Hahaha, you guys just went to our collective art exhibition night !
Usually we find original places like here (the last time was an abandoned prison) and ask for local authorizations.
Then we organize special events and night(s) with artists and art students exhibiting their work all kind of different domains : visual art installations, videos, performances, conferences, sound & music ... It's all contemporary art, and everyone is free to come and enter. Pro tip : Next time you meet some rude people like the woman, just say you're doing an "ART PERFORMANCE" and they'll leave you alone and free to do whatever you want. 😉

Technically speaking this whole channel is a sort of art, right?
An appreciation of lifeless places, abandoned by humanity and left to rot or crumble.
It’s sort of reminiscent of a world without humanity, which can create a sense of dread, fear or even tranquility. As life does tend to cease meaning without the feeling of fear and the experience of suffering and loneliness.
But in this case, the building has life breathing into it, something that is quite unexpected in the midst of decay.
It’s all sort of poetic, doubly-so due to the group being artists seeking inspiration and refuge amidst this place of solitude.

So if someone approaches me like this, I could theoretically fart softly in their face & claim that I am doing performance art? Technically speaking the whole fart is a sort of art, right? An appreciation of gas that would be waisted, but can be appreciate by those near me & many others instead of left alone in dead air.
It’s sort of an appreciation of that proverbial gas which created this world from nothing & again will return to nothing. Is that release of gas a sense of dread or tranquility? That proverbial loneliness at the thought of all the farts we have alone that will be reminiscent of the one final last fart as we draw our last breathe & we turn to nothing. Both farts cease to have meaning without the smell of them & with the experience of stomach cramps & aches.
But In this case, this fart has a sense of something coming at the end of it, something that may came unexpected out of this hole of decay. It’s very poetic, thricely so due to the group of all the other artists who also seek refuge, solace, & enjoyment in smelling their own farts.

I guess this is like an unexpected meeting of two worlds of thought. The people who set their event up at an abandoned building probably didn't even consider that someone might independently come and explore the place at the same time. The people who "kicked you out" were probably ones who helped set up the event in the theater room. No strict staff or security because the place is abandoned and they are all volunteers. If you had ended up chatting more, they might have seen you as an artist too and you might have made new friends.

Looks like a shitty artist loft building where artists would pay to use the space for whatever they want (most end up working on their art so often they live in the space) and its just a giant open floor plan first come first serve in terms of space they get. Maybe there is no payment, but I know people who lived in places like this in a few major cities in the US. Usually the walls are covered in art and there are random exhibitions all over the place like in this building. Sometimes places like this fall apart due to the artists never making money, but most cases it is cheap to live there from what I know (usually owners work in some type of art themselves so they attempt to give artists space to do freely as they choose no limits). Many times that leads to it being over run by homeless people due to the amount of random people who can come in and out. Pretty cool nonetheless!

It's a former communist building in Riga that stood unused for several years, before artist Arnis Ritups decided to open some workshops and art spaces there. It was an official rent at the time of filming. So yeah, kinda like loft/squat, but with papers. From what I know, now it's being reconstructed.

This reminds me a lot of an old apartment building an old friend lived in in Atlanta about 20 years ago. It was abandoned but a bunch of georgia tech students were basically squatting there. They had somehow bootlegged power for the whole building (theyre elite level engineering students) and were living in the top floor loft apartments. A lot of the lower level apartments had been turned into various things like an insane gaming room, one "rave room" which was a large room that i guess was formerly a lounge for tenants which had been rigged with a professional quality sound system and pretty much everything else youd find at a dance club, a computer lab for school worki guess bc they all had their own pcs, a roof terrace with an insane view and on and on with others ive forgotten.. It was dope as hell but in a very sketchy area but of course they had cameras and alarms set up for that lol. I guess the building owners were absentee and had no idea. It was literally like something you'd see in a 2000s era college movie. From what I remember it had been going a couple years but i highly doubt its still around. I just wish I could remember where it was but ive long since lost touch with that friend and he hasnt been on social media since MySpace. Owell maybe one day ill reconnect with him.
