I'm genuinely surprised that the Realtek drivers were causing issues. Those usually never change! I've managed to run drivers intended for Windows 10 for a computer from 2019 on an installation of Windows 7 after tampering with the driver INF files, and aside from the occasional issues it ran pretty decently.

Yes, it kept crashing with portcls.sys on 2000 and XP, and all the solutions I found online just said "use the drivers included with your computer". So I googled harder and found those SoundMax drivers on DriverGuide.

This is my current PC (I am typing this comment from here). I installed Debian12 and I can tell you I usually forget it is a 20 year old PC. Still great for office tasks, programming, watching videos on RUclips or even using some 3D applications. Still great, at its time a total beast.

What Windows 98 CD did you use in the video? Can you provide an .iso image for it?

This unofficial 10th anniversary CD: archive.org/details/windows-98.-ubcd.-feb.-2008.sharethefiles.com (It includes a PDF file with more information)

Mi sento come se stessi facendo tante domande e dovessi fermarmi ma hai provato Vista su questo computer? Mi stavo solo chiedendo.

Please don't use Google Translate, it's more difficult to read. Anyway the answer is no.

Please Upgrade & make a new video. A processor uppgrade more ram 4gb is probably the max the mobo will take, bigger hd at least 500gb (far too easy to run out of space) or ssd newer video card (I've used up to 2gb cards in systems around that age).

This computer's motherboard (MS-9162 with Intel 955X chipset) has LGA 775 socket, but it only supports Pentium 4 or Pentium D, so a CPU upgrade isn't worth it.
Maybe I'll upgrade the RAM, install an SSD and try a modern OS again, but it's not a high priority because this older PC works better with older software. Also I need to fix the fan first.

I selected Nvidia drivers while installing with archinstall. Was I not supposed to select them? If modern Linux doesn't support this older Nvidia, that's not good
