Excellent video. Does anybody ever wish for sweets very soon after already having a complete meal. I am often so full from dinner I don’t feel like I could eat any more of it but I definitely would still have room for some type of dessert!
Yes! I am really struggling with this. I read somewhere that it's a sign of insulin resistance. I'm planning phases where I add a little fruit along with lunch so I get my sugar cravings satisfied after my proteins and veggies but also get fiber and nutrients (versus reaching for unhealthy dessert). Hoping it helps because it really sucks when all your best intentions go out the window even when you eat a healthy meal.
I do always want sugary desserts both after lunch and dinner. I also wake up I'm the middle of the night craving it big time. Sometimes I can't even go back to sleep until I eat a snack

If you get enough protein, like Autumn says, it brings that 7.5 down to like a 2, but if you're just trying to quit cold turkey, it's hard to tell yourself no over and over. It is a challenge, BUT 100% doable and manageable and after ab 21 days the cravings really do fade away. Anyway, I believe you, me, anyone can do it and I believe everyone has will power! What got me off of sugar and carbs was my CGM. Seeing what happened to my blood sugar after I ate something was amazingly helpful. They should be over the counter. Now I am mostly ketovore and my HgbA1C was 5.3 when I had it measured yesterday. I still want to get it down a little more. My skin has cleared up, no more adult acne and I lost 80 lbs....
After years of struggling, I finally realized I was actually a full-blown sugar addict, and I broke my addiction by dropping all carbohydrates "cold turkey." I switched to the "carnivore" diet and have never looked back. I went into serious sugar withdrawals for about a week - everything you'd expect an addict in withdrawals to experience: headache, mood swings, sudden and intense cravings, tiredness, etc. I also got diarrhea for 11 days. I thought something was wrong with the diet, but learned that this is totally normal for people who aren't used to eating that much animal protein and fat. Eventually my body adjusted and everything went back to normal. Like I said, it took about one week to go through the physical withdrawal symptoms. But it took another two weeks for the psychological and emotional symptoms to fade away. I had anxiety about how my social life would be affected. I was sad about how not eating carbs would impact my family traditions. I kept have very, _very_ intrusive thoughts about how I could probably get away with just a little treat here and there because I deserved it. All sorts of those things. But I stuck with it and all of it went away. It's been about half a year and now I can sit with my friends as they eat after-meal sweets, and I won't have any desire to try a bite. Sugar is an addictive chemical that comes from plants. All addictive chemicals come from plants - sugar, caffeine, nicotine, cocain, opium, etc. My life has been so much better since I cut out plants and carbs, and focused on animals protein and fat. (Plus I lost 30 pounds in three months)
I'm in the middle of this right now just started (again) OMAD intermittent fasting, but this time focusing on getting my protein high, my carbs moderate.and you are right, if you focus on getting enough protein you will have no room in your stomach for sugar. It is a much easier way to do it than quitting sugar cold turkey and just trying to simply willpower your way through quitting table sugar, which I've done in the past, it's awful
Sugar is my weakness. Still have cravings, but doing better than I used to. Increased protein and healthy fats helped. Just made the yummy pumpkin chili this past weekend. I also made a soup using that bone broth. This is one of my favorite channels. I never miss a video. Thank you, Autumn!
Thank you so much for sharing this video. I keep going through cycles of health and unhealth during my menstrual cycle and coming back to your video really helps me to stay focused and slowly break the cycle.
There is no harm in eating fruits with higher sugar. It's never caused me to crave sugar. Plus sugar in fruit comes packaged with essential nutrients and minerals important for good health.
I never really had a problem with fruit except for eating the occasional watermelon in a single sitting. My problem was processed sugar. I ate 8000 KK donuts in the 80s. I would eat a pound of M&Ms in a day. I could finish off a box of fudge covered Oreos at lunch. I would eat ice cream cake for breakfast. It took four months for me to transition off of sugar. It was very difficult. If I had to do over again, I would’ve gone cold turkey combined with carnivore. I lost all carb and sugar cravings the week I switched from keto to carnivore.
4:39 great suggestion on the BB but for those with high histamine intolerance BB will increase histamines; causing a cascade of issues including chronic inflammation
Hello Autumn, As a pre-diabetic, you must have been watching SugarMD. Sugar is the enemy and in everything we eat. I subscribe to you but only now show up on my feed. Nice to see you again.
My great aunt i.e. my mother because that's who raised me always says and she always says it to her sister in a southern old school voice '' Child its just made up mind '' and truer words haven't ever been spoken !!
I'm so happy I found this video!!! based on your advice, today I had extra protein powder and an avocado (healthy fat) in my smoothie, salmon at lunch, and didn't crave sugar at all throughout the day, I can't believe that's all it took thank you sm!!! my sugar addiction has been controlling me haha
I would add to this that it is useful to check the nutrition stats on everything you buy at zhe supermarket. There is lots of (hidden) sugar even in products where you would least expect it and l think most people are not actually aware of how much sugar they do consume on a daily basis.
I had a similar type family, very few sweets, desserts, sodas, etc. I too ate a lot of sweets at my friends' houses! Lol! My attachment to sugar to "make up for lost time" has been a big problem, physical and emotional. Enjoyed this video a lot! More protein starting today ❤️
Hi Autumn, great video. I know how much you promote protein, but wish you would do a video for those of us with high cholesterol and are told to stay away from cheese, eggs, etc. It really is confusing and overwhelming. I love all your content. I have learned so much and am a new subscriber.
I add nutritional yeast to smoothies or salads to give me an energy boost and mental clarity. It acts to avoid and counteract sugar and carb cravings. I'd encourage you to question the big pharma myth that eggs cause high cholesterol. Eggs are one of the most perfect proteins you can eat. Many doctors are finally speaking out about the lies perpetuated by big pharma and governmental nutritional guidelines.
This is such a straightforward and easy to understand video. Thanks a lot, I have a huge struggle coming away from junk food particularly sugar, but my continuous back and chin acne is getting me down now, I need to change how much I consume so my skin can finally heal and not be inflamed.
One thing you said as a kid you were not allowed sugary foods, so when at friends houses you ate a lot of sugar. I do try to teach my kids about healthy eating and what has a lot of sugar to teach them to make better. But I definitely remember friends that were not allowed sugar and how they over indulge, and even now my friends kids that are with too strict parents want to over indulge. Just something else worth noting, especially since you have a little on the way!
This is so true. I’d see it all the time when my kids were little. There was always chocolate in our fridge, but my kids weren’t that interested. Easter eggs would sit around for months. If we were shopping my son would ask for a little tub of olives to eat rather than lollies. The friends with strict parents were always asking for biscuits and snacks.
My biggest problem in trying to not consume sugar is that I don’t care if I live or die. I’m paralysed from the waist down and confined to a wheelchair. I get intense nerve pain in my right leg every day. I’m on a ridiculous amount of pain killers every day. A lot of my medications make me drowsy, so I can’t drive anymore. I have a pressure sore on each foot which have been there for over a decade. Because of the pressure sores I can’t go swimming anymore either. My brother was my tag team partner in life, and he died from alcoholism when he was just 31. I really don’t value my life, which gives me zero incentive to eat healthier. I have literally prayed for death many times over the years. I doubt there’s anything I can do about it at this stage.
😢 this makes me really sad. I’m sorry you’re going through this. I wish I Could be there for you as a friend. Just getting fresh air outside sometimes is helpful. Sending hugs and prayers
Dropped seven prescription drugs I was supposed to be on for life. By cutting out processed foods, processed sugar and moderate exercise. Not to mention lost forty pounds and kept it off for eleven years. Can definitely be done if you are committed to the process. My diet consist mainly of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and meat twice a week. (And lots of herbal teas) If you eat these foods, you can eat as much as you want and not gain weight. Mine is a gradual evolution of sugar. As a single mum of 3 boys. I couldn’t afford multipacks and boxes of fancy cereal etc. If they ever said ‘I’m hungry!’ It was ‘make a sandwich, have some Weetbix! (Which is cereal. But a staple in Australian households and low in sugar) None of my boys are overweight. So I did my bit for healthy adults lol. Me however. Once they were in bed it was my time to grab the remote and watch my tv shows etc. out came ‘mums stash’ I’d sit up later and later. Eat more and more rubbish. Now they’re all grown and gone I still eat nightly junk food. I have a sugar addiction.
I definitely wouldn't underestimate the power of eating enough protein (for your body's needs). It's impressive how much it stops cravings in its tracks
This is me Leanne- being a mum is so hard and when that small window of downtime comes I feel like I try to shovel as much fun/rnr/ chocolate into it as I can. It makes me feel free for a short space of time. Ironically the more I did it the more trapped I felt, so now I'm trying to prove to myself I dont need to eat it for the 21 days.... and now I'm trapped by intense food cravings. Am hoping maybe implementing some of this advice may help me moving forward cos I feel like giving in but I know I'll be so angry with myself when I do... but then maybe that's part of the problem too ..... ahhh psychological minefield!
@@bellyeahhhhh I feel your pain. My other confession is I finally managed to quit smoking which just amped up the junk food level. Gave up one addiction and took up another! 😩
Unripe (greener) bananas have lower sugar content than ripe ones! This applies to many other fruits like pears, mangoes, pinapples, etc. Why? Because during the ripening process starches convert into sugar. Specifically, green bananas contain a great amount of Resistant Starch (R3) which is a type of starch that isn't digested in the intestine, which acts as fiber. Straches are unsweet carbohydrates, whereas sugars are simple carbohydrates that have this sweet taste!
I was a sugar fiend until recently. When a blood test came back showing a slightly elevated A1C, I decided to implement immediate change. I haven’t gone crazy with it, but I almost entirely cut out added sugar. I still get plenty of sugar in the form of fruit, and daily have a big bowl of plain Siggi’s with blueberries and strawberries. I top that with 1/4 cup of Nature’s Path Pumpkin Flax granola, which adds plenty of sweetness, but only about 3 grams of sugar. I’m easily staying well below 10 grams of added sugar each day. If I really want a treat, I’ll have some Breyer’s Carb Smart ice cream (the chocolate peanut butter is amazing). I’ll be retested in a month, and fully expect better results. Oh, and I majorly ramped up my protein intake.
Protien and healthy fats definitely helped me, but nothing has stopped the cravings for me. I do good for awhile, but not forever for sure. I do like Kettle and Fire bone broth. I am "at peace" with knowing I will always crave sugar and will always struggle to keep that under control.
I used to work at a place called "Souper salad"😂 it had everything you could think of to put in a salad. It was so good. It had so many delicious soups too..I don't know if that place is even open anymore but it was the BEST!
Thanks for the advice, I honestly thought sugar in fruit was okay because it's natural! I'll still eat grapes etc now I know (just not as much). I had no idea there was sugar in a banana! I've cut down from one large one to a small one per day now.
I just got a call 5 minutes ago from my Dr office on results of my blood work & my bad cholesterol is 144 when the max should be about 130 so I need to control the sugar & I just go on RUclips and see this video! Thank you!❤
Get on a Statin. Everybody over 50 should be on a statin. There’s the usual websites with horror stories but the group of drugs know as statins stop cholesterol collecting in your arteries. 👍
I've had a bad sugar addiction. I am slowly weaning myself off of my sugar addiction. I am now in sugar detox mode to lower my elevated thyroid levels etc.
Good list to help with the sugar cravings. I am a sugary person. I have been able to cut it out of my lifestyle. I do eat berries and occasionally a date or two. I thought dates were low on the glycemic index. Somewhere I told they were both insoluble and soluble fiber in them that they stabilize blood sugar levels. May have to research. Maybe occasionally is the way to go.
Could you make a video about where sugar is commonly hiding! Over the last year or so I've been swapping everything in my kitchen for healthier options. My husband and I made homemade chicken nuggets that I was so excited to try and I was shocked & disgusted when I realized that the ketchup we dipped them in was loaded with sugar & preservatives :( Pre-made sauces, dips, prepackaged foods, even ones that say healthy or organic on the label have hidden sugars & seed oils :(
Sugar is hiding in every aisle of your grocery store. If you wanna avoid the sugar shop the perimeter of the grocery store. And skip the bread aisle because that’s pure sugar
Yes, and I definitely still eat fruit, but I stick to lower sugar fruit options most of the time (or eat small amounts of higher sugar fruits). The higher sugar fruit options tend to not contain very much fiber while simultaneously being high in sugar.

I hate eating sweet first thing in my day. I also get headaches the next day upon waking up when having processed food with sugar. I do a sugar fast every year for one month since 2016. I like waking up without the headache. It's my husband who has a hard time giving sweets up. Chocolate gives me painful uterine contractions so, that was easy to stop eating. If I am making desserts, I use monk fruit and raw honey.
I do coffee with heavy cream (zero carbs) and a packet of Stevia for a little sweetness. Wish I could give up the Stevia but if you do any sweetener I’ve heard it’s the most “natural” since it’s actually an herb 🌿 and not made from chemicals. Good luck to you. I know how hard it is to find “replacements” for your favorite things 😊
I switched from sugar to monkfruit , 0 calories, does not spike blood sugar, can't taste the difference. Expensive though so l eat less of it. Works for me. Lost 2 pant sizes over the last year also.
I loved this but do you have any videos/could you do one for vegans/plant based eaters. I have the worst sugar cravings and think it’s probably due to lack of protein and good fats in my diet.
I learned most of the things you mention here the hard way with trial and error. When I start my day with eggs, veggies and some cheese I am usually not hungry for 4 or more hours. I started trying Kettle & Fire a while ago after one of your videos. It is great. The other day I ate WAY too much sugar for a host or reasons (excuses) and was feeling AWFUL around 7pm. I heated up a big bowl of their cheddar broccoli soup and WOW! It helped right away. I also used the regular bone broth recently when I had to go on a liquid fast for a medical procedure. And, again, it was amazing. Great recommendation, thanks!
Sleep is a huge factor to my sugar cravings. I am a train driver, when I have to get up around 3 am I crave sugar all day, because I don’t sleep enough as my work hours change every day my body never gets enough sleep when I start early
The crazy thing is I've seen people on TikTok be called an "almond mom" or shamed for trying to get their kids to understand how addictive and nutrient void sugar is for them. Not letting kids graze on candy and sweets all day is apparently bad parenting now 😂If I ever have kids I would want them to be a bit older before letting them have gobs of sugar.
the defining characteristic nature of an almond mom *isn't* that they educate their children on the addictive nature of added sugar. it's that they have extreme behaviors that push the child to develop disordered eating. they value thinness above everything, make their children feel self conscious about their bodies, and basically model starvation dieting as the path towards being a worthy human being. there is nothing wrong with informing your kids about the effects of sugar on their bodies, but there are many things wrong with making them feel ashamed for being anything other than a size zero.

Can you elaborate on that by any chance? Thank you so much. I really enjoyed this video
Another great video autumn. Even though you're very active, coz you're still quite small, your protein needs aren't that much compared to someone who's naturally bigger. Like your husband's, as you said in the video. What does a typical day of eating look like for someone like him, who needs prob 100g or more of protein a day??? Would you do a video or blog post on that???
I definitely would! I did a video in the past showing what 30 grams of protein looks like with various protein sources, so you can also take a look at that one for a baseline of at least 90 grams per day (across 3 meals) here: ruclips.net/video/EszmmLnCF4c/видео.html
Removed my daily bagel in the morning, afternoon small bowl of wheat thins and evening handful of M&M's and replaced them with Eggs, cheese, nuts and sugar free jerky. Limited to an 8 hour eating window and lost 10lbs in 2 weeks and still going strong.
One thing that I found interesting was when I was given up sugar in the early stages I'd get a pineapple and leave it on the side for later and I knew that if there was a chocolate bar on the counter next to the pineapple I could leave the pineapple but I wouldn't leave the chocolate bar and still to this day I can very easily moderately eat pineapple whereas I wouldn't be able to do that with chocolate or biscuits or cakes or whatever in the past.

I notice on Mediterranean Keto, that my skin really is healthy and clear. I thrive when low carb.

9:16 This. That's the story of my life - always craving chocolate or something - anything - sweet after dinner. Especially chocolate.
This is where I am. I wanna stop the cravings to just feel better, thanks great advice!!! I do feel better eating less "bad" sugar.
Yeah fruit sugar is different than refined sugar
I never really had a problem with fruit except for eating the occasional watermelon in a single sitting. My problem was processed sugar. I ate 8000 KK donuts in the 80s. I would eat a pound of M&Ms in a day. I could finish off a box of fudge covered Oreos at lunch. I would eat ice cream cake for breakfast. It took four months for me to transition off of sugar. It was very difficult. If I had to do over again, I would’ve gone cold turkey combined with carnivore. I lost all carb and sugar cravings the week I switched from keto to carnivore.
I’m starting the process as we speak. Your former sugar diet sounds like my sugar binges too. Thank you for sharing, it’s very encouraging.
@@christinaslocum8761 how is it going for you? 😊

Hello Autumn,
As a pre-diabetic, you must have been watching SugarMD.
Sugar is the enemy and in everything we eat.
I subscribe to you but only now show up on my feed.
Nice to see you again.
Thank you so much for your video Autumn 🍂! 😊hope my donation will help out your channel.
I'm so excited, it's taken me a few months but I've weened myself off of cream and sugar in my morning coffee.
Just love your educated practical approach when sharing your tips. Thank You!
You are so welcome!
I just discovered Kettle & FIre and I love it. Life changing. Totally recommend.
This is a fantastic tips video, it seems i can’t combat my sugar cravings but will definitely incorporate these recommendations. Thanks, Autumn!
Heavens know how desperate I am to end sugar addiction thank you for these tips, got to try!
You're very welcome! Good luck on your wellness journey!❤️
Thanks for keeping it short and sweet.
Only within 2 days I stopped wanting sugar after increasing my protein. It was amazing and feels so amazing.
In what ways did you increase your proteins? Thxs
Added things like Eggs, tuna, Greek yogurt and cottage cheese.
Hi Autumn, great video. I know how much you promote protein, but wish you would do a video for those of us with high cholesterol and are told to stay away from cheese, eggs, etc. It really is confusing and overwhelming. I love all your content. I have learned so much and am a new subscriber.
it SUX. some say eggs are not causing the high cholesterol. and fuk. i love cheese. cheese is life.
Eggs are not causing it- sugar and carbs are as well as highly inflammatory seed/vegetable oils are.
Add a cup of beans to your meal every morning
Same. I compensate by having one egg white with a bowl of savory oats on some days.
Yes they’ll always have the kids that gorge on sweets because they weren’t allowed. Everything in moderation.
Yes yes! When you try and totally restrict it makes cravings worse!!
Your videos are really well edited. Thank you for the valuable information.
Thank you so much!❤️
IF 16/8 got me off sugar ! No cravings anymore at all ! Plus lost 10 lbs in one month ! Still going strong with tons of energy ! Highly recommend IF
Yes great info but what about vegetarian alternative options for protein? I find this is a real dilemma for me.
Eggs and cheese, if you’re not vegan. Beans or tofu
I wish I
Could be there for you as a friend. Just getting fresh air outside sometimes is helpful.
Sending hugs and prayers
I got of sugar 8 years ago and reality is it keeps me at cortisol level medium when i see what happening around😢😊❤
(Nuts and seeds do not cause you to gain weight)
I've always been led to believe that nuts are high in fat
@@emmylou4522 Hi Emmylou. I used to think so as well. Dr. Joel Fuhrman help me with this while listening to his series on PBS. Nuts and seeds do have fat in them. But most of the fat goes right through your system. I have stayed at 165 pounds for eleven years. I eat them every day in between meals.
@@Brian-rs4ug what nuts do you eat?
Mainly unsalted mixed nuts from Costco. (Cashews, Almonds, Pistachios, Pecans) I also add walnuts and almonds into my smoothies everyday.

But a staple in Australian households and low in sugar)
None of my boys are overweight.
This can be a helpful tip: Try consuming fruit that isn't very ripe
I am new to your channel and I love what I have learned from your videos
Protien and healthy fats definitely helped me, but nothing has stopped the cravings for me. I do good for awhile, but not forever for sure. I do like Kettle and Fire bone broth. I am "at peace" with knowing I will always crave sugar and will always struggle to keep that under control.
I used to work at a place called "Souper salad"😂 it had everything you could think of to put in a salad. It was so good. It had so many delicious soups too..I don't know if that place is even open anymore but it was the BEST!
Oh, man - I used to LOOOOOVE that place! I wish they’d bring it back.
Check out Flavcity on RUclips. He has changed how I eat more than anyone else.
I know I just barely looked at ketchup too! It has a ton of corn syrup. Gross 🤢
I need to work on a couple of these…thank you Autumn! Great video content always.
I need to really watch my sugar intake and stop my sugar habit bc of my glucose and A1C from my last physical exam in July 2023.
Doesn't the fibre in fruit help to prevent blood sugar spikes though?

Great tips!!
I would love to know what protein bars, if any, that you like Autumn. Most have junk in them but are high in protein
I typically don't recommend protein bars. Meat sticks (like PaleoValley and Chomps) are much better alternatives.
My HUGE problem is I LOVE COFFEE WITH FLAVORED CREAMER. Help, what can I do for creamer with sweet taste. I hate fake sweeteners
Autumn, the last day of February!❤
great 👍👍, I have a question, is it worth eating apples and bananas because they also have a lot of sugar, is it ok to reduce?
Congratulations on your 5th anniversary!
I used to have the biggest sweet tooth!! These tips are definitely helpful!!
Hi, how can I as a vegetarian ensure getting enough high quality protein? I do eat eggs, Joghurt and cheese, but no meat. Any hints?
The crazy thing is I've seen people on TikTok be called an "almond mom" or shamed for trying to get their kids to understand how addictive and nutrient void sugar is for them. Not letting kids graze on candy and sweets all day is apparently bad parenting now 😂If I ever have kids I would want them to be a bit older before letting them have gobs of sugar.
Don’t they call them fat phobic? I’m a proud fat phobic then
the defining characteristic nature of an almond mom *isn't* that they educate their children on the addictive nature of added sugar. it's that they have extreme behaviors that push the child to develop disordered eating. they value thinness above everything, make their children feel self conscious about their bodies, and basically model starvation dieting as the path towards being a worthy human being. there is nothing wrong with informing your kids about the effects of sugar on their bodies, but there are many things wrong with making them feel ashamed for being anything other than a size zero.
@@april_ it's not a label you should wear proudly. it groups you with the same mentality people who dehumanize fat people, seeing them as lazy and worthless human beings, ultimately condoning or committing discrimination against fat people. you can hate the industry that prioritizes profit by encouraging sugar addiction, but it doesn't mean that you have to then go and make fat people feel less than.
@@azrajoy It’s a joke Azra, I don’t go around telling people I’m seriously fat phobic. Just saying people can be ridiculous sometimes. It’s very sad how we prioritize profit over the health of our people. A lot of processed foods are scientifically made to be addicting.
Maybe because there is no such thing as sugar addiction. This so called nutritionist spews bs about sugar and insulin. Most of what she talks about with sugar and insulin has been debunked by actual scientists
How can i eat more protein if eggs, yogurt n some fish is the only animal protrein I will eat.....I was relying a lot on legumes, which many nutrition minded vegan doctors state half cup daily is healthy......but I wonder about being high carb n trying to keep carbs lowest possible...
🤔🤔🤔🤔
That's a good variety right there already! There's the plethora of different types of fish you can explore (tuna, salmon, anchovies, etc) and different yogurts (greek, skyr, etc.) and SO many ways to cook eggs
Great...since I can't eat beef nor chicken...
Is it possible to reverse insulin resistant eating legumes? Or must be kept off the menu...🤔
I found your comment about waking up because of low blood sugar interesting because lately I have been waking up in the very early morning hours and then I continued to wake up until I decide that I'm ready to get up but it really hinders my deep sleep my rest but I didn't quite understand what it was you were saying that would be good to practice to avoid this annoying wake up nonsense.
Yes great video and super interested in a video/blog covering 100+ g’s of protein.
I definitely would! I did a video in the past showing what 30 grams of protein looks like with various protein sources, so you can also take a look at that one for a baseline of at least 90 grams per day (across 3 meals) here: ruclips.net/video/EszmmLnCF4c/видео.html
Great advice, as usual! Thank you❤
Do you have the whipped cream recipe anywhere?
Removed my daily bagel in the morning, afternoon small bowl of wheat thins and evening handful of M&M's and replaced them with Eggs, cheese, nuts and sugar free jerky. Limited to an 8 hour eating window and lost 10lbs in 2 weeks and still going strong.
You talk about eating more protein. I can’t do that because I have UCD and my protein can go through the roof very quickly. So what is the solution?
Are larabars ok? I tend to eat the PB ones for breakfast or a morning snack
