You lost me at "too intense" Right before that you said "takes flying coasters to another level" yet you give it an 8.5? I dunno do you still agree with your score? Terrain interaction, size, smooth, amazing elements, strong forces, and takes flying costers to an other level ... yet .... 8.5?
Having watched a lot of your videos, it seems like your ratings are way too influenced by your expectations and that's not a good thing. I know it seems natural to compare this flying coaster to the previous ones you've ridden, but if you had done even a LITTLE bit of research you wouldn't have expected: 1. This to be a small ride (stats are available online), 2. This to be a gentle and graceful ride (it's well known to be an INTENSE ride as the amount of Gs you pull on the pretzel loop is insane...). Also, it's unfortunate you didn't even mention a lot of the great things about this ride: the way it's HIGH above ground throughout the ride because of the topography makes it really feel like you're flying, the way it courses through natural forested landscapes instead of in a compact layout where everything is visible, making it the closest equivalent to a flying terrain coaster... It's a shame. You put expectations on rides based on your own ideas of what it SHOULD be like, and when the rides don't align with your faulty assumption, you are left either disappointed or unsure of what to think. Maybe here's a solution: Stop making assumptions about rides you've never ridden before and just take in the experience as it is!
The whole reason I watch these reviews is to get perspective from someone who has ridden a lot of coasters. Some of us have never ridden a flying coaster at all. Distinguishing this one from the others is worthwhile.
First time I approached that massive pretzel loop was like the first (and second!) time I rode X2: the intensity was so overwhelming that the thought that flashed through my mind was "How is this allowed? How can they get away with this? How do people not have heart attacks on this??" lol No ride at Cedar Point ever made me feel even close to that way, fwiw. I'm not saying that makes SFMM better than CP -- I love both -- just saying some of SFMM's rides are the most intense I've ever experienced.
Lmao I wasn't going to dislike it but this is one of the few I'm not liking. Getting points docked because it's too thrilling? Yeah... I don't think so. I also think it's just as graceful as any other flyer out there.
@@EmeraldBayMoviesI don’t think the pretzel loop is super intense, people compare it to the weight of a fridge lying on you but it just feels like your head is being pushed back
He said in a reply, that it was exam week when he made this. His mind was probably scattered and he just remembered it taking him off guard and went with it
Ridden this several times and absolutely love it. One thing that I don’t think MM gets enough credit for is the general layout of the park, and Tatsu is a perfect example: unless you’re specifically looking for it, it’s really hard to even see the ride from the rest of the park, so it’s a genuine surprise when you ride it the first time. Also, I don’t think I’m giving anything away here but the lift hill on Tatsu is amazing: you’re facing down and for the first part of it you’re not even very far off the ground. Then at one point the ground just drops out from under you and you realize how high you really are, and it’s so much more real because you’re suspended above the ground with nothing underneath you unlike most roller coasters. And it’s completely appropriate that it shares the same hill and quasi-Japanese theming as Ninja, which today doesn’t seem like much, but when it was built was truly innovative.
It's all about that Pretzel loop! Love the terrain too how you swoop around, the overbanking is cool too cause you get a nice view of the park. Took my teen cousin on this and it was his first big-boy ride ever. Go straight from Big Thunder Mountain at Disneyland... to this.
Tatsu was actually my first flying coaster ever. Me boarding Tatsu: OMG I can't believe I'm doing this! Second row ride Having seen this already, I knew that the pretzel loop would kick my ass Me as we dive into the pretzel loop: MAAAMAAAAAAAA! (And I grayed out)
I've ridden Tatsu only once myself, and I must say . . . IT'S TRULY AMAZING! I went in November of 2013, and even though it was a bit cold, it ran very nicely.
Totally agree. I felt like I was being flipped and could never grasp where the heck I was or was going. And yes! The power behind is felt immediately. You can feel the force from the first drop!
I agree with everything you said, even though this is the only B&M Flyer I've rode I had the same thoughts you have, it was alot larger than I thought it was, it was crazy intense I almost blacked out on the pretzel loop and I also didn't know what was happening during the ride, no doubt the king of flying coasters
I have ridden Tatsu about 6 times now over the last 3 years. It is definitely in my personal top 3 rides at the park, with X2 and Twisted Colossus. Unlike you, Tatsu was my first flying coaster to experience, and though I may be biased because of the name (my SN is Tatsumasa) i thought the extremeness was a perfect combination to the landscape and the coaster type. I think it's also worth mentioning this was my mom's favorite ride at the park when she visited. Gonna end by saying that pretzel loop is hands down the best inversion I have ever experienced
I am a major coaster enthusiast and as someone who cannot handle some rides anymore this surprised me as so incredibly smooth, exhilarating, awe inspiring, fun, scary and overwhelming but not jarring or nauseating and very smooth sleek comfortable and worth it.
I find Galactica to be one of my favourite B&M's. The layout may not be as strong as some of the others (as it was the first) but the theming, terrain and interaction with the path, gives a great and relaxing ride with some exciting and forceful bits too.
As a SoCal resident this is my favorite ride at Magic Mountain, even more than Twisted Colossus after riding each many times. Your reasons are mine, you covered almost everything. Amazing view day and night because of the flying position.
I got to go onto it 7 times when it first opened up to the public with the American Coaster Enthusiasts and I remember seeing a press conference on the weekend it opened up and there was this fighter pilot that went onto it something like 11 times and he said that by the end of that he was physically exhausted because the forces were nearly comparable to when he was in those fighter pilot jets, after going on it 7 times in one day at the ACE Event I can definitely concur that it takes a lot out of you, I believe I went on it 6 times in a row and I felt like I went through the ringer, but it is such a fun ride and I absolutely love that Pretzel Loop, I believe just the loop alone is bigger than the height of nearly all flying coasters.
I rode Tatsu like 8 or 9 times on my 3 visits to magic mountain. I loved the ride and the only complaint I have is that it has a bit of a B&M rattle. I rode it in the front at night and there was no rattle one bit! Other than that, the ride is glossy smooth and super forceful. I give it a 10/10
This coaster is a masterpiece!. It's my home park, and I've ridden all three B&M flying coasters in the U.S. (crediting one Superman Ultimate flight). While I rode Superman at Great adventure in 2012, it was good but it was not that intense. I rode Manta in 2013 and that was a pretty good ride! The speed going into the pretzel loop on manta is faster than Tatsu IMO. Overall a great coaster, But I've been riding Tatsu since 2009 and I can't get enough of it. The terrain flying over the tree tops, the intensity, the length. It's a TRUE flying coaster!
I absolutely love Tatsu, from the very first moment I rode it opening year it has been one of my favorite coaster both at the park and overall. It is absolutely surreal ever time you ride it, you truly feel as though you're flying, especially with how high off the ground you are for most of the ride. Absolutely a 9.5 if not a 10 IMO.
Just rode this coaster last week for the first time. I rode it twice. It's definitely one of my favorite rides of all times but I disagree that it's intense or powerful. As a matter of fact, I find the corkscrew rolls to be rather gentle compares to other rides like Batman. The only element that is somewhat intense is the pretzel loop but I still wouldn't call it intense. When I think intense, I picture Fury 325, Titan, Goliath, or other hyper-coasters with high speeds and high G's.
I first rode Tatsu many moons again... I haven't been the same since... I sometimes remember what it felt like to have a soul... Before that pretzel loop robbed me of my innocence. Some describe the pretzel loop as "too intense" or "thrilling" but I simply tell everyone it's like that scene in Alien where the Alien burst out of the chest of the human with a little bit of Armageddons spaceship launch sprinkled on top.
While I only rode Tatsu once and I only have a coaster count of 24... I enjoy this ride right from the get go! It is now been my favourite roller coaster since! I think I will have the opposite reaction to riding other Flying coasters in America than you, in that I will probably enjoy them but come off saying they were kind of boring... We will have to wait and see.
I find it kind of interesting that you imply that it's intensity wasn't a good thing (or at least its unexpected intensity was a negative), considering your preference for intense coasters overall.
I personally give Tatsu a 10/10. 8 know what to expect, and the layout has the track so high off the ground, that it truly feels like im flying! The harness is comfortable, and, with any physics lessons, climbing back up the pretzel loop leads to the riders being pushed OUT of their seats, rather than pressed in with traditional loops. The harness moved with my stomach/chest, so rather than feeling stapled, I felt comfortable. B&M RULES!
I rode this 6 times in a row at the employees only opening party. That 6th pretzel loop was the only time time I had gotten close to throwing up on a coaster. Favorite coaster of the park you could ride (I was only able to ride X once even though I tried multiple times due to them operating only one car, but that 4D controlled motion is amazing)
The intensity and disorienting factor goes away more each time you ride it. I've ridden it a lot to the point where now it's just a fun, amazing experience(the pretzel is still nuts though and I love it). Tatsu was my first flyer, so when I rode SUF after I found it incredibly weak lol
TATSU is my favorite ride at sfmm and I love coasters as well and you would think I'd dislike this review, I respect your overall score. I've been on it many times and would give it a 10/10. Hope you get more flights on TATSU in the future. I respect your opinion.
Good review. To my mind, it gives people who haven't ridden this a good idea of what to expect. Tatsu really is a special -- and yes, intense -- coaster.
Tatsu gets overlooked because of X2, but I think that both rides are equally as good. As one of Six Flags’s last major investments before the coaster war wrapped up, this was absolutely worth the $21 million price tag.
I got off Tatsu for the first time yesterday and now it’s my second favorite roller coaster behind skyrush. (Twisted collossus was closed so didnt get on that unfortunately)
Hey bro! Great review considering you only rode it once, good job on that! I agree with you! Tatsu is the ultimate king of flying coasters. I've been able to ride all flying coasters here in America (Superman, Manta and those flying dutch machines as well) and believe it, Tatsu is just unique in a whole new level, not only because is the biggest and most intense amongst all of them, but also the scenery and location play a wonderful set to enjoy the whole thing.
I've only rode it once and it was when the power went out to most of the park except the holiday in the park area. So all the lights stood out a ton more and it was pitch black almost everywhere else. was a fun experience. I didn't even see the pretzel loop until I was going through it haha.
I went to Magic Mountain when there was barely anyone there (because it was a weekday) and I was able to ride it 10 times in a row. Immediately after it ended, me and my friends found seats that weren't taken, and we went on.
i rode manta last summer and that coaster was amazing. i haven't got to ride tatsu yet since i live on the east coast but you should ride manta and tell us whats better
I found Tatsu to be the scariest coaster at Magic Mountain - even scarier than X2. The two main reasons are: (1) You're staring straight down as you slowly climb that ginormous lift hill, and (2) the giant loop. I will definitely ride it again, though.
Pretzel loops are ridiculous, but love it, Manta at Sea World has one and holy crap you feel it going all the way around and it puts all that pressure on you, love that feeling though.
Oh well, great review. It is hard to judge a coaster if you only ride once. (BTMRR at Disneyland is an example) this does look like a great coaster and, remember, 8.5 is a great score. Keep making amazing content, so I can be a coaster enthusiast at home
Tatsu caught me of guard too! I'm Australian and had never ridden a B&M before, that pretzel loop was just insane. Tatsu was my favourite B&M at Six Flags MM. As to B:TR... I hated it so so much. I actually prefer the SLC back in Australia than Batman!
This ride scared me so much. This was the only ride that was genuinely scary to me. I put this ride off till the end of the day because I was too scared to ride it and I’m glad I got to ride it because it’s super fun but also super scary.
2:06 Right? I rode the Flying Dinosaur and its pretzel loop is insane! It is way too intense - the blood rush gave me a headache and it made me dizzy! It was definitely worth it though, it was such a great ride and there is nothing more intense as the pretzel loop, well done B&M.
I agree with your evaluation of its intensity. I have never ridden a more "gracefull" flying coaster but I'd like to try one. The pretzel loop is so intense I almost don't look forward to it. It makes me so uncomfortable. However, I still adore Tatsu.
The scariest part of the ride in my opinion is the chain lift to the top because I feel more scared going slow in a flying position above the ground from about 100 feet. Sorry, I don’t really know how tall it is. Anyways, when your going up, I am thinking to myself, “ Oh God, please do not let my harness come off!”. But it’s still very fun, trust me. What do you think?
In the world of coaster enthusiasts, I'm probably the most disappointing (age 12, coaster credit 25). Aside from self pity, I'm waiting for the X2 Parody (From the park that has too many coasters that go backwards....)
Only coaster on Earth that actually scares me. Honestly, i found skydiving to be less scary than Tatsu. Gawd I love the G's you pull in that pretzel loop. So intense!
I really like this ride but the pretzel loop makes me not want to ride it tbh. I think its really good and cool except but it's so strong that I gray out badly every time and have a headache for a while after.
Every time I have been on this ride, I feel like I am flying like a bird. Maybe this is why the line is always long, because us humans cannot fly and people want to know what flying is like.
I rode this once and loved it!! I have one problem, we had the most expensive flash pass and we still had to wait and hour, heck we got on X2 faster than that and I heard X2 frequently breaks down, so that was kinda sad in my opinion, but this ride was very fun, but that pretzel loop was very intense
Rode this yesterday for the first time in 6 years! Idk wtf was up with the people in my car but two people infront of me yacked alover the platform right before the station. Plus I have a swollen left ankle n couldn’t fit my left leg in the restraint plus I’m a fairly large person so it’s tough the ride attendant judo kicked the restraint into place
It was also built way after those clones. No middle finger, just evolution. Superman was built in the first year the flying coaster was even offered by B&M.
I have never been to magic mountain or anything from cedar point, but this review is influenced by expectations. He should have done research before hand.
This is my favorite b and m. Such a shame that so many parks overlook building one of these for one of the worst coasters ever: wing coaster. I always had hope that cedar point would have gotten the first launched version of these. Especially since they love b&m, instead of valraven or gatekeeper.
Tatsu was my favorite flyer until I rode Flying Dinosaur at Universal Studios Japan. That coaster is much more intense if you can believe it with some really unique elements.
It's too bad you only went in the front, because of how the pretzel loop works its arguably the most intense in the front. since you are being pushed down and back up by the back of the train. Also really looking to see how you like it after multiple rides. It's a solid 9. Really the only way to get it to a 10 would be a bigger drop or closer to the ground elements, but that's what Manta is for. Tatsu is for swopping turns
from an operator's stand point i bet that thing is pretty tricky to operate since you load and unload from 2 separate plaforms. while very cool thats gotta be a bit tricky
I actually didn't find this coaster that intense at all, just the pretzel loop. Otherwise, it's a smooth, fun, and enjoyable ride. In fact I think twisted colossus and apocalypse are more intense imo.
the loop is like nothing I've ever experienced. I mean it's a full on nose dive and it feels never ending. Absolutely outstanding.

When I rode tatsu only got to ride 2 times in the back. Back seat is crazy. That pretzel loop made me grey out a little. This is in my top 10
I got off Tatsu for the first time yesterday and now it’s my second favorite roller coaster behind skyrush. (Twisted collossus was closed so didnt get on that unfortunately)
"Tatsu 1 looks too intense for me"
Lol
This is a perfect 10 coaster; no doubt about it!
I've only rode it once and it was when the power went out to most of the park except the holiday in the park area. So all the lights stood out a ton more and it was pitch black almost everywhere else. was a fun experience. I didn't even see the pretzel loop until I was going through it haha.
my #2 favorite ride of all time in magic mountain
I went to Magic Mountain when there was barely anyone there (because it was a weekday) and I was able to ride it 10 times in a row. Immediately after it ended, me and my friends found seats that weren't taken, and we went on.
Tatsu: I'm the best B&M Flying coaster in the world!
Flying Dinosaur: Hold my beer
i rode manta last summer and that coaster was amazing. i haven't got to ride tatsu yet since i live on the east coast but you should ride manta and tell us whats better
I found Tatsu to be the scariest coaster at Magic Mountain - even scarier than X2. The two main reasons are: (1) You're staring straight down as you slowly climb that ginormous lift hill, and (2) the giant loop.
I will definitely ride it again, though.
I would agree, I would used to give it a 10, but then after riding it over and over again it seems more intense then fun
This ride looks amazing I can only dream to visit here one day and ride this
It's by B&M?!?!?!??!?!?! I THOUGHT IT WAS INTAMIN!!!!!!
Yeah couldn’t agree more, this is my home park and the pretzel loop has SOOO much force!
Its my favorite roller coaster and its better at night they have lights everywhere
I’m a magic mountain fanboy and I approve of this
Pretzel loops are ridiculous, but love it, Manta at Sea World has one and holy crap you feel it going all the way around and it puts all that pressure on you, love that feeling though.
One of my favorite rides at magic mountain is tatsu, I went on it a couple days ago! It was smooth and intense and I love it!
I've been on Air and Manta. both are extremely graceful. maybe why I enjoy both so much
at least you had the chance to go to magic mountain. I doubt ill ever make it to Dollywood or carowinds!
To me tatsu is the 2nd best coaster at Magic Mountian with Twisted taking 1st and X2 taking 3rd as ive rode all of these multiple times.
I had already memorized the layout when I rode this ride, but it is still amazing!
Besides Twisted Colossus, Tatsu is easily the best ride in the park and easily one of, if not the best coaster on the west coast.
In the world of coaster enthusiasts, I'm probably the most disappointing (age 12, coaster credit 25).
Aside from self pity, I'm waiting for the X2 Parody (From the park that has too many coasters that go backwards....)
Next time you go on it Taylor it will have new colors! Green supports!
I rode this a week ago and I thought it was the second best ride in the park (Behind Twisted Colossus)
This is a must ride at magic mountain. This and X2 and the best in the park.
That pretzel loop is deeply intense...and is what I love the ride for. But I will try manta to see if tatsu rules the flying coaster business
Good thing you are going to ride manta this week
Tatsu serves as Magic Mountain’s middle finger to Six Flags’ generic Superman: Ultimate Flight clones, and it was a superior flyer.
It was also built way after those clones. No middle finger, just evolution. Superman was built in the first year the flying coaster was even offered by B&M.
I love Tatsu especially that pretzel loop inversion i really love pretzel loops i hope to ride Tatsu someday!!!!!!!
Manta is really really good and the scenery and effects are amazing
80 salty Magic Mountain fans who thought Tatsu was a perfect 10 disliked this video
Ben French I'm a magic mountain fan and I give it the same 8.5 Love this ride so much. I can't wait to ride it again on the 18th
Ben French Could also be Cedar fanboys who dislike everything Magic Mountain. But hey , how are we supposed to know ? All we can do is assume right.
Ben French definitely me 😂
I have never been to magic mountain or anything from cedar point, but this review is influenced by expectations. He should have done research before hand.
well it is a perfect 10, so
This is my favorite b and m.
I've been able to write it multiple times at different times of day and in different parts of the train and it's become my favorite ride there.
Excelent ride Best Flying Coaster Ever
Tatsu is a 10! The best ride in the park!
I actually didn't find this coaster that intense at all, just the pretzel loop. Otherwise, it's a smooth, fun, and enjoyable ride. In fact I think twisted colossus and apocalypse are more intense imo.
