You are just awesome. I went in to get car inspected and thought I was going to have to buy a switch motor. I don't know what they did, but my signal lights did not work when he sent me away with a passed inspection. The hazards still work and I can find the screws to get to that part easier. You just eased my restful sleep tonight. Thank you.
I was going crazy diagnosing my turn signal problem until I saw the part in the video where there was hack wiring. I checked the trailer harness wiring and quick splice connectors were used and the wire to the rear turn signal had broke off. You saved me many of hours of troubleshooting. Thank you!
Dave, obviously I hope the customer understood it was a separate repair. Good video and thanks for walking us through the wiring schematic. Thanks Dave ❤️
My brother that video was super comprehensive and you are hilarious! I'm trying to add a load equalizer to my 2000 Toyota Avalon XLS and I was researching how to do it and came across your video. The second I saw you pull out a wiring diagram, I knew class was in session! Thank you for taking the time to make this professional troubleshooting/repair video. Wow, BigDog you saved my bacon. Thank you so much, your diagrams & explanation helped me to track down a short in the taillight & trunk of our 2011 Sienna. You are a lifesaver, thank you again “Professor Big Dog”!
Nice explanation. It's so easy to understand. I couldn't explain it any better. Finally solved my corolla's problem with the turn signal that has only one side that works. Thanks!
thanks for the extremely thorough yet easily understandable explanation of the steps needed to prevent just random part swapping. I had this exact issue in my 2006 4runner...well aside from the goofy wire tap. I was going to go straight to swapping the flasher when it was just a bulb.
Thanks for your help! This video is so methodical. In my situation, I ended up replacing the 15 amp HAZ fuse in the engine bay. My turning signals are now back up and running. Thanks!!
You're a good teacher, great communication. Thank you. My issue is the turn signals don't work, but when I turn the hazard lights on all of the lights come on. :)
work smarter not harder💁 about to start trouble shooting on my 06 tacoma. Non of the turn signals work cause it keeps blowing the fuse. Definitely using your tips & tricks and least invasive way to get it figured out😉. Amazing video btw!

Definitely subscribed to your World. Oh, I bet you found the same condition on the other side too, like maybe someone was trying to pull off a temporary trailer light set up or something.
The turn signals and hazards on my 2001 Corolla stopped working after I replaced the RF turn signal bulb. I was at my wit's end on how to figure out the problem, and I did not want to pay my mechanic $120+ to diagnose and fix what I knew had to be a relatively cheap fix. I watched several Corolla specific videos which were of no real help before I stumbled upon this video. The Sienna here was exhibiting almost identical symptoms as my Corolla when the turn signals failed. After watching this video I was able to step-by-step diagnose the issue on my Corolla and, more importantly, fix the problem! In my case I evidently caused a short in the RF turn signal bulb socket which in turn blew the turn signal and hazard fuses. I disconnected the socket, replaced the fuses, and voila, the signals were working again (other than the right side flashing quickly as there was no front bulb). Replaced the plug and bulb (I actually replaced the entire turn signal assembly as the glass was cracked on it anyway) and everything works perfectly again. THANK YOU so much for creating this clear and concise video detailing how to diagnose and fix this problem. Even though it was for a different model, it helped me out tremendously!
Very useful video, I am studying automotive electricity, I hope you have many videos about automotive electricity. thank you very much. i am from vietnam
Dave, had the same problem. No turn signals, no hazard. Checked the hazard fuse ,it's ok, checked the turn fuse, it's ok. Checked all bulbs front and back, 1 bulb out. It's a small one from the right rear. No broken wires in any of the lights. I have a 2000 camry le 4cyl. I'll replace the bulb tomorrow. Will let you know. Great video ! Thanks. Hope it's not the flasher..... Nino
@@BigDog50001 Hi Dave , yes I did. It was the relay. It was behind the kick panel on the driver's side. You have to look up a little to see it. I put in an after market relay, ( cheaper than Toyota), it works fine, but you hear no tick when the light flashes. I went thru everything before I checked the relay. Your video is a good way to track the issue down. Thanks
Thanks dude, was pulling my hair out. Ripped apart the old relay as I was removing it because I have the hyperflash with leds, but it shorted. Put the new one on and nothing, checked both fuses and they looked fine, but I should've started with the test light, would've saved me the headache. Ended up being the hazard fuse under the hood and working good now.
Thank you for sharing this troubleshooting video. We have a similar issue. We just installed new headlights so maybe we have a ground condition with one of the plugs so I'll double check that. It's a 2009 Toyota RAV4 limited with the turn signals also in the mirrors.
This is an amazing high quality video troubleshooting step by step and arrived at awesome result at the end. I am struggling with similar problem on a similar vehicle 2007 Toyota Sienna AWD. Hazardous light is working flawlessly all the time but the turn signals are not working and the battery indicator at the time of ignition is not showing either. Up on investigation 15 amp hazardous fuse is fine but 10 amp GUAGE1 (under the dash) fuse is blown up on just turning on the ignition without starting. I disconnected all four indicator lights (front and back) and put the ignition on, 10 amp GAUGE1 blown again. I checked the wiring under the dash dash fuse box and the console wiring and it seems to be intact. In another test, put a new 10 amp fuse and turn the ignition on, the battery indicator and turn signal worked fine however when the key tuned to start position and started the car the indicator light stop working and the fuse is blown again. Bottom line sometime the 10 amp GUAGE1 fuse is blown when the ignition is turned on and some other time when the ignition is in the start position fuse is getting blown. Both cases engine starts fine. Any recommendations to test would be greatly appreciated.
@ Still not found the root cause, the problem is intermittent happens once in a while. only thing consistent is that i notice headlight blinking slightly once every time after you start and move the car a block of distance.
Hey Dave thank you so much for sharing your knowledge, I’ve learned a lot from you and now I am subscribed to your channel, I want to learn more you. Thank you and see in the next video
Great video. My right blinker light on the dash does not blink, the hazards only left works. All other outside lights work fine. What would cause this to happen? There are no bulbs in the dash.
Great video, just for others watching, if you have trailer light plugs on your car that is another possible short location thats where my short was. Thanks for the vid

Hi I recently ran into a problem on my 2002 Toyota celica I went to turn on my turn signals and got nothing no lights on the dash blinking or signals working. My hazard lights will turn on and work no problem I tried swapping the fuse and the relay for it and still no fix do you have any other ideas as to what it could be? Thank you
Thanks for the video, I'll check the fuse and and the rear light to just make sure. Would have to go to a technician to fix the wiring if the wire aren't done right
I had a similar issue on one of these same vintage Siennas where the brake lights would blow the fuse but not all the time. Took me a while but finally tracked it down to bad aftermarket tail light socket/housings. Try telling someone they need to buy two new tail lights when the old ones look just fine. Two used OEM tail lights fixed the problem, though.
My car has the same thing now I need to find the wire that's grounding. My battery drains every time I turn it off. You think that's the cause of it? Same problem with the fuse blowing only on one side. Thanks
I've got an 06 Toyota 4 runner with the left rear turn signal out. The front left is working. I switched the socket and bulb from left to right side and the left works on the right side. Any suggestions to help. I've been trying to figure this out for one year with not luck. Thanks, Dave
Interesting video. I am having a similar issue. The right blinker does not work at all. Outside right front and back turn signals flash fine. Pulled instrument panel and it’s circuit board with no bulbs. Do you have any suggestions as I think it might be a ground as well versus a dash issue. The hazards have the left blink only but all outside work fine. Hummm
Good day, I recently ran into a similar issue with by 2022 Can Am Spyder RT Sea to Sky. It started out with right turn signal malfunction, then daytime running lights. I replaced the 15amp fuse for daytime running lights and the right turn signal would flash all lights. The fuse failed again. Now it blows as soon as I turn on the bike. I noticed the fuse I used on the 3rd and fourth attempt that failed immediately was not the same as the original brand so I purchased a hand full of the original type. What do you think the issue is ? I am somewhat trepidatious about trying again for fear of causing any damage.....your insight would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. My blinkers and hazards dont work at all. Could it be the flasher relay or a broken blinker handle? I watched your video and it is extremely helpful. My car was broken into and ransacked. The radio was ripped out and now the blinkers do not work. I dont think they are related but more info the better. The thief's could have yanked or broken the handle during the crime. My solution was very simple. I had neglected to turn off the hazard flashers before turning the car off, thus neither signals nor the hazard flashers worked once the car was restarted. Once I made sure that the hazard button was no longer pressed, all flashers were fine.
Got similar problem now. Left side turn signal flashes once. Thats it. No fuses blown. Disconnected all turn signals. Found no obvious short to ground. Any idea whats going on?

I replaced all my turn signals front and rear in my 2010 corolla with LEDS. Put a new flasher relay and so it isn’t hyper blinking. Worked for about a month but I have lost my right turn signal. Checked my fuses didn’t look blown so I put a 20 in. Stopped working but now everything including hazards are working. Only thing not working is my right turn signal. Left works, hazards etc. Any ideas on what it could be? Do I need a higher fuse? Never had any issues before I replaced bulbs and flasher relay. Also my cruise control will not turn on.
The same thing happened to me but a quack electrician just opened under the steering wheel and changed I think the flasher but whatever is going on is still the same, the left trafficator light doesn't come up all the time and the hazard light doesn't come up at all too Please should I try it out just like yours though yours us the right side
What about a 04 turn signal toy sienna xle limited still clicking after the turn is made? Drives me nuts! Sometimes if you turn the van off it stops. Thx
Toyota sienna 2001 turn signals and hazard lights not working replaced fuses it worked, but now not working again what could be the fault you response will be highly appreciated thanks

Yes, left needed attention too for the trailer flashers tat used to be wired in there.
Definitely an existing issue!
Nice,smooth diagnostics....
Thank you for the comment!
Hi ,thank you for the video and your knoledge.
Is the same diagramm for the Toyota Hi-Lux 2009 ? If is possible can you send the wiring diagramm ?
Got similar problem now. Left side turn signal flashes once. Thats it. No fuses blown. Disconnected all turn signals. Found no obvious short to ground. Any idea whats going on?

Dang it I need to know how to locate and change the blinker relay. Any help with a link?
This helped me out a lot
Thank you very much
Glad it was helpful, thank you for the comment!
The same thing happened to me but a quack electrician just opened under the steering wheel and changed I think the flasher but whatever is going on is still the same, the left trafficator light doesn't come up all the time and the hazard light doesn't come up at all too
Please should I try it out just like yours though yours us the right side
What about a 04 turn signal toy sienna xle limited still clicking after the turn is made? Drives me nuts! Sometimes if you turn the van off it stops. Thx
