  • Polarized is a series that explores the divide. Our goal is to see if we can find common ground despite our differences, both on the “right” and “left."
In episode two, we sit down with Alexander Carpenter, Executive Editor of Spectrum.

Im enjoying this cinversation a lot more than the other. Even tho i disagree with some points the reasonjng and hearing out why people believe differently is important. But i was disappointed he did not give his alternative perspective on what he believes regarding over coming (perfectionism) theology. Just said there is no capital T

I'm curious about why Love Reality is apparently so threatening to the SDA chuech organization. I know (distantly) some of the people who started it, and I've heard a little of their stuff. It doesnt seem contradictory to SDA teachings. And yet I've known of pastors who were fired over their involvement, and Ted continually brings LR up as some kind of existential threat to the church.

Probably because they teach pre-forgiveness of sin as though God would forgive you of something you haven't even committed yet. They also seem to take much inspiration from Todd White who is from the Word of Faith movement in the US.

I think there is a general culture within Adventism that we regard anything 'new', 'different', 'not the way we have always done it' with fear, suspicion and ready to reject it on the basis of hearsay and gossip.
I think in Adventism we value uniformity above all else. When that feels 'threatened' people act out of fear rather than with openness, love and kindness.
We act as if our own beliefs are so fragile that they cannot handle questioning or new ideas.
We also act as if God stopped speaking when Ellen White died. That there is nothing new to be learned and that the only truth can be found if it comes out of Adventists mouth. That God doesn't speak to anyone else ever. What arrogance and close mindedness!

@@cad27This is sad considering the church says we believe in present truth... what's the point if we don't even live that out?🤷🏾‍♀️ We laugh at Calvinists, Baptists, Methodists etc. because they believed what their founders did and remained there but how different are we then if we are not open to new truths that are presented if they are backed by biblical proof?

Because LR teaches a different Gospel and God than the SDA organization does. One that flies in the face of the sanctuary doctrine/investigative judgement.

SDA pastor Barry Black of the House/Senate in the U.S recently spoke on school shootings and said thoughts and prayers are nice but I think its time to bring measures of law to bear on the gun issue. While there are many Adventists in positions in the goverment like the gentleman you mentioned on the U.N,and Pastor Barry Black, you also have SDA representatives in politics/goverment like Dr Ben Carson who is being considered Trumps running mate.Carsons brand of Adventism represents hard right conservative Adventism and in truth as Carson finances and supports christain nationalists,so to do many conservative Adventists.Status quo Adventists. The truth of the bible is not the aim of perfection, but the aim of maturity. When asked near the end of her life if she was attaining perfection,Ellen said,I am not perfect ,I sin and ask for forgiveness and keep going forward and trying. She furthur said I could hardly stand to be on this dark earth if I had not the fellowship of my dear imperfect brethern. The sex abuse issue in the Adventist church alone gives validity to questioning the church, for our own saftey and survival.TicToc is babylonian baloney sandwiches to SDA kids. This young man at this magazine is very impressive.

Im a believer in perfectionist doctrine by grace and faith. As i see it all through the bible, not just forgiveness.
It is just how we approach it that is misguided imo.
What confuses me is that people wo dont believe in perfection are usually very up on social issues. But would not true perfection from God and us having the Holy spirit have us address social issues in the best way with God for good and hasten Jesus' 2nd coming too? Resulting in less suffering/hurt and sin in the long run?
