Thanks for the fantastic video on pruning the acers. It was a bit hard to see the detail of the Sango Kaku pruning with all the green of the grass in the background, perhaps a dark background like the Sir Damon was perfect. Thank you once again.

Hey my dude love your channel I learn a lot from you .. I believe the correct pronunciation for sango kaku is "sang-gew, kackew" .. love the pruning vids its great to know what the plant is going to do in the long hall for sure

I tried to use aluminium wire and bamboo stick to shape a sango kaku last winter, but it did not work out as expected. These branches seem to have died with the red bark turning dark, not sure what happened.

Could you do close ups of what you are observing and what you are considering when you prune?

I enjoyed watching your videos , I recently bought my first maple tree from a local small private nursery, and also got another from Facebook Market, I do have a question though with the Sango Kaku I bought

Lovely, healthy looking trees. Does the SK bark turn red/coral with age or is it a seasonal reaction?

The Sango Kaku bark turns red in the fall/winter (into early spring) and fades to brown in summer. New growth is the brightest red.

@@JonnyMaple Thank you, I bought one recently but all the branches are green, I was worried I had mixed up the tags at the nursery.

@@JonnyMaple do older sango kaku trees that are say- very established and planted in the ground keep the red bark once they are many years old? or does the older bark remain brown even in autumn? Is it only new growth that is red ? Just curious to learn thankyou
