"well I'm not bored by this"
HIGHEST PRAISE THANK YOU SO MUCH HERMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm sorry you had to sit through another TTFAF cover but it means the world to me dude!
💙 You killed it.
I also am not bored by RichaadEB
Nice Petrucci guitar too!!!
You were amazing!
Youre sick dude!
watching herman's facial expressions is like whatching a proud father watching his kid make great plays and score during those solos lol and they were so fire!
I felt this too!
They were also flames
@@War624 and they also went through
Like you can tell from the expression "oh, this is a tough bit, yep, he pulled it off, nice."
This...
I like how the chat is being cliche music snob, and the literal artist is giving praise
I was thinking the same, the chat is f*cking cancer.
What I found funny was that once he started praising them chat suddenly changed tunes real quick.
Chat in streams are always like that, it's like if a dog too a massive half liquid shit on a escalator. It's worse when it's metal because it's ALWAYS got metal elitist arm chair posers that are furthest thing from being apart of the music scene. They usually go to one or two big concerts a year at the most and act like they know it all. The true fans of the genre that been to atleast one sketchy bar, put in atleast a show every month, and have grown knowledge from touring bands, know to appreciate all musicians that are out there doing it even if you're not a fan. The local kids playing playing their first cover is still out there doing it, the guy streaming himself playing the guitar is still doing it, the guys busting his ass to promote his shows is still doing it, the kids buying the albums proved the bands are doing it, and that's part of the respect that the useless metal elitists will never understand. You can be critical of artists too as let's them grow, still have to give respect, but then there is just being a asshole like seen in chat being dipshits. Those are the ones truly killing the genre.
yeah wtf, such narrow minded people in chat. i wanted to smack them the whole time when I glanced over there
I think one of the biggest problems of chat-like systems, is the same problem that twitter has. There's only so much you can write that will be read, meaning, thoughts are unnecessarily condensed in to seemingly stupid statements/commments. Whereas here where there is essentially no limit on what will be read, there's nuance. But also, chat is cancer.
So freaking proud of my boys Rich & Jonathan!🙏
Please check out their original music too if you're keen, they're insane musicians
🙏🙏🙏
Starship Velociraptor from JY is really fun album. I went for a long drive with my car and listened to it. So good.
Hi Alex!! Love to see you in Mihoyo stream!!
@@Dubbel12 There are some awesome tunes on that album. Even if they are synthesized and most likely cannot be done by a real person (The guitar parts on some of them)...
@@mortendreier4446 Its just part of the charm imo. Its suppose to be very 80s and "industrial" if that makes any sense.
"Im not bored by it"
The highest praise Herman could ever say about a cover.
That's what I'm gonna saying about his power metal
How about saying « i need guitar lessons from this guy » when watching Dooo’s cover?
It's like watching Uncle Roger telling Joshua Weissman that he did really good for a white guy making Asian food.
6:25 "one of the best ones I've seen" Jonathan is probably fan boy screaming somewhere lol
He's fan boy screaming in the comments lol
I can still hear him screaming 10 months on in Britain 🤣
jesus you were the last person I was expecting to see here LMAO
Where's the Cyberdark Deck Profile?
@@Zero_Requiem_ it's already out lol
Jonathan actually is known for both his amazing voice and ability to play many instruments not just drums.
Greatest example of this is his cover of Eye of the Tiger, where everything you hear is just him
he is also an excellent Guitar player himself although not at the same level as Richaad
His voice sounds so overproduced to the point of sounding fake.
@@-8h- sure hun

Lie harder bud..
You’re a good sport, Herman. Jonathan Young is an amazing artist. So glad you reacted to his cover of your song in such a professional way. Thank you, and rock on. 🤘🎸🎵
What a talent!
@@dragonforce He is something else Herman. Jonathan Young is a massive inspiration to me for finding my old self back when my childhood was some sort of awesome stuff with Disney songs. He makes Disney songs and turns them into something more awesome is what I'm saying.
They did a great job and as Herman said, put an original touch on the song and one of the best covers I've ever seen. 🤘🤘
@@markdemars7648 especially his cover of Hellfire….I mean, my GOD…
That's Herman though. He didn't even lose his mind all that much when Twitch banned him for playing his own music which no one would have held against him. Herman just isn't a negative or malicious person.
Its super interesting to see a baritone cover a power metal song where high voices typically reign. Jonathan is such a great vocalist, hes got great diversity with his music and covers
I think this is part why I have such a thing for Sabaton myself. Joakim has such a unique and special voice in the genre, it's hard to not just love it
Someone in the chat said "This guy is great at singing with his eyebrows" and I can't argue. Jon's great as a vocalist and as a showman.
@@mitchellblake1475 came here to rep Joakim and Sabaton. My favorite band.
@@OtakuUnitedStudio Asmongold would be proud.
One day he's doing DragonForce, the next he's doing Celine Dion. To say he has "range" is an understatement :P
Holy shit, the guitarist from DragonForce recognized and even said he LIKED Jonathan youngs and RichaaedB's music. They've come so far! Reminds me when Jonathan did the actual cover for beyblade burst
i dont think that was a cover... i remember him actually being contracted to sing it
@@whitemoonwolf13
He was contracted indeed. That's true.
Beyblade burst is not a cover but infact a official piece.))
@@guytheincognito4186 and there's also the brokenbrow song, which iirc is also official
I like how unflattering "I'm not bored by this" looks in text, but how impressive it sounds when you hear it spoken in the video.
yeah its the sort of "you had to be there" kind of compliment, especially from Herman Li
Chat: oh he's so bad he sucks lol
Herman: he's pretty good
Chat: he's pretty good
lol
Chat will forever be filled with sheep, no matter the platform or the person
yeah Herman's chat is pretty bad when it comes to him watching any music that isnt their own
Typical live chat as expected
I basically only watch Herman Li videos cause of his twitch chat.
It's my daily dose of cringe, a lot of music experts in there.
Ngl, Herman; "Through the Fire and Flames Cover" is almost a genre in of itself as time goes on
That recommendation for “Let it go” next was hilarious. For real though Jonathan Young is way underrated and Rich just shreds everything
I was hoping he'd go into a reaction video for that too.
JoYo actually has a pretty sizable following on RUclips in comparison to some of his friends who have been on for much longer. FamilyJules has 506k followers compared to Jon's 1.96m.
@@OtakuUnitedStudio I think the difference is that Jules tends to just stay with in the relm of VGM, while people like Jon and Caleb do everything. More people are gonna look up Be a man covers than they are FFVII covers, unfortunately.
I just love that Jonathan Young and RichardEB now has officially the best cover of Through The Fire And The Flames to date as declared by Herman Li himself! :D
Young is a savant. A goddamn Mozart of this generation. He's good at everything, drums, piano, guitar, bass, keytar, singing. Dude is ridiculous
Why don't more people realize this.
@@BeingBetter Because the RUclips Algorithm is actually pretty awful XD
In many ways, he is the Dave Grohl of RUclips.
Land of the Living is a masterpiece
He (Jonathan Young) has the voice similar (like Caleb) to old Reinessance Disney and DreamWorks songs. Fact that he can do Rock too just rekindles my childhood along with the beauty of development 😍.
I love Herman Li's facial reactions. It goes from "I can do that to WOW that was cool! to Man I need to learn that! to I'm pretty sure I can do that!" All while being humble! Love this man!
Covering "Through the Fire and Flames" has become a rite of passage of sorts. Not even necessarily to earn your approval, but to prove to themselves how far these artists have come.
I love how they covered this in such way that it is so different to the original song. They like recreated in their own style which is really cool.
Yeah, if someone just perfectly copies a song, what's the point of bothering to cover it?
jonathan young has a very low vocal range i think. either that or he deliberately sings below his natural register to try and sound more godly and ominous. he does the bass and the reinforced falsetto. he probably would sound a bit better if he stopped trying to "darken" his voice
great skill but the mix is so bad!
@@jamescheddar4896 well remember also its important for him to not shred his vocal cords while doing it, which is what he was trying to prevent, there are some high ass notes in through the fire and flames.
@@steves578 its not the pitch i have a problem with so much as the tone he's using combined with the track layering. he's trying to give off this zeus tone or something. compare it to someone like elvis and you'll see that jon has a very restrained vocal position
I like how you can see Herman anticipated the hard parts of the solo as they happen, and being blown away by how Richard tackles the problem in his own way.
those professional guitarist critics in the stream chat are funny. "Good but its just too much..." wasn't TtFaF already a bit extra to begin with? It was technically accurate and insane, and not a 1:1 recreation, it was great.
Yeah reading chat was a bit of a trip
"not bad." "Mhh it goes I guess" "average" "bad mix" "guitar mix kills the cover" "guitar is not too difficult, only fast" ????
Those people never touched a string in their lives
For real, how can a cover of TtFaF be "too much"? If it's not too much, it's not enough!
Reading the chat on the side was infuriating. What a bunch of know-it-alls.. Herman was great though.
I saw that multiple times, and just wanted to reach through my screen at them lol
Dragonforce in 2021: "We now accept that we will forever be a one-hit wonder band - and that is okay"
Well, they have had a lot of good songs. Just...Fire and Flame is whatever one remembers. Plus Guitar Heroes most likely didn't help. As that is how I came across the song and Dragonforce. So not too bad.
@@Qardo razor blade meltdown is pretty good
Dragon force has so many good songs. It's a shame that TTFAF is the first song anyone thinks of when you mention them.
@@stratigangames508 I think of Valley of the Damned, Soldiers of the Wasteland, Revolution Deathsquad, Scars of Yesterday or Seasons(+acoustic version). I've heard TTFAF so much, but I loved the other ones so much better.
I honestly wanted to try slower acoustic covers of their songs some day. At least those with whom the lyrics would actually make sense(and isn't already a slower song). Deciphering DF note sheets is maddening though.
I don't know what you're talking *listening to Soldiers in the wasteland*
everyone going "doesn't this mix sound too clean/off?" pretty sure each part was recorded separately, and then mixed together, so there's no bleedover between instrument tracks like you would find from recording all instruments together.
Plus they're using their own style to it. Like a proper cover and not a flat copy, sounded like they're playing a different tuning
not to mention that would be real talent trying to play all the instruments at once for only 2 guys
@@thesambehindtheslaughter8843 yeah, Johnathan's Covers usually are done in a lower key to work better with his Vocals
Imagine being a random person in twitch chat and having the confidence to disregard the opinion of a guitarist reacting to a guitar cover of a song that was released by his band.
Such is the anonymity of the internet, I'm afraid. 'Course, the only reason I even bothered listening to this cover was because it was done by Young, and REB was just an unexpected bonus. After numerous fairly crap covers I'll agree with Herman that it gets old, but Young not only did a cover worth listening to but did it in his own style you see in his other covers and original songs.
you dont have to be a five star chef to know when you dont like how the broccoli is cooked.
everyone is entitled to their own opinion
@@maevekirkland9452 Having your own opinion is fine. Acting like you're an expert when you are dispensing your opinion is an entirely different can of worms.
@@maevekirkland9452 There's a difference between:
- I don't like this broccoli because I don't like the way this broccoli is cooked -- (1)
- This broccoli is not cooked right -- (2)
(1) is an opinion (which is easily disregarded by others).
(2) is an attempted statement of fact (which holds weight if given by someone with experience/expertise).
As an aside and this is probably just me, it's a weird juxtaposition with "everyone is entitled to their own opinion" being a response to an opinion.
@@maevekirkland9452 Opinions are like buttholes; everyone has one, but there's something wrong with yours.
Herman literally thought we should all subscribe to their channels, they were so good. That's some awesome praise coming from a band Jonathan was inspired by. Of course, most of us have subscribed to them. They are fucking sick and I love it.
John’s got a lower vocal range, so they adjusted appropriately. It’s not as technically proficient, but there’s just so much personality and heart to it. I’d much rather hear this than the kid in a Guitar Center who can do it perfectly, but then it’s just copy/paste.
Now I can't stop thinking about how amazing a Dragonforce ft. Jonathan Young song would be.
Hearing it's not boring me with almost 0 context could come off condescending, then I realized this man played the song, has heard it God knows how many times, and has seen God knows how many covers. In retrospect of that having any original artist say that about your cover has got to be top tier praise. Holy crap that's impressive
This is insane to hear a band I listened to a teenager back in 2007 react to the guys I found on RUclips a few years ago, quite humbling to hear the praise because I know there are a lot of TTFAF covers out there, and while I think the original is still the best version, the Johnathan Young cover was by far the best cover I've ever heard.
DragonForce and Jonathan Young?
*Fanboying intensifies!!*
That was a freaking sick cover . That guitarist was destroying that guitar in those solos both yours and Sam's solos . Not too common to see them both be done in a cover. That was amazing.
RichaadEB is crazy good. Highly recommend you check him out
Love this cover and love this reaction. I had to laugh while reading a lot of comments about how "overwhelming" or "too much" the guitar work is in the cover. Dragonforce has always been notorious for having over the top solos, and that's part of why we love them.
im usually rather picky about which covers i like alongside the original (not to diss any, many of them are very good in their own right lol) but the changes added to this one was awesome and I love that Herman Li appreciates it in his own words lol
You oughtta react to the Melodicka Bros' "Through the Water and Waves"! Quite possibly the most unique TTFAF cover on RUclips.
I loooove that cover
When Herman is impressed by your playing (especially when covering his song), you're doing something right.
Jonathan knows how to break expectations in his vocals and Richard just KILLS it with the guitar
Richad EB is a GREAT Guitarist , love his anime theme and other covers
Easily one of the best guitarists on RUclips. Artificial Fear and Vincent Moretto are also fantastic.
Jonathan Young is my favorite artist, been following him since the beginning. Gotta praise his work.
Same. Be it rock, or more classical...
I liked the guys in chat saying "it's too much" or "they're overdoing it" like they're not watching Dragonforce's guitarist react to a Dragonforce cover 🤣🤣
This was like the love child of Amon Amarth, Skyrim, and Dragonforce. Amazing.
I'm glad that a rock legend like Herman can enjoy my boys Jonathan and RichaadEB's cover of their music.
You know you've done a great cover when you make Herman Li smile.
This cover being done in a different key, with a few twists in there, still keeping the spirit WITH those twists, as well as Richaad's kickass skills, makes this amazing.
just the video of Richaad doing both Herman's and Sam's solos in one take is mind blowing
You should see the FamilyJules one. He slips a whole bunch of video game themes into the solo. Plus, Caleb Hyles' voice is equally as amazing as Jonathan Young's.
The mighty Herman Li rendered speechless!!! That’s high praise! LOVE IT!
You know you did good when the MAN HERMAN LI HIMSELF beams with pride and is impressed by your skills. That's how you know you belong in the world of metal.
I can hear through the fire and the flames forever, though you should check out through the water and the waves
yes!
Yes
Was just thinking this
What's most impressive is the solo being pulled off single-manned, when it's meant to be split between two.
dude really added MORE notes to dragonforce
I genuinely just saw the cover yesterday too
And then I saw his Moonlight sonata cover
Dude has mad skills
Herman you should try doing a moonlight sonata cover too 🙂😀
I love Herman's reaction to the falsetto Jonothan used
Ill never get sick of Through The Fire And Flames NEVER After seeing it live Toronto 08 Mayhem Festival can never get tired of it!!!
Great song. Always will be. That said it's refreshing to hear it sung in a register in which I can understand the lyrics. Great cover, eternal classic!🤘
Jonathan is crazy good at enunciating the lyrics and still nailing the flow.
@@mmb6527 I feel he is one of the best musicians of our generation.
Herman Li is a national treasure in the music industry. There isn't many artists that even acknowledge covers of their own songs
The best part of Jonathan Young's covers and original songs is that you can see how much fun he's having while singing, which leads him to always add some crazy part to every song xd
I really hope this gives Jonathan young more recognition he deserves it
I really love that you aren't only watching these tributes but also give credit when someone is really good!
Now me, I can't even play this song on Guitar Hero so anyone who can even play have my greatest respect and admiration!
Should do a video on "DragonForce Reacts to Herman Li playing Through the Fire and the Flames." I hear that guy is really good.
I will NEVER tire of Through the Fire and Flames. Its too iconic to music to ever grow stale.
i legit squealed (in a very manly way) when i finally saw you reacted to joyo's and richard's version. it's sick seeing some of my favorite musicians getting some recognition!
All of Herman's reaction vids are like a parent watching their child growing up and becoming
successful!
LOL I was wondering if you'd see it, Jonathan has such a friggin powerful voice. I'm glad to see you pop up in my feed!
Black Fire was the song that got me into DragonForce, Disciples of Babylon ended up being my favorite but Through the Fire and Flames was the one that absolutely blew my mind.
Jonathan's dancing during the solo
Check out Jonathan Young's original album Starship Velociraptor! It's really awesome stuff.
Honestly wish more people would cover Symphony of the Night. That's my favorite song DF has done
Those guys did their homework that was an awesome cover and that guitarist is a beast. Herman don't be doubting yourself you are a sick guitarist too dragonforce rocks. I remember watching the old footage of you guys and I couldn't believe you were playing like that.
You got such a positive and chill vibe, like I would normally be nervous meeting such talented people but with you, I feel like I could just relax and just chat like one of the homeboys.
So glad this popped up on my feed. Loved the Jonathan Young and RichardEB cover of this and to see it praised is amazing.
The greatest thing can happen to you is having the Master prise you so much!!
I like the fact that you are impressed by someone else's playing. Considering your one of the most interesting to watch guitarists I've ever seen.
I love the way you break down your thoughts on covers. Can't wait to go to another DragonForce gig! ❤️
I like some of Jonathan Young's Disney song covers. Namely, "Prince Ali" from Aladdin, and "Be Prepared" from The Lion King.
What stands out about him most, is that he's a Baritone singer. Not a tenor like most guys try to be, but often fail at being. He's smart enough to stay within his natural range instead of trying to force himself out of it. He'll change the music arrangement to fit his voice, rather than force his voice to fit the music.
Herman and the various DF lineups have been a staple in my life since 2006 and seeing this super positive reaction to other artists I adore makes my heart swell.
That one guy in chat going, " but its too much .. too overwhelming"
L
yeah, and that one dude saying joyo uses voice modulator lmao twitch chat in a nutshell
This is amazing. Glad you looked up Jonathan, he is a fantastic artist just like you guys!
Some high praise for the lads here! Both so, so brilliant. Can see Richaad's seen it, hope Jonathan sees it too!
every time I've introduced to one of these covers..... it just takes me back to when I first heard Through the Fire and Flames....some 35 years into love of music and Rock and Roll.....as much as I loved the song....I just didn't appreciate it for the beautiful piece of artistry that it is. Herman Li.....you are truly a creative genius. Thank you for all that you've brought into the world of music! Love you dude.
Amazing! Through the fire and flames is too epic and thank you for creating it for all to enjoy
I just listened to this cover yesterday. So cool that you reacted to this!
Herman Li reaction to Richaad and Jonathan, damn! Finally they get some love for their awesome cover
Another really cool one from RichaadEB is his cover of Moonlight Sonata (3rd movement), way harder than it has any right to be
Someone needs to message Jonathan Young to react to this so that maybe we can get a collab!
I've been hoping you'd react to this cover - Jonathon has a ton of talent and Richaad with guitars is just insane.
I got Introduced to Dragenforce first when I listened the cover of Jonathan young and RichaadEB.
I was Desperately waiting for Herman to react on this cover.
I can't help but start singing when it gets to the chorus lol. Also, watching Richaad play really makes me wanna start playing again lmao.
Jonathan Young and RichaadEB is like a Dragon Ball fusion, they can defeat anyone and make even Herman Li not bored by a TTFAF cover.
This was awesome when I first heard it. One of my favorite artists on RUclips playing one of my favorite songs from my favorite band. I got so many chills from it
Your reactions are awesome! I’m so glad Jonathon Young is getting this kind of recognition.he deserves it! 🤘🔥
Never thought I would see Jonathan here but I'm glad I did. He just released a new cover today that I NEVER saw coming
that's awesome that you actually watch these I imagine even knowing the original artist saw it and liked it would be awesome and Johnathan young is a really cool dude so I'm sure he appreciated it.
I fuckin loved it haha, this was soo worth while to listen to. Both the approach of the guitar playing and his vocals made this very enjoyable to listen to this song again. I still love playing this on guitar hero which is how I even learned of this to begin with, but the original cover has gotton a bit stale for me since Iv played this on gh so much, but this new varient of this song brought out some of the same excitement out of me when I watched Dragonforce's original cover of this back in the mid 2000's. It was just fun to listen to again. I think they did a very good job.
I’d love to hear a “My Spirit Will Go On” cover. That song is my jam. That dude’s voice is sick too.
I can’t get enough of through the fire and flames. It always gets me pumped up
That was pretty epic they did a phenomenal job on your music and it was cool to see you dig it. 👍✌
Just popping in to say I love TtFatF and especially all this mutual respect between very talented musicians. Awesome to see.
On a side note. "Seasons" is one of my favorite songs ever. Both the regular mix and the acoustic version, both awesome in their own ways.
Keep being awesome.
This is great, both the cover and the original artist's reaction to it. Amazing stuff!
I'm so glad Jonathan's covers are getting more traction! He's such an amazing talent! 💕
I'll never stop listening to through thy fire and flames my absolute favorite song from you guys
Herman is a saint. He brought us the gift of rock. May we dull pics in his glory!
