400 whp, 1700 lbs, fwd car without any power adders running a 9.6 is insane!
SCIENCE
Clifton Wink it’ll be running significantly slower if he was weight restricted like they are in the US. They have to be a few 100lbs heavier to meet their class rules.
dats dumb
That's not insane. It's expected. People usually brag about how much horsepower they have. What's equally importance is the weight of the vehicle. Power-to-weight ratio is critical in racing.
@@asmongoldsmouth9839 While the average midwit car enthusiast may not really care about power:weight, it's not exactly a linear relationship for acceleration even excluding some external factors beyond simply weight/power, transmission and traction being roughly equal. The relationship may be fairly linear for acceleration to low speed like 0-60 but lower powered cars are at a huge disadvantage starting around 60-80mph and getting exponentially worse from Drag (squared with speed), especially given 'small' cars often don't even have much smaller frontal area since like the early 2000s, if it's smaller at all now. There's other factors as well that mitigate weight for acceleration, but Drag especially in the context of Racing is a massive problem for less powerful cars that is easy to overlook or never learn.
This car, like most serious drag cars, is absolutely maxxed out for the 1/4 and hardly comparable to a Miata/BRZ(86) (running out of common road cars...). I really didn't think it could run low 9s on a (allegedly) NA 2.7 i4 (especially considering 12k RPM, in a STROKED K24, given Honda's notorious undersquare designs with very high piston speeds at stock RPM), but videos like this REALLY show just how much close gearing and perfect drag launches shave off the 1/4 time and maximize early acceleration. A lot of AWD and high-torque, low-power RWD cars also would put up impressive 1/4 times on launch alone with trap speeds well under what's typical. No one's gonna read this but full Drag builds cause a bunch of people to think street cars of similar specs should be this fast.
This dude grows everytime he tunes!!!!
god hell scott is tall as fuck
Yes he is....
Either that or Dave is a hobbit.
Or both.. One is a Hobbit and the other is Gandolf.
yeah they have Dave standing on a box
Turbo Yoda hates this.
Nah, he just sees potential :P
he put a b16 in a mini tho....
Andrew Burston. I only recall him putting subaru RS coils on the b16 and calling it good enough for a honda Hahahaha
and then the subaru part was the only thing to fail
Umair Sheikh yeahhhh oh well used consumable parts. what you gonna do. either way interesting build
Great car, someone give that guy a milk crate to stand on!
Funny thing is, I'm pretty sure he's not short, just looks that way when you stand next to a really tall guy.
It's why he choose honda he fits.
Also, did you not want to see the car at all? they should have sat next to it or kneeled or something
Guy is probably 5’8-5’9 like me and that’s not considered short...well maybe only when you’re standing next to someone who’s 6’2 and up
about 135hp per little from an all motor engine!! That's fucking mental!!
Clicked on the link to watch the 9 second pass and . . . Holy shit! Would've been an interesting view from the other lane as the Civic blurred past, then fucked off and hid, screaming at 11k RPM the whole way. What a machine! Thanks for sharing.
sorry i couldn't even pay attention to the video, how did he hear you from all the way down there?
We had someone off-screen writing it down for him on a large whiteboard
hahaha
Backyard Built p
plot twist: the guy you think is short is 6'1, old mate from haltech is 7'10, lol
I love seeing tuningfork on his knees looking Dave dead in the eye balls.
Long live the K Series! Awesome sound!
Wow! What a blast that would be to take down the quarter.
11,000 rpm with such a long crank stroke is insane! Wow, those Honda motors are impressive pieces of engineering.... a tame k27 s2000 would be a sweet daily driver!
100k? lmao no
cody colina american white boy logic; small motors with high power levels can't last long because they're not v8s mayun I telya whutt.
If honda made production v8s, they'd put MERIKUHH to shame. At least honda doesn't need foreign influence on how to properly make power like gm uses opel(the LSJ engine).
cody colina while it's possible, I doubt that. I also said production cars not f1 cars. Honda has never needed help building their engines but they have supplied their engines as race engines.
lol V8 idiots only focusing on the power figure... This car is only meant to go fast, and it does that very well. Adding lightness is a concept you clearly haven't heard of! And getting that much power from such a small engine WITHOUT boost or nitrous is freakin amazing!
This car is absolutely incredible.
You look like a bloody giant standing in front of that civic
Fantastic video!
Nice 9.6 in quarter mile that's quick for a N/A 🖒🖒🖒 awesome build.
an n/a 2.7l....
400hp n/a 4 banger. And people talk shit about Honda's.
Please change your smoke alarm battery.
Well spotted! Took us a while to figure out what those random high pitched beeps were LOL
Well, it's a good thing to know with all those Hondas in there ;)
haha im sitting here thinking its mine
2 minutes in and I was about to say that to but saw this first
that shifter should be on display in an art gallery
that is the best sounding honda i ever heard.
Scotty looks like he just pick that engine out and walk away with it
The size difference is hilarious lmaoooo
Tuning fork making Dave look like a dwarf!
Standing next to Tuning Fork most people look height-challenged.
Haltech I'm not sure how his IQ stays sharp giving the low oxygen levels in low earth orbit.
He's had a wideband O2 sensor implanted in his chest to ensure his brain continually gets the right mixture.
it alerts him when the oxygen level gets too low so he can inhale deeper....
What??? I thought his brain is a Elite ECU
You guys should consider doing sit down interviews. the height difference is hilarious to watch. lol
We have done. The sit-down format is far less dynamic though, especially when you're talking about race cars and going through all the components.
ruclips.net/video/MF92oWcAXu4/видео.html
oh my, that sound :D
Love jdm yard.good to see a all motor build as everyone goes turbo.im wanting stage 2 cams, spring and retainers and itbs to run 12s in street trim on k20a jdm dc5.long live honda
Sounds like a sportbike...DAMN!!!
That guy is a honda
I've always want to do a K-swap MX-5 (Miata).
I didn't realise they could get so powerful NA.
Honda is the Best Engine manufacturer in the world, hands down.
Ricer84 D And god said, let there be Hondas
Except for recent Formula 1 engines.
Ricer84 D but that's not true though
ask Fernando alonso about that.
joe kanitz are you sure about that?
what a sick car.
This video just makes me want to Kswap my MX5... gotta resist..
Scott can we please get a feature on your Evo?
Awesome!!!🍴
That was really cool 👌🏻 The Elite family of ECUs are at home on street car setups, to amateur street/strip weekend warriors all the way to the extreme professional Pro Mod engine programs which utilize the Elite as an electronic engine management solution but also for the absolute control in power management and power delivery.
LOL @ Dave's intro. :'D
The short guy had no problem opening the hood.
hes so tall he makes the honda guy look like a child haha:p
It's Tuning Fork!
mcm brought me here:)
I'd really like if you could go into details about headers tuning for a n/a engine. I can see this one has a venturi and would like to know more
ok in a few months ill order parts , im swapping my pos 1zz for a k20 out of an rsx , or integra for you guys. i want the itb setup and the stack out the rear lid. i live in Florida so you could drive that civic as a daily here. was running a straight pipe on my and my wife's minis. never got a ticket ...at least not for sound lol
1763.7 shit man that's paper light. my competently striped r56 mini was still 2200lbs
I wonder if you could set up the load sensing gear knob for rev matching.
When you realize he fits normally in a race seat and that Dave is some sort of genetic anomaly.
We think Scott is the genetic anomaly :p
oh yeah, that sorta contradicts what you said before... I caught you in a lie!
What fuel does it run? Also what's the compression ratio?
holychit tuningfork is a giant!
My question is how much torque does a built k24 with a k20 head, strong pistons and rods make, natural and boosted? The HP numbers are great but no one talks torque pull..
So K-series is mounted in the opposite way as the B-series? (with regards to intake & exhaust)
+Haltech What fuel does it run? Also what's the compression ratio?
i want that! xD
but i guess i want every car in there workshop
Question for Haltech, at that kind of RPM wouldn't you need to also consider additional counter balances and weights to keep the k27's custom crankshaft as balanced as possible?
Honda's i4s already have extremely high piston speeds at stock RPM, like in a K20 or D17 or... basically everything. Yet. this was a K24, a STROKED K20, with even more stroke to 2.7l, revving almost 2x as fast with an even longer stroke than a lot of Honda's undersquare designs that already are close to max piston/rod speeds/Gs. These exotic builds, especially a 4cyl like this can't do anything about balance and probably don't care much, though this engine on paper seems to defy physics if it revs anywhere near the almost 12k as quoted.
I saw it run a 1/4 at 9.6/137mph and it didn't sound like it revved over 10k IMO, I'm also pretty skeptical that it's 'all-motor' at 400hp wheel in a NA 2.7 and not running a stealth Nitrous rig given all the shit in that engine bay
That size difference lols
Awesome
The height difference is just cracking me up the entire video haha
Haha, yep there was no hiding it
will it fit in moog's honda though?
no turbo or supercharge? damn.!! nice build
Yep, all motor:)
now i know why its called the land down under
What's the paint color for this car?
You all should watch some german hillclimb "bergrennen" videos if you like high rev engines.
WE LOVE THOSE!!
rad
yeah, definitely
Well thats the short and the tall of it I guess.
Scott can you tone it down get it tone it down lol Dave put a TURBO on that Kseries
Why they use aluminium rods? (lets say instead of titanium rods) are they better at high RPM or something?
Harindu Gamlath Diminishing returns price wise. Also at 11k rpm most of the limit is found in piston mean speed and valve springs.
what a nasty build, cheers from the u.s.
How is the 5 widebands connected to ecu ?
Could have showed the tach while revving. For all we know, that shiet was 6,000rpm.
Why do you only review short people?
Most of the people we interview are about average. It appears that way because Scott is super tall, so anyone even slightly below average height looks positively tiny.
I want that engine in my morris mini!
when you do let us know!
I'll bring my b16a mini in once it's done and road legal
what computer do you recommend for 2004 k24a3 manual transmission?
The Elite 1000 or 1500 models will run these engines quite well.
Fastest, in a straight line.
Lean
What was the biggest hurdle you guys had to clear in order to make this car as light and as fast as possible?
Probably the shitload of money and testing that goes in to making a FWD tin can launch like a funny car. Power is relatively simple with enough money, testing and finding the best trans/launch setup is pretty much what Drag racers actually chase
@@Demoralized88 waited 6 years for an answer thx
hey Haltec guys I need a ecm for an 85 toyota 22re 4runner
With the 22RE being a relatively simple system you could use an Elite 550 or Elite 750 in this vehicle depending on what features you would like to use.
thanks
that damn chirp, buy a 9 volt
How drivable would it be for daily use?
It's a purpose built drag car so not really intended for street use. Having said that, the engine itself would make a street-driven Civic very quick indeed.
Thanks for the reply
Daarda.
I should have lowered the volume on my speakers. Now I have no speakers.
someone please change the battery in that "beeping" smoke alarm!
tHE ACCENT SOMEHOW MAKES THE BUILD SEEM LESS INSANE THAN IT IS
Whose engine & specs please
Change the battery in your smoke detector.
No, I'm gonna take mine out right now.
how tall is dave? or how tall are you?
Scott is very, very tall.
OooooMyyyyy😄🤛🙏👍
Does ole mates femur connect to his ankle because he looks f short.
Nah, Scott is just freakishly tall.
Lol'd uncontrollably when I read this comment! LMAO!!!!!!
HOW TALL IS THAT GOOF?
Anyone else's Siri pop up when he said k-series at 2:56. Bit weird.
Jarrod Yight k Siri vs k series . Sound similar ?
Sounded like a Harley when it first started. lol
No vtec on this one im guessing?
get the MCM guy to talk about it since they did a nice honda civic build as well.
67mil holy shit lol
What gen civic is this?
5th gen "eg" chassis
I don't understand how that car doesn't overheat with that tiny radiator and no airflow through it!
Its a drag car, it just needs to run for like 30 seconds
Definitely... Yeah definitely.... Definitely yeah yeah definitely....
Jokes aside great vid.
How tall is Scott? every interview looks like a giant lol
Scott is a tad over 2m tall.
Can i put a k motor in a SSS?
You can put any motor in pretty much anything with enough time, money, and smarts.
Here in Greece we have a similar Honda but with a little less horsepower running 10,3secs...BTW tuning fork is tall he makes the other person to look like a midget
King Whispa but nowhere to drive because greek roads hahahaha
In South Africa they run 9,3 in 2016...
sounds like he's high lol
Frodo. Baggins has an allmotor car
How do you decide on the size of the TB’s? I’ve never seen any science behind that. Do builders rely on the velocity of the runners and ignore the throttle body size. On a drag car it might make sense i guess because it’s an on off switch. So They just put big ass throttle bodies on it and as long as it’s out of the way on full open the runner will maintain the needed velocity in the charge at peak power. But if you think about it. If you put a bit of work into dropping the bore down maybe you could reduce stall a bit on the lower rpm and increase low end torque while still staying out of the way all the way up top.... just a thought not sure if the math holds up.
Also he said 400 and tuning fork said to the wheels can you confirm that? On pump or e85 I️ don’t this I’ve ever seen that much to the ground. Maybe to the engine but not to the wheels. But I️ could be wrong just curious . Love you guys!
