I'm working my way backward from when I discovered you about a month ago, and there's so much I can learn from you. Today the focus on the sketchbook is just what I needed! I've been afraid of it, afraid to make a mistake. But now I see that it is the very place for a "mistake" which is not a mistake at all, if that makes sense. Thank you for that. :)

I love your sketchbook tulips! So beautiful. And what a brilliant idea to do large swatches like that of your paints. I think I'm going to do this because it will be really helpful in choosing which paint colour I want! Just like paint swatches in the paint store. I keep saying that I love your process - it seems like you are "all over the place" like me - thriving on variety and play. I started two paintings this week that are a beginning, I think, of me really painting like me. I'm still a bit too tight, but I'm aware of it, and it's only the beginning. You covered quite a lot of topics in this video. Swatches, perspective, tulips. I was so happy to see the orange and yellow tulips. I needed that pop of spring color. I think the tulips would be a nice addition to your chair pictures.

A couple nights ago I did the swatches, I did a black line and tested each for transparency/opacity, mixed each with carbon black, grey and white. There are 16 so far and all I did was blue and red. It is so worth it because you really do not know the colors capabilities until you see it compared to the others. Your tulips on the table are beautiful! And the sketch book is also beautiful! It certainly is a PLAY & LEARN place. I used to go through mine and say ..ugh! I do not like this or this or this, until I realized it is not a place for MASTERPIECES (although they do appear!) it is a place to see WHAT WORKS and WHAT DO NOT. Now I go through and look for at least 1 thing on each page I like, it keeps my perspective going in the correct direction.🙂🖌️🎨Please say hello to Rocket for me, he is adorable.

I’ve been working on a chair painting. I got to a point where I thought I will just put it away and move on to something else. Then I changed the background and oh la la, I’m in love again. Even squeezed the paint tube right on the picture! You are rubbing off on me. I will ‘have a go’ on the swatches! Got some new paints with lots of colors. Hi Gaynor another great video to get me going on a Thursday. Love the Tulips and all your experimenting with them. Must treat myself to some tomorrow at the supermarket. I have woodies pencils as well and really love the creamy texture of them when working in mixed media. Glad you are enjoying working on your new indoor easel, a great investment. I do agree with you about using collage material from magazines giving a shiny effect, so when I use them I often put a layer of gesso or paint over it like you do in sketchbook with your glazing methods. So much fun to experiment. 😊🎨

I woke to heave clouds some overnight rain and 55 degrees (12C). It was so lovely I had to open up and air out the house. Then it was coffee and your video. You make my Thursday morning so enjoyable. I just love the idea of large swatches of my acrylics. I've started the process but I've broke mine up as a large square of it out of the tube but then around it I've added tint, tone and shade. It will take me a while but I'm loving it. I also watched another artist that talked about changing the values using other than white. He lightens and brightens an orange with yellow and I loved it! I think a new sketchbook that will become nothing but color studies is in my very near future! 😉 Then you added to the enticement of yellow by glazing with it. I just want you to know how much I appreciate the content you put out - you are really helping me with my art even though my style (if I have one) is nothing like yours. The Chair artwork is truely outstanding Gaynor it is a beautiful piece of artwork the colours and shapes are superb and the characteristics of the chair. My parents have those type of chairs in their home I love the sitting areas are spacious on them. I have the latest Homes and Garden magazine at home amd they have such beautiful inspiring firnitures in them . I love how you call your sketchbook "Sketchbook' That is sooooo sweet. Lovely video again. It’s inspiration on a plate. I am enjoying a burst of colour now and then either in bed or out on the table before my sister shoos me back. My new St Petersburg paints arrived and I had fun painting test swatches. My Posca pens come tomorrow 😂. (I wonder who influenced me) So now in my Gaynor inspired sketch book I have a front page with the date, a page of green basket chair (very very very tight- done in bed) a page of blue monochrome pen design, and a page of deeply red pink and white flowers. Frustrated it’s going slowly but can’t wait to do more with an arty friend who is visiting tomorrow. Thanks for the encouragement.

MayB cut 1-1 1/2 in stripes of the color swatches and make an extra large color wheel for ur wall .. Now I have few dozen cutouts of a variety of chairs from magazines... put all in scrapbooks purchased @ the thrift stores. Enjoy seeing ur range of references that R a must to continue with fresh excitement 😊... have 2 large corkboards...with ideas for abstractish stuff..😅. Hello Joy, I think you need the thickest paper you can find in a sketchbook. I use quite a bit of paint and mixed media but not a lot of water. The paper in my sketchbook is around 100gsm so not that thick. I hope you find something XX

Do you watch Louise Fletcher. She is amazing, like you, and she was doing an abstract collage book with odd scraps of paper and I thought of you and your books and how amazing wall paper scraps, scraps of all sorts of paper ( not glossy) scraps of your paintings etc would look in your sketch books.... another avenue of creative extension on to what you already do..... I will drive you mad with this suggestion. 😅😢
But…….I started an Instagram catalogue along side my own original Instagram account. However….instagram insists on plonking the pictures on my original account. I’m going to get one of my children to help me with this…. Also….it started adding my cookery ones to my art catalogue!! What a mess I’m in!!

Instead of wallpapering a room, I could just ink up a largish piece of textured wallpaper and print that all over the wall instead! 😂 I'm on Instagram Gaynor but receive little engagement on there. My Posca pens come tomorrow 😂. (I wonder who influenced me)
So now in my Gaynor inspired sketch book I have a front page with the date, a page of green basket chair (very very very tight- done in bed) a page of blue monochrome pen design, and a page of deeply red pink and white flowers.
Frustrated it’s going slowly but can’t wait to do more with an arty friend who is visiting tomorrow.

MayB cut 1-1 1/2 in stripes of the color swatches and make an extra large color wheel for ur wall .. Now I have few dozen cutouts of a variety of chairs from magazines... put all in scrapbooks purchased @ the thrift stores. Enjoy seeing ur range of references that R a must to continue with fresh excitement 😊... have 2 large corkboards...with ideas for abstractish stuff..😅.

Another great video❤ i’d like to know which sketchbooks you’re using because my sketchbook pages are not holding up with any water and paint? I do have watercolor sketchbooks, but not in the large format. And I love that new Paining with the blue and orange I think you should leave it.
Hello Joy, I think you need the thickest paper you can find in a sketchbook. I use quite a bit of paint and mixed media but not a lot of water. The paper in my sketchbook is around 100gsm so not that thick. I hope you find something XX

book with odd scraps of paper and I thought of you and your books and how amazing wall paper scraps, scraps of all sorts of paper ( not glossy) scraps of your paintings etc would look in your sketch books.... another avenue of creative extension on to what you already do..... I will drive you mad with this suggestion. 😅😢

If I use magazine pages I always sand them because it distresses them so you can’t see they are from a magazine 😁

But…….I started an Instagram catalogue along side my own original Instagram account. However….instagram insists on plonking the pictures on my original account. I’m going to get one of my children to help me with this…. Also….it started adding my cookery ones to my art catalogue!! What a mess I’m in!!

You have given me an idea Gaynor. Instead of wallpapering a room, I could just ink up a largish piece of textured wallpaper and print that all over the wall instead! 😂 I'm on Instagram Gaynor but receive little engagement on there. I agree it is a good place to have a record of work though. I would love you to see what I have been doing sometime. I hope you have a lovely February with lots of spring flower inspirations! X
