I just bought an Ultra tech right before Christmas. It's a great knife!
I feel you after buying my first microtech I haven’t stopped buying when I can and I still have all of them and only had to repair one which was done quick with their great warranty anyone who buys one will not regret it
Thank you, sir for a great “all-around, general discussion” of the Microtech Ultratech series. Your video was a perfect example of not deep diving into minute details-you gave your general impressions and cleared the mental clutter of “there are SO many choices!” dancing through my tired brain.
I’m picking my Microtech thanks to you, and buying from one of your affiliate links as a humble way to say thank you!
Will never regret my combat troodon amazing steel and quality, used mine for a whole season of landscaping/hardscaping/irrigation work. Still havnt needed to sharpen the blade
I have several microtechs and benchmades, both fixed, and folders, single action, double action otf, just got a Benchmade back after having the blade replaced. I've always been satisfied by either brand. The microtech people are hard to get a hold of though.
I got my Microtech Dirac in bronze AP yesterday & I freaking love it...I've got a Protech Runt 5 in Magnacut coming in the mail tomorrow as well, because you can't have just one. I've never owned an auto before, & now I don't understand how I've lived 47 years without it.
Just bought one. M390 steel. Awesome knife! Thanks for the review. And yes...im like you, i want more microtech's
I came here to see you Baton with a Microtech... get to work
LOL
hell yeah shout out to rivers edge cutlery that’s awesome you mentioned them! i just picked up my esee 4 from them.
I have the UTX 85 tanto edge and I love it. I live in PA where autos are illegal, but I do carry it on a daily bases. As long as you’re smart it’s really not an issue imo.
Man I love the microtech knives. I mean I like my lighting otf but the dream is the knife you have in your hand.
I got bit by the Microtech bug in October. 3 months on I already have 4 and I’m sure I’ll be getting more.
You can still find Lightning knives online- great budget OTFs. I used to own a few.
Just bought my 1st Microtech last week after years of clones, & so glad I did. It's a blue UTX-70 with stonewashed tanto blade. I love it! 😃
John wick uses an ultra tech in the first movie, combat trodoon in chapter 2 and a cypher in chapter 3
I just bought mine today at a pawnshop still in the box never used for $300 I don’t know why but it was different and normally I would never spend that much money on a knife so I did and I love it!!!
I looked at them about 100 times at the gun show. Sold a microtech and bought one similar to yours. Just couldn’t resist.
Good review.
When I pay off my truck,, this is going to be my reward!!!
Hell yeah brother! 2 years later.....didja get it?
Nah. He ended up trading the truck in, is currently making payments on a "new, newer truck" and never actually bought himself the Ultratech because of the constant car payment mortgage. He got reeled in by the dealership.
@@doejon9424 it’s like you new me or something lol
@@snowboarding1984 LOL ! Happens to us all brother ! $300+ for a knife is a lot of paper
Dead on, I didn't need it but I had to have it. For reasons.
Getting another one. Fortunately Austria is cool with autos.
I agree with you 💯% Chris. Thanks for being a voice for knife rights.
I just bought the tanto black on back with the dual thumbslide. It's my first microtech. I do not regret it. I'm in awe everyday I hold it. Mines m390
I had a small OTF knife but it was not a Microtech brand and it was Double Action. I played with and carried it not knowing it may have been illegal because it was about 2 1/2 " blade length and I really liked it until it started failing ,but it's was fare less quality than a Microtech oh and it was given to me by a nice lady as a appreciate gift.
I have a tanto UTX-85 in that color combo. I carry my Ultratech every day though, so I went with a satin plain S/E for the big boy. I'm up to three Microtech OTF's now, my next purchase will be a special edition. If I can find a Stormtrooper Ultratech, I'd snap that up in a second.
I've never owned an OTF, but I sold a knife to a local, he brought a Microtech OTF, it was smooth operating, almost bitten by the bug, He bought my microtech SOCOM delta, man I miss that knife, would love one in 20cv(I sold S30v)
Knifes have been around a long time, and they are still getting refined. Microtech delivers on materials and design, I enjoy the Art of knifes too. OTF for me someday? Probably.
I'd like to start with the larger one, lol
I just picked up an all black Benchmade Phaeton today. Im hooked. The UTX 85 and Guardian Tactical Recon 35 have also caught my eye. saving my pennies haha
Nice to see you finally jumped down the rabbit hole Chris. Welcome to the sickness. LOL BTW, I sent my HALO V in for warranty work and it was probably the easiest, best warranty experience I've ever had from any knife company. They replaced the charging handle with a new Titanium one and didn't even charge for return shipping.
I own an Ultratech as well...love it.One thing I wanted to mention regarding the Kershaw Launch series...I own the Launch 1,6,7 & 8(the larger blade length models)...with an exception of the Launch 6,for side opening autos they are VERY snappy, especially the 8 due to the handle size...Enjoyed your video though, will watch the next
Cool products, and their customer service is second to none! :-)
Finally!!!!!!!!!! Microtech
Rivers Edge Cutlery in Columbus is awesome
I just recently broke down and purchased the Microtech Troodon, was it pricy? You bet. Do I love it? Absolutely!! These are fine professional grade knives, you get what you pay for. Thanks for the video, looking forward to my next microtech. It may be a while but it will happen for sure.
I've carried my ultratech for edc for 2 years now. I value the fact that I can deploy it and retract it with one hand. It has done everything from cutting cardboard to cleaning squirrels and has never failed. I did send it in to Microtech a month ago for sharpening and I couldn't be happier.
What model are you running?
@@irishdixie77 Microtech Ultratech 121-1RD. Red handle with a drop point blade.
@@irishdixie77 I have a red Ultratech with a two tone drop point blade.
I started with the Ultratech, then Troodon, the LUDT, then Socom Elite, the UTX85, then UTX70...those mofos must put crack in those knifes! Love them. I did a SPP review on my channel. Those things rock...
Bought that same Ultratech with the military/first responder discount came to under $200. Can’t beat that for the benchmark of OTF knifes.
Will that discount work for discharged Veterans, or is it for active duty Military?
One of the nice things about living in Alabama is the very relaxed knife laws. Infact I own autos, switch blades and stiletto knives along with all my fixed blades. The law here states you can't carry either a butcher or a hunting style knife concealed, they have to be open carried. Every other types of blade are totally legal to carry. And the firearms laws are also very relaxed in comparison to other states. And yes there are a hell of a lot of gun owners in Alabama! 🙂
Slightly removed, but connected. I've just got myself a Schrade F36, and , just found out that you had a heavy input. I think you've done a great job . My F36 is now my main kit knife .
I had nothing to do with the worst traction coating in existence.
@@preparedmind101 lol , yeah , I watched your review with Will , this is the only knife I own that I'd happily beat on, in confidence, ,the coating does not extract from a very good tool. Good job Chris .
Welcome to the family. I have an addiction. Its called Microtech OTF's. Get ready your Ultratech is just the first stage to your addiction. Glad to see one in your hands.
A MT is definitely on my must have list. 👍👍
I just bought the ultratech 121 drop point black coated blade with the red aluminum. I have a red LUDT in red. Hopefully the ultratech is here Saturday
My only MicroTech, thus far, is the smaller UTX-85 single-edge tactical, blacked-out, partially serrated drop point. It’s larger than the tiny UTX-70 you showed in this video but smaller than your UltraTech. It’s def a fun fidget toy. I just wish the skinny blade didn’t remind me so much of a pen knife.
First Quality blade I purchased was a Spyderco Caribbean LC200N, second: Spyderco Kapara, third: Microtech Combat Troodon!
Then went on a run of 80 Spyderco's and waiting for my Ultratech to show up Monday!
I Love Mine ,all black. Its like owning a cool bike! Fun to share !
I own 1 Microtech and it's a fixed blade. Check out the "Crosshair". That blade is ferocious!
I have two Microtechs, I love them both.
Just got one of these for my wife. Sending it to Microtech for warranty. It is crazy stiff to deploy, and even harder to retract, sometimes needing both thumbs. My wife can’t use it.
I’ve had one before. It was nothing like the new one. Deployment was easy.
Lov'n the honest review
my cousin has one and he's not a knife person like me. he showed me on Christmas and I nearly craped my self. like seeing a unicorn in real life and being able to touch it!
My home state of Georgia will allow auto opening knives now. I don’t have a Microtech yet though. Closest I have is a Protech TR-4. Only knife I’ve managed to cut myself multiple times with.
D2 tool steel is hard to beat brother, Its actually tool steel and that means people do machining with this material, using it to cut other steel material they are machining. I can't believe what people are using for knives nowdays. for future referance you might want to favor knives with tool steel, D2 in particular. that being said , I don't know anything else about the benchmade. Your helping me here I appreciate:)
D2 is a midrange steel for knives
Not even close to the best but pretty good
Also it all depends on the knive and knive style, how big it is
What it will be used for and so forth
I made a video on OTF knives and the microtech made it to #1 on my testing too. And you’re right. Once you get one, you’ll get more. I have 3, ran out of money, so I found a place that does layaway. That’s how bad I need to have them!
@PREPAREDMIND101 I just bought one from DLT, Amazing Company and selection of Ultratechs. I got the
Microtech 123-10APOD Ultratech T/E - Green Handle - Contoured - Apocalyptic Blade
Thanks Chris!!
Yes ! Back to knives, way to start 2019! Jessica list all the way!
Just picked up a couple of these badboys. A black one with D/E serrated elmax, and red one with T/E m390! They are super stiff but nice knives for sure. Im Leo, so carrying is ok for me. I think I will get one for my brother who is a firefighter.
Yeah I finally got one. I love it. Despite having to open it and fix it within the first 24 hrs. My edge wasn’t as sharp as it could be
I just bought an ultratech and a utx70 from dlt today. So obviously haven't received them yet. The utx i bought was just the utility drop point satin finish because i do want to carry it. It's small and not menacing looking. Like you said, not causing problems? Probably not going to be a problem. The ultratech i bought on the other hand looks the part. Black tanto partially serrated. Can't wait to get my hands on them!
Ever get a halo or troodon? Would love to see some more reviews. I recently got an Exocet, love that thing. Might be my favorite microtech
I had a cypher little too stiff on the deployment for my liking so I sold it
Ive got the ut-b and i friggin love it. Greatest fidget toy ever. Lol
🎶Have several I have collected over the years. I like them all. The Combat Troodon Rock! The downside is they are so expensive...but they are so awesome and American made😂🎵.
I live in Kentucky which has confusing knife laws. I can own it in home no problem. Beyond that I’m still not sure. But like you. I wanted one! Got the ultratech . Such cool blade. I think I might be able to open carry, but it’s confusing. If not have it at home. Or carry in woods lol.
My brother is a big fan of micro tech , he has the Halo. They are the best ! Very nice !
THANKS FOR SHARING HELPFUL VIDEO !
APPRECIATE!
Pa just finally changed laws so will have to check these out after it goes in effect
I am wanting one of these and the Gaurdian Tactical recon...
Owning a Microtech is on my knife collecting bucket list. I wish they didn't have the glass breakers, though. The back very uncomfortable to cap the knife with your thumb un reverse grip. You're right though. I've handled two MTs and the action is snappy and smooth enough to produce a 'knifegasm."
They changed it not the sharp pointy one any more it's a round ball baring type
I'm buying all of the Microtech Knives you mentioned sometime this year. I bought the Combat Troodon and I need at least 3 more too. 😲 Hey, this is the first time you didn't cost me money watching your video. I bought first and then looked for videos. Hmm? 🤔
I enjoyed the video & agree, sometimes u get a knife just because it's fun or looks grt. Enjoy
I carry the Microtech Troodon as backup on my ankle. Primary is the large Espada by Cold Steel.
Hahaha you're sure ready for a knives fight!
@@DvBattlegears yeah, you know the saying : 'Better safe then sorry'. Depending where I go I usually carry up to 5 knives in strategic positions plus an armored vest. Most knife attacks are fast and sneaky, not giving you enough time to react. I am trained in Israeli Haganah knife combat but any form of martial art is kind ot worthless in a street fight/attack.

@@semperparatus5942 BS if you never served, idiot.
GREAT INTRO!! As soon as I posted mine I was slammed with all the comments about how great all the other knives are and how I overpaid for a brand name. Nothing could be further from the truth. I got the ultratech with the blade qualities I needed for everyday carry and I am never going back. The only people who overpaid are those who bought lesser knives for less money and are satisfied with their knife that is not as nice as a Microtech!
Hey Chris. The legal difference between the Kershaw type auto knife or assisted opener and the Microtech auto opener is not in the wayit opens...it is in the blade!!If you notice, the Microtech has a hidden blade, whereas the Kershaw has a visible one.Bing!! the lightbulb just go off. That is why they are illegal. It,s like conceiled carry.
Wick used an Ultratech in the first movie in the club scene. It had a dagger blade and I believe all three Microtechs he used in the first 3 films (Ultratech, Troodon, Cypher) had the dagger blade. Akira in JW4 uses what might be an Ultratech with a tanto blade and she has an amazing scene with it. Sadly, it seems like Wick never uses an OTF in 4. Though they marketed a Hawk Deadlock Model C (not a Microtech) as his new OTF, it only shows up sitting in a gun case and is not clearly seen. And the Deadlocks are hard to get custom knives between $1,500 and $3000! According to one youtube knife reviewer there were other scenes with the Deadlock that got cut.
Yeah this is a slippery slope... I went from an 85 to a ultratech dagger to now the signature series ultratechs in black with bronze hardware and blade Spartan and Hellhound lol luckily I can carry them in my state
Brother. 1 year later how do you feel about your purchase of this knife? How did you like the ELMAX?
My ultratech is the older, more boxy shaped handle style. I will warn you that over time you’ll have to take them apart every once in awhile to reset the insides when they jam on you.. on the plus side, mine will only get stuck in the blade out position.
Chris I agree with you on all points I just wanna add that back in the day (you probably remember) they used to call them belly punchers or stilettos. I feel what sets them apart from a auto folder both legally and as a weapon is one can place the tip up to another’s belly/torso (while concealed in hand) protrude then retract the blade causing harm. It won’t work with a folder. I’m not trying to disrespect you at all, I think you’re awesome I always watch your channel and always will. It’s an incredibly awesome piece of craftsmanship to perfect that specific action in the knife industry. Now I want one but I gotta move out of NY.
It won't punch through, it has a safety feature where the blade comes out of the carriage.
lucidtraveler , just to confirm, so there’s no possibility of the knife opening into someone’s face or belly because they have a safety feature? I honestly didn’t know about that I’ve never researched the company but the blade appears mighty impressive.
It will deploy but as soon as it encounters resistance it goes limp. It will cause some damage (depending where) but it will not punch through forcefully, it bounces back.
lucidtraveler, thank you for telling me about that. I always thought that they were forceful in deployment but now I know.
I know I’m way behind on this video, but so glad Ohio had changed their laws on knives!
i love Microtech knives. I have a Microtech LUDT.
Doesn’t the joker use one in the dark knight when he’s about to tell how he got his scars stories?
Yes he does use a Microtech auto. He uses multiple otfs actually
When he kills gamble, that is a microtech combat troodon I believe
Yeah I always wanted one. Someday I will pull the trigger.
Hey Chris ,
What do you think would make a better EDC the Ultratech or the Combat Troodon ??
" So many choices !!"
The button on the Cypher is Very aggressive. It tore up my thumb.
Try the MAKORA when they become available.
I have maybe 4 or 5 Microtech knives on my list the stitch, halo 5, they have one that kinda looks like a curved persian blade , there special boba Fett model and a ultratech
Very sweet!
I live in Ohio and have a Ultratech Tri-grip. From my understanding with them is they are only illegal to conceal carry because in the state it is illegal to conceal carry a deadly weapon. So they are technically legal to open carry.
Ended up with a blackout dagger on my venture for a stitch last night. Most money I’ve ever spent on a blade. If the world goes to shit, at least I finally got a microtech lol. We shall see if I can put it down 🤷♂️
I finally bit the bullet too. It is something special.
Good review. I recently have become awa re of this brand my initial thoughts that this is a life-saving device especially if one hand or arm has been incapacitated. The laws restricting the possession of these and carrying of them is complete nonsense. I must now own one! LOL I wish I had the money but please continue to do other informative videos about this brand on different models such scarce availability of what you can and can get
1 turns into 7 ....love the dagger blade and drop point blades. So they are not allowed in Ohio ? Thanks for sharing
Nice one but I really do believe you should own a Guardian Tactical Recon. It´s an OTF beast. Happy New Year, congratulations to your beautiful new knife and many greetings from Germany.
I learned about it yesterday. Definitely tops the want list.
i´m looking forward to the review
Protech knives are really popular as well.
I'm cool with both. Your channel bud.
In Indiana, totally legal to own and carry. The only knives you can't carry in Indiana are throwing stars, butterfly knives (emergency rooms were busy with self inflected wounds) and blades that eject from the handle. Unless there is a specific local ordinance you can literally walk around with a sword here in Indiana.
I’m a huge SOCOM Elite lover!
I got a purple collectable version with marked s35vn
I don’t think stuff like this should be illegal if the government can have it we should be Abel to as well, if the bad guys can get it wtf can’t we!
That does look cool.
super knifes my 1st auto ever was a micro tech cant go wrong them
I know this is it older video but I want to add that the snap of the knife blade is like the rack of a shotgun
LMFAO! “I guess people just like to take stuff apart”
My John Wick isn't an Innie, My John Wick is definitely an Outie. There is no inner John Wick in this meat bag.
I just bought a microtech for myself as a graduation gift I promised myself It will be my only knife but I already want another one the quality on these knifes are amazing might buy a microtech Dirac soon
