I have a three year old osakazuki, in a large pot, here in the UK midlands. It has been unremarkable up until late October this year, and in early November it is now ablaze.. it was certainly worth the wait!

I agree, it's a stunning tree in fall, most years. The foliage of many of my trees including Osakazuki just dried up this year without really changing color. Several of them haven't even lost their leaves. Kind of interesting, but not so impressive.

Not the most impressive tree in summer, but really stunning in the fall. And besides, it can take more wind than most other Japanese maples, and the something good for sure.

@@mbeeme355what does “take more wind” actually mean? Is that regarding the risk of leaf scorch, or branch damage, or something else?

@@FonterraEatsYou I have experienced that several of my maples have died during leafing out because they have dried out. They have not been able to protect them selves against the spring wind at the same time as they were spending energy on leafing out. It has taken me several seasons and many trees to find out how to protect them and where to place them in order for them to survive this critical time of the year. This tree is actually placed where there is some wind, but it has shown good resilience. It is a very strong tree, and it has shown good growth and development since I've got it . There has not been any troubles with it. Sturdy and hardy, a tree to count on.

how many days do take the color change and what temperatures do

It took about 3 -4 weeks all together, and there was no frost in this period. The temperatures were about between 10 and 5 celsius. As I tried to show in the video, all the other maples dropped the leaves even before Osakazuki came to its full glory. Also its nice how this tree keeps almost all its leaves while changing the colors. The best maple for autumn color in my collection. I have also published a video from were Osakazuki is nearly completely green. Its not that stunning when its all green, but its still a beautiful tree. Another nice thing with this tree is that it can tolerate some more wind than most of the other maples. And that makes it more robust all together.

Thanks for the great video. I was wondering how old this tree is.

Thank you for liking the video 🙂I bought the tree the summer of 2021. I pruned it some during that winter and it has grown back a bit this summer. So I don't really know how old it is.

Comparing this tree with another tree I bought as very small in 2017, I would think it is about the same age, so about 5 or 6 years.
