    Those ladders are primarily for when people fall in the water. They need some way to get up. People don't really swim in those canals.

    I just paused at the universeum part and had a flashback. I've been there so much. With my school and with my family. Remembered many memories from that place. I can still remember where everything is in details. It's like a tradition for me and my mom to go there every summer. Sadly we couldn't go there last year due to covid-19. But hopefully we can this year! Gothenburg is really pretty and I'm so happy I live here. And especially that there is this huge forest with mountains and amazing view right beside where I live. When you stand on one of the mountains and look over the area it just looks like were trapped by forests. Like where this small introverted place no one knows. I really love nature! It's super amazing where I live!

    Fun Facts!
    1. Skansen Kronan, the fortress has a "sister" Fortress viewable from the top. They hade the same "calling for aid" system as in lord of the rings with lighting fires.
    2. The canal is quite old and the stairs on the sides where for boats docking with deliveries. The Houses closest to the water usually hade basements for storage below the front door, you can see them still on some buildings.
    3. The statue of Poseidon (with the dishsoap in it) used to have quite a large male member... but being back in the old days with recidential areas really close some ladies got quite offended by view while drinkin their morning coffee so the statue was modified.
    Let me know if you ever return to Gothenburg and thank you for this beautiful perspective of my hometown :)

  • @xianze

    Göteborgians seems like a accurate translation of the Göteborgare. And offcourse we love the sun, it's because it makes us forget about the "from-the-side-rain" and the periods when the sun isn't anywhere to be found at all (like november-december). When it comes back to the sky it's compulsory to sun-bath with closed eyes while waiting for the tram.

    Hi Natasha!
    Loved your video portraits of Gothenburg. I live more in the middle of south Sweden in a small town called Alvesta. (210km south east)
    I just wanted to clarify why we Swedes love the sun so much. That's easy. We don't get so much sun during wintertime.
    The days are really short and if it is like the last couple of years we also have to deal with a thick clouded sky that lasts for month...
    Everything is just grey and wet. So when the sun comes out we blossom!!!
    Sunrise were I live is around 08.30 and sunset starts around 15.20.
    Start November 2019 up until the 28th we had were I live 3 hours of sun. 27 days with no sunlight!!!
    This year we've had alot more sun in November... around 25 hours!!!! Almost 1 hour a day WEEEHOOO!!!
    And just maby a couple of hours during December so far....
    So when the sun comes out YEAH... we #%¤&*~ PARTY!
    Be safe

    What's with the title of this video? All forests that we have in the whole of the northern hemisphere are rainforests. They're called "temperate rainforests" and are just as important to the climate as the tropical rainforests. And HEAVEN'S no! I live in Gothenburg and I wouldn't even think about taking a dip in the channel or river around the city. xD Those ladders are there to help people getting up again if they happened to fall down. In the olden times these bodies of water was used as a trading route between solid ground and the neighbouring island Hisiningen before there were bridges connecting them. I actually grew up on Hisingen. :)

    • @MrBern91
      @MrBern91 3 года назад

      @@NatashaBergen Left some details out of that story, during the time when these trading routes I referred to existed, Gothenburg wasn't technically a city yet, more like a larger settlement or a town. It was actually quite recent they discovered some shipwrecks down under an area called "Packhusplatsen" when they unearthed some space for the so called "Västlänken". But they seem to think they were from the early 17th centuary or so, a few decades before the city of Gothenburg was founded. :) Oh, and Hisingen is more of a city in itself, much larger than Brännö which you were at in the video, and those islands around.

You should also visit Älvsborgs fästning(Old fortress that never been breached), Kungälv Fästning(Old castle that also never been breached), There is also in middle of the city a king house(Kronhuset), not really a castle but one king died, borned and was crowned king there. The have a nice beer place there with like 800 different beers just around the corner if you like haha, Behind Universium you probably saw a big amusement park, that park you should definitivt go to. Slottskogen, (Huge park, very close to Haga) very beautiful in the summer and a lot to see there. We have some unique restaurant and coffeshop also for ex Pute madre (Weird name for restaurant but with a werd design) And much more. Outside Gothenburg, you should definitivt go to Grenna, is a small village only 3hours with bus from Gothenburg. 1 stop in Jönköping(also nice place). They have like 3 castle there in Grenna and first King Castle in Sweden called Nääs Slott, on the island of Visingsö(Only 15 min with boat from Grenna), that one is not much to see but the other 2 castles, But that is not all, Grenna is famous world wide for a speciell candy that you can see, in all american christmas movies, the red and white candy that they hang in the tree. They make that sugerbased candy everywhere there. Some shops you can try out for youself how to do it. Ales stenar, is like stoneheng but in south of Sweden, Stockholm has many nice things to see aswell. The Ice hotell, Nordic light, Birka(Old Viking village), Hällristningsområdet i Tannum (Viking drawings), Visby on the island of Gotland, you live through the middle age haha), We have alot of beautiful castles everywhere if you like those kind of things. If you are going to check out Sweden, Norway and Finland, you need to go by car or rather motorcycle.
    Seeing cities says more about "current year", than the culture. Modern big cities are not represenative of any nation.
    Norway has fjords, mountains and medieval Stavkirke - and oddly placed family houses in the middle of nowhere. Sweden has many kinds of climat zones for such small country and historical sites from neolithic times through bronze age. And more current history such as iron age, medieval and the later Christian dominated history. Finland was a part of Sweden until 1809, but with a more masculine twist ;) Finland has vast forests, long gravel loads and the menacing Russian border. It's also known for it's "1000 lakes", though that is of course an understatement. They are trying to hi-jack santa from Sweden - but I guess that's OK. The Finns may have a "bad tournament" and loose against all the other teams including Germany and Switzerland - but when Sweden is the opponent, all bets are off. Doesn't matter what form the Swedish team is in, Finland is never easy. Which Stalin got taught a lesson about in the Finnish winter war of 1939. Not a die hard hockey fan; it's a part of our modern culture. It beats war for bragging rights (most popular sports are most often ritualized war).
      I didn't catch you are Canadian, eh? This is the first video I see with you. I was intrigued about rain forest and a cute girl so I watched. Gothenburg is the rain capital of

      @@NatashaBergen Quick tip, when someone’s doing a video of Sweden then there’s gonna be a lot of Swedish wives. I don’t really know why but I guess it’s because we like to know how people from different countries see us. Or maybe it’s just nostalgia??

      @@M4-Variant If you ride the bus that often it's way cheaper to just get a monthly/yearly pass but yes i agree, their prices have become ridiculous lately.. I remember paying 8kr for a ticket as a kid and im not THAT old that inflation have had time to turn 8kr into 34kr. Personally i think it's wrong not to pay for a service you use but on the other hand there's people out there that simply can't afford it yet depends on the service to get by. If you're fine with throwing ethics out the window in this particular case may i suggest planka.nu? You pay them like 100kr/month and if you ever get a fine you just send it to them and they'll pay it for you. It's basically insurrance, if you get fines more often than every 15 months it's worth it. Got some friends who swears that it's the best thing since sliced bread..

    There are better places in Sweden to visit than the big cities cause they look the same all over the globe with houses and streets people and cars and though it does rain in götet there is no rainforest in the whole of sweden at all but maybe in some botanic garden.

    • @NatashaBergen
      @NatashaBergen  3 года назад

      Very true! I'd agree although sometimes the big cities are the easiest to get to right 😂 I know the rainforest was caged in but it really warmed me - quite literally and reminded me of good times in earlier days! Any suggestions for places next time I visit? 😏

      @@NatashaBergen Anywhere outside and away from the cities pretty much. And they got a similar better greenhouse close to Gothenburg but in Copenhagen Denmark and also two better amusement parks Tivoli and Bakken compared to Liseberg. We do have a wonderful evening light here in Sweden though that works super good for video and or photography. That is when the weather let it happen of course. I do not want to steal attention here but even I caught it once lol
