Hello Lesley-Anne 😊Two great questions...there are ingredients in acrylic paint that can be harmful (large amounts) some people can have a skin reaction, the best obvious advice is to wash hands or wear gloves. My poor kitchen table !!!!! I use thin card (from packaging) and spare paper but from time to time paint seeps through....Craig gives it a gentle scour (with the grain) once a year and re-waxes !!!! 🥰

Love all that you do!! Could you please tell us how you framed the "Chair" painting? Did you attach it to a backing? and is that glass on the frame? I love painting on gessoed paper but sometimes it is wavy and does not sit flat in the frame. Thanks for all your efforts with creating and videoing. My favorites are the sink and the chair!!

Hello Victoria, I am trying non-glass that still gives UV protection and am amazed at how light it makes the frame ! I press paperwork before framing - If the paperwork is too small for the frame I will use backing and use extra backing to ensure a snug fit. Thank you for watching and leaving a lovely compliment 🥰

I would like to know how your painting on paper is treated when it is finish. Are they pasted on a canvas or glued to on an other support?

First, check to see if your acrylic paints are non-toxic. Most brands are.

This is probably a question for last weeks video, but what do you do with all of your sketchbooks when you are done with them? I wondered if you used bits and pieces from them to create a bigger masterpieces. 🤔
Do you use modge podge? Or Rubber cement? Because I'm not sure why that college was coming up? Maybe you said and maybe I missed it?
Looking forward to another Thursday ❤🎨🎉

Gaynor, if you want to put your hands in the paint do so. it is not for others to tell you what to do or for you to have to set some sort of example for others. Do what you want, it's your podcast after all. 😊

Ok I also put my hands in the paint. I really don’t care how good it is for me I’m aware of the dangers, I’m also aware of the dangers when I get in the car to go to town to get the paint. 🤫

I love your intuitive mark making and the bold strokes you add to your art. I would be interested to know about the addition of gloss to finish a painting. Looking forward to next week. I am reading the biography of Vermeer.

My view on the gloves issue is that artists safety is about much more than wearing gloves. Solvents, powders, moulds and mediums have their distinct problems.
Paints made in Europe and the US have to abide by safety legislation but it isn’t comprehensive and they don’t draw the same conclusions.
Gradually paints containing dangerous elements like cadmium, cobalt, lead and others are being withdrawn or alternatives are available. Check labels.
Finger tip gloves are available if regular gloves are not suitable.
Here are my practises and why.
My hands get sore easily so I protect them.
I once had a bad reaction to old fibre tip pens I was using with pearlescent acrylic ink, acetone, turps and typists correction fluid.
I developed a short term chest problem after using textile dyes in a confined space.
    So
I usually wear gloves if I am going to get covered or especially when using dyes.
I wear a suitable mask when using powdered items. Powder is lung damaging.
I wear a mask if using solvents used with oil paint. Solvents damage lungs when inhaled and skin when touched.
The right mask is needed whether for powder or solvent.
    I never use turps
Rightly or wrongly I have always considered uk water based paint without a warning label to be pretty safe.
I read labels and don’t buy budget paint unless from a known range. A friend had lead poisoning from eyeshadow she bought at a street market. Buyer beware.
    Hope this helps

Here’s a snippet of what I found on the internet about toxicity of acrylic paints…”The acrylic colors that contain toxic chemicals will have it marked on the label-these include cadmium, cobalt, manganese, chromium, and lead. “. The clue is in the name….
So check your paint tube labels…….mostly, it seems they are just fine. I hate painting in gloves…..!!!

Gaynor, sending you a big sigh (if you know what I mean) I appreciate that having paint on your hands could be a hazard but I’ve tried working with gloves on and don’t find it at all feasible, you lose your sense of feel and as art is a sensory process that must limit ability and my hands sweat terribly, especially on warmer days and impossibly on hot days, they actually prevent me be creative, how limiting to the art process is that! Could you not continue as you are but put a small disclaimer on the screen for those who are concerned, perhaps recommend people to refer to the details on the paints they use. The appeal of your channel is your spontaneity, if you change that because of a minority of comments it will change the feel of your videos. Hope this is helpful, it’s intended to be 😊
