1:35 I always notice something that no one ever points out. In the early development sketch of Yoshi, it sort of looks like it represents the "leaning forward" animation we see in Mario World. But if you look closely, the sketch is apparently actually showing two completely different dinosaurs, the regular Yoshi for ground levels, and a flying dinosaur for the ultimately scrapped sky levels.
Since the blocks are described as being transformed denizens of the Mushroom Kingdom, perhaps the scrapped block counter number kept track of how many of them you sacrificed for their items to determine whether you were a hero , or a god of death at the end of the game.
That's probably incorrect because the final product as well as the series it's self usely is family friendly and most games ESRB are E or E10+ meaning something that dark and morbid would never make it in any entries in the franchise
Even with people being turned into blocks, that doesn't mean you killed them by breaking them. Considering the bricks that turn into metal blocks and give coins or power-ups being stated in the SAME manual says that you free them any they reward you, I think it's a system limitation and a "use your imagination" design that they don't explicitly show them transform back into Toads.
Isn't that kinda similar to what Pokemon does in the case of Missingo and the other glitched Pokemon? The game stores your name in a part of the code used for encounters and stuff, so it tries to read your name as a Pokemon encounter, and loses it's mind.
*one pixel is different from the rest in the unused texture for an object* Hmm, this could be an entirely different object from this asset which _is_ used!
I feel like the "Number of blocks hit" counter could have had something to do with a game ending. Seeing as, in the manual, it states that the toads have been turned into brick blocks. Maybe there was originally something about an alternate ending based on how many blocks you broke.
Also, the glitched level structure comes out when you reach the 128th chunk of the game. Each area is divided into a chunk of 16 blocks, each block is made up of 256 square pixels, and each pixel is made up of 256 square subpixels. The chunk is represented in 0x0725, and when it reaches 0x80, or 128, it enters a negative value, and therefore, the game thinks you are in a parallel universe, and the level glitches out. If you travel to the 256th chunk, then the 0x0725 value will loop back to 0x00, and then the background is going to be normal. You will also see a strange flag without a flagpole without a hitbox. Even if there is, there would be no castle to let the time tick down.
8:40 Actually, it is world T-2, not world T-1. World T-1 is a pipe intermission stage that skips the first stage and lets you move on to the second stage. Because of that, worlds 1, 2, 4, and 7 actually have 5 stages instead of 4, making a total of 36 stages. Also, Marionaire was the one that named the sky corridor and world T areas.
Im happy that Super Mario turned out the way it is today, it changed my life playing my first ever Super Mario game, New Super Mario bros Wii, at only around 6 years old! And ever since then I have played so many Super Mario games! It was my way of feeling better after another hard day of being bullied by the entire grade in elementry school and having no friends....yes. I am often lonely still, but I have family and Super Mario to keep me company! What if it did end up as that shooting sort of game?.... I am just happy it hadn't.
@@gahler8552 ? Oh look, a comment I made from 4 years ago! That’s pretty cool, thanks for reminding me of it. Not sure what you mean though, these are just my thoughts on what I was seeing and I don’t see anything wrong with this one, so it’ll be staying.
In my opinion you when you said "the game everyone has to play at least once" it got me thinking how there's a lot of 12 year olds that think they're too old for Nintendo games and ironically changed how I view Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto 5, I now view them as the games edgy kids play
Legendary Gaming speaking on behalf of 12 year olds I own an nes and switch but not an Xbox. Well I have one but don't use it. Anyway I get what you mean I have friends that think call of duty is some sort of god. (I'm not friends with those sorts of people)
7:34 my theory is that those scattered objects in the background is that they were testing it,and so,the protagonist, Mario, you are in the background testing area
Ancient retro legends claim that Mario was once meant to scream "YAHOO!" Each time he jumped, this sound would not be possible to mute or to lower it's volume, which would also increase each time you Jump representing Mario's strain combined with his still positive attitude... ...Glad that didn't happen eh? *"YAHOO!!!!!"*
3:52 Some glitch levels use this timer setting, as well as 200. 6:04 Obviously! I already looked inside the game's files with SMB utility! And also, the scroll stop is missing! I could have done it myself, just delete the scroll stop sprites (or rather replace them by a goomba or whatever) and change/hide the L-shaped pipes, and there you go! 8:50 There are unused enemy behavior, for example this one (turn into a red Koopa when stomped on) or even bounce like mad and let you grind tons of 1-ups! Most of these behaviors are glitchy, like enemies inside walls or stuff like that, because the enemies cannot collide with ceilings in Super Mario Bros.
3:52 By the way, this timer setting is also used in coin heavens and the 4-2 warp zone as well. Also, Marionaire and DekoTheFemaleDragon dubbed dying because the timer started at 0 seconds as "Getting T'd up."
New fan here! I would love to see a lost bits episode on Metal Gear (NES Version). There is certainly a lot of lost bits in that game, perhaps a hidden Metal Gear TX-55. It would also be great to see an episode on Snake's Revenge, too! Lots of mysteries in that game as well.
I'm surprised, but the combination of the underground palette and overworld background tiles actually works pretty well. I'd have expected the background colours to be completely screwed up, or the wrong tiles to be loaded, or something along those lines. They could have actually used this combo in a real level.
These glitched levels look like Mario Maker levels, not to mention the blooper's unused above ground behavior made it to Mario Maker, Tetrabit mentions Mario Maker at 7:42, Mario Maker and Mario Bros is on a zero-first digit on the year (when the first digit is zero), the original version of Mario Bros can be replicated in Mario Maker, Mario Maker even has Mario Bros in one of the four themes, Mario Maker is a spin off of Mario Bros, that's the conspiracy!
TetraBitGaming, the sound effect for the timer (when you have 100 seconds on it) cuts off part of the music THEN the rest of the music plays. This means that the start of the theme CAN be heard still.
5:02 for me I love the bug one. Make even hard to complete the game. So good for them not fixing or if they even knew about it. It would been so much much easier if they had fix it. Wonder why they never decided to fix it in later copy.

4:12 do y'think the bonus would've been related to the toads rescued (as per the manual stating that they were "turned into blocks" in some translations)?
Based off the quality of the video,I figured you had several hundred thousand subscribers at least. I'm amazed you only have 50,000. Keep it up. You'll go far
Hmm, seeing all the bonus rooms stored on a single area... I might have to borrow that idea. I'm making a Game Boy platformer that's kind of a mix between Mario and Mega Man. So this idea will come in handy. Assuming of course, I can figure out how to lock the screen so it doesn't scroll around.
What I find is a unique feature of very old games is that when they start running low on memory they kinda act like a random level generator except sometimes they do and don't follow the rules.
Marionaire was the one that created the Create Account, with a TAS that involves starting the game on a specific frame, stomping on a specific number of enemies, finishing each level on a specific framerule, and warping to the Minus World. In the Minus World, Mario must slow down at specific points in the level to manipulate his subpixel position and touch the 7 invisible platforms in the Minus World for exactly 1 frame. Then, after the last platform is pressed, the game glitches out and crashes, going back to the title screen. Then, you must mash the Konami code buttons in frame-perfect inputs and then you can create a Super Mario Bros. account. Creating an account allows you to connect with friends, sync your highscores, and perform speedruns without using a timer. After you create an account, you have to play World 0, dubbed as "Tutorial World" once before playing World 1, and after beating the game, you can go to freeplay mode and explore all 32 areas, and here's what you can find: A yellow flag with a Goomba on it to represent a Goomba the Quick race, similar to Super Mario 64's Koopa the Quick race in world 1-1 An emotionless sprite of a Goomba in world 1-2 A rainbow track above every Coin Heavens level similar to Mario Kart's Rainbow Road Monty Moles in world 4-1, 6-1, and C-1, possibly designed to jump at players at random times from the ground Pachyderm from Yoshi's Island following you with a stop sign, preventing you from going backwards. If you remove him using a TAS, you could go backwards. Bowser's Castle in world 8-4, includes Bowser's bedroom, dressing room, bathroom, kitchen, dining room, food court, an entertainment room with pool tables, table tennis, an arcade and casino, a bar and nightclub, a recreation room with a gym, bowling alley, spa, and indoor pool, a conservatory, a library, a movie theater, and when you look outside, you can find an outdoor waterpark with 2 swimming pools, a hot tub, 2 waterslides, an outdoor cinema, a wavepool, a Flowrider surf simulator, a kiddie splash zone, as well as a mini golf course, tennis courts, a basketball court, beach volleyball courts, a soccer field, a playground, and a flat area where the Koopalings can play around. There even is an underground lair filled with weapons, magic potions by Kamek, a Bro character club, also known as a fraternity, and everything Bowser has stolen from the Mushroom Kingdom, including money, jewelry, rare electronics, and priceless artifacts along with a garage with supercars like Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins, Bugattis, and even a hangar with private planes, all stolen by the Koopa Troop. There is also a secret mission for Mario to return every stolen item back to its rightful owners after beating the game, as after Bowser turned the Mushroom Kingdom residents into blocks, he decided to steal every valuable item they own and build his castle full of luxurious items. A flock of geese, Luigi holding balloons, a hot-air balloon, an island with a single mystery box and a cannon with coin rings in the sky, and a subway system, a room with a Toad, possibly Mario's underground house, a cave with Dorrie, and an underwater section underground. A door in World 4-2 right above the beanstalk, leading to the warp zone. Using Marionaire's TAS, it is theorized you can exit the Minus World and warp to World 8, skipping World 4 in speedruns, saving 10-20 seconds. Then, it is discovered you can warp to World 8-4, saving a lot of time, and you can even warp to the final stage of World 8-4 while in the Minus World, causing Super Mario Bros. to be beaten in 1 minute and 45 seconds. This speedrun strat is not used because Marionaire got terminated and the tricks are way too precise for a human to replicate. However, in the 2030's and 2040's, maybe, this trick could be used. This TAS was used in Super Mario Bros. 3 to access the code, it was used in Super Mario World to access the Pong, Snake, and Chess minigames, it was used in Super Mario 64 to access beta content, and it was used in several other games to access cool things, like a chat in a 16-bit offline game, but with different inputs. Each of these TASes have the capability to load the end credits right away, saving lots of time for speedrunners. However, most of these credit warps are way too swag for a human to replicate, except for the one in Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World.
You can also use the NES game Tennis to access glitch levels by inserting SMB, taking it out, replacing it with Tennis, running around, then swap back to SMB and hold A+Start
The unused game over sound sounds like it would’ve been in Super Mario Bros 2 If that was an ORIGINAL game and they didn’t just take Doki Doki Panic and put Mario characters on it!
Nintendo: Yoshi was never in an NES Mario game because the NES wasn't powerful enough to handle Mario riding on Yoshi. Mario World NES developers: Challenge Accepted
Yea. The only limit was space. Thats likely why they scrapped it. Mmc chips were not used yet so they were stuck with the little kb they had. Not because the nes wasnt powerful enough
@@kip258 true. Its funny they would even say that though. They literally made smb. What makes people think they couldnt make something as simple as yoshi in comparison
Mate, it’s more likely that Mario being able to enter the top of the pipe wasn’t a planned feature, and instead Nintendo just copied the code from a normal pipe and didn’t bother to remove the code on the top half of the L-pipe. It’s also possible that Nintendo literally just used a normal pipe and stuck a sideways one on the side when they made the L-pipes.
Also, the glitched worlds are different in the FDS version, and there even are Sega Genesis, SNES, Turbografx-16, PC10, GBA, and C64 ports for Super Mario Bros., with its own glitched worlds and music.
It is just a sprite with no function. If it has a function, then the lava must have the damaging properties and must be boiling and not just a retexture of water.
I mean technically the unused hurry up theme is use when you’re in a current hurry up theme in a different world and you go back to the overworld. So it not used and used at the same time basically because I heard in while I played the game
It's hard to imagine that games like the original Super Mario Brothers would have unused content on the game, especially since storage space was at a premium at that time.
6:41 what about the secret warp pipes? Did those do anything different, glitch out or anything. Or better yet, did you try the world -1 glitch after doing it? I'd try it but I don't know how to modify the game to remove barriers. Is there a debug mode? That would help.
the original concept for the game was that Bowser had turned the citizens of the Mushroom Kingdom into those breakable blocks and Princess Peach was the only one who could reverse the spell. So perhaps it was a counter of the number of innocent citizens Mario inadvertently killed as a result of breaking blocks.
During your underground area connected rooms test it looks like you didn't use the pipe load correctly the coordinates that are stored for where the pipe is supposed to take you don't load in until the pipe is fully on-screen some speedrunners use this to get to areas they're not supposed to or other people use this to get to world -1

Let us know how it's been going!

Fun Fact: The Unused Hurry Up Music Goes Used In The Gameboy Color Version
After you create an account, you have to play World 0, dubbed as "Tutorial World" once before playing World 1, and after beating the game, you can go to freeplay mode and explore all 32 areas, and here's what you can find:
A yellow flag with a Goomba on it to represent a Goomba the Quick race, similar to Super Mario 64's Koopa the Quick race in world 1-1
An emotionless sprite of a Goomba in world 1-2
A rainbow track above every Coin Heavens level similar to Mario Kart's Rainbow Road
Monty Moles in world 4-1, 6-1, and C-1, possibly designed to jump at players at random times from the ground
Pachyderm from Yoshi's Island following you with a stop sign, preventing you from going backwards.
I never actually played this when I was a kid. I loved Duck Hunt so much I never even tried to play it.
The unused game over sound sounds like it would’ve been in Super Mario Bros 2
If that was an ORIGINAL game and they didn’t just take Doki Doki Panic and put Mario characters on it!
@@ebs777 I know there were many reasons... Perhaps nintendo said this just to make the SNES sound more powerful by comparison. :p
@@kip258 true. Its funny they would even say that though. They literally made smb. What makes people think they couldnt make something as simple as yoshi in comparison
What's the name of the music at 2:56 ???
Ironic how marios not allowed to use guns, but he was gonna be an arms dealer.(?)
The "Hurry up!" theme plays when the clock hits 100
It's not the same
"BING BING WAHOO" That sounds like your like bing and Wahoo! too much. Or you turned into mario. OR BOTH! 0O0
WHAT IF super mario bros.2 the lost levels illuminati confirmed
The glitched levels were never intended, it’s pretty much the code of the tiles (the symbol before the “-1”) translated into levels
That's just what the video game market needed in the 80's, another shooter.
Also, the glitched worlds are different in the FDS version, and there even are Sega Genesis, SNES, Turbografx-16, PC10, GBA, and C64 ports for Super Mario Bros., with its own glitched worlds and music.
Sonic unleashed lost bits would be good
World -1 to -3 with 256: *exists*
Mario: *Man I need to stop eating those shrooms...*
7:40 can you actually swim in that water or is it just the sprite with no function attached to it?
I think no function
i know im so late but bruh you cant swim anywhere except underwater levels in the original smb
It is just a sprite with no function. If it has a function, then the lava must have the damaging properties and must be boiling and not just a retexture of water.
Unrelated to this
But it's really jarring watching SummoningSalt's warpless SMB video and then watching this gameplay footage
0:34 bruh the piranha plant is a hacker confirmed
2:55 How do you get all this from seven more notes in the hurry up theme?
1:13 nice Call of Duty RayGun lmfao
It's a me, Mario! Welcome to another episode of Lost Bits!
Monster Party would be pretty interesting choice to do an episode on. Great episode by the way!
+electricmastro I'll look into it! Thank you !
I definitely can't think of any other NES game that has more interesting cut content than this: tcrf.net/Proto:Monster_Party
2:50 this unused version can be hear In super Mario crossover 3 (the online computer game only)
5:12 super Mario bros the lost levels: *allow me to introduce myself*
I mean technically the unused hurry up theme is use when you’re in a current hurry up theme in a different world and you go back to the overworld. So it not used and used at the same time basically because I heard in while I played the game
It's hard to imagine that games like the original Super Mario Brothers would have unused content on the game, especially since storage space was at a premium at that time.
What if Tetra makes a lost content video about his dad “ So all we know is he has been lost for 15 years. He really is some lost content”
6:41 what about the secret warp pipes? Did those do anything different, glitch out or anything. Or better yet, did you try the world -1 glitch after doing it?
I'd try it but I don't know how to modify the game to remove barriers. Is there a debug mode? That would help.
The warp pipes just act like normal
the original concept for the game was that Bowser had turned the citizens of the Mushroom Kingdom into those breakable blocks and Princess Peach was the only one who could reverse the spell. So perhaps it was a counter of the number of innocent citizens Mario inadvertently killed as a result of breaking blocks.
5:55, this is possible in Super Mario Maker, but you possibly knew that.
During your underground area connected rooms test it looks like you didn't use the pipe load correctly the coordinates that are stored for where the pipe is supposed to take you don't load in until the pipe is fully on-screen some speedrunners use this to get to areas they're not supposed to or other people use this to get to world -1
Ur intro is.... causal and I like it
Hello it’s lost bits
