Shame that you can’t get the cabin really warm, I shudder when I think of you working in the cold, that’s dedication. Blue Lagoon work is so lovely as is all of your work Gaynor.
I watch every week and always come away inspired, motivated, ready! I watched through many of the videos again recently and just loved them- taken together the channel seemed exactly like one of your beautiful concertina sketchbooks, Gaynor 😊 This summer I came across Shinhan Pass watercolour-gouache hybrids and found them quite pigmented. Daniel Smith watercolours ditto. Thank you for the reminder and encouragement to play, Gaynor 😊
Hello Donna, I couldn't hope for nicer feedback, Thank You ❤ My friend adores Daniel Smith but I haven't heard of Shinhan Pass, so will have a look at them, thank you. Have a wonderful week 🥰
@@gaynorpattle thanks, Gaynor. I get the shinhan pass from Jackson’s - the Van Dyke brown is like chocolate fudge on the paper! They’re often sold out, very popular with illustrators and not too pricey. Best wishes from Durham x
For opacity and colour, gouache is definitely the way to go! Cheaper gouaches can leave an odd texture behind and can be less opaque though - I really like the Winsor and Newton brand of gouache, but I've heard good things about Holbein and Daniel Smith too.
Love your art! Love your videos! Which I look forward to every Thursday here in Arizona? You are a lovely person. I feel like I have been with you on all your trips. Thanks for letting me tag along! ❤
You DO work all over the place which is amazing to me as I get so fixated on one thing and don’t get half as much done as you do. Reminder to self to try and Gaynorize my process😂 Love the blue lagoon series and can’t wait to see the brown, ochre and black ones come to a finish. Thanks for sharing all your experimentation with us!
Fun, inspiring and energetic as always 😍Thank you Gaynor. Love the 3 nearly finished pieces earlier on in the vid, the middle one (finished) with the darker values. I see a brown rose taking centre stage, it is beautiful. 😍 Have a fabulous week 🙏🏻🤗🙏🏻
11pm in New Zealand I love Thursday night you make my week when your post comes out.. I love your work and have just found the channel that has the 58videos. So fun watching and learning. Thanks
Tried the large paper abstract, then cut into several 5 x7’s and two 6x6 and one 8x10. Love them and will be framing them shortly, thank you thank you thank you to you and one of your subs for the suggestion!!!! Great exercise and superb results. Carry on Gaynor.
You are adorable, terrific, infectious, entertaining, and lovely amount a hundred other things to watch! To say I enjoy your videos is an understatement! I want to be just like you when I grow up!🤣🤣
Stunning smalls! 😊 love watching how your ideas come to life. I remember your Christmas cards from last year are you planning any for this year ? Have a great week too !
Oh you always make me want to create! Loved this. Always look forward to Thursday! Love the littles and Blue Lagoon is a perfect name for the series 💙 Much love and happy creating, from Roxanne in Atlanta 👋🏻
That lunch looked delicious Gaynor! - I would paint it! Seriously though, my mushroom stir fry looked so interesting that I took a photo of it and drew an abstract of it! I can easily get inspired by food. I loved to see your excitement of the reactivated gouache! The blue lagoon smalls are a lovely collection of art works. Have a lovely week! x
Hello Simone, I think about food a lot but hadn't thought to paint it 😊 Glad you like the Blue Lagoon series, that little collection makes me very happy - have a great week too 🥰
Lunch looks delish!!! Thank you so much for your video-what a treat. I noticed you mostly sell originals, have I got that right? But the boat painting you made with the fine line and wash would make a beautiful print. Have a great week. 😊
Great video Gaynor... loads of inspiration and encouragement to experiment and have fun and then to hone pieces that don't quite make your heart sing... and then they do! 😊
You have so much fun with your materials and subjects.! I get too hung up on making a masterpiece (they never are lol) I need to just play more. Do you sell your art online? Did you go to art school? Hope you don’t mind the questions thanks for another great video 👏👏
Hello Helen, My hope for 2024 is to start a website in order that I can sell online. I took lots of evening classes before I got the chance to take a part-time Fine Art Degree. I have enjoyed online courses, there is so much still to discover !! Thank you for watching XX
I love gouache for its matte finish....alas, it's quite pricey here in Canada (compared to acrylic) and sometimes difficult to find in a variety of colour (of course, I *should* just mix my own from a primary set but.....🙃)..there's also the fact that I love to work BIG so I have to go with the more cost effective acrylics. Have you found acrylic gouache yet? It's nice in that it doesn't reactivate once it's dry so you can layer on top, but you get the delights of the opaque matte finish. Such happy things!! 😆. Stay warm and thank you for sharing your world!
Hello Magpie, I have heard about acrylic gouache but haven't used it.....more lovely things to look forward to ! Thank you for watching and taking time to comment. Have a wonderful week X
Hello Gaynor, another lovely video as usual. Love the blue lagoon smalls. Watching you ‘play’ is fascinating. Gouache is a lovely medium, and I too want to try the acrylic gouache. Like you say, something to look forward to. Do try Daniel Smith watercolours as they can be quite pigmented, plus playing with the granulating colours they have is a journey in itself. Santa needs to start saving up 😂😂😂. Thank you for the longer video, that was very much appreciated. Have a lovely week.💐
Your videos are always a treat and I always learn a lot each week but May I say that gouache is pronounced gouash. Again many thanks for taking the time to explain how you paint with such enthusiasm.
Fran says gorgeous jumper at 20:54 Another fab vlog Gaynor the 'smalls' look amazing - I'm still hoping for less speedy uppy moments... Thanks again x P.S. put a thick curtain across to keep one area of the studio warm 😃
Ahh thank you Fran XX I think I go speedy when editing because I've already lived the moment !! If that makes sense - I WILL try to slow up. What a great curtain idea, thank you XX
My husband builds the frames, he will not want to be on camera but I'll ask nicely if he can photograph the stages - not promising !! Have a wonderful week 🥰
So much fun. That 9 piece Blue Lagoon is fabulous 😍 As I was reading the comment section, I too bought some gouche for the first time. Its always so inspirational to see what you and your audience is up to. I'm still very much in sketchbook world due to uncontrollable constraints, but I was challeneged by another artist to go bigger. The thought overwhelmed me, but its in my head to do, just a matter of timing. What is the biggest piece you've created?
Hello Stefanie, firstly Thank You for such a lovely compliment 😊Secondly, Yes, when the time is right, you will go big ! And thirdly, I have a 5ft x 3ft painting and two really old university pieces approx 4ft x 3ft. I have to bear in mind what I can transport !!!
Thanks this was very interesting. I could be wrong but my understanding is that in the US there is traditional gouache, which is more like watercolor and can be reactivated. And there is acrylic gouache which is permanent and won't come up when layered with other mediums. Which kind are you using? When you were done it looked more acrylic, but then maybe you used some acrylic paint too. 😃Always love to see you experiment!
Gaynor ,I've already moved myself to the end of the dining table - I told my family it's just for this one project but, who knows (it's quite cold in my box room...)
Love the Blue Lagoon series. Also I’m in the USA and want to purchase your paintings. Are they available to me n the USA$ would gladly pay the shipping.
Hello Suzanne, Thank you for watching and your kind comment. I have sent twice to the USA and shipping was £30.00. Clients let me know which painting they wanted from the web shop and I marked as sold. As I allow free shipping in the UK, I am happy to absorb the exchange fee charged by paying with PayPal. One box took 2 weeks and the other about 10 days ! Many thanks for your interest X
❤❤Blue Lagoon❤❤ I also love the trio at the start of the video. Do you sell any of your work/cards online Gaynor? Thank you for another brilliant video x 😊

But what a fantastic tool just sitting there waiting on my Mac laptop ! I watched hours of 'how to' videos and just gave it my best shot. If you don't have Mac, there is a lot of software out there, I'd say keep it simple to start with. XX
