals Crits when Rocket Jumping but with a 20% slower firing speed (or swing speed), its used mostly for Trolldier with the Rocket Jumper, but it still has some utility in a normal game depending on how you play
The Mantreads are the boots you saw at the Trolldier section, its used for the increase in air control to make movement easier but it also has a knockback resistance so that things like bullets and pyros wont screw you over to much while rocket jumping, it also limits you to only using the market gardener as Trolldier but it still this playstyle really well
Now Pyros are another thing I should talk about, if you didn't know Pyros hsve the ability to Airblast which pushes enemies and reflects projectiles, rockets being included, so you can't shoot Rockets at pyros, unless you know they can't or airblast or dunno how, you can use your shotgun against them but just bewarned that their fire damage can be pretty dangerous
However if you like rocket jumping you can use the Gunboats, it deals 80% less damage from rocket jumps which lets you do it consistently without sacrificing the normal rocket launcher or and its good in most situations since rocket jumping is a very important psrt of playing soldier, it does limit you to using only your rocket launcher and melee so be careful when encountering pyros
8:37 the play style that he is talking about is that you rocket jump with a weapon that does no damage and hit with a shovel, that shovel is an instant kill when launched in the air and wear some boots I forgot it's name to prevent from fall damage
trolldier is a playstyle for soldier that consists of 2 weapons
the meme spoon (Market Garden)
and the funni orange tube that deals no damage to u or enemies but still deals knockback to u only (Rocket Jumper)
basically u just jump with the tube and slap ppl with the spoon
13:54
The direct hit is like a sniper rifle but a rocket launcher like lazy purple said about airshooting this weapon is designed to airshot players from the air or destroying engineers buildings.
Fun fact: the song during thr troldier part is one of his songs called “it’s precipitating adult males”
7:16 nope, Mr Bainbridge actually said that TO Oppenheimer proceeding his life long goal go curb its weaponization
In the TF2 lore, the first person that was recruited as Soldier in 1850s was Stonewall Jackson
Im really enjoying this channel despite hating most reaction channels as i see it as milking others content but you actually sort of teach/tell your own stories as you go which makes it more of your content then the stuff you are reacting to
9:07
To quote Soundsmith: "You're not exactly aiming a gun at the enemy gamers, it's... more like you're aiming your entire body."
The TTS it's raining men bit is a reference to one of LazyPurple's biggest videos ever (It's Precipitating Adult Males) which sadly got supernuked by RUclips/Lazy himself due to copyright issues
one video that might give some insight on the trolldier as well as few other small tricks that are useful on every class would be How to Trolldier: Market Gardener Basics by SoundSmith
I highly recommend the comics. some of the funniest shit I have ever read
The Trolldier style is a style that most people don’t really like due to the soldier always flying
Fun fact in the Team Fortress 2 universe:
Abraham Lincoln was the Pyro class in the 1850's mercenary team AND he is the inventor of stairs..... :)
9:44 troldier is soldier with equiped Rocket jumper (Rocket louncher that don't deal DMG you can only use IT to Rocket jump) boots (that alow to take less fall DMG and hit enemys when land on them) and market gardener (mele weapon that you gain guaranted crits whail you are in air becouse of Rocket jump, enemy expolsives, or bhop)
The play style is called Trolldier, which is used to fuck with your enemies
You wanna hear what my great uncle Cletus said right before he was arrested during a freedom march?
I love the random sneeze in the middle of the video
Fun fact: red soldier and blu demoman (might be blu soldier and red demoman I don't remember) were friends in the comics
Fun fact: Abraham Lincoln in the Tf2 universe created the rocket launcher and invented the rocket jump technique
it is shakespearacles
Ayyyyyyyyy
Finally
btw
8:44 its trolldier, jump and mamrket garden ppl
13:56
less explosion radius, fast rocket with good damage go brrrrr
Your were so focused on knowing what the direct hit does you didn’t realized that kitchen gun reference
5:49 Considering in the comics it's established that Demo's body is so used to squeezing nutrients out of alcohol and haggis that it considers water poison, you probably aren't that far off with the withdrawal theory.
Awesome reaction!!! We wait you next part,, how it feels Play... "
Now i think its a good moment to react Soundsmith videos: hat stereotype, weapons stereotype and misc stereotype
Jeff definitely would play the civilian
trolldiering, basically jump with a "weapon" (rocket launcher, but you do no damage to either yourself or anyone)
and a shovel that gets Sharpness VI when you're jumping with rocket
also you can stomp people with the cosmetic.
wait what you actually guessed it lmao
Spot on about alcoholics. A regular person, you know when they're drunk. They're a mess. A hardcore alcoholic could be a fifth of liquor deep and talking to you perfectly coherently, even though they're blackout drunk. In fact they'll seem more noticeably off in the morning, when they're withdrawing.
Surprisingly enough, that Kenneth Bainbridge quote's real
i dont think he says it in the video but threw out the whole video lazy uses an item called the gunboats which replace the shotgun but he doesn't take as much damage from his own rockets
Rocket jumper is for no self-damage from rockets, reason mantreads is used with trolldier is because of higher mobility
the mantreads not the gunboats
You really shouldn't worry about learning to rocket jump right now. You're trying to learn how to do a wheelie before learning how to ride without training wheels first. A rocket jumping soldier is pretty worthless unless you've put in thousands of hours into it but even then I'd rather have a solder giving cover fire taking out sentries and killing more threatening classes instead of bouncing around the map killing 1 or two people and then instantly dying. Let the spies do the flanking.
16:50 “The fact that worked is a hilarious troll, also a lot of people died”
We may not be descedntants of Washington but Lincoln is infact, canonically, a pyro in TF2 lore. He also invented the rocket jump and stairs... Because why not lol
