I started wearing cowboy hats and haven't worn a baseball cap ever since. The Stetson does a far superior job of blocking the sun but also serves as a portable umbrella when needed. But unlike baseball caps, they don't fold up and go in my back pocket.
My dad is a farmer and just about every agriculture company or business hands out branded caps constantly (they're very functional for a farmer). Probably had well over 300 in our basement before my mother went through and purged them a few years ago! Now my brother has a rotation of about 10 that he chooses between to match his outfits/what function he's going to.
As a person who spends alot of time outside I'd say that full brim hats are for the serious outdoor person. I suggest ball caps for short endeavors outside in the sun. Just my opinion though.
Hi Antonio! What I'd also to like add to the cinematic history for the baseball cap is from a the movie: "OVER THE TOP w Sly Stallone" way back 1985. The trucker/arm-wrestling character he portrayed - "Lincoln Hawk," would always turn his cap around where the visor would transfer to the back of his head before an arm-wrestling match - which acts like a switch-ON button for the match. Never forgot that "Bonneau Baseball Cap" from that movie.
I've worn ballcaps since I was a young high school kid 40+ years ago. But now as an older guy I abide by certain rules. I only wear them if I am also wearing jeans, shorts, or sweatpants (the latter I only wear to the grocery store and other minor errands). Anything more formal I go with a flat cap. And I have never worn one backwards since my 30th birthday. There's a time and a place for baseball caps and it's good to know when they are.
I got used to wearing baseball-style caps while in the military. Any time I went to a different unit, they had that unit on their 'cover' that was everyday work attire. Sometimes one would collect several caps with the same unit. Since I have retired, I have a collection of over 100 baseball-style caps. Many are from my time in the service (and I don't wear any more) but many are either military related or from places I've been that either didn't have my tee shirt size or a tee shirt that I believed was cost-appropriate. Very much enjoyed the video!
So.....the RUclips algorithm finally saw fit to bring this video to my attention after a year. Baseball caps never appealed to me until an unusual event some years ago. My favorite activity is to explore states, provinces and countries by riding a bicycle from city to city. By pure coincidence I was cycling through Luxembourg city on the day of the time trials of the first stage of the Tour de Luxembourg. Someone was walking through the crowd and handing out black fitted baseball caps with the Tour de Luxembourg logo stitched onto the front. He handed one to me and now it's a prized possession which I wear often. It is surprisingly high quality for a freebee souvenir and has held up very well over the years.
You couldn't figure out the functionality of a cap? I'm going to assume you're far away from an engineer or anything that requires more than 5 braincells
Hey Marine, If you look at Soldiers and Airmen from the 1960s and 70 the hat worn with the fatigues was a baseball-style hat. It wasn't until the BDUs came out in 81 that we went to the patrol cap.
I knew someone would add this bit to the history of the baseball cap. My dad (Army) wore the Field cap which was more cylindrical until he retired in 1967. By the time I was in the Army ROTC and Army Reserve (1974-85) they’d switched to the baseball cap.
My grandfather wore them until he passed about 10 yrs ago. He wore ATL Braves caps 🧢, he was a life long ATL Braves fan. He also worked outdoors and wore many straw hats.
Two reasons why I did wear a baseball cap even though I am not a fan... As you can see on my picture, my hairstyle is bold. On a hot summerday at an outdoor event, I went without and due to my hairstyle I was burning up! I had to buy one on the spot to prevent further agony and it served another purpose when I did put it on. It didn't matter anymore that I have a shaven head, as it didn't matter if I had hair or not, the cap solved that too. Still no fan of caps tho, but it's functional. Great video Antonio. Thumbs up
Fascinating. I prefer Flexfit because snapbacks are drafty at the back of my bald head. Although my go-to is a flat cap, giving a little more prtection from sun to the tops of my ears.
army cap are cooler , you can get them in black , have shorter brim and smaller , and are also cheaper since you don t pay for the team or whatever is is on the cap and will not get you in figth if come across some one from rival team
Hey! This video arrived just in time. I lost my only baseball cap a few days ago and was going to buy another one. I need just one, but I want the best one.
I made the cap a permanent part of my outfit when I my natural head covering started to go away. But watching this video made me want to go out and take a peek for something a little better to wear every day. I don't recommend fitted. They don't fit forever.
I use them on vacations and on weekends. I'm in the process of letting my hair grow and it's amazing that I just need to put a cap on and I'm good to go. I'm more of a bucket hat guy, but I've yet to get one that I really wanna wear. In Japan most guys use bucket hats not baseball caps.
Great video and thank you for the mention of skin cancer prevention. This is an underrated reason to wear a hat, and important to the long term health many guys.
I'm a rancher. Where i live the wind blows too hard and too often to wear a cowboy hat. So I wear ball cap and put sunscreen on my ears and neck. I don't have to buy them though. We get them for free from bull producers and Napa auto parts purchases.
Great video Athonio. Most of the times I wear caps in winter to keep a little more heat in the body or in summer to prevent a sunstroke/ heatstroke. Indeed only basic colors and for me personaly no loud logo's or sportteams.
I know they are as popular as ever. But I stopped wearing them in favour of other styles. I don’t find them stylish on me at all. No questioning their functionality though. :)
I'm not in love with baseball caps, and never have been; I'm more of a flat-cap sort of guy. But I've been wearing them more in the past couple of years, sicne they're at least practical: they keep the sun out of your eyes while driving, and they keep water from dripping into your face when you're wearing a hooded raincoat. That's about it, though, and I've chiefly been wearing them since buying a car.
Hello. 2nd video on deck. Enjoying the content. I’m a Goorins Cap guy, I got too many of them and I also wear Cowboy hats cuz I’m a Rancher in Mississippi. The men you used as examples are how one should wear a baseball cap but I've noticed, in reality, the men in everyday life that wear them seem to ALWAYS wear them. Turns me off to walk into a place and see 40% of guys in caps.
@realmenrealstyle is there an age limit or a certain time when you should wear a baseball cap? i.e. Is it ok to wear with casual workwear clothing such as golf pants and polo?
Personally, for sun protection first and foremost as I'm bald and van burn my head at night, and I know too many people battling the big C right now. Secondly, for warmth in winter. Several different baseball caps including team for when i go watch different sports. Have a few Akubra's (I'm from Aus) for when I need more than a cap can provide.
Hi, I have lived 10 years in northen Italy. Speaking with many italian girls and observation I had an impression that general rule in Italy is that if you are older than 12 years old, baseball caps are allowed for sport, sightseeing, grocery shopping, various physical works in a sun, etc. Never try to pick up girls, or joining a party in a baseball cap. If you really need to wear one, avoid caps with big, colourful logos (wearing such caps in italy is considered a low status symbol unless you have a good excuse: for example, you are a Ferrari enthusiast on Ferrari meeting, or you go on hip-hop concert, or if you really stay behind the message on your cap), make sure it is sunny, so you have an excuse to wear it.
By the way, I would dare them to take it off of my head. Crazy it could be that big of a deal to people you don’t even know. By the way I would die for my hats
I once threw a party for my birthday (I wanna say it was 23?) Anyway, it was a hat party. I only had 3 rules. No beanies, no baseball caps, no beanies with beaks. Because those hats are generic and abundant as hell. For anyone curious, it was a pretty sweet party
Guys love baseball caps because they are not heavy on the head, they provide shade to see well, they are small and don't cost a small fortune so you don't have to worry about crushing them or getting them wet, they look sharp and they are quintessentially American. Guys are never going to stop wearing them and that's good.
Hey, So i know a lot of your style is based around finer fabrics, but i am a hard worker and want to look stylish while expressing that my work is dirty and hard. I cant really afford tailoring,, so it would be really interesting to see you talk about how to make work wear stylish
Love the video but I was hoping you could expand the content to more traditional men's hats. I've been wearing a flat cap more frequently just because it's more versatile. I'd love to see a video about fedoras, Panama's, bowlers etc.
Depends on face and skull.. some guys are made for this. For example the pics of Robert Reford, Paul Newman.. simply great. Can guys look cooler?? Unfortunately it's not the real thing for me. Trucker hats imo are only for truckers. Most people look cheap in it.
Now that I wear eye glasses I have to wear a cap to block the glare of the sun coming from the top and to keep rain off my glasses. I hate looking through water spots.
Hi Antonio. Hope you're well, mate. Excellent video. I have quite a cap collection because I have been shaving my head for the past 25 years. I started off wearing it to protect my skin up top from the harsh African sun, but it quickly evolved into part of my style and fashion. I know we're not supposed to wear it when in a suit but I recently wore a cap with a suit at a funeral - obviously while outside to shield the sun only. I got two compliments on how well it worked with my suit. As a rule we shouldn't but because it was scorching outside I had to. It matters on the type of cap, the colour as well. The flat peak is a no-no because it gives off too much of a rap or ghetto vibe; go instead with the slim, curved peak, minimum design. It works. Kind of made me look like I was going to take a classy football team photo.
Good morning antonio....yes i have on a baseball cap getting a ready 2 go swimming...u can relate 2 my hat well since u served n the military... it says HONORING THE TUSKEGEE AIRMEN...excellent video...i just saw a celebrity wearing a baseball cap...walt clyde frazier....Antonio he is dressed to the 9s...peace my brother
They are more practical since they are only brimmed in the front making it easier to wear even in a car. I still wear a cap but with no logo. Caps can looks kiddie on some guys. Real hats like fedora's need to make a comeback, they look great but people don't spend as much time outside (plus cars) so they aren't as practical.
Would have liked to have heard your opinion on the appropriate curvature of the brim of the hat. Used to be that players would bend the edges of the brim downward after purchase, breaking it in a bit. But nowadays I see lots of young men leave the brim straight. Is it just a matter of personal preference?
realistically you can wear it however you want but now everyone is wearing them properly which is a curved brim weather snap or fitted.. they are sold flat because some people like a slight curve and others like a deep curve, it's more personal. flat brims are just goofy and should stay in the 2010s where they belong lol.
I am something of a "hat person." I have about 16 hats with brims, some of them custom made to my specifications and costing several hundred dollars apiece. While I was working, I was given many promotional ball caps, which I gave away or disposed of. I presently have three ball caps. Mostly, I wear them when shooting. They keep the sun out of my eyes, protect my face from flying cartridge cases and are compatible with hearing protectors. Thus I will concede some utility to ball caps. Otherwise, I regard them as a low and vulgar garment. I have but a single flat cap, but I wear it far, far more often than all my ball caps together.
Not a cop anymore but I wear one almost everyday. Still have my old cap from my dept. as well as others I gotten for gifts or cool ones I found that aligns with my interests. Its a great way to convey affiliation while being a good item of clothing for when you don't want to care about what you're wearing or do your hair. Pop a cap, a plaid shirt and jeans and you're good to go.
Seems like all the caps I see now are these 'low profile caps", where the front above the ril slants at a steep angle backwards. I hate those. It looks like the structured trucker hat is what I'm looking for
in my life i have worn baseball caps and kango's but recently i was wearing a Cabbie Hat Snap Brim with a bomber jacket and i tell you the looks i was getting, was beyond me, this is the first time me ever wearing this hat and now they are cool, now i want to watch the netflix show the pinky blinders if im not mistaken, it true what you wear does make a statement
From what I've been told by family and friends: to cover bold spotting, did not comb hair, lazy to brush long hair, gives off a younger look, showing love your team, hiding the bad plug ins, balding, incognito and last but not least blocking the sun.
Thomas Hughes' Tom Brown's School Days = 'only the louts wear caps'. I share that emotion. Baseball caps are a no for me - wear a trilby, or a Panama instead.
It's funny how I have to keep proving to people that I'm not bald... I wear hats so much , a couple of girls snatched my hat off after work one night, and they both said "you dooo have hair"!! Like they were completely shocked.. I just had some really bad hat head... But it was that moment that made me realize that I need to take it off every now and then or people will think I'm wearing it because I'm going bald...which a lot of guys do..
It's hard for young men to wear any other kind of hat without looking odd, older men can pull off other styles. Pleased the bucket hat has become more fashionable as gives better sun protection.

Being from Iowa, I always called the trucker cap a seed corn cap because grandpa always gave my dad and I his new caps from his seed dealer.

Similar for me. I wear baseball caps when I'm in shorts and cowboy hats when I'm in jeans
Is this when you’re on stage performing the YMCA?

in my life i have worn baseball caps and kango's but recently i was wearing a Cabbie Hat Snap Brim with a bomber jacket and i tell you the looks i was getting, was beyond me, this is the first time me ever wearing this hat and now they are cool, now i want to watch the netflix show the pinky blinders if im not mistaken, it true what you wear does make a statement
Never was into caps 🧢 so much better options
I never knew there are so many New York Yankee fans in Canada, judging by all the caps I’ve seen.
It's because baseball caps are awesome.
Since my hair is thinning, a hat protects my head from the Arizona sun.
I have 7 trucker snap backs
From what I've been told by family and friends: to cover bold spotting, did not comb hair, lazy to brush long hair, gives off a younger look, showing love your team, hiding the bad plug ins, balding, incognito and last but not least blocking the sun.
Thomas Hughes' Tom Brown's School Days = 'only the louts wear caps'. I share that emotion. Baseball caps are a no for me - wear a trilby, or a Panama instead.
I love wearing hats, in the winter for the cold and summer from the sun.
I like wearing my military veteran caps because it creates a conversation with other veterans.
I usually wear truckers during the summer, and strap backs during the fall and winter.
The inner pic at :29 is actually the 1883 New York Gothams.
I grew up calling cheaper trucker hats billboard hats
I love your history videos
My favorite are the guys who wear caps indoors, at night…
Entering my 30’s I decided to quit wearing baseball caps and STRICTLY wear flatcaps. Preferably only BLACK colored flatcaps.
I prefer classic hat fedora and panama but still have 9 bassbal hat
i don't wear them unless i go for a jog and it's really sunny
It's a Cuts long sleeve henley, isn't it?
It's funny how I have to keep proving to people that I'm not bald... I wear hats so much , a couple of girls snatched my hat off after work one night, and they both said "you dooo have hair"!! Like they were completely shocked.. I just had some really bad hat head... But it was that moment that made me realize that I need to take it off every now and then or people will think I'm wearing it because I'm going bald...which a lot of guys do..
Great video! Would like to hear a bit about wearing them backwards from a fashion standpoint.
You didn’t mention that the wrong team or color in the wrong part of a city can be a problem
so the knicks were originally a baseball team? cause if i'm not mistaken, the knicks were originally the knickerboxers
I’ve always worn one in sunny months. They serve a function, though when worn backwards they only serve to look childlike.
^I think "childish" is the word you actually want!
Rule 6: If you’re over the age of 18 stop wearing them backwards (unless you’re a photographer or an actual catcher).
...stop wearing them altogether.
It's a free country, amigo. Folks can wear caps if and when they want. Live and let live.
I started wearing them in my 30s as a way to hide my receding hairline 😂
@@adrianwalker2833 my body my choice
@@brownjatt21 Just because you can, does not mean you should...
I have a giant head, and all baseball caps looks very tiny on me. I don't like it. So i prefer flat caps. What can you tell about flat caps?
It's hard for young men to wear any other kind of hat without looking odd, older men can pull off other styles. Pleased the bucket hat has become more fashionable as gives better sun protection.
Because they make you look cool. And girls look cute in them too. :3
