Is The 2022 Lexus IS 500 F-Sport Performance The Return Of The IS F?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 9 сен 2021
- With nearly a decade passing since the #LexusISF, enthusiasts have been begging Lexus to stuff a V8 back into their smallest sport sedan. For 2022, @lexus listened with the #LexusIS500. It many not be a true IS F, but the #IS500FSportPerformance is the most powerful #LexusIS ever, with 472 HP going to the rear wheels through an 8-speed AT and RWD. With a starting price of around $56,500, its about $10,000 less expensive versus the RC F which has the same 5.0L V8 engine.

The V8 is back in the Lexus IS and we have to say, we liked it a lot more than we expected. It’s quicker to 60 mph than a TLX Type S and Q50 Red Sport, plus that V8 noise is just perfection. We also liked the $56,500 base price but fully loaded at $67k is a bit steep. Still, we’re glad Lexus decided to give us a V8 again! Would you guys go for this car or choose one of its turbocharged 6-cylinder competitors?
The v8 sound alone is worth the extra cash over the turbo competitors
I'd still go with the m340i
Yep, this is *MY* opinion but I think it looks better, sounds better, reliability is a hell of a lot better and styling probably to because the Germans to me are getting bland and soulless. The interiors kill the Lexus tho and might have the edge over the Lexus in driving experience.
@@motobazuka2535the M340I is faster, has better gas mileage, has better technology, and a nicer interior for the same price.....its a no brainer
Would pick it a y time of the day over all competitors. Thanks Sofyan for non-baised review.
An engine like that in a modern car is a gem. Tired of all these damn small displacement turbos and EVs/hybrids nowadays. Well done Lexus!!
Long live jdm v8s 🔥
I miss the days when Lexus made this high revving N/A V8. This is one of the best V8s I think have ever been made.
Man! That sound was beautiful
There’s no replacement for displacement
Although today wasn’t payday. Waking up to a bunch of new is500 reviews made my day!!!
Absolutely!
I don't think the interior looks dated at all, not everything needs a wall of screens and 0 buttons
The interior feels dated compared to others in the segment. The interior is just old. Too much plastics and bad ergonomics. You'd have metals and leathers in other cars, not cheap plastics.
Go look at the interior of a 2011 Lexus IS and then compare it to this 2022 model. It's nearly unchanged.
@@tommyaintgotnojob the 2011 looks way different your tripping. You mean 2014 and up
@@bubblelex5051 Yeah he tripping, 2014+.
But still an old interior.
Lexus aren't worth buying new. Buy them at 50k miles 2-3 years later.
Or just get a BMW and enjoy the ride

This car is beautiful. The refreshed IS is definitely a looker and now with the engine to match. Would be nice to get the F treatment. This interior combo would also look great in the Grecian blue color.
Lexus built this car to last for 20-30years. Every part in the car is tried and proven.
As it should. The car dates back to 2008, like most lexus models.
Same like Lexus ls400 I own a 1989 Lexus ls400 from original owners is pass away and I brought a Lexus ls400 is running almost 32 years! Amazing everything is still work!
30 years? Yeah, no.
Dig that
The hybrid versions as well? I hope so, I have one..
Hey Sofyan, picked up my 2022 IS 500 Premium on Friday and driving it the 800 miles back home!
1. Unlike your tester, mine came with the upgraded Mark Levinson sound system, a moonroof, and memory seats.
2. After 500 miles, I can report the brake pedal is kinda soft. It’s fine, but definitely softer than my 2016 IS 350 FSport. The interior has been around, it’s like sitting in my 2016, but not. It’s weird how it can be both. Basically it’s quite comfortable and very functional. No need for over the top ambient lighting or an overly large touch screen. IMO
3. There is a difference in drive modes, like Jekyll & Hyde difference. I suspect Lexus reviewed the videos of you and a few others, and made adjustments to the transmission’s software mapping. On the highway, NORMAL mode is freaking terrible for a driving enthusiast. The handling and the responsiveness is way too lazy.
For long highway trips, I say SPORT mode is best. The car literally wakes up and you’re like: “Okay…this is the business, now I’m driving a sports car!” The RPMs are just a smidge higher, the gas mileage is the same, and the comfort is still Lexus. Just easier to modulate speed and direct the car.
In SPORT+ (on long trips) the steering is way too heavy and the rest of the car is too firm. In the city however, it’s Sport+ all day, every day for me! 😂
I knew your review was spot-on, so glad I was able to see it before getting mine. Keep up the great work!
How much was urs otd?
He doesn't know what he's talking about, at 8:57 you can see the "Mark Levinson" in the middle console
And it’s all Lexus… No BMW or Subaru DNA. This car is gorgeous and a huge shout out to Lexus for doing this can’t say enough. Wish I could afford it maybe A low mileage well-maintained non-abused used one in a few years....sigh
Just wait 3.5-4yrs it’ll be like 45k, okay mileage and yeah depending if ya finance etc. I’ll still be shy of 50k.
Sofyan, side note. It did come with the Mark Levinson system. You can clearly see the callout on the head unit at about 8:58 into the video.
I absolutely love the IS and the 500 even more so. Will be trading in my '16 IS350 FSport RWD for this very soon. Great and fair review as always; but I'll admit, I was concerned you'd hate and trash it! Whew! :-D
Enjoy! I can attest, having a '19 Bullitt, that a V8 for a daily (assuming you'll daily yours) is a fantastic decision! :)

@Just think Right…’Trade it in’ meant sell it to Carmax or one of the new online dealers. Don’t worry, I’m not trading the car in to Lexus. 😉👍🏽
@Just think I’ve consistently seen over inflated sale prices through these other venues. If the market is still as such right before I take delivery (Early 2022?) then CL isn’t a consideration.
I don’t think The interior looks outdated. I personally love it . Anyone else ?
It's gorgeous. Aside from the infotainment graphics, everything is premuim. Some people just want flashy gimmicky interiors...
I think is fine. But no memory seats, no telescopic s wheel, no sunroof. They can do better than that. My old gs350 has all that. I that price point car should be fully loaded
@@fred89pj all the 500s I’m seeing have those, I’m getting one in march
What a fantastic car! By far my favorite entry in that segment, no question. So much charisma with that V8, looks like one of my childhood Shogun Warriors come to life. A chiseled, gorgeous hunk of a car.
C&D weighed the IS500 at 3980 lbs so the weight is not much different. A lot of misleading things in the video. RCF is a track oriented F car and it has a lot of track hardware that the IS500 F-Sport does not have. The "frankenstein" chassis was created for track performance so it has a much higher rigidity quotient than the the IS (which is why Lexus did not use the IS chassis). RCF has a much stiffer suspension/chassis setup, better brakes, better wheels/tires, better cooling systems and much better seats with available carbon fiber/TVD. That is why it costs much more.
The reason that Lexus gave for the frankenstein chassis is a load of crap. This gen's IS platform was one of the best driving platforms of its class when it came out in the 2014 MY, it surprised many reviewers.
@@rousseau327 No, it was great when comparing to A4 or C-class etc., bur IS chassis was simply not good enough for an M4 competitor class. Yaguchi himself said hr did not want to use the IS chassis because the core was not stiff enough and the the much stiffer IS-C middle was used while 3IS was used just for the rear compact dimensions. RCF chassis was built for GT3 racing homologation where RCF GT3 win races and the IS chassis was simply not stiff and wide enough. Lexus put a ton of work to achieve a much higher rigidity chassis and anyone can tell driving them back to back. Not to mention it could not fit the V8 and the nose had to be elongated on the IS500 by 2 inches and the engine hangs more aft of the front axle. Also, the RCF chassis has 40% higher rigidity quotient than the IS chassis has. The IS chassis is relatively flimsy pushing at the ljmits by comparison and it is a fact. Car and driver called that. Not me. That is why RCF pulls 0.98g in lateral grip tests a and IS is nowhere close.
I feel Lexus USA need to fire their marketing manager ...
The car always missing something.
They could easily make this car IS F, Adding Air fender and rear wings. Rear seat suncurtain on doors. This car will be selling GOOD!!!!!
The thing is those are not enough for F. You need to add AT Cooler and Engine Oil cooler which both GS F and RC F have and then the TVD as well, all those plus body parts = mega price hike, that will shoot up to 75-80K, and it will be an insane rip off. But here you get the front suspension from GS F with AL Forged parts and the Yamaha Performance Dampers in the rear and the Aisin AA80E which is same as GS F and IS F. Finally the sales of IS are 20K in USA, the IS 500 in 2022 was marked up by 7-10K insane now we can get it at MSRP and it's already selling a lot, Lexus just want to give it a send off, I think 2025 might be last year for the NA V8 from Lexus. LC 500 will be replaced by the Lexus EV Supercar and RC F may get discontinued entirely, GX already lost V8 in 2023, IS 500 will also be gone marking the end of an era.
It's definitely got the spirit of the original ISF in its style and glorious v8....

@@SIIKAP1 And they would sell exactly 3.2 cars.
I've watched lots of reviews on the lexus IS 500 & 350s and it seems that journalists don't understand the point of cars like these, it's not about comparing it to turbo competition in a straight line or expect to get the latest tech. It's about the classic driving experience and exclusivity factor for someone who knows their cars, in addition to not going broke with all of the service bills.
I love the new IS 500, it's sleek, beautiful, powerful, reliable and practical.
The spec of your tester is perfect, Infrared with the white interior, *chefs kiss.
Everytime i see this car i look at least twice… i almost crashed first time i saw it… it’s incredibly nice looking… especially the back 😩
Right same look as the IS 300 and 350 they all look amazing!
It's absurd to compare the Lexus IS 500 F Sport to the BMW M3 or Mercedes C63, or even the C43. They are at totally different price points. If you compare it to cars at the same price point, I think you'll find the Lexus IS 500 F Sport takes the cake, even with its dated interior. Because, at $56,000-$59,000, its competition is the BMW 330i or 430i, or the Audi A4 or A5.
Good luck getting an IS500 for that price… I was looking and everything is $80+ launch edition bs

No one is buying a Lexus to have bragging rights about sheer performance. Stop trying to compare this to other vehicles in the "same class." Those other vehicles will be faster with more tech, yes, but they will fall apart inside of 5 years. You can drive this car for 20 years - THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE REALLY PAYING FOR.

My very first Lexus was the woeful 2008 IS250. It was a fun car to drive, but very power deficient. At last, Lexus has finally stuffed something worth talking about in the IS! Good for Lexus, good for us.
Same here. I had the 2011...and the car looked great, and more importantly, fast...but it drove like a 4 cylinder 2010 Accord.
I live in the Dallas area, I see these every where. Good looking car, definitely always has me staring.
Amazing car! Just the fact of not having a turbocharger it's a big advantage over the competitors

I live in a snow state but that didn't stop me from putting snow tires on my past RWD M3. With some snow tires this should be completely fine.
That stopped me from getting a GS F which i regret now driving just a GS350 thats underpowered
It will be sad when cars like this are no longer available for sale. EV's are really the future but I still prefer the feel and sound of a combustion engine. Naturally aspirated V8 is even better.
You won’t have to worry about it in your lifetime. Do you really think several dozen trillion dollar industry worldwide it’s just going to fall off the face of the earth? Do you really think governments were allow it? Lose trillions of dollars a year in taxes? Electric vehicles are surely here to stay in a Big way Lagasse isn’t going anywhere for a while.
@@Eric_In_SF you make some strong comments here but actually there is already major change happening in the industry and governments as well as automakers are both moving quickly in this direction. California has set 2035 deadline for all new vehicle sales to be electric only. Washington state set a more aggressive deadline for 2030. Car manufacturers are creating electric vehicles for every segment including big trucks like the new Ford Lighting. Finally range anxiety for EVs will no longer be a problem in the next decade as battery makers have found a way to make a battery last 10 years or 1 million miles without a single charge. It is estimated that 58% of all new vehicles sales will be EVs by 2040. By that time, it will be impossible to buy a car with a natural aspirated V8. I live in one of the states with this EV deadline so in my situation it does impact me in my lifetime.

I was really looking forward to Redline Reviews reviewing the is500. Great video, RR is the best car reviews!
It is odd that that the Lexus uses simulated leather seats .. The Toyota Camry XSE and XLE have" genuine leather" seating as standard equipment ... The simulated still looks good and they use that in a lot of vehicles .
It is not actually lighter than the RCF and RCF all of the extra track hardware. It is softer and compliant. RCF has a heavier steering, which is why it feels heavier, but it is much better for high speed turning on the track as far as making corrections and confidence. IS500 F-Sport weighed in 3980 lbs and RCF is around 20 lbs more. Basically, an IS350 with the RCF V8, but RCF is way more nimble and more agile on the race track. I took a ride in the IS500 F-Sport on the track with Townsend and drove an RCF on the race track. You can immediately see the difference between a proper F car and the F-Sport. That is why RCF is so much more expensive with all of the track hardware, brakes, suspension, wheels, tires, cooling etc.

Back seat and safety features were never even spoken about in this review.
This might sound like a dumb question but you say your tester didn't have the Mark Levinson system yet at 7:22 of your video, you see the typical white knobs associated with the ML system, and when you look closer at the name plate below the CD player (just up from the seat warmer buttons), you can see the lettering of the ML - Am I missing something?
This car may have some dated element's to the interior, but who cares. The NA V8 sounds amazing the modest exterior upgrade was perfect and I would pick this over anything in it's class. Also, the build quality and reliability would have you enjoying this IS for a long time.
The original ISF was as bit as every fast as competition.
The updated 2014 ISF put down the same lap number as the V8 M3 competition at the time. Fact
I feel like everyone always pegs the ISF to the 2008-2009 versions without the torsen and with the poor suspension tuning(2010 had the poor suspension as well). Ultimately that's Lexus' fault but still.
This statement shows just how far the competition has progressed in performance cars and how Lexus hasn't. For nearly $70,000 you're getting a car thats nearly 10 years old and that's slower than any car in this class that's priced at almost $70,000....the last ISF also couldn't match the dynamics of its competitors and its interior wasn't on par ...just like this fake leather and dated Is500 🤷

@Prime Artemis That actually isn’t facts lol I just don’t care debate with someone that’s a lexus hater 😂
@@hamsterbrigade yeah I agree most don’t know that the ISF Was updated and got continuous revisions throughout the years most people think all ISF are the same. That’s why they continue to say it was “not as good” when in fact it was better lol and it’s actually worth more than all of the competition from its time today
The interior satisfies me till this day ...
I really enjoy Lexus's design language lately. But the IS sorely needs a replacment. The interior, while beautifully made, is dated. Very dated. Great review!
They really needed to make this car using a shortened version of the LS' GA-L platform. Then, it could be modernized, including 10-speed automatic and AWD.
Its still the highest quality interior in history. Once you own one lexus you realize that 20 years later the interior looks like new.
Lately? It’s been the same designs for years, like 7 years.
Agreed it's been the same since 2014. This one should've been a new generation not a refresh.
@@borninhk1 i agree completely.
Man i really want one of these. I think itll look great in the garage next to my 2023 Tundra😁
