For those non-Italians who are curious about the story behind it: Poveglia is one of the many islands located in the Laguna Veneta. Its history is very ancient, just like pretty much every other island that was once part of the powerful Venetian Republic during the middle ages and even after. In the early 2000s Poveglia strangely reached a good amount of popularity in the US due to the spreading over there of many creepy stories, all allegedly set in its old abandoned buildings. As someone who lives not to too far from there, all these stories have always been so fascinating, but unfortunately, are based only on convenient hoaxes invented by foreigners that loved to over-romanticize on what is simply one of the abandoned islands of the lagoon.
In case someone wants some more context, the island was indeed used as a quarantine zone, hundreds and hundreds of years ago, and it may in fact have to this day some corps buried on its grounds, but way fewer than what many foreigners think, as the officially documented number of people who perished on the island, might be something like 20, while the so called "asylum" was simply a rest-home for old people, and spoiler alert: it was a very normal place with no crazy doctors or evil spirits inside 😅

    According to Wikipedia:
The first mention of the island is in a book from 421, it was used as a place to escape barbarian invasions.
The residents of the island moved to Giudecca in 1379 when Venice was attacked by Genoa.
The octagonal portion of the island is a result of the Venetian government building forts to defend Venice around 1645, four of the five built remain.
In 1776 it became a check point for goods and people entering Venice.
In 1793 it temporarily became a quarantine station because of two ships that carried the plague, taking that role on permanently in 1805 till 1814.
In 1922 it was converted into an asylum for the mentally ill, later becoming a nursing home and closing in 1968.
It remains abandoned till this day.

this island is basically one big graveyard. so many bodies were dumped here that something like half the soil is from decomposed body tissue. they just piled them as high as possible on the islans to keep the mainland from infection

I thought this island looked familiar. It was featured on Ghost adventures! Pretty sick to see more of it

@ 8:57 as your saying “just going to enjoy this moment” I’m pretty sure you captured an EVP. The audio of you becomes muffled and I hear what sounds like a woman’s muffled voice say something. Anybody else notice this? Could easily be audio malfunction but if any other ghost believers out there hear it lemme know!
