Chad, I love watching your winter camp videos. When tent camping, I always prepared a one pot meal at home, bagged it, put it in the cooler. When we arrived and set up, everyone is ready to eat. All I had to do was heat it up over the camp fire, makes everything tastes better. Thanks for taking us along on your winter wonderland journey.
wondering why you didn't use the metal cylinder thing for the fire?
Reality Conformist I didn’t own it yet when this video was filmed.
How long does your diesel last
Meanwhile here I'm struggling to move in 17 Degree Celsius (Not Farenheit).
Thanks for giving the temperatures in both Fahrenheit and Celsius, much appreciated by us non-US peeps! Also, I love your winter vanlife adventures, keep 'em coming!
i like this guy. he’s so relaxing to watch, and his positive attitude is making me want to hangout with him!! 🤍 safe travels!!
this guy not so much except when he sends the drone up and you can see the quiet and peaceful scenery from above. i do watch another guy who puts me to sleep lol not because he is boring but because he is calm
We should hang out
I agree, that's why I watch him.
If you want we can Hangout together in Tbilisi I have my own camper van
Oh god there are satellites already?
If you have anxiety issues like I do, these videos are a big help. A chill guy living his best life his way. Lots of nice nature scenes and sounds.
I am happy to hear that these video helps! I really appreciate that!
Try going for CBT Cognitive Behavioral therapy, it helped me with hectic Anxiety, it really worked
What a majestic beauty of the incredible winter.
Chad I've watched you for years and I can honestly say you set the bar very high in the quality of your videos and your van life style. Cheers
Thank you very much Zac. I really appreciate the kind words.
I was going to say the same. Chad the extra work you put in doesn't go unnoticed. love the channel and look forward to the next upload.
Quit kissing his ass it embarrassing
The winter scenes look so beautiful almost unreal. Picture perfect!
I laughed when you stuck the beers in the snow. Seems like such a cool way to live (pun intended) lol. Thanks for posting another video. I can't watch all of it now (I'm outside playing around in the dirt), but I'll watch this before bed tonight and remember the days when I used to go camping!
Ps you're a boss for not using lighter fluid and setting up the fire the old school way 🔥👌
hahahah! Thanks for watching my friend!
I spent my childhood camping. As a family, we were somewhere every weekend. One of my favorite recipes that my folks made, was "campfire slop", which they prepared in a huge cast iron pan over the camp fire.
*Ground Beef, browned and drained
*Hot Dogs, cut up in 1" pieces
*2-3 Cans of Pork and Beans
*2 Cans of Potatoes, drained
*1 Can of Corn, drained
*Onion, chopped
*Garlic
*Use Seasonings & Hot Sauces to your taste
This was a one and done pot meal and it was hearty...warms you up as well if your camping when it's cold.
When I was younger, my friends and I would walk about 3/4 mile to our favorite winter camping spot in the woods. Usually, we brought an old heavy duty tarp for the main shelter and on a few occasions we built a quinzee. A campfire with hotdogs and a few slices of bread and we were set. Sometimes we'd sneak a few brews from our dads stock and didn't need much more.
Thats the good stuff brother
I feel like chicken fajitas or steak fajitas would be a real good Skillet meal
YES!!! I LOVE these winter camping videos. I found your channel from the last years winter camping and haven’t been disappointed at all. Keep up the good work!
Thats very cool to hear. Thank you for watching!
I love this! Freedom, nature, peace, beauty of life, simple and minimalistic! Lucky guy Chad! 👊👊👊
I can’t tell you how good it feels to have these videos back
Niiiiiice!!! Glad you are stoked!
@@LivingTheVanLife me-to-love-them
Only this man can make this job look so easy! Done in style with such respect for nature that it just pulls you in & your there! Your right there with him when he prepares his (always safe) fire to cook a gourmet meal but...he has no shared a single bite with me 😂🤤 This grandma is totally in awe of such talent! 👍👍👍👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
Cheers, Grandma! Thanks for all the kudos!
Just a tip so your pasta cooks evenly . Break handfull of noodles in half and so on as u add more. Will fit in pot better. I do that at home every time i cook pasta. Also save a little bit of pasta water (or dont drain out all the pasta water) will not only keep pasta from going dry but will make it nice n creamer and the pasta water does add flavor. U dont need a lot .i also do this at home when i make pasta
Glad to see you back Chad! Was missing your videos and wondering where you went. Long live LTVL!
Definitely Still here!
Favorite when i was in the scouts was the boil in bag omelet. Chopped cheese, onion, peppers, and ham in a ziplock freezer bag. To cook drop in 2 eggs and some seasoning, boil in water in the bag till solid. Eat from the bag, simple and easy to do with minimal cleanup.
That actually sounds really really cool! Hell yeah!! Thanks for sharing!
Damn, that's one beautiful van... 👌
The winter scenery is also amazing... 👍
I think you can cook khichdi with the Jetboil.
Add equal amount of both mung daal and rice, add some salt, add water, and put it on Jetboil until everything becomes soft.
Then when it's ready and the water is soaked up, you can eat it. You can eat it with buttermilk and it tastes good.
Pick up a bag of peeled and de-veined shrimp, cook them for a few minutes in a frying pan with some olive oil, black olives and garlic, throw them over some pasta, it's delicious and easy! You can remove the tails either before or after you cook them. I do it before so we can just eat them when it's ready. I would break the spaghetti in half before you put them in the water.
The way he drifted at 1:34 was epic 😅😅
Hefeweizen :D Big up from Germany, Stuttgart!
Tip: one portion of pasta is if you can fit them through a coke bottle hole. I'm using a jetboil as well. Tried heating up some meat balls in it, but it turned out disaster. The jetboil will be damaged if you dont use it with fluid. I think a jetboil is ok if you are not an experienced camper. A better (and cheaper) solution is to just screw a top burner on a gas bottle and use that with an ordinary kettle or a pan. My ultimate food as I'm a Norwegian is to take some fresh fish, wrap it in foil with some herbs and put it on the camp fire for a few minutes. Maybe works for meat as well. It seems you guys dont have much snow up there, and apparently its not very cold. Here we have about 10-12 feet. Last week we had minus 22 fahrenheit, not that bad. No slippery roads at that temp.
Camping not in camping parks is entirely diff thing, Love ur videos and imagining myself at ur place. We have decent snow in Toronto here but Mountains are'nt any near.
Welcome to backpacking life, cooking all in one pot. It's what we have done for years. Plus putting everything in one cup to eat it. Have fun.
It’s official. I want to be Chad when I grow up. If my wife will let me.
Brad Flynn good luck lol
Press X to Doubt
Hahaha
Be a man, don't become a soy boy
😂
After watching this I miss my Delica 4x4 diesel van even more! Enjoying your videos!
Always good to have can goods, chili, stews, soups ramen, tuna, bread and crackers when you can’t get to the store at least they are non perishable, I enjoy your videos, love the scenery
I came to this channel suddenly and now it became my fav channel
You are amazing. Keep doing whatever you are doing. It's the dream of many.
One thought on those cold nights.Use a hair dryer in your sleeping bag or blankets with you in it for 30 to 45 seconds and you are now toasty warm.
He never seems concerned about the wildlife that could kill him.
How do we know he's not pack'in a 9mm on his hip?
@@markg.2501 yea 9mm will jam hopefully he carries a 45 xd Springfield
@@botpatrol7263 Of course, I should have specified a RUGER P89 9mm......Totally my fault. So sorry for that. Have a good one!
Tens of thousands of rounds through my 9 mike mikes, not a single jam. 🤷🏻♂️
5:40 Fantastic. Naturally chilled
Just a tip when cooking pasta, always save a little bit of the pasta water to add to it with the sauce. It makes such a big difference in flavor and quality. Love your videos btw.
you make me want to sell my house and move in to the van
Nice! It is a game changer indeed.
@@LivingTheVanLife converting mine slowely for family camping fun. love the videos friend top notch
Just bought a shuttle bus about a year ago. Currently calling it home. Best thing I ever did. Rent is just too much of our incomes nowadays.
Do it! ❤️ I would travel and live in my Westy during the Summer months. Did that for four years. Three years ago my hubby and I decided to rent our house out and bought an RV. We love it. Can’t live in the VW because we have too many pets.😂
@@LivingTheVanLife happy christmas chad hope all is well in the van. maybe a crimbo dinner cooked in the skillet over the camp fire 😆 stay safe bud and keep up the good work
Ever since my house burned down a year ago, these videos have been making me feel more comfortable and at home! Great work thanks for the inspiration man! I must say it’s hard with a two wheel drive van in snow even with chains. A 4wd is an essential!
Makes we want to have a 4WD RV….thx for the scenery!!! I live in the Berkshires of MA and the snow on the pine trees are beautiful that I am fortunate to enjoy when home in winter.
Love the positivity on this guy. Just get in the van and start filming himself, put everything aside and enjoying one work that he love to do. Plus, he cook outdoor in the wild without worries if it attract the bear or wolf, if you cook outdoor in the city alone, the next thing you know is you need to buy a new pan tomorrow, your food being stolen and you cry to sleep.
When I am notified that you’ve uploaded a video, I save it to watch just before bedtime. A great way to end my day!
I like your meal of the boiled noodles, no complaints from me. I am entertained valuable by all your hard work of camping over night, in the snow in WA. Your drone shots of the landscape n scenery are so gorgeous.
Very cool winter camping. Any kind of food will do. Good to eat foods that will give you energy and warm you. I really like soups and stews.
Campfire white navy beans with white meat chuck chicken. Add green onion, green chili peppers, dice tomato, belle peppers, garlic, and chili power. Top with yellow cheese.
Thank you chad it’s a good inspirational moment I believe I do have some day when I ho to my country.
Take two packages of the Knorr flavor of your choice and use bacon bits or can tuna or can chicken if desired. Add half canned vege if desired. I like stir fry rice or broccoli and cheese. They have pasta or rice.
I love the cooking stuff, thanks for the great recipes. I wish I had a bigger appetite, I eat like a bird. However I do like talking about food, one of my favorite subjects.
I'd make a nice flank steak burrito on a hot plate. You can cook up a flank steak chop it up add some mushrooms, salsa, green onions, peppers and seasoning. Burrito shells are cheap and the last a long time.
You should try a different type of pasta. Instant noodle Ramen (just don't use the powder packet) or Chinese sen yai / ho fun (thin white noodles in wide strips). These can be steamed cooked and cook in a few minutes. Spaghetti pasta takes so long to cook. Ravioli is another quick option.
Wow- what a view in the morning....
Salmon, splay it open over the fire & smoke that thing Ray Mears style ‘old smokey’ then have some crusty bread & salad
Niiiiice!!!
Chad, love your vids and your van. I subscribed.
For cooking things especially pasta is avoid using oil in the pasta. Salt the water, don’t over do it but creating say water for the pasta helps the sauce cling to it and the pasta water is super starchy.
Avoid bacon bits, they’re soy! You can make your own and they keep for a long time!
Don’t avoid beans and rice for meals. I use my Jetboil and my lazy go to is cook up rice, and find some of that chili or Campbell’s chunky soup on top. Super hearty and not too terrible for you, aside from the sodium.
The Jetboil cooks a mean Mac n cheese, can’t go wrong there.
If I remember anything else I’ll hit up new videos if you’d like.
Stay warm my friend!
Chicken quesadillas! Quick, easy, and delicious in a pan over a campfire.
I use a jet boil a lot. 99% of the time I’m boiling. But I do use the adapter to use a little 8” cast iron flat bottom Dutch oven on the burner. Nothing special for meals. I’m a protein and veggies dinner guy. It’s been the same recipe for a few years. I wish I knew how to cook sea food. But your meals look very delicious. I want to try a few. And cheers to you with a proper pour of Scotch. Have a good one.
I love Chad’s videos. They always make me feel happy.
Put some seasoned ground beef, onions and potatoes in some tin foil and cook it over the fire. You can do any number of things with different meats and vegetables.
Snow- these van life trips to the mountains are a real treat to watch, you have passion and skill, plus you cook as well, what is not to like here. Thank you and please do more when you can. All the best for 2020, the year of Hindsight. Lol.
CHAD! Love your videos man. Great camerawork and storytelling, it really draws viewers in. A great idea for a jetboil or other hiker stove would be those rice sides or noodle sides you get in a package for $1. Those provide more than enough for one person and you can add in chicken or anything else to spice it up. Keep up the great work and can't wait to see what's next!
Your film making skills are so professional; it really takes your story to a whole other level. Thanks for helping us live vicariously through you!
Pepper steak out door cooking is fun and breakfast scrambled eggs and green chili
Can’t get enough of these videos 😁
Love the Trees....The van looks like a toy RC Van compared to the trees
I absolutely love it. Thanks for sharing!
So nice videos man.Hats down for you !!!For me one of most quality videos in RUclips.Respect for you man.Greetings from Bulgaria.Hope to camp with you some day⛄
next time snap the spaghetti in half before putting them in
Great effort there.I am truly amazed by ur video the way you have shot it! So many camera angles would take a lot of hard work, drone shots in thick greens with the van moving, placing the camera in the corner driving van around, coming back to pick up the same....omG....great work!!
diner ideas in winter camping? hot soup followed by something heavier and mulled wine :-P
Just a thought🤔🤔. When I go to work I love having microwave spaghetti. And because I’m so short in time and even though I always love to wrap my spaghetti in an extra large tortilla. A.k.a. the Spaghetto 🌯 Burrito. Perfect driving food one hand on the wheel and one hand around the burrito.Just a thought I would get one of those 90° fall down trailer hitch carriers to carry your firewood primarily on the backside of your van or in the front because of the Bug 🐜 🐛 🕷 issue most definitely the spiders in your bundle.
For me you are motivational respect you thought❤️
I love your winter camping videos!!!
Winter here in southern Ontario and just cooked a perfect steak on an open flame. But, can’t seem to avoid the sore throat from even small amounts of smoke... maybe I need to drink more beer - or whisky! Haha - then there Would be No steak...anyways, I ordered a Solo Campfire stove and the two pot set. Looking forward to using less fuel and less smoke - and watching the secondary burn! Solo now has a 2for1 on the Campfire model!!
Congratulations on 100K subscribers Chad! You deserve it. I am not a fan of snow but I enjoy watching you enjoying your winter camping trips.
Nice job man...super journey, great adventure, nice air shots too maybe with a drone or whatever that's motivational too.
Oh how i wish that i could live the van life... oh how i wish. One day!
You should try a smoked meatloaf w backed potato and asparagus. Delicious. Especially in the snow. Hope your dad is ok.
You visit some fantastic scenic areas . 👍🏻
How about some Salmon or other fish on the open fire, maybe rapped in aluminum-foile, with butter and some herbs... Put vegtables as sides... AWESOME!!!!!!
btw: the water takes longer to boil when you put the salt in the "cold" water, probably the same with the oil... I always wait for the water to boil...
Keep it up!!!!!!!!!!!
Your cinematography is amazing!! Keep it up!
I ENJOYED THIS!!! STAY SAFE! 💙👍💪🥰
4Patriots has survival food that's great for backpacking or van life. 😎👍
Noodles, alfredo sauce and chopped up chicken is delicious🤤
You can make a meat dish called adobong natural (pork)...its simple to cook its also good with a cold beer ... btw its Filipino dish ☺
I can't describe how envious I am.
Great videos! One of my favorite camp meals is Clam Chowder in a dutch oven. I make it with the clam shellls still in the soup.
Sitting outside in below freezing weather with a 6 pack and eating noodles. LOL. Ummm, Yeah, but no.
Not for everyone. If you like adventure why not
This is exactly why I make these videos. For those of you who dont want to do it. hahaha
@@LivingTheVanLife I personally think it is awesome, a retreat to nature and to yourself in a basic simple happy way . It does not get more simple and it does not get more satisfying. You get to be one with Nature and with yourself👌
That is very very true indeed!~ I couldnt agree more!
I 👍 like the meal you fixed Take ❤ care VA.
The shooting is amazing, esp. those big tall trees, beautiful but I'd be scared a little bit driving past alone
Your Drohne shuts are amazing Maaaaan 👍👍👍
Since you said you're kind of lost with what to make for food, maybe review army food packs in the van and comparing them to other country ones costwise, tastewise and so on 🙂. Great video! From Estonia.
Chittlins. Jet boil is good for chittlins with hot sauce
This went from Bear Grylls to Gordon Ramsey and I like it, keep living it up!
I discovered you and Matthew Posa with his dog pal Monty :-) u guys are great fun to watch
that is so beautiful bro wish it could be in that camp
Sir i really enjoy your videos thank you for this content sir.
Next time, try to break the spaghetti in half and it will fit inside your pot, with no problem at all.
I think beans in tomato sauce with some sausage can be easy and tasty food to make in Jetboil :)
Campsites, off the side of the road lol makes no sense to close the camp grounds. Awesome van set up bro!
Wow drone in the snow huh? How does it do? Great footage👍🏼LOVE your V-dub.
you deserve millions of subs
Wind it be easier to break the noodles in half and feed them that way? By the way you're doing it they'll cook more on one end and they will the other end.
1:33 LOL you could not PAY me to do that!! I love your sense of adventure. Thanks for the good content
