Dude! I think we all did! Lol. The first time watching this, I HAD to pause at LEAST 50 times! Not even exaggerating! I have to know what goes through your mind when making these arrangements!! ESPECIALLY this one! How does one come up with such killer arrangements like this at just 18 years old?! Also, how were you guys able to pull something like THIS off virtually from around the world?! You're insane, dude! This is one of the most, if not THE MOST, intense acapella arrangement EVER!! And this is coming from someone who has been listening to acapella for about 8 years. I have listened to so many groups and songs over those 8 years and out of EVERYTHING I have heard so far, THIS was one of the most TOP NOTCH ones!! Love your arrangements, man! I see a bright future for you, dude!! Keep up the great work!!

I'm quite a recent subscriber to yourself, Peter, and the Bass Gang but going back through what you've all done is proving to be great fun (and also informative). I love how excited you became over seeing all the hard work, from all of you, come together in it's final format - you were like a kid on Christmas morning seeing his pile of presents and not knowing where to start! Your delight and pride is so obvious and definitely justified! This is a cracking performance from you all, in all aspects not just the vocal but production, arrangements; the whole shebang - love it! 👍
Jonathon Young fitted in perfectly here - what rock voice he has! I'm not in any way musical so hearing what notes were hit doesn't mean a lot to me but hearing you describe different vocal techniques is interesting. As a big rock fan, (I suspect from some of your reactions you're a bit of a rocker at heart yourself, young man 🤘😉) it's always puzzled me how those rock belters manage to consistently produce those sounds, especially night after night when on tour - presumably lots of practice at specific techniques and as much rest in between as possible?

I'm late to the party (as always!), but I have to say -
    1. You guys are amazing, in so, so many ways. The sheer talent on display here is overwhelming, both individually and as a collective, and it's a very special thing to watch the artist see their finished product for the first time, thank you for giving the world a glimpse of that experience.
    2. (Sorry, this one might be wordy!) Thank you for sharing your knowledge of music in an honest and non-conceited way. Music has always fascinated me, and I have always been in awe of people who are capable of producing it. I had always wanted to learn how to sing, play instruments, etc., but never had a teacher who was able, or willing, to explain it in a way that I understood, and before I had finished elementary school I was relegated to writing reports because I was deemed incapable of learning anything about the actual art of making music, and I resigned myself to that truth. Since I started watching videos that you, other Bass Gang members, The Charismatic Voice, The Fairy Voice Mother, and others have put out, I have learned so much, you have a way of explaining techniques and terminology in a very professional but universally understandable way. I may never be able to sing or play instruments like I always dreamed, but you have helped me to realize the truth in the phrase, "Anyone can learn with the right teacher.", and also enriched my listening experience.
    3. I'm positive Jonathan felt just as honoured to perform with you as you did with him! ❤
    Keep being amazing!

I gotta say... After Mad World being like ALL basement bass... this felt almost "Baritone". I'm loving it though, and I think Marwan arranged this to really show off that Jonathan Bass Growl thing he do.
Tomi P doing what Tomi P do with that Tenor like high range... Good job boys!

    • @PeterBarber
      @PeterBarber  2 года назад +4

I've seem other similar comments, and I find it interesting -- there's certainly more bass in the solo lines for Mad World, but the bass lines in the background on this song are absolutely bonkers. Tons and tons of everything from B1 down to C1 (every Bass Gang member sustains a C1 in this song). It seems like no one (even the reactors) are registering that Marwan comes out of the gate with E1 subharmonics, the same note and technique as Geoff's last note in VoicePlay's Oogie Boogie song -- it's wild! And then the bass line stays around there for a lot of the time -- it was the hardest bass line I've ever had to record, no question. But there is so much going on in the arrangement, so I understand that people aren't paying as much attention to the bass lines

@@PeterBarber Bobby and Jonathan actually talked about this (kinda) in that tutorial you mentioned. Our ears are naturally drawn to higher pitch sounds so they stand out more. I think you really have to focus/listen to the bass line to hear it in this song, because there is a lot going on above it. As far as no one noticing Marwan hitting that E1 at the beginning, it's funny how much our ears/expectations have changed in the past few years when it comes to those crazy low notes you all can do!

@@PeterBarber Yeah man, I think that's it... Mad World was just overall lower, without too much going above (it fit the original piece)...
It took me a few listens once you mentioned the bass lines, and Marwans E1 sub... then I really started to hear it. Not to mention, someone of your caliber saying it was the hardest bass line to perform/record... That speaks volumes, I mean, dude... you're a professional opera singer!
Marwan is a crazy arranger... and I mean that in all the best ways. I can only imagine what he will bring out in the future if this is him just 18 years old...
I can't wait for Monday and see what The Bass Gang drops next. I'm loving what you guys are up to.
Random question, have you and the rest of TBG ever actually met in person, or has it always been video/online?

Congrats on the Sante Fe Opera, Peter!
This cover was amazing! You guys keep blowing our minds!
Also, now I feel kinda old when you said you can't remember what that sample was. 😄 It's from the song Tom's Diner by Suzanne Vega.
Great job guys! Can't wait for the next one!

Jonathan’s “ohhh yeah” and “history” totally gave me Jack Black/Tenacious D “pick of Destiny” vibes, lol

I really enjoy watching your reactions. Plus I like how you breakdown and thoroughly explain how the artist hit certain notes and how the songs are put together. Love your work. Oh and congratulations on your apprenticeship.
