  • This video shows the basic teardown and cleaning of a Remington Wingmaster 870, 12 gauge shotgun which should do just fine for the occasional shooter to prolong the quality of your gun. If you have gone out more than 20 times I would recommend a full teardown and cleaning.
    Materials used:
    -Moisture displacing lubricant (hopps no.9) keep parts moving and not rusting
    -Gun cleaning solvent, (hopps no.9) dissolves grime, make sure to remove before applying lubricant
    -Wirebrush with correct gauge size (12ga) and rod the length of the barrel.
    -Square cotton cleaning patches
    -Microfiber cloth
    Optional materials:
    -Tooth brush (standard and metal bristols) helps remove buildup
    -Patch pusher
    You should get in the habit of cleaning your gun after every use and before longterm storage. *For prolonged storage use more oil.

    1) You can use bore cleaner (hopps no. 9) on the entire weapon? You have to remove it as best you can before apply oil?
    2) Is it recommended to use CLP or some other non abrasive cleaning agent on the rest of the weapon?

    • @Kuj
      @Kuj  3 года назад

      1.Yes you can you hopps no 9 on the whole gun but I'm using a solvent. remove it before applying oil as it is abbrasive.
      2.I've switched from using hopps to CLP for the entire gun as you do not need to do the 2 steps with it and can leave a coat on the gun without issues. Also CLP is a better chemical makeup so it's less likely to gunk up or jam the gun after sitting.

      @jaimearviso4642 3 года назад

      @@Kuj Thank you for your reply man. That really helps! Just one more question: is there any NO NOS in the gun cleaning common knowledge world? Something similar to not mixing bleach with ammonia? What chemicals should be kept separate from each other?

    • @Kuj
      @Kuj  3 года назад

      @@jaimearviso4642 Glad to help. There really isn't anything like that with gun cleaning chemicals. The harsher cleaning solvents if not wiped-off after use can eat away at the oil you add afterwards making it less effective but that's about it. I would recommend just using CLP as a 2-in-1 for everything and call it a day. The only time to be careful is with some rather old guns that are Nickel plated. Certain cleaners can eat away at the Nickel but it's pretty rare to find any guns with it nowadays.

    • @Kuj
      @Kuj  6 лет назад +1

      That's unfortunate. If it is just topmost layer you may be able to get it off with a normal solvent and protect it a bit with the oil. Possibly find some additional anti rust material to spray on after that as well if it comes off. If it's really deep and the gun is worth it to you you may have to look into refinishing it with a professional.

      @Kuj  4 года назад

      I can be paranoid too. Care to explain how having ammo on the table could be dangerous? I'm having a hard time imagining any situation it could accidentally fire and the shells aren't dangerous even if they fall off.

    • @tomwatson9032
      @tomwatson9032 4 года назад +1

      @@Kuj That's why it's "paranoia"! :-) It's irrational!
      It's beyond unlikely, but I suppose if I were the careless type, I could absent-mindedly start loading the weapon. Beyond unlikely, but I like obsessively watertight safety measures. My day job could be described as "Professional Worrier" which means I sit around and concoct impossible scenarios of hopelessly outlandish strings of unthinkable coincidences lining up. Which they never, ever do. It's a lonely existence.
      Thanks for the video!

      @@tomwatson9032 Haha you're welcome. I've been in your position with the paranoia and as I'm sure you've heard before it's not worth it. The stress and tension made me physically sick. I eventually got over a good portion of it 4 years ago. I used to hear about 3 gunshots a week and we had multiple search helicopters every night in this crappy part of Phoenix I lived in.
      I think the main thing for me was just accepting and taking on risks head-on. Bad things happen but they are not worth ruining your quality of life trying to constantly prevent. We have a survival instinct in us and at times it can take too much control.
      That small sound outside might be a burglar, that could break in and kill me, but is it worth me going outside to check it every time? Make peace with death. I think I just accepted the fact that I could die, that it is fine, and a natural order to life. I sleep like a baby the whole night through ever since.

    You fucked up. Always run your copper brush all the way out each end before changing direction. If you dont thenit will bend the bristles back and forth too much and they willbreakoff slowly

      I've noticed this happen with cheap brushes. I've never had 1 bristle fall out on my better quality brushes I've had for over 10 years.

    I can't believe you had the audacity to name your video how to properly clean a 12 gauge shotgun but you didn't even properly clean it. How about taking out the bolt and trigger assembly you know like actually Field Strip it and clean it you should have named the video how to clean the barrel of a 12 gauge shotgun
