The military area was a civil prison from 1860 and became military prison after 1950. Since then the territory has always been controlled by military but there is actually no one, like another fortress nearby. Sometime they use the area and the coast outside the prison for trainings of “guardia costiera”.
Island Palmaria in front of Porto Venere. Is possible to visit it a part from the military area, if they catch you there is not the best. The part of the cave is beautiful but there’s a lot of very dangerous spots.
I’ve never been to anything outside of America and Mexico. When I went to Gettysburg and Valley Forge, you could feel the energy there from the craziness of the Civil War. Can you feel those vibes in WWI-WWII places?
