I am in my 12th year of retirement with no wife, no kids and I do anything I want, for as long as I want any time day or night. Favorites are gourmet cooking, camping, kayaking and woodworking. Life is good but I paid my dues. Get out there and have fun!!!!
People only knock nomadic living because they can't do it themselves. They are too scared or weak to go against what the government has taught their family freedom is. That and/or they have too many attachments to the material world and their ego.
My Husband and I seasonal camp. We know probably 50 other campers that do it all year. Live in their campers. Some summer camp here in Michigan and winter camp down south. Some are retired, some have jobs that require travel and they take the entire family with them. Some, like us, go home for the winter. Some sadly could not afford to have a home plus pay for medical needs. Even know some cancer patients that have outlived their life expectancy and they directly attribute it to lack of stress they have in their lives now. Hold on to the Dream Kevin! It’s a good one!
Used to own an oil change business and so I can say with confidence that the E350 was a solid choice, they run forever. I'm glad to hear you mention Chad, that's how I came to your channel. Like the way you edit your videos with the dogs and nature shots. Looking forward to seeing more.
The fact that you figured out how to make a living doing this is super impressive. The rest of us envy you, I can assure you. Great job. Keep up the good work.
Steve Urban No. The rest of us don’t envy this guy. Sitting on your dead ass down by the crik doesn’t appeal to me. Like the van though. Have one similar. Though it’s an extended bed version.
Hey man ! Greetings from the Missouri Ozarks !!! Your camping strategy is very similar to mine. I recently purchased a 1997, 15 passenger Ford van. I took out the bench seats and made it my camping rig. I build my camping experience around campfire cooking, fly fishing for trout, and just relaxing. At 67 years young, the best activity is the one with the least amount of work. (LOL). I follow You, Coyote Works, and Chad (Living the Van Life). All three of you guys embody my camping philosophy. Keep it up brother and thanks for letting me be a part of your adventures !
Congrats!! I'm from the age group where we glued shag carpeting on the ceilings and walls, and the bumper sticker " don't come a knocking-----" you will get great use from the van!
I am a year behind you. I had a brand new 1974 GMC Vandura.......my shaggin' wagon. Shag carpet and wood paneling, 8 track stereo and cb radio. I put 150,000 miles on that van, over an 11 year period. Was my favorite vehicle.
I loved that you ate right from the skottel! Welcome to van life! We have a 2014 Chevy Express AWD. We love the solar panels on the roof. I would recommend that addition to you.
Spoke to me on so many levels (pups, philosophy, humor, approach, how-to's, appreciation of nature) & the videography is beyond stunning. Loved the van's name & its plans. Beyond happy to have 'landed' on this amazing video/channel & your website. As a dog-lover, tugged at my heart when you lowered your pups from the van to ground & also have coffee named after them. No matter their age, they are always pups at heart.. .just a bit wiser. Thanks for sharing your journeys and for continued inspiration. Can't wait to get the heck out of TX and land up there! LOL
Well yeah he doesn't pay any attention to them at all never even mention them which is odd to me and you can actually tell they're not enjoying this very much. He spends too much time on himself.
You do not see them through out the whole video! Where are the dogs? Who are they? Whats are their names? How did they do through the night? Ppl want to know this stuff!!
I'm new at your Channel, really looking forward to your adventures with your two beautiful dogs be safe and enjoy what you're doing I'm 73 years old and I'm living my life again through watching you camp thank you so much my friend
I love seeing the old pups. I wish I would have traveled and camped more with my last buddy. When I got my current dog I said I would not let this opportunity pass. He loves to hike, travel and camp. We’ve been to Colorado twice. We are headed to Moab in 10 days. Banff is on the list. Sedona. I want to take as many trips as I can take from Dallas since we are 12-25 hours from everywhere I want to go. We drive the Jeep and then sleep in the Jeep. We have a blast. I really miss my old buddy, but I love making memories with my new one. Love the videos.
Yes, I had a van when I was 19 years old, I would camp and fish by the river many times, but showing up at my girlfriend parents house with it, well let's say she never got to ride in it..memories.
I've had vans 20 + years ago, thanks to you i'm looking for one now! Single, retired three years and was lost until now! See you in camp someday! Thanks for your inspiration....
Jason, thanks for another great video with the introduction of “the van”. One of the things I like about your channel is that when you find a piece of gear you like, you continue to use it in an everyday function. We’re excited in watching you build the van to your needs and not what other want. Lastly, your meals are beautiful and fun to watch. We’re all wanting to pull up a chair and grab a plate to join you, and a glass of Pendleton. Lastly, to take your breakfast of biscuits with sausage gravy to the next step, try scrambled eggs. All our best, Skillet
Definite yes on the van! The Ford E350 is a great size to live in even sans the trailer. I have my eye on an older Uhaul van, not sure what the model number is. It's one of those that has the metal mesh grate behind the front seats. A van allows you so many options for customizing to fit your needs and desires. The only van I've ever owned was a '78 Dodge custom van with the convertible sofa bed in the rear, ice box, sink, tiny clothes closet and captain's chairs that swiveled towards the rear where I set up a poker/dining table. I camped throughout the Southwest. Sasquatch is a good name for an E350. I'm anxious to follow your build on it. Well done, Jason!
Grats on the van always feels nice getting a new adventure toy, i kinda miss my splinter van but love my truck camper, i just bought a brand new 2020 Chevy Silverado 3500 HD dually to hold my camper when im going into the bush :)
I didn't know what to do with my van at first. Then I started to watch the van build vids. So cool. If anyone wants to try this they should just do it.
Always fun to watch your stuff! We’ve traveled, camped and hunted in vans for 38 years. Covered the west coast from the Klondike to San Diego. Best second vehicle on the planet. I’ve developed my own removable furnishings and find we can be quite comfortable. As we’ve gotten older, my wife needs a potty so I use it more for solo camping and we’ve purchased a small class c sprinter based rv. I will not be surprised if you find the trailer unnecessary. Happy “campvanning”.
I in joyed the show every much. I Think the van is gonna be perfect yes you need to turn it in to a 4 /4 you have to be a pretty good mechanic to turn that into a four-wheel-drive . but you don’t look like the type of guy that would give up. Nice trailer! I built my Desert Dawg about 10 years ago and have been camping in it every since. For those of us who love camping, teardrop trailers are a great way to be outdoors!
I think Living the van lifes vw is testament to how good rubber, a trick diff and a winch can go a long way to making 2wd work in tougher situations. Great move. All the best from North Wales uk!

One more thought. A go fund me to get a 7.3 diesel for the van. They are a million mile engine also, and a diesel heater will get you some good dry heat.😁

jeeze i really hate to be THAT guy....you know a mr. know it all, but the tire chain you showed the close up of, the chain was mounted with the wrong side out, i'm 71 y. o. and have lived in no. nv almost my whole life, so back in the olden days we would get lots of snow every winter, and i was always taught when mounting chains to BE SURE that the cross chains faced outward, so that the smooth part of the chain was against the tire sidewall and with the very end of the chain where they are hooked to the side chain faces outward. please correct me if i'm wrong.
Hello Jason, thank you for sharing this great video. It's good to see some snow on the ground. You know how to enjoy life. I'm sorry that I missed your dinner invitation. That stew must have been beyond tasty. All the best of good things for you. I Look forward to see you on the next one. Stay healthy. 🤗
Great name for the van. I've named my Jeep JL "Squatch" as in Sasquatch. Glad to hear you're gonna keep both the Ford and Van. Like you, I've always wanted a Sportsmobile but, who's got 70 - 80 thousand dollars? Your videos are excellent and I find myself looking forward for each new one every week but, I was attracted to your RUclips channel mostly because of photography. You seem to have strayed away from photography and lean more toward the camping/overlanding aspects. Nothing wrong with camping/overlanding (I'm gearing up for overlanding here in the outback of Nevada) but I liked your photography and hope you get more of it in the future. Thanks.
@Terry Long...you haven't checked the prices for a (new) Sportsmobile lately...they run way over $100K...which is crazy but, they have a waiting list over a year long so they must know what they are doing.
LIKE THAT OREGON PLATE. MY WIFE AND I HAVE A COUPLE SUBURBANS [ NOT STOCK ] THAT OUR CRITTERS AND KIDS CAMP IN WITH US. WE ARE NEAR GRANTS PASS, BUT PLANNING OUR SPRING TRIP FROM DIAMOND LAKE TO CRESCENT LAKE. GOOD TIMES. CHEERS TO OUTDOOR ADVENTURES.
Ditch the trailer, having to turn it around on a trail could be a nightmare and it makes the van less capable. Those are really good tire chains but thy are installed incorrectly. Get a locker in the rear.
I've been driving vans for 38 years. Never had a 4x4 and have taken them in some crazy places. Posi-trac really makes a difference. The one I drive now for work is a pro-master front wheel drive. With your chains and good load distribution you'll be fine. Now I'm thinking of trading the Jeep for an old van.
You are living life...The van is a great addition to that. Great name not only represent a built out van but the adventure and getting lost in nature. Awesome video and will watch the build as it comes along
Cool van cool name the 4x4 part will be a challenge but with determination you'll get it completed... love the crackling of the fire.. love the dogs too they add a little ambiance to the vid.. good job!!
A locker in the rear only, especially if it is not selectable (e locker or ARB type) has a tendency to push the vehicle straight when making turns at intersections (snow covered roads). Without the front wheels working to drive the vehicle it is a pain in the ass. I know some throttle management can manage this to a point, but it is an issue to think about. I would not want a locker in a rear wheel drive vehicle that was not a selectable locker.
I am in my 12th year of retirement with no wife, no kids and I do anything I want, for as long as I want any time day or night. Favorites are gourmet cooking, camping, kayaking and woodworking. Life is good but I paid my dues. Get out there and have fun!!!!

How about just "Squatch" for the van name, just to shorten it up and make it your own?
Sorry...I've already taken that name...Jeep Wrangler JL.
Dr. Squat = saponification.
Ha ha ha! I was TOTALLY thinking the same thing. I got on here to leave the same comment!

@@junocide Were squanching in here !! hehe
Looking forward to see you fix up the Van . Good luck. Please keep videos coming.
Ditch the trailer, having to turn it around on a trail could be a nightmare and it makes the van less capable. Those are really good tire chains but thy are installed incorrectly. Get a locker in the rear.
Good video! Great name for van. Good luck on your upcoming projects! Thanks for sharing.
The only thing that matters>"Do Daisy and Wheeler like the van?"
Yup and especially for them to be able to see.
Very enjoyable video good luck with building the never ending van can’t wait to see it 4x4
New sub I seen ya on the van life, Love your fur kids❤️❤️
Four wheel drive van is definitely the way to go for over landing. Awesome.
I like the van, looks like a great move, you look like it makes you happy, I like the idea of 🐻 sausage, as always REMEMBER JESUS LOVE'S YOU 🙏 🙏🙏 .
Loving the video. Food 🥘 vids are always a hit! Looking forward to the Sasquatch updates.
But you'll never be Chris Farly living in a van down by the river cool haha
Cool van cool name the 4x4 part will be a challenge but with determination you'll get it completed... love the crackling of the fire.. love the dogs too they add a little ambiance to the vid.. good job!!
What are you feeding Wheeler and Daisy while you’re eating stew?!
Raw chicken
irishdefense77 first time watching. Liked it. Good luck
What about the dogs are you feeding them too
‘Sasquatch’... most definitely 👍🏽 Looking fwd to the build out.
Put a locker in the van, and you will never look back
. . . and a set of Hakkapeliitta's.
A locker with a Currie 9” Ford up front-they make 4WD kits for these which give you the best of all worlds.
Something that long you could Lincoln lock it with no trouble
Ken Uber what do you mean by a locker?
A locker in the rear only, especially if it is not selectable (e locker or ARB type) has a tendency to push the vehicle straight when making turns at intersections (snow covered roads). Without the front wheels working to drive the vehicle it is a pain in the ass. I know some throttle management can manage this to a point, but it is an issue to think about. I would not want a locker in a rear wheel drive vehicle that was not a selectable locker.
Looking forward to see your van build out. Thank you for sharing.
Tires with an aggressive tread would do wonders.
Lift with 33" BFGs
Congratulations on your purchase of the van! Love the name and can’t wait for your build out! Thanks for sharing!
"This looks super good"-Shoves in mouth... Me- That looks super HOT wtf lol!
Bruh
