Couple bonus clips at the end for those that are curious how crazy this wing is!

    Hello Foil Fanatic,
Could you give us the specs of your setup with the 1401?
I've got the 1401 setup with the 750 Red mast, and just changed the stabilizer from a short Black to a Ultrashort- Black Advanced +, today. This change made a world of difference in launching and ease of pumping. I've got a 460 Stabilizer, and got some crazy high speed with a rapid pump, but wondering about going down in size to reduce drag. Age 59, weight 172 lbs.
    I Dock foil:
Sabfoil Leviathan 1750 ( Super easy, slow turning, slow, little effort)
F1 Jam 1900 ( Fast, easy, smooth , perfect setup right out of box, close challenge to 1401)
Axis 1310 ( easy lots of front foot pressure, slow)
Slingshot infinity 99 (too much energy required for my weight)

Sounds like you have some nice setups! In this video my setup is the Dwarfcraft 100 Board, 75cm Alu mast, black ultrashort advanced+, 1401 front wing, and Skinny 50 rear wing.
A skinny rear compared to the 460 will make a ton of difference! The drag will go way down, it will be easier to gain height on the mast, but your cadence will go up. Hope this helps!

I’m into my 3rd season on the 1150 on a lake and still making incremental improvements, especially behind the boat. I’m still only about 50% success rate dock starting. I bought the 1401 paired with the advanced ultrashort fuse and 460 stab and have been unable to dock start with about 20 tries. It stalls when I jump and attempt the first pump. I don’t have this issue with the 1150. I’m thinking I’m just not going fast enough for my 205 lbs when I do my first pump after running and jumping on it. Such a fun and enduring challenge. Thank you for making these vids!

The 1401 is faster than the 1150, so you need a bit more speed to dockstart it. on top of that I would pair it with a skinny stab so it's harder to accelerate it once you're up!

I agree with Gael here, probably need a bit more speed and a skinny rear is super nice as you can climb faster and pump more efficiently. The skinny will increase your cadence, but the reduced drag is well worth it! My advice would be to stick with it and experiment with different launch speeds and trying to land with board as high as you can while keeping forward momentum.

@@gaeldanielethank you for the advice. I will order a skinny stab and give that a try. 👍

@@FoilFanatic42will do. Good stuff. Need to get a skinny stab and give it another go. Having too much fun on the 1150 right now. Pumped away from my boat and caught another boat’s wake today for the first time. Crazy fun.

@hollandcs That's killer! I've always wanted to try that and hopefully this summer I can since I've learned fo transfer wakes. The skinny is going to make the 1150 feel so much better. Excited to see your feedback!

If you’re heavy enough (>80kg) then the 1401 is killer AND turns well too (with advanced ultrashort and shorter…). I use it for everything (apart from prone) now: wing / paddle dw / dockstart.

I can definitely see that being the case! Even as a light rider (~65kg) I find that it is super agile for it's size. The 1180 is still more fun in terms of carving and turning, but the efficiency of the 1401 is super fun in it's own way.

Man the 1401 looks huge compared to the 1180. I'm surprised you found the 1401 easier to start than the 1180, I've heard the 1180 is easier. Which you figure is better to learn on? I assume you were using skinny 45 tail with both.

Coming from the PNG series, it took me a full session to get a successful launch with the 1180 and then quite a few more to get to a 100% launch rate. With the 1401 I have nearly a 100% launch rate right off the bat. To be fair, when I got the 1180, the fuse and skinny rear were also new to me and now I've had plenty of hours on that combo. Still the 1401 seems like it would be easier to learn for me due to it's low speed take off and less energy required to pump. Also, using a skinny 50. Hopefully this helps!

If you fall, how the hell do you get back up and get going again? Looks difficult

You have to hope you're near something to jump off of or it turns into swimming practice. It can be tough!

How does that fit under the dock

Luckily this is a floating dock and only sits a couple inches below the water.
