Fellas, after revisiting the card I can verify that: *Halo 5* is still working, and continues to work absolutely fine. *Forza 6* However has been updated and refuses to start, this is the case for all Fermi based cards Sorry for any inconvenience, and I do still recommend buying this card, especially for its DX11 Performance more so than DX12. Hope this update was helpful, strange thinking that this video was made when I had about 500 subs.
Ok so I'm now 100%sure my cpu bottle necks. I have a gtx 1060 3gb and a AMD athalon x4 860k black edition and with the same settings in gta I get the same frames but lows its 6fps once for some reason it hella lowed out normally it's at 40 to 60 range, but with my laptop which has a i7 and the gtx 1060 6gb I get over 90 fps on gta with same settings. any idea what I should upgrade my cpu to. I was thinking AMD ryzen 5 1600
yeah it is still a really decent card even now, I did actually get this card after watching this video since it seemed really intresting and it is definitly my favorite card I ever got, it sure gets loud with the fan at 5160RPM but it still runs any game that it can boot with the outdated drivers( to bad Nvidia doesnt support cards better). but if you are on a very tight budget this could be a great card considering it was only 20 euros for me and it does run nearly any game I want it to with atleast a console like experience
trotman000: I have no idea man, just opt for an R7 250 or HD7750 they're virtually the same card, and much easier to find. If your PC is solely for Emulation buy a used HD6450... even that can emulate anything upto the Wii.
I think a lot of people are scared of cleaning computer parts. Whats the worst that could happen. Maybe you could burn your house down. Forget I said anything.
Come on man, don't leave a love sign on that comment, that is just an attack on nvidia! I like AMD better too but come on! :P (I cant watch the vid yet, will do later.)
I had a GTS450 as my first gaming card. Being that's fairly similar to the GTX465 it's nice to see about how it would've held up if I didn't upgrade to a 760 and then a 1050ti.
Just found the channel and I have to say that it is very very nice :) I subbed.. Anyway, this goes to show that the past 7 years less has changed than in the 7 years before this card launched.. This actually is good for our wallets but less good for the progression of gaming in general..
This is my exact card which I've had for several years. I got Doom working on medium settings at 1080p with 30fps by turning off motion blur. I could upgrade but I don't need anything better.
subbed bro, i actually buy lots of use parts for enjoyment and then change often, hope your chan hits the big time, :) don't forget me when you're famous
It's funny how all these console plebs always talk about how you have to spend "1k a year" to keep a PC running good. I'm still rocking my 650ti and it performs well, same goes for this video. (Tomorrow I get my 980Ti :) )
i bought 780 just before few months in very cheap price due to dx11 issue i had 280gtx evga ssc and it was so satisfying until games started to come up with dx11 requirement
You doing the 2900 would be interesting, the much delayed first ATI DX10 card. It was a weird point in history, with the Xenos GPU people assumed they'd be a head, but they launched much behind the 8800, and with worse performance.
Some tips - If you have tar or grease on the heatsink, soak and clean it with isopropyl alcohol. It completely dissolves things like that and it's super cheap! I got a litre of it for a fiver on amazon :)
TheRailroad99: depending on whether if his card has all the mem chips the 470 has it will be a big boost. +256MB ram, a good amount more mem bandwidth, more shaders. Also, Fermi card bioses are very nicely moddable, he could try undervolting the 2D clock state to 0.825V (lowest the controller will let the card go and for the 50MHz the 2D state is it is more than enough, actually 0.825V could run 400MHz+ based on my testings so plenty for 2D) and 3D state voltages to his tested minimum. Would be funny seeing it running unlocked to a 470, consuming less than as a 465 and being 10C+colder. :D
Great video I just subbed your channel. I used to have a GTX 580 3GB version @922Mhz it was a beast and ran warm unless you did custom fan profile. Oh who am I kidding it still ran at 70-73c but never throttled from the 922Mhz. It played everything I threw at it right up until I got the GTX 680 4GB version. In some aspects the 680 felt like a lesser card. It seemed to have the jitters in some games but the 580 would play them fine. Example: FarCry 4.
For the money Fermi is still pretty good if you get one with at least 1.5GB or better frame buffer, these cards will be sought after for XP era retro gaming due to the drivers on newer cards giving horrendous performance. Managed a GTX 590 last year for $30 but sadly it needs and oven bake.
Oven baking graphics cards... Oh that brings back memories. I remember my Radeon X800 GTO suffering from artifacting I couldn't figure out. Forget about it - oven baking made it like new again. Major cleaning, new thermal paste and on we go. That was of the most successful oven baking fixes ever. It's like 6-8 years and it still works like a charm.
Dude your videos are awesome. Love the reviews on the legacy pc hardware. Please make one on the AMD HD4650 GPU. I miss the times when that GPU was awesome.
For my birthday I've decided to 'treat' myself to a budget build and I'll be honest alcohol influenced some of my purchase choices. I went with a XEON X5460 CPU, Gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3 motherboard, , 8GB DDR2 RAM, and a MSI GTX 760 (2gb). A 500w AeroCool PSU (never heard of them but they claim to be 80+ certified) and a cheap case from CiT. Channels such as your own have inspired me to see if I can put together something decent on a low budget. I'm currently at £202.50. I have a spare 1tb laptop hard drive, which from a browse on eBay seems to go for around £40. So with a cheap keyboard and mouse from Wilkos and using unactivated Windows 10, I should be safe to come in under the £250 mark. Sorry for rambling on, my real life friends have no interest in the building side of PC gaming.
Love these kinds of videos where old hardware is re tested. Imagine in 4+ years people will be testing what once was a killer gpu gtx 970 or a 980ti performing as good as the 1350ti in the future 😂😂
call me a purist but I really wouldn't consider 30 average all that playable due to the fact that for many titles that low framerate is not only far too distracting but usually will have quite a lot 1% lows making the game have a really bad stutter and breaking immersion. also for anything with a competitive element having lower then 60 is a disadvantage so I would say MINIMUM 60 for any competative would be considered "playable" I have a beast of a system GTX 1080 TI hybrid and 8700k with 64gb ram but I still really love your videos just because I love tech. Keep it up man!
I know this was a while ago, but sometimes with these 400 series cards the thermal paste under the IHS dries up and needs to be replaced. I was informed of this problem from an F2F video.
Are you planning to use .1 and .01 lows in your reviews at some point? Great video, but I also like to know how a card "feels" while playing. I could always tell something was going on through the years of gameplay (started in 1986 with a C64. Holy crap that was a long time ago :o )that every card, every device felt different at the same framerate and settings. I finally found that metric for me and it's the lows. Not a deal breaker, I am still Subbing directly after posting this. Just want to know. Great job otherwise! Thanks!
Cant wait to see reviews for the next gen GTX 1180. Althought 1280 is supposed to be even better but the 1380 will be the real next gen architecture GPU deal.
Seems like a good choice for a windows XP retro-gaming PC. Less than 60 FPS isn't really acceptable in anything; it wasn't before the 90's, when sprite- and character-based graphics hardware gave you solid 60 FPS with super low latency that feels better than 144 FPS on a modern PC (racing the beam on a CRT with no display lag compared with double buffering + worse than ~10 ms display lag on the best gaming LCD money can buy). When sprite limits were exceeded you would get flicker, but only when raster time was not enough to do calculation would you get slowdown (and frequent slowdowns was a cause to really mark a game down). Slowdown also did not behave like 30 FPS in a modern game, it gave you more time to think instead of skipping frames, which was necessary because the focus on skill and mastery was so high. It was a brief bubble of early 3D graphics beginning in the late 80's on mostly the Amiga and Atari ST and ending in the late 90's where much less than 60 FPS was considered good enough. Gameplay was dumbed down to the point where you could play it at 5-30 FPS or whatever you could reliably hit on the targeted hardware. On the PC games started being designed to accomodate hardware much faster than the game was designed to run on. So when you got a new PC, Wolfenstein 3D, Quake or whatever would no longer struggle at 20 FPS or whatever, but stay at a rock solid 75. It would look so far superior you wondered how you could ever play it before. In the early 00's gamers on PC discovered just how good games could look on a CRT with >100 Hz refresh rates and how much better they played in competitive multiplayer. Console owners could not replay their favourites on much better hardware and discover just how night-and-day the difference was and developers were quite happy designing games to look good in screen shots, on TV, and other promotional material designed for 30 FPS. This is why consoles never grew out of their 30 FPS rut. But as I said, this is just not acceptable on PC.
Would love to see temps shown after say 20 mins of gaming/benchmarks before the cleaning process and then temps for after with new paste and cleaning. What product do you use to clean the old paste off? Thanks
The high 200W max power consumption makes it less feasible in Europe where electricity costs are higher. A newer card will pay for itself in energy savings.
You should test titles like overeatch and league of legends as well since they should run good on these cards, also in csgo higher the framerate the better so even people with 1060's play at 1080 p low sets. or 1440p low sets.
Weren't the GTX 460 and 465 amazing overclockers? I seem to remember that you could get most of those cards at least into the ballpark of a stock 560 Ti or even 570.
Although the video card may perform adequately for the games that it can handle, most used GTX 465 cards are over twice the price and even triple the price you quoted. It's sad because when the pricing gets over the 40 dollar level then you don't look at these cards but rather look at the latest Nvidia GT710 to GT730 video cards just because of the pricing levels alone.
Some of these cards can actually be BIOS flashed to a GTX 470. You might want to look into that because if this one is capable of that, it really would be the bargain of the century for the £10 you spent.
I think about this kind of thing when people complain about video card prices. Hey, if you can't afford a new card don't be afraid of getting an older card!
Fellas, after revisiting the card I can verify that:
*Halo 5* is still working, and continues to work absolutely fine.
*Forza 6* However has been updated and refuses to start, this is the case for all Fermi based cards
Sorry for any inconvenience, and I do still recommend buying this card, especially for its DX11 Performance more so than DX12.
Hope this update was helpful, strange thinking that this video was made when I had about 500 subs.
Do you still have it? It'd be interesting yo see if it's got the 470 RAM chips and if you can mod the bios to run it as a 470.
Fermi has DX12?
...I use kepler :(
@@stylze5767 it's not worth it. Get 2600.
yeah it is still a really decent card even now, I did actually get this card after watching this video since it seemed really intresting and it is definitly my favorite card I ever got, it sure gets loud with the fan at 5160RPM but it still runs any game that it can boot with the outdated drivers( to bad Nvidia doesnt support cards better).
but if you are on a very tight budget this could be a great card considering it was only 20 euros for me and it does run nearly any game I want it to with atleast a console like experience
it's so satisfying to watch a graphics card being cleaned
Daniel Lee: You're god damn right ;)
your*
i know it was a joke lmao
dude chill
Daniel Lee same for me
0:26 I made a mistake in the editing, sorry the card is a GTX465, my bad guys.
Budget-Builds Official Where could I find a HD 8670? There are none on eBay.
trotman000: I have no idea man, just opt for an R7 250 or HD7750 they're virtually the same card, and much easier to find.
If your PC is solely for Emulation buy a used HD6450... even that can emulate anything upto the Wii.
Budget-Builds Official Thanks. Not worried about the Wii, more the PS2.
trotman000: Want me to do a HD6450 Emulation Test?
why not but i've heard that emulation is more cpu bound
keep up the content Man! you're getting big really quick
Daniel Tobin: Thanks dude, cheers for staying around
Why does this sounds kinda .... I dont know xD
i've stumbled to this channel and i must say, this is top notch work! Well narrated, informative, and pleasant to watch. I hope you'll be big soon :D
P.S. I hope for a collab between you and RandomGamingInHD ;)
I'd hope to do that one day too
Just found your channel, This stuff is great!!! Keep making videos man. I subbed
thumbs up for the rimworld music !
nope you just lost the bet !
what about the kelpy G jazz
Very nice video. Keep up the good work. Big fan of your vids :)
I think a lot of people are scared of cleaning computer parts. Whats the worst that could happen. Maybe you could burn your house down. Forget I said anything.
Good thing I live in a wooden shed...right?
more likely to burn it down if you don`t clean it perhaps ? heh
Retro Tech 100 ok
Every time I open my computer case, something break
I’m sick of seeing “no boot device” whenever i take something out of my system, and it really scared me for a second
Fermi can use DX12?
Jeez NoVideo trying nuclear bombs for real now!
Come on man, don't leave a love sign on that comment, that is just an attack on nvidia! I like AMD better too but come on! :P
(I cant watch the vid yet, will do later.)
kakoka1pro: Ayymd Master Race, but to even it out a GTX480 + FX9590 = The fires of hell.
Not just a fire, The end of the world perhaps?
Fermi was always a furnace. Nobody can argue that point. 200 watts is ridiculous!
hi chillius ;)
4:39 ninja defuse without smoke? very nice
JaysonTM Hey your in Alec's discord.
Funny seeing you here lol
Ah, damn, it's been my card since 2011! My love is burning hot for this thing, thanks for covering it!
Immense Data: Glad you enjoyed it dude
I love the remixed Kelpy G background music :)
I had a GTS450 as my first gaming card. Being that's fairly similar to the GTX465 it's nice to see about how it would've held up if I didn't upgrade to a 760 and then a 1050ti.
Never heard of an GTX 645 but good to know that it exists :)
Haha
The Rimworld music brings back so many memories of ups and downs in that game.
Lovely Rimworld music background. I love it!
nice furnace replacement
Just wait for the 375W Vega if we are to believe the latest leaks
or the gtx 1080ti msi lightning (about 300+W)
Just found the channel and I have to say that it is very very nice :) I subbed..
Anyway, this goes to show that the past 7 years less has changed than in the 7 years before this card launched..

Pretty decent, Well done m8, gr8 as always ♥
Love the rimworld music in the background!
i love the music you use in your videos! Rimworlds! :D
You are such an underated youtuber Nice video tho
Liked because of rimworld soundtrack, great vid!
subbed bro, i actually buy lots of use parts for enjoyment and then change often, hope your chan hits the big time, :) don't forget me when you're famous
Will do 'Rana Akbar'

si Waste of 100.
They don't even know the specks in their system

so satisfying to watch you clean that card...
Aww yeah, gtx 465! Haven't seen one of these bad boys in a while. Great video as usual!
I loved the card...I forgot it was in my system it was that nice
You look like you could be Sean Penn's younger brother, cheers for the video mate!
That was a perfect opportunity to show how much cleaning the card could improve thermals etc...
Great vid. U can also flash most of these to gtx 470 unlocking extra shaders + vRAM (1280mb)
Nice use of Rimworld OST :D
Thanks, the only game I ever play is CS:GO and I was looking for a cheap GPU to go with it!
Great video and good content
I love how even his furnaces look like they came from the boot fair
you can unlock some 465 cards to a 470, try it! www.overclock.net/t/745228/gtx465-to-full-gtx470-flashing-guide
Will look into it :D
Was going through comments to see if anyone adviced this already. :)
if you suceed it would be really nice to make a video about it... would be interesting to see how the modded card i performing against the vanilla one

'Graphics cards are expensive due to miners' Its gone full cycle
I got a gtx470 for 8 quid, a year ago from cex, sometimes you just luck out on that site, also nice video. :)
damn i was just listening the the rimworld soundtrack and played your video and though i had left the tab open.
Great video I just subbed your channel. I used to have a GTX 580 3GB version @922Mhz it was a beast and ran warm unless you did custom fan profile. Oh who am I kidding it still ran at 70-73c but never throttled from the 922Mhz. It played everything I threw at it right up until I got the GTX 680 4GB version. the cooling desing was amazing have to say for a budget card in the time it got out had one like that 50c max on 30c ambient
Dude your videos are awesome. Love the reviews on the legacy pc hardware. Please make one on the AMD HD4650 GPU. I miss the times when that GPU was awesome.

nice cpu choice, should be quite a nice rig :)
Funny how in three years mining is a problem again and now these cost nearly $50.
Ikr..some people even sell it for more than 50$ in my country
Another good video. Keep it up!
Continues to look up gtx 465. Can't find one for less than €90.
out of stock at the moment but cex have them for £15

What about 1440 Ti?
The Rimworld music made my day..
I'm still using my PNY GTX 470 and it does fairly good!
back when 1000 subscribers was a milestone

was wondering why the music sounded familer then it hit me, god I love rimworld
nice video, glad i subbed c:
im surprise that the GTX 465's performance was so slow. I still recall playing crysis on my GTS 250 back in the days

Mate your growing 1,000 subs a day
I love how the tube of thermal paste probably cost as much as the card.
I like the intro tho putting money in a stove and closing it and opening it again and free gpu XD
I love this channel!!!
Cant wait to see reviews for the next gen GTX 1180. Althought 1280 is supposed to be even better but the 1380 will be the real next gen architecture GPU deal.
this comment aged like really warm milk
I had this card in my upgraded optiplex and it ended up Litteraly frying and blowing up.
Riley Stanish Oh dear. What have you got in it now?
Riley Stanish yeah a 200w gpu on an optiplex with 300w psu is a pretty bad idea
trotman000 I have a gtx 1060 6gb now.
LagiohX3 lol it was upgraded. I changed the psu to a 750 watt.
750 is way overkill, my quad rx470 mining rig needs a 750w psu
Seems like a good choice for a windows XP retro-gaming PC. funny how we thought 2017 prices were bad xD
You get a sub cause Rimworld music.
Why don't you have ten times the sub?
You can flash the gtx470 bios and get more power from that card!
how this card can run gta v FHD and high but other games on low ?
magic
Light Knight GTA V is pretty simple game, you can even play it with 9500GT.
Its a CPU intensive game.
as far as I know
It is a very cpu bound game but his cpu was undoubtedly bottlenecks by the gpu
It's mad what this thing can run for so cheap
Don’t think you can sneak a Kelpy G classic past me
Would love to see temps shown after say 20 mins of gaming/benchmarks before the cleaning process and then temps for after with new paste and cleaning.
What product do you use to clean the old paste off? Thanks
Ryan Cooper: Solvent spray and a Micro Fibre Cloth.
It's weird how old thermal paste gets baked in like that, saw it happen on my xbox 360
The high 200W max power consumption makes it less feasible in Europe where electricity costs are higher. A newer card will pay for itself in energy savings.
This music is perfect
Its amazing what a clean can do for frame rates
fuc all i suspect lol 30fps for forza 6 using 200watts thats horseshit lol
So, what you're saying, the older the gpu, the less watts it uses? Cool, then this one should use 2 watts.
Lol rimworld soundtrack, thats pretty cool
I came for the background music.
you should try sli with it to see what sort of numbers it can achieve
After rewatching the video I realized you called Fermi Thermi 🤣🤣
cool :-) Spend 15€ and wait until Vega or cheaper RX 580. Nice Idea :-)

+fturla ___: This is far better than a GT710/730 I can assure you.
Every time I hear miners referenced in a GPU video I still think "those damned kids..." before I remember it is miners, not minors.
Some of these cards can actually be BIOS flashed to a GTX 470. You might want to look into that because if this one is capable of that, it really would be the bargain of the century for the £10 you spent.
I still have GTS450 1gb and it still play games in 2018 :)
Some Point of View 465's could be bios-modded to 470, since they were simply 470's with 465 bios. :)
edit: Ah, it was on earlier comments already.
Nice video again!
Thanks Man, Nice to see you round, i'm available on Twitter aswell now :D
Ugh, I always notice Kelpy G when it is playing. Good vid though.
After watching your vids, I purchased a GTX560Ti for $15.
I used to smoke next to my gts450, unknown advantages of an in case dual fan
Your dog is lovely
I think about this kind of thing when people complain about video card prices. Hey, if you can't afford a new card don't be afraid of getting an older card!
cool video just a question how good overclocker is it? and how much more performance can you squeeze out of it ??
TDP is not the power draw.TDP is thermal design power on how much heat the card puts out.
