@@-JohnSmith-the one good thing about the floatwheel is the bumper will be a easier to produce compared to a gt bumper. Same front and back and it doesn’t slide into a groove just screws in.

Got to meet Kyle Hanson and watch Bodhi's amazing trick sesh. Bought Flight Fins there and installed them immediately (I think I even payed less in person than online). They are a game changer to be able to manipulate your board using the top off your foot as well. When I jump on my other board that doesn't have them, let's just say I ride more conservative. My CBXR with Flight Fins, Varials, Kush Wide, Bangs, and nose tilt... forget about it... It's like driving a sports car. I have no choice but to go fast and somewhat aggressive. To me... that's when you get locked into that "in-the-zone" flow state.
Great ride! How fast do people generally go on trails?
Depends on the trail and how we're riding. Here we're mostly cruising probably 15-ish or less in the chunk, but for racing nowadays, speeds of 20-30mph aren't that uncommon if the trails allow for it (bit hard to carry speed into twists and turns)

VESC is more of a DIY style Onewheel. The only off the shelf VESC based board currently is the Floatwheel ADV

So happy to see competition for FM. Love the product, hate the company (talking about Onewheel/FM). I would love to see them get stomped and go out of business.
I do enjoy those footpads - much less concave & no pressure points on my feet. When I’m riding my gt in some shoes the footpads poke into my feet. I have my concave with my dubs because I like the locked in feeling and flat kicks on standard.
Less of an issue for sure, but after some long riding and some drops, it's definitely still got a bit of that edge to it haha. Would love to see a urethane footpad for it. But I'll still take the stock footpads, can definitely work with them

What's up with the woods? All dead? Those trees look sad and Nico hurting himself every couple of minutes made me anxious.
Massive wildfire a couple years ago took the trails out pretty bad, lots of rebuilding since but can't do much about the dead trees. Was absolutely beautiful before

@@jondough9651it’s very easy. I’ve never had onewheel and was able to assemble Floatwheel within 30 minutes. Setup is also easy.
Nico great rider 👌🏽 But once again we got a floatwheel board that needs just as many modifications as any other board…. I don’t trust the company to be able to run remotely close to Onewheel. Decent power in it and I’d say it definitely beats out the other boards including the Trot, but what we got is what we got. Enthusiasts will use the parts, a small group will ride it as is, but Onewheel still dominates the market. There’s nothing that this guy created that onewheel isn’t capable of doing. But everyone said it was mainly about motivating onewheel than anything.
Onewheel is capable of doing a lot of things. They're also capable of creating a 6.5" hub that nerfs their own product 😅 Out of the box, the ride of the Floatwheel is still pretty damn nice, and with a simple tire change, it rides significantly better than the vast majority of even heavily modded GT's out there IMO, for the fraction of the cost of an FM Onewheel. I'd say that's pretty damn competitive.
Would I prefer to see these improvements over the GT on an actual FM board? Absolutely. There's a lot of moral gray-area surrounding the Floatwheel that I'm not the biggest fan of, but at the end of the day, the biggest thing stifling innovation from FM has been the lack of competition that they've forced into the space, and this board finally brings some pressure into the mix.
At an enthusiast level, aftermarket parts and tricking out boards will always be a thing, that's present with any hobby and is far from a bad thing. But there's a lot FM can do to improve the ride quality and even safety of their boards moving forward that makes sense for all consumers and should be present on the board from the start. I know they're aware of that, I know they see that, I can only hope they actually act on that and focus a bit more on improvements and innovations in the future rather than control and proprietization.
@@nicoaleman Has it been a lack of competition, or is that just the narrative that started a while ago? Maybe Kyle is just in his lane creating things he enjoys and doing his best to make it safe and keep it from being pirated. Many and most of us who have any business skills would do the exact same. At the end of the day I stand with onewheel. They are the ones who introduced me to the best hobby of my life and the ones putting in the work to keep it going. Sure they charge more than some people have the means for but they have every right to do it as well. I don’t really care that much about that. Lets not forget how many people tell us how futuristic these boards are. It’s impressive tech. Sometimes I think we need to recheck the narrative we’re creating. I’ve stood back and watched people turn on FM like wolves just because they’re enthusiasts and even tho they are in no way outsmarting FM, they think they know it ALL.
But this is no surprise, really. This happens with just about anything out there. There will be a select few who will take anything and find reasons to turn against it, and turn others away. Especially when there is opportunity for money 💰 or popularity 📈
I believe FM is still the most quality, reliable, and enjoyable board on the market today, that is capable of sustaining our needs. Instead of turning my back on them, I simply understand that big changes take time. Part of the community is crazy hungry and eventually I trust they’ll have something to even satisfy the hyper board nerds. But for now, myself and 85% of the rest of the population will ride on and enjoy a wonderful and well maintained product with a decent backbone and so much future potential 👌🏽
As someone who has never ridden any type of mono wheeled balance board (lol). After doing a lot of scouring online I feel like neither of these boards are quite there for me yet, however Floatwheel is the closest and after some changes that I believe they are implementing will probably make me open my wallet.
Reasons being for me:
1. I'm in the UK, having to ship a heavy board back to the USA for any kind of repair or troubleshooting does not appeal to me. FW on the other hand offers the ability for me to do all that myself, grab new parts independently or even hire someone locally who knows more about these things to fix for me. So saves me a lot of grief and possibly money. I despise it when any company removes the right to repair. Also I don't get the whole patent on a balance board like these. Can you patent the phone or the car or the scooter? Sure on your own general design like Samsung or apple etc but they both are the same thing and do near enough the same thing. Seems weird that you can patent the whole thing but anyway, I'm getting off point.
2. Safety. So I have seen a bunch of people getting nosedives off of a GT, either they push it a little too hard or it's the terrain the board can't quite keep up with. The FW doesn't appear to have this problem being more powerful means I'm far less likely to suffer from this kind of failure which for a new rider is more reassuring. I want to be able to trust what I put under my feet.
3. Cost. The FW is significantly cheaper. I don't think I really have to say more here.
Now I know there are cons to it, like having to pay through crypto, however having seen people receiving their boards and the support they are getting for them that makes me a lot more relaxed around this.
And also I guess quality control. There's bad plastic on these FW boards and some come with bad cells with no way outside of stringent testing to check for them. However these are both being worked on and should be being rectified in the near future in the form of new plastic compound and a new BMS to detect cell health. The fact they can so quickly iterate on and fix their product as well as supply new parts for those that failed to their customers is amazing to me. So that will be ot for me I think. Once that's sorted it'll be FW for me.
Oh and I just realised, standard hub size. So plenty of aftermarket variants available should I want to switch it up.
@@Ctec87 Yeah ill say that if you are out of the country, I wish you the best lol. The rest of us have gotten on our first onewheel and had our minds blown. Everyone remembers their first ride. Unfortunately, you will probably go with that FW thing and that’s your choice. You may never experience the OG product. The very products companies try so hard to replicate and beat. As far as all your other complaints, I can’t sympathize with them. Safety is the biggest joke out there… You can get a FW and go a little faster maybe but none of these boards are invincible lol. They all have a ceiling and the one with the fastest ceiling the one that will dunk you the hardest 🫡
@@dezh2544 Why can't you sympathise with reduced cost? Or safety? It's not about top speed but about the torque or power of the board. It is literally able to keep you balanced under heavier load than a GT.
For me I'm not about to give my undying loyalty to a brand. I'll give it to the best product and without being able to compare the two. On specs and based on what the people who have rode both are saying. The FW is it.
Edit: just to add I don't plan on riding this thing to max speed. With the Vesc software I'd put a push back limit of around 22mph or 80% load or something.
