Hello Gaynor, I want to thank you properly for the joy and enthusiasm you bring to all of us...for art and for life! It is a weekly reminder that it is truly the simple things that bring so much richness and interest to our lives. The little things really are the big things! The terracotta pots are one of my favorites. -your friend across the pond, S.❤
Hello Sam, you are absolutely right....the little things are the big things...I need to write that large !!! or print it on a T shirt. Thank you for lovely words of encouragement each week XX
No "aha"s in the last week! Just a lot of rest. Hoping to get back to it this week, though I may have to find an option for working that doesn't put me on my feet - recovering from an osteoarthritis flare. Still, I'm not going to let this stop me for long.
What I enjoy about watching you Gaynor is that you push an idea further and further. The repetition of the geranium painting produced lots of interesting ideas for you. I am so pleased that you discovered the delights of contouring with a paintbrush! There are no right or wrong ways to start a painting are there? Have a great week - after watching you, I am now psyched up to do a bit of painting. X
You are a wonderful teacher Gaynor, just by doing. You give me energy and inspiration and courage to make marks and have a go. I’m often pleasantly surprised by what appears in front of me on paper or canvas. Many thanks for your bright cheerful and fun weekly videos.
And there it was, the pot of geraniums I’ve been working on this past week. How did you know? Your idea of taking mono prints and pressing them back into the painting is just what I needed as mine looked too blobby. Thank you once again for such great inspiration, we never leave your videos without lots to think about. Edit. By the way, the real leaves are lovely to use for printing. I spread paint in a bit of thin sponge, press the leaf in and then press on the paper
Wonderful watching you free flow with a paint brush and you were really feeling it. It was an aha moment because you don't usually approach your paintings that way. You will never forget how geraniums (not even in flower) set you on a new course. Loving the joy you bring to art every week. Thanks, Jo😊
Haha! I too, have the two color shapers still in the packaging! I've been procrastinating to open them, but now, after watching you have fun with them, I will break them out of the packaging! Thanks, Gaynor!😉
Ooo good morning Gaynor, just having my morning coffee, and there you are, a treat with my breakfast. I know I'm going to enjoy your video ........Alioban ❤ ps potted up my geraniums yesterday 😊
You are the most explorative painter out there, Gaynor. I always feel enthused by what you share. I have not invested in colour shapers, thinking 'oh, this old spatula will do fine and the credit card works well'. Seeing you use them and saying that they clean up well, has me sold - I need these. Loving the faithful old geraniums. I'm remembering the cyclamen? you painted which felt overwhelming. They are a tribal plan, all crowded in a mob, no room to breath. Faithful geraniums seem to love living on paper/canvas. Your style showed them in a modern take on something old and comfortable. Thanks again for a lovely visit.
Comment #2 I had an AHA moment thinking of all your videos and how you start with a drawing. I always dread the drawing start of a painting because my drawing is so bad and much practice is avoided but needed. However, you make the drawing start quick, loose and free and what are you actually doing you are honing your drawing skill everyday. So, I’m on a mission now to improve my drawing by doing what you do everyday. THANK YOU!
Hello Gaynor..wonderful Geraniums! My favourite summer plant, they take care of themselves apart from a little dead heading! They remind me of Greece, where you see them growing out of every vessel imaginable from painted olive oil cans to lovely terracotta urns!❤My Sister, before she passed away used to paint Geraniums,so it’s lovely to see you painting them! You really have a lovely style and capturing them wonderfully and even though it’s early stages yet..I know your end result will be perfect!!Will you be adding flowers,I wonder? The ivy leafed geraniums look lovely in hanging baskets or trailing down walls..would be lovely to see where you display yours! Thanks so much for sharing and have a fab week!❤
Hello Beverly, I hoping a bit of nurturing now means they will look after themselves later !!! We have a trailing variety and I'll take a picture when they get going ..... when it warms up a bit !!! Have a great week XX
Those paint Shapers are a blast to paint 🖌️with. And of course cutting up (or cropping) my art is always so satisfying 😅 Thanks Gaynor for another art filled video ✨✌️
I look at your studio and I think, what a beautiful abstract painting. The colors, shapes, textures and white negative spaces are just so lovely. "Get yourself a side line" is a great quote and very good advice. Your clay jars are a good example and show how valuable it is to have a subject to jump to when creativity is flowing. Love the geraniums even without blooms❤
Good morning. I really like playing with my silicone scrapers and actually like them better than the credit card. I’ve found I use the 3” and 1 1/2” the most. I like the lines I can “cut” in through thick paint, so do give a try only using the thin edge or the corner. I like the geraniums and look forward to you exploring and experimenting more. I must say there are many descriptive words we could use for your art but boring would never be one of them! We all enjoy anything you share. 😁 Wishing you a happy week. TFS
I really loved watching you and being there for your 'aha' moment in real life, but I got a really good kick watching it online too 😍 Thank you, as ever, for the lovely, interdisciplinary advice about creativity. Look forward to seeing develops in the studio next week. 💚
One viewer wrote that they love your taking a subject and experimenting with it in so many ways-thoroughly agree you delight us with those journeys. You are such an inspiration! The geraniums you drew with paint showed us the power of your observation. You found the glooby leaves and those delicate curly edges so quickly and it just screams, “ I am a geranium!” The taking off with paper and printing on with paint on a paper captured the terra cotta texture so beautifully! “What fun,” you said so often throughout this video and that is sometimes what we start missing with our paintings when we get so serious, thinking every painting has to be a masterpiece! One of the many little ‘joys’ you painted could turn out to be a masterpiece❤️
Hello Sherrie, Always lovely to read your kind comments. There is so much in life to be serious about, painting is my absolute joy ! Have a wonderful week XX
Hello Gaynor. I loved the terracotta pots you painted, as much as the actual geraniums themselves. I look forward to seeing how they develop. Note to self, get my silicon colour shapers out and use them. Like you I have hardly touched them since I bought them. You were obviously impressed. Have a lovely week. 💐
I love your work, your enthusiasm is so infectious I want to go to my garden art room and paint. I love how you float from subject to subject whether it's making scones, walking the dog or planting up plants you are a joy to watch!
❤ from Arizona 🎨🎉 Another great session, thank you. 🙏🏼 Definitely a go to place environment when the world is misbehaving 😂 Thanks again for your diplomacy in art creation. 💖
Well, that was fun! I could watch you on Thursday mornings for an hour (hint, hint!). It's the first thing I do once I've poured my coffee. I recently got that same set of silicone spreaders and find them a really fun tool. And so easy to clean! Thanks, Gaynor. Have a great week. Paula
Great video Gaynor. I love 'going for it' with paint straight away... sometimes as a quick underpainting to place things, then splash/scrape/print it on!! Doing a big garden tub of tulips at the moment 😅
Hi Gaynor, loved seeing the trailing geranium paintings! Your creative spirit and flow are contagious and so inspirational. Have a great weekend and week ahead.
I love colour shapers. Try a sort of dry brush, when you're pulling it and nearly out of paint, it starts to drag and you can get a kind of draggy bubble effect.
I love the way you crack yourself up! I got some posta pens for my birthday so I will experiment with those, but now I want to draw with paint. Thanks for your aha moment!
OH my favorite Summer flower. I can't wait to pot some up but here in Ohio we just had a freeze & frost warning last night. I spotted some of the silicone brushes at Hobby Lobby a few weeks ago & on my next trip I intend to pick them up. Great idea of cropping up the daylilly painting. What a great frame for the vessels. See you next week!!!!
