I say this as a man that has owned 2006 IS 350, 2008 GS 350, a 2006 e46 M3 and now a 2015 IS 350 f sport. My wife currently leases a f30 340i. My buddy has this motor in his RC-F. I drove it a few times. It cannot handle the ///M. Heavier, for sure. But still nothing like what the new G80 M3 will be. It may take on the old ///M. That's about it.

You can daily drive it to work, then drive it to the track on weekends and wring it's neck, then rinse repeat without worry of mechanical failure. Other sports cars can't compare to Toyota / Lexus.

You’re absolutely correct, this thing is m340i fighter. The whole point of Lexus introducing“F-Sport Performance” line is pretty much exactly the same as BMW M-Performance, and Audi S series, it’s to have very fast very capable, yet more sedated civilized options. And the benefit for Lexus is, now they can make more faster Lexus without going all into “F” territory. So we might see things like UX or NX F-Sport Performance in the near future.

In terms of long term reliability, Lexus will always beat BMW but when it comes to enjoying driving, BMW will always win. Lexus cannot win against the ultimate driving machine.
Top of the line RWD IS F-Sports handle better than M340i... I should know because I have driven both of them for a good time almost daily (my car and my cousin's). The IS feels much more balanced... it gives you the confidence to push it harder around corners. Can't say the same about the M340i

I rented a Lexus sedan one time (I don’t remember what model) and it handles slightly better then mustang GTs but it still felt num and kinda heavy. I currently own a BMW M2 CS and it handles really well and there is alot of steering feel.
I used to be unimpressed with old Lexus F models when compared to the previous AMG' s from Mercedes. Now after seeing how the new C class looks and the news that the C63 will be having a 4 cylinder hybrid, this IS500 suddenly becomes oh so good. I am thankful that Lexus continues to offer such an engine in today's situation. I only hope the price would be attainable for me.
