Telling people "Just pick something and go with it", that's wrong advice from my own experience, you need to speak to mentors in the space you have the dilemma and you can learn from their experience and not yours, that's the best answer to such a question. Reason being, you really can't solve some problems without having huge experience in the field and thus just a simple phone call with the right person can give you a lot of clarity and unhide so many things you would never have in a million have thought about.
Yo I just wanna give some respect to everyone who watched the video. You could sum this 5 min clip up by the thumbnail: "You don't know!" But yet, here you all are, watching the video anyhow to get better context. Keep it up, you're doing great everyone! Hope you have a good day!
I needed to hear this! Specifically this part: “The only thing I know that seems practical is... are you happy?” I moved to NYC at the beginning of the year for no reason other than to be able to hang out with my brothers more, to experience nyc, and because I’m single so I could just up and move like that. I’ve been debating whether or not to move back at the end of the year. “The only thing I know that seems practical is... are you happy?” That lined did it for me. It’s not that I’m not happy, but deep down I know I would be happier going back. : )
The answers to both these questions instantly made me think of the poem The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost. GARY YOU'RE A MODERN DAY NON RHYMING POET GENIUS. Here's the poem for anyone who likes that kinda stuff. The Road Not Taken Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.
*0:47** is me wow!! I’m stopping my college route to pursue flight training + youtube, and hopefully finishing my bachelors later. I love this video, because it’s very true!! And ultimately as long as you end up happy or your version of successful, whatever that may look like, you picked the right decision. No looking back.* :)
Omg I'm releaved, I was been hard on myself all these years blaming myself going to college and choose a certain major and having panic attacks all that time and I'm just like this girl but after I made the decision, and that simple notion changes everything, I can't thank you enough
I’m struggling the same!! But how did you find/choose that one thing!?? I have many different choices that makes me happy, but that’s not possible to do at the same time!!
@@vaidehi4273 I just did the first thing that came to my mind and sometimes I choose to do the things I'm most curious and obsessed about, I don't say that I got it all figured out but I think I'm on a good track now
Thank you Gary! This was a much needed one..! No overthinking- No overanalysing. Do what you feel is right. Cos you’ll never know about the #roadnottaken
I just feel it. You will feel it when any words you speak to the person or prospect you are working with, feels completely natural. Even if it isn’t natural, it’ll come in time!!😄
Very valuable way to think. Alan Watts said the same about choices in a different way, " EVERY choice is the RIGHT choice. " - " You can't make a mistake, whatever you do, 'cause even if you do something that seems totally disastrous, it will all came out in the wash somehow or other. "
Oh my god. This is exactly what I was wondering in my life right now. What to choose, I was so scared that no matter the choices are I would have failed. "If the choices work out for you it's good if it does not adjust"
In truth you only really know when the results of the decision you have made are what you wanted or better. I say focus less on worrying whether you make the right choice/decisions and just make a decision
No. Even if the results are what you wanted, you still don't know. Consider again Gary's point about the girl enjoying enormous success but ending up on a plane that crashes, killing her. The point is, you cannot know... ever. And, making peace with this not-knowing, the best anyone can do is choose to maximize happiness, while forgetting ideas like 'better' and 'best'. Cheers!
Sooo true.....people want to know they're making the right decision and latch on to that, when in reality there's no way to know, so trust in your own happiness.:)
Man, I get such a thrill from watching your videos, not only because I learn but also because what you're doing is what all Baby Boomers and GenXers should be doing, passing down their wisdom to the next generations and you do it with such respect and appreciation for younger and older generations. I think that THAT thrills me even more in a way, hehe. Saludos, Gary! Mucho amor desde México
Gary, I am 71. A retired secretary. I have wanted to resell for most of my life..never thought there was $ in it. I have been listening to your videos for a month. Absolutely, amazing. I think you are brilliant. You've changed my life. I have 1 favor. Please cool it on the "F" word. It keeps rolling around in my head and I'm afraid it is going to slip out one day at church. (Not good) God Bless you.

Agreed. Choose something. Do your best analysis, and take a chance. I graduated college without debt because I made a choice and committedTo it. I don’t have student loans so it’s allowed me to try new things, read a ton of books, and explore my opportunities.. A degree is just a piece of paper. What you do with your life is so much more important than what you major in.

Its not wrong advice at all. Make any choice It doesn’t matter tbh You could listen to the mentor be right and die shortly after on the drive home You’re Damned if You Do and Damned if you dont. Indecision just makes the situation worse.
Media Don Well man we’re not going to live in this earthly realm forever. We’re born , make a bunch of decisions to the best of our ability. Learn, then make more decisions, then die. We’re not getting out of this life alive That’s all our mentors did was make a bunch of decisions then die Even if you do nothing that’s still a decision

Even in “Think And Grow Rich” There is a chapter on decision. We choose and make choices most of the time due to the information and awareness that we have at the time
I actually really needed this right at this time. I’m building a travel adventure brand right now but my other option is going to school and taking an outdoor adventure program. I decided to do the travel adventure brand because that will make me more happier but it’s more riskier. Now i just got to work hard and be patient and see what happens.
I think the question the second guy was trying to ask was, "How do you know when to adjust?" I'm wondering if Gary would still say, "You'll never know."
@GaryVee : That’s right but Knowledge (High school and University) can give more ways to choose with learning and study and also with experience people can choose.......this two things coexist and can’t be separated or can’t miss
I’ve been having such a hard time deciding weather or not I wanted to stay in my hometown or move back to Florida with my grandma and finish school, it’s just hard to decide because I’ve lived there before and we kinda bumped heads and I didn’t have any friends there plus I’m trying to model also and everything was new to me down there where as in my hometown I know a lil more people and have certain photographers, and know what to expect but not so much as Florida but this video definitely helped me find ways to come to a decision, I can be be very indecisive sometimes and overthink it.

The fact that we'll never know what would've happened had we made a different decision is a bit of a good thing. Knowing that we always have a choice is good and frustrating as I like everyone else overthinks everything

I’m also struggling if I’m doing the right thing or not coz I recently moved out of the house and started to rent even if I’m work from home which doesn’t make sense to everyone who hears my reason why I moved out but I did this because I want to experience and know to myself if I can live away from our house and my family since I’m planning to go abroad for work. It’s like a training so I will know if I should pursue to apply working abroad or not.

what does it mean perfect decision. There is obviously a right decision.and the right is not based on the result.
True words here. People get debilitated by indecision. Just be decisive and put all your efforts into it.. ASSESS - LEARN - GROW - ACTION
Put all your efforts into ASSESS?

The Road Not Taken
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
