Not surprised the 136 is Catford's busiest route, the old 36B was its last crew Routemaster route, even though Catford only ever worked it in its last few years. Crews loved a 'turn' at Harrow Road, Prince of Wales because they could often sneak into Westbourne Park garage (X) and its canteen.
Nice One - A good mentor who is experienced and calm is essential for new drivers as they hate the shouty sort of control freak people and that does not help them develop their skills
Love your vids , one job i wish I went for but sadly I guess I'm too old now lol .. My Dad was a London bus Driver out of NX from 1968 to 85, and he loved it .. He was a bus conductor before then
Here in West Yorkshire if you announce you're on a diversion, they don't listen to you. They don't even look at you when they get on the bus. After you announce that there's a diversion then you go on it they all shout "YOU'RE GOING THE WRONG WAY"
Aw, brother, I’m from South Yorkshire and I’m a Stagecoach bus driver here and once we got diverted due to a murder scene on the route between Barnsley and Wakefield and we had to like avoid a whole area which added so much time, the amount of annoyed passengers I had was mad!
@@Ryanp194 exactly, I remember once the driver made an announcement in London with a very thick Scottish 🏴 accent, I didn’t understand a single word.
I remember when I passed my driving test and I had this safety trainer at depot and he had a vendetta against me and never let me drive the bus (as we were part of a group) then he sent me back to the training school. They were annoyed and told me I was more than capable of driving so I complained to the manager and the next day I was sent out with a mentor and then out on my own the day after.
From what I remember, the route variant option is so the driver can manually set a destination (like a curtailment or turning point) instead of the iBus controller sending it to the driver.
Well I usually se it if one pice of info is wrong when loading details into ETM but for some reason it come up form time to time, but disappears when the bus is running.
When I started I was mentioured for only a day then boom thrown in a deep end 😂, I've learned everything not the easy way to be honest, thankfully everything is ok now.
He’s had the wipers running that long on the dry glass with the blowers on that the wiper blade rubbers have melted to the glass 😂 Did you not think about turning the wipers off either 🤔
You'll notice that London Underground still has 'drivers' on fully automatic trains, even the DLR have onboard staff to both drive in emergencies and at certain other times, so it's a bit alarmist to say it's no longer feasible to consider bus driving as a career.

Same here in London mate. English isn’t the first language in parts of London now

@@awolwakefieldyorkshire In London people are too busy with their mobile devices, no one actually listen until they are lost.

I had learnt two routes and was given a single day of action drive/mentoring for each one. Never heard of being given a whole week until now

Hope they'll get used of this hard course when it gets tough tho. Gotta get used of it as well 😊

Why don't you have the heaters on in the bus?
Drivers don’t have control over saloon heaters it’s automated.
@Wetthewhistle thank you for the information

not a good career for young people... self driving vehicles are inevitable in the future.
