How Skill Beat Size: Small MMA Fighter Defeats Big Kungfu Fighter - Nam Phan vs Khai Tran

  • In this very interesting case study of style vs style, fighter vs fighter, let's look at what happens when a very big and fit Kungfu guy in his 50s (Khai Tran) representing Vietnamese Hung Gar (Hong Gia) takes on a smaller MMA pro fighter in his 30s (Nam Phan). The fight goes two rounds, and in our opinion, should have been stopped much earlier. With that being said, the Kung Fu guy does pretty well and should have just protected his face more. For those of you who watch this, please leave your comments and let us know what you think! Also, if Khai or Nam see this, we would love to hear your thoughts and find out more about the background behind this! Also, we found out what happened to Khai after this, so if anyone can get us in touch with Khai, we would really want to follow his recovery! • To My Hong Gia Viet Na...

    This is so far the best Kung Fu guy to fight an MMA guy video. Although, the kung fu guy used zero Kung Fu, just threw normal-ish punches. Good kicks and elbows as stated. • @MysticNinjaJay
      @MysticNinjaJay 4 года назад +4

      @Bud Borne The guy who fought Xu Xiaodong looked like he was doing Wing Chun. His style was simply very sloppy. This "Kung Fu Master" just looked like an aggressive brawler using his size to his advantage and coming at Nam Phan with his hands down. He didn't throw many kicks and that is what people typically associate with Kung Fu. The reason that most of the "masters" in these MMA vs. Kung Fu videos don't look like Cung Le when they fight is because they don't do full-contact sparring. If you did you would know to keep your hands up when you fight. When you train in a kwoon doing forms and practice punching and kicking the air instead of sparring you will look very ineffective when you get in to a real fight.

    • @MysticNinjaJay
      @MysticNinjaJay 4 года назад +1

      Bud Borne I agree. I will add that I feel that many Kung Fu styles teach impractical technique. If you look at Cung Le his fighting style is basically Kickboxing with flashy Kung Fu kicks. He started Martial Arts learning Kung Fu and Tae Kwon Do then trained in San Shou. San Shou is kickboxing with throws which has its own techniques derived from different Kung Fu styles such as sweeps and combos that San Shou fighters developed. This is effective Kung Fu for combat sport. Most Wing Chun practitioners will do a lot of arm flailing not only because of lack of sparring but because they are not learning something practical.

      What cretins like you don't understand is that true and properly practised kung fu allows the practitioner to use their opponents weight and size against them. The Nam dude (the 'mma' fighter) has a big background in traditional Vietnamese kung fu and had mastered this technique and this is the true selling point of the video. All of you plebs have been fooled, this video actually shows kung fus dominance. The kung fu guy was actually disadvantaged by his larger size and the guy masquerading as an 'mma' fanboi is actually a kung fu master and bodied him with his supreme kung fu.

The kung fu guy had never sparred in his life this was actually supposedly to be a sparring match but the kung fu guy took the invite as a personal insult. He didn’t understand the idea of sparing and he felt like he was an absolutely superior fighter even though he had not sparred even once. Look up,Peterson’s grappling for the interview.

      I love watching those style vs style matchups on youtube (I mean, who doesn't ?), it's really one of my favourite thing ever, but I've yet to find a reliable way to find reliable info about each of these match. It's so interesting, yet I haven't found someone dedicating enough time to it. Everytime you see one of these wacky "style vs style" matches, you've got to watch about 5 other videos of the same fight, until you find a youtuber who really explains the context in details. Sometimes Fight Commentary Breakdown does it, but most of the time he just plays a video, and is wondering what's happening just like us.
      So my question is : Does someone know of a channel, or website, where they regularly talk about the latest fights of this kind, and breakdown precisely what's the background of each fighter, what's their supposed level, their age, why are they fighting, under what rules are they fighting, and super important stuff like that ? A bit like Fight Commentary Breakdown, but with just slightly more effort ?
      It's really important for the internet to find a go to channel or website for that, as soon as possible, so much misinformation gets spread around by clickbait youtube videos that don't explain anything of the context.

      @True WingChun bro u would get checked so fast in my gym 100%. There are no KF masters cuz KF doesnt work.
      KF simply does not offer the tools necessary to compete against an MMA fighter.
      Ive trained both KF and MMA. I trained both at very reputable gyms for a number of years and KF simply does not work.
      If your skill is so great that you cant use it on anyone for fear of crippling or killing them, what good is it? You cant control it? Guess what happens with a RNC if u dont tap? U die....
      Again, MMA guys are very capable of controlling their technique and not crippling or killing people, why are KF masters unable to?
      Heres the problem my guy... There are 1000s of videos of KF guys getting absolutely smashed by MMA guys, there are no videos of the opposite. Guys like Master wong dodge any challenge that comes their way.
      If your art is so complicated and takes so long to master that no one can do it.... THEN ITS USELESS!!! MMA doesnt take years of ur life and it actually works.

      Dude we have KF guys come through my MMA gym weekly.... I see guys like you who are so invested in KF that you believe all the BS about all the mystic powers and super fighting skills...
      Like I said, you could simply prove it by going and videoing you dropping some of the MMA guys u say u dropped.

    There was no Chinese Boxing of any style in this. Big Asian dude is a good street fighter that's all. The reason he lost is that he lacked athleticism, stamina and endurance. The thing with mma fighters is if your a good Kung Fu fighter or even street fighter, if you don't knock them out in the first few rounds, you gas and once you gas, your done. Cause athleticism is the secret of MMA. Without athleticism most MMA fighters would be ineffective because sports like Boxing take a high level of fitness to work. Either way he should've been prepared! Best man won!

    • @Krypteian
      @Krypteian 5 лет назад

      Wrong. The secret to MMA is pressure-testing and developing effective skills that actually work. Sparring to develop timing, distancing, analyzing cues, defense/offense techniques, footwork etc. Generalizing MMA down to conditioning neglects its superior technical advantages over most traditional arts.

    I don’t understand, even I (some artist) was doing some Kung fu routines and EACH strike had the other hand SIMULTANEOUSLY go up protecting the side of the head down to solar plexus, and this Kung fu guy does NOTHING of the sort, not even once!!! I mean Benny the Jet is a perfect example of how one should apply (at least instinctively) some strategies!

      Benny the Jet is awesome!

    • @RosssRoyce
      @RosssRoyce 5 лет назад

      Anthony Ng It was I think some sort of bajiquan form where before each strike you smash a flat, outstretched forward foot to the ground (like you want to raise dust), keep the stomped foot on ground and taking step while transferring the weight to the stomped foot. At the same time the impulse created by the stomped foot is channeled through the body which strikes with the fist opposite side of the stomped foot(you know how in terms to pivot pelvis together with jab you need to use the opposite foot pushing on ground). Simultaneously with the strike, the opposite arm of the striking arm makes a lightning speed (just as punch) sweep from passing vertical (elbow down) in front of solar plexus to finishing protecting the whole side of the head, palm flat and outwards, forearm parallel to ground or even rather slanted a little (elbow back and higher than palm). Every single step/strike was just like that. It was a very simple form consisting in doing this while turning to all directions or making a few advancing steps or a few steps backwards. I found here a screen capture of an app that at around the1min29 time mark executes very similar moves but only going backwards ruclips.net/video/Nqt8sl-nT3A/видео.html the rest of the form is very different.

    • @RosssRoyce
      @RosssRoyce 5 лет назад

      Anthony Ng lol yes, for sure! I had the feeling that he underestimated the other guy: he was definitely in a better physical form (besides stance) -the fact that he took many hits in the beginning didn’t lower his stamina! This definitely shows that he trains more regularly than the taller guy.
