Better than most in the segment because of that NA V8. Such a dying breed and so special to have that still! Great vid!
It is crazy to thing they are all going extinct.
and it is not korean! Made in Japan, not N/A too!
Over price
Joe, I read on the Lexus forums, the trans or oil cooler is not on the production cars. Someone had photos of the Launch edition. Great review as always!
@@allentoyokawa9068 100% agree and I think they still make them at the Tahara award-winning plant!
Working at a Lexus dealership the 500s that have come through are beautiful. Can't wait to see them more regularly after the market settles. Blacked out wheels would be best on the 500
I love the exterior and power, but that interior is a major deal breaker. 🤦♂️
I've sat in a 2022 IS350 F-Sport and the seats were just incredible, it made me feel very secure, I loved it. I currently have a dated Q50 v6 turbo, tuned to about 500hp, and really considering making the switch to Lexus IS. The exterior looks great and that V8 sound is exhilarating.
Great looking car……amazing color. Love the rear end with the staggered exhaust. I would have to go with v8 Lexus on this comparison. Thanks Joe and Lori…. Awesome video 👍
Lexus made this one a standout!
Ambient lighting in the interior wouldve taken it from a 4 to a 8. Its so annoying how leuxs has made such a beautiful exterior but still have the last gens interior
This is a very good point! They did bring it under the hood thought!
The whole car is many years old at this point and that is showing. The V8 can't completely cover for it. It's basically the same car from 2006.
Once again the reason this car does not have an all new interior is because this is not a all new car this is technically the same car from 2014 all lexus did was update the chassis make any more rigid more wider and better to drive does that is why the interior is the same because this is not an all new car
Yeah they should have spent the money
Agreed, some nice ambient lighting and maybe ditch the touchpad for a wireless charger that holds your phone while it’s plugged in for android auto or apple CarPlay. And maybe some usb C’s in the back then it would be perfect. Just a few tech improvements would make this perfect. The exterior and reliably is already great
4 second 8cyls naturally aspirated 😎 she's an endangered breed. Ain't much of a Lexus fan but thank you for that engine configuration. Nicely done 👍.
So very true! Thanks for taking the drive with me!
*4.5 seconds, but ya amazing engine.
$57,000 for a base IS 500 or $62,000 for this one is a fair price. Another reason why I LOVE Lexus!!
I would take a base is500 with 100k miles over a brand new fully loaded genesis with no miles if I was given the option to choose. Hyundai’s are garbage
LOL ok man. Speaking from personal experience with the G70 or just hearsay?@@Elite_Employee

Of course it's better. It's much better, in fact. Not only that V8 is so nice and juicy, it's also extremely reliable (it's been around for years and has been tried and true).
It really is bullet proof!
I had a 2014 IS 250. I loved how it drove. I can't wait to see what you think about the IS 500.

This is a no brainer......love the sounds that NA V8 produces, not to mention the reliability which also comes with that monster.
That is the way that I am going for sure!
Ngl, kind of sounds like a v6

@@Striker50_ I owned an IS 350 previously, and an IS 500 now. I would have to insist they do not sound anything alike!
This car has what most cars are missing today. A soul
Lexus designs are always elegant and attractive. And this car in particular does not get the eye wet from watching it and does not get the soul wet from driving it.
Thank you Double R😇💙
I test drove a G70 today as well as an IS 350. (and a few other cars, Stinger GT2, BMW 3 series, etc)
I decided on the IS 350. For me, it was perfect.
I'm so glad that you found the right one.
Very special car I really much appreciate Lexus for keeping a V8 in a D segment sedan
I totally agree with you! Lexus is really doing it differently.
I was one of those fans begging for more horsepower in the Lexus IS350. I chose the G70 3.3TT because the Lexus was not fast enough and was outdated inside. This is a beautiful car and they fixed the HP issue with the V8. With all that the vehicle's interior is still dated. The G70 is a win for me. The brushed aluminum in the G70 looks so much better than the flat blacks in the IS500 and not having the option for the sliding panoramic roof is a NO...NO for me. I do miss out on the V8 sound though.
The V8 is amazing and we know how reliable it will be long term. I had an 09 IS-F which had the harsh ride so definitely a fan. Thankful they built it today, but a CD player and still a track pad you dont need with a touch screen? Anyway last of a dying breed for sure.
They fixed the ride on the IS-F by 2012, then it was a perfection!

That CD player gets the absolute best out of that Mark Levinson sound system. I'm glad its still there, as niche as it may be.
I love it. Please, Lexus, more of this! I love my IS 350 but can't say I don't have a desire to upgrade to one of these bad boys one day.
So I upgraded. I got a 2023 IS 500 FSP Premium in Infrared (the same color that's shown in this video). I am in love. I can't help myself - I think of excuses to take it out all the time!
PPE headers and exhaust on this will be killer. Interior is basic and clean, I prefer that. Cant wait for my base allocation to come next year. This car will stay in my garage forever!
I love the way that you think!
Just parked my IS500 Launch Edition in my garage yesterday… I haven’t stopped smiling. Sexy, Luxury, Muscle that will be reliable for years to come to simply age like a fine wine. M’s have more performance, AMG’s interior and raw power is in a different league… but this isn’t meant to compete on that level. It’s the FINAL Hurrah of an era where the V8 was god and muscle was the name of the game. This is a Luxury Muscle,Swan Song, with naturally aspirated power, meant to be driven into high revs and built to last through this nice phase of Turbo/Electric/Hybrids that must become the new norm… but not for me 😉😎
Congrats Erik!
I’m looking at buying one. What’d you have to pay?
With the amount of on throttles in this video .... you know it's a banger
You better believe it!

@@RaitisRides Totally!
Nice car and good to see a new NA V8 compact-ish sport sedan. Better than the stinger GT2 and TLS Type S imo. Gonna last much longer than all those turbo charged cars out there.
It would be my choice!
I think that IS 500 worth every bit of it's price tag.
The car looks stunning, especially in this red color. The fun factor is huge and I can care less about latest gizmos and gadgets.
Great sound from naturally aspirated V8 and Lexus legendary reliability is something you CAN NOT find in its German competitors these days.
Build in Japan is simply the best. Their dealer network is awesome too.
Good to mention that this car will maintain its resale value better than any other car in its class.
Hats down for Lexus offering this car on the market👍
The last Lexus V8 I owned was in a LS430 -- and I'm sure it's still running with over 300K miles. I suspect this V8 powerplant is a lot more reliable than the twin turbo competitors... an M3 will probably spend twice as much time in the shop as this...
That is a very good point to mention Harvey!
It’s the same engine as the original 08 isf just slightly modified… Meaning this engine is bullet proof.
how is it in terms of fuel consumption?
I definitely like the sound of that V8 I would love to have it in my driveway
I don't think in the past I would have wanted a Lexus over every German competitor.. but that V8 has me sold.
8:36 Damn Right! That fender flare is my favorite part of the car. Just bought a 2021 IS350, I love the lines on the car. Looks fast just sitting there.
The Genesis V6 starts at $42K and is fully loaded at $50K. This Lexus is awesome but it starts at $57K and gets up to $62K. I guess that difference might still be worth it but for now anyway dealers aren't even willing to sell for MSRP.
Lexus will have a better resale value. Just look at how much the IsF are selling for.
6yrs old Genesis worth literary NOTHING.
@@johnerickp Does that still work out on an *over* MSRP purchase? And there's still something of a time value of money situation if you're spending $10K more upfront
@Zero You definitely do pay for it. The IS500 is great but getting your hands on one is going to be difficult. So maybe the better comparison is IS350 vs G70?
@Zero Who cares about resale? Most buyers lease performance sport sedans! I'll take the Genesis G70, which is better equipped than the Lexus and save the $200 a month on a 3 year lease. That's $7,200 over the lease term.
How amazing to be here since the beginning and get to see a million subscribers! Keep it up Joe!
I really appreciate you being on the journey with me.

That side profile with the lower kink, that sweeps above the rear wheel reminds of the side profile of a 4th gen Prius

This is a very good point!
Nah it’s a knock off for people who can’t afford a f car.. same with bmw
@@storm-shadow1237 F cars are very unforgiving. After test-driving the GS-F, I was like: it is definitely NOT a daily driver. Phenomenal but way too loud and stiff. Fantastic for the track though.
This is not a ISF dude. There’s a new ISF coming out that will be way faster and better then this so chill out and listen to what Lexus is saying.
The original ISF is much more raw and better driving then this IS500.
@@is2jzge Sounds like you drove a modified GSF because a stock GSF is one of the most quiet sports cars around lol can't say the same about the suspension though. They are made to be a bit more stiff than the normal Lexus but that's what you get when you want sporty. The BMW M4 for example is even more stiff than the GSF from what I heard so its like that with most sports cars.
From an avid enthusiast's standpoint, the Lexus still wins hands down without screens & tech. I would definitely go valvetronic Armytrix exhaust which would make you forget about the 8spd upshifts.
Was hoping you’d do this one. Wow nearly 100 hp/liter for an na engine that size is great. Beautiful color too, reminds me of Mazdas signature red. Sounds great too. Makes a real case for itself in a class with no weak competitors
The V8 sound is amazing, when i start my GX460, the sound is like a roaring lion. The neighborhood can hear it.
😂
I completely agree, Joe, with the preference for the dark chrome on some of the accent pieces, whether or both on the mirror caps as well as the IS500 insignia. This particular F sport trim really almost requires the dark chrome accents in those key areas. Considering just how stubborn and generally inflexible the Lexus engineers and designers have always been, it is refreshing to see them still willing to embrace the naturally aspirated V8 on this model as they've done on that awesome LC500. The "on throttle" portion of this review really had me LOL with your enthusiasm which is always a delight with your reviews.
This is the F sport PERFORMANCE trim. Not F sport

Hmmm, between the IS500 and G70, I might would go with the Lexus just for the V8, but the rest of the car is laughably outdated at this point. You get more features on a loaded Camry. Why can't they deliver a full package?
It is obvious you really are having a blast driving this car - Mine will be here within a month, can't wait! Great work as always!!!
I own a 2021 G70 TT. I love it. I used to be a Lexus Guy, but when I started buying the Genesis Brand, it's a Lexus Slayer.(Sorry Lexus). My first Genesis was a 2017 G80 5.0. That car was fast as F.
the g70 is even faster lol
I cross shopped the IS500 before buying my 2022 G70 AWD 3.3T Sport Prestige a few weeks ago, and as much as I like the 5.0L in the IS500, the G70 was a more feature rich and updated vehicle in pretty much every other way. Overall, the G70 brings a lot more to the table, and somehow Genesis does it for $10k less. And that's without even considering the mod potential of the G70. For $2k in aftermarket parts, the G70 will run 0-60 in the high 3's and the quarter in the low 11's . . . that's a LOT of bang for the buck.
Thanks for sharing that great perspective!
@@RR-ll2ns I plan on driving the car for 7 years and then giving it to my son, so resale value is frankly irrelevant to me. Also, Genesis placed first in the J.D. Such a great review Mr. Raiti, love and respect to Lori. I now know what car I really want next. Thank you Raiti's Rides.
That is so awesome of you to say Eddie! We appreciate you so much!
I love Lexus. But if I had the money to buy this car, reliability is not something that crosses my mind. For this price I’d rather choose something sportier or with a more luxurious interior. I’d personally go genesis or BMW. The amount of people who can comfortably purchase this won’t care about reliability
Agreed. More expensive than an BMW M340i which isn't even a "special" car in the BMW line and is slower, less tech, more outdated interior, and less connected to the driver in comparison. You can't have a cheaper car and lower model of a competitor be better than your more expensive car in every way. If you're buying the IS 500 over BMW, Mercedes, etc. it's simply because it's a Lexus. The car is beautiful on the outside. Everything else is lacking. Also, for a V8 the exhaust sounds so weak.
As for reliability: the new BMWs have proven to be very reliable having being ranked up across pretty much every car analyst so that doesn't even come into the equation when looking at the IS 500 vs BMWs.
I’m sorry I don’t know what the hell you’re talking about but nothing else is more sporty than this with a V-8 engine especially not Genesis or the BMW which are both boring in comparison
@@jonathannavarro6679 M340i is no doubt a better overall vehicle but the IS500 is something special in its own right and that itself will hold a legacy. People will forget about the M340i like every other BMW out there (except for the E90 M3).

The Lexus IS500 of the top of my head is the only D-segment sedan to have a V8 under the hood.
The new C63 AMG will no longer have a V8 under the hood; instead, it’ll have a 2l 4cyl PHEV system.
This is so very true. Drive me nuts to even think about it!
Here's the thing... If you want typical, V8 noise, torque (sort-of) then the Lexus might be the route to take. The C63 will be faster period, this is not an ISF just a Sporty model over the standard car. MBZ would not use both a 2L turbocharged engine with a electric assist unless it was on the same level or better than the current C63. Be disappointed, nothing wrong with that but science/facts trump emotion. Loving V8 noises is emotional and emotion doesn't win races, technology does.

I've driven the G70 3.3t HTrac and it's a great car. However, you just can't get an NA V8 in a compact luxury sedan. It's really a personal preference and probably splitting hairs, but I'd take the Lexus.

@@abusambinsammy good question. I've not driven the is500 so I couldn't give a proper comparison. However, I have driven the new IS350 F Sport quite a bit and I found the G70 chassis was more composed. I'd take the IS500 over the TLX-S the Stinger GT, and the Genesis G70, Lexus dropping a V8 into the IS was a great choice 👌
is a v8 and what? is slower than most of his competition which are v6tt
Coming from a 2004 Lexus GS430 3UZFE owner. This vehicle is stamped for approval!😊
Only thing better here vs the G70 is the engine. Other than that, the G70 stomps! The only reason Lexus is giving us the IS500 is out of desperation. The Koreans are putting way too much pressure on the JDM brands. Lexus knew the only way to cause sensation was putting the V8 in this. While the 3.4/3.5TT from the LS500 would've probably been a better choice (in terms of performance), its production is compromised, as they're saving all available units to fit the upcoming Tundra, LX600, and Sequoia. 2UR 5.0L V8 was the only viable option for the IS500 and is helping them clear excess/unused units after discontinuing the GS-F.
Just went to see an IS500 today - up, close and personal. It's prettier than any IS before it. That being said, it's one of those cars that looks better in pictures. Very bland and little to no presence . The wheels look Ok in pictures, but in person they're kinda fussy and just don't fit the overall design. Not sure why they didn't blackened them out. It's also devoid of tech features when compared to the competition. This car is worth it if bought at a discount, just for the V8, but at MSPR or above, I'm afraid all of its competitors make a more compelling case and are better styled. The IS500 could've been so much more... sadly, it's not.
Great review! I have had all Lexus IS generations staring with the 2003 IS300 5-speed manual to the current 2019 IS 350F Sport. All have been phenomenal. This IS500 is very tempting but I do wish they offered AWD for colder climates and (oh no!), a real manual transmission. The lack of a sunroof is a good thing since it offers better body rigidity.
No modern car has rigidity problems because of a sunroof. That's a terrible excuse not to have one.
@Bowhunters Duly noted. Thanks!
All wheel drive….low fun factor
I would still choose the G70 over this, V8 growl and all. Its more of an emotional decision though. The Lexus interior looks old already. The G70 is just gorgeous yo.
G70 is slower though. IS 500 has that amazing n/a V8 which will last much longer and it's the faster car. No brainer imo
@@ProudSunniMuslim Yes, thats why I said its more emotional than logical. Lexus in true Toyota fashion tuned this more towards luxury than sport. Hear me out, this has 100hp more than the G70, yet its only 0.2seconds quicker in a straight line. Barely noticable. And they are within the weight bracket. Put it this way, it makes M3 power but performs like a M340i. Its going to last twice as long as the G70 (and maybe 3 times as long as the BMW 😂). But this is supposed to be the Sport sedan in the lineup, Its suppose to be appealing to my emotional side, not leading me to make 'sensible shoes' decision. That type of decision making is what you use when buying a Camry.
@@captainjack6890 Where did you get that the IS is only .2 seconds quicker in a straight line? They only have comparable 0-60 times because the G70 has a lot of torque but the IS 500 is a 12 second car in the 1/4 mile while the G70 is a 13 second car. The IS will also be much faster in a roll. And I don't understand how a 5.0 n/a V8 isn't appealing to your "emotional" side. The IS 500 is by far the more fun car lol you must have a different meaning of emotional. It doesn't get more emotional than hearing that amazing n/a V8. In a segment full of turbo 4 and 6 cylinders Lexus is one of the only brands still with the n/a V8, that's why people want the
IS because it appeals to their emotional side, they don't make cars like this anymore.
@@ProudSunniMuslim G70 368hp 3.3TT V6, 0 to 60 4.4secs, 1/4 mile13.0 secs
IS 500 472hp 5.0 V8, 0 to 60 4.2secs, 1/4mile 12.7secs. The M3 with similar power (1hp more to be exact) is a full second quicker, which is suggesting not a lot of low end torque for IS 500 and engine that make so much power. Its a mystery of sorts (for the uninitiated) 5L V8, 472hp... but has to hang with V6s and Turbo 4s making 100hp less? I guarantee that if the G70 made 472hp, it would mop the floor with the IS 500. Lexus must have filled the transmission with jello for it to be underperforming so badly.
@@captainjack6890 do you not know what forced induction does? Of course turbo 6 cylinders will have more torque than an n/a V8 which is why they have better initial acceleration. The standard rwd M3 with 479hp and 403lb-ft does 0-60 in 4.1 seconds which is basically the same as the IS. Only the AWD M3 competition is a lot faster because it has 479 lb-ft of torque which is almost a 100 more than the IS. The IS 500 has 472hp and 395 lb-ft of torque. If the G70 had 470hp it would probably have around 450+ lb-ft of torque so of course it would be faster than the IS. The IS is an n/a engine so it won’t have as much torque as these turbo engines. It’s not hard to understand.

Joe, I'm pretty sure the Genesis G70 is a 10.25" Infotainment not 14.5", but it has smaller bezels so it's still a nicer display. Thin bezels are key.
Joe only tells ppl what’s inside the car that’s all he does not do vs this is why I stop watching him he not honest the g70 looks better and it’s cheaper and u get more for the money even if it was the same price what just faster that’s all
That’s why dough is better he would say don’t buy it u can get better for the money he lets ppl know …..this guy does not he just review and tells you what’s inside and then drive it and that’s all and then nothing he does not tell you why is this a better choice for you then th g70 or Kia stinger or anything it’s pointless watching this guy
I've been waiting on this review! The Lexus IS500. Looking forward to the true ISF also. By the way, Lexus needs an LCF, something to replace the LFA (or close to it).
They say it is coming as an EV.
Oooooooooh myyyyyyyy gaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwd this Lexus brings nothing but the business!!! The NA V8 puts this on a whoooooooole other level!!! And that red is the cherry on top!!! Kudos to Lexus for putting together this package and alllllllllll the thumbs up to you and Lori for bringing us this beast of a beauty!!!
Does the IS 500 have more room in the back than the IS 350? Some people who review 350 say people over 5'10 will be hitting the head but here he's 6'0 tall and he's comfortable in the back seat
Beautiful car!
I love the freaking color.
it will last a lot longer anyway lol. You could keep it just about forever. It will only be stopped by the Oil crisis :). Sadly the IS and RC line are not even available in OZ anymore. Good excuse to keep my RC though.
That is very sad!
I usually hate Lexus since their grills are ugly but this one, this one in red is like a super model with a nice couple of chalupas and maybe an order of nacho fries
Plunked down some earnest money today on an Infrared with black interior 2022 IS500 F Sport Performance Premium. Built in Aichi, Japan so will take a little time for delivery. Can live without the HUD, especially with the superb Multi Information Display. Not quite ready for electrification. Plus, gotta love that N/A 5.0 liter V-8! Don’t put many miles on annually so not concerned about premium fuel prices, especially here in the South. Thanks for the outstanding performance ride and video by Lori!
I love everything about the car, the reliability and all however for the price only 400ish horsepower for starting price of $56k I wish they offered more power but it’s beautiful definitely a gem!
This is an amazing car!
@@RaitisRides definitely! I think the price sucks but definitely a gem!
The Launch Edition is 11k more and the markup are typically 10k in my area. Sure each car has a numbered plaque but what else does it have to make it a better performer than the Premium model.
It’s a Lexus what do u expect? Not everyone can afford one
Enkei factory wheels FTW 🔥
Heck yeah!
I watch most of your videos and enjoy all of them BUT … watching and hearing your reaction to driving this IS500 really made me want one too. Keep up the good work
Thanks Jason for being so supportive and letting me share my car passion with you!
Joe looks like you had a lot of fun in that IS 500 f.
Hi Joe! Love this Lexus IS500 F SPORT but I think that it's a dandy and despite the lack of connectivity for the back seats I think it's living up for the brand. If everything was perfect and solid I think cars would quite arguably be boring but I loved it.
I can see you driving this one Luis!
Will you do a video on the new Mercedes-benz EQS please?
@@luiselapostolfeliz2421 I will be getting one soon.
Back seats are for golf clubs anyways
If you do one, can you do a shout-out to me?
Love turbos and superchargers but the sound of a N.A. engine has no comparison.
It never gets old.
That rear end is on fire 🔥
And what is the price difference in equally equiped models?
Always love to see me a v8 Lexus Review. Nice Joe! Would you get this or an RCF if you had the choice?
If I had to do it I would go RCF. I don’t really need 4 doors.
@@RaitisRides just that v8 am I right 😎 🚗💨
This is basically an IS-F that lexus doesn't want to call an IS-F 😅
Same with the GS-F
I've got a 2021 Lexus 300. I LOVE the 500 but I just can't justify having one living in the over populated north east. With all these people when and where would I be able to really enjoy this ride?
Any idea on when this amazing vehicle will hit dealerships?
Exactly u sure dnt see them at the dealerships
Gotta love the Lexus V8
All day long for sure!
I checked this out earlier this year at the Chicago car show. I loved the updated 472 horsepower and the new touchscreen. The IS500 just felt a little bare bones due to the lack of Awd option, no sunroof, and the interior just felt super dated. It’s desperately in need of a heavy refresh.
Sun roof is available for the car! And this is a RWD V8 sports sedan, awd wouldn’t be as fun! This car is made to be rwd!
@@TRD_Nate RWD IS A FOOLS TRAP when you live in a winter city like Chicago!
@@reubenxgotnext Not worth it then, go type S.
Slowww it does 13 flat in the 1/4
@@davidwade7681 and? there is always something faster
Floating iPad is such a good comparison 😂😂. That made me crack up. You ate those curves on that road sooo good. Thank you for this review 🫡
Those Lexus V8 engines are enjoyable to hear and rev. For the ultimate Lexus fanboy, this is one you have to own for sure.
