I thought for sure that you had turned this with the bottom at the wrong end. I'm happy to report that you changed my mind very quickly. Your experience proved to be more reliable than my foresight. I love it.
Take that scrap wood you would normally throw away and create something nice. I love it. I'm getting ready to do a video of a segmented bowl made from scrap pallets. Keep up the good work. Oh, love the ads.👍
As usually, beautiful project. I have a Laguna dust collector and really like it. The ease of emptying the collector is what drew me to it. Putting it together is a chore though, maybe have Rockler do it. 😀.
I don't have scrape wood, just small pieces used to make bigger pieces. LOL... I was tired of dust so I got a Laguna dust collector with a 1 micron canister filter. I think we all go through the bottom sometimes, just have to be creative and fix it. Not sure how to put photos here but I will try to send you some. I would be happy for you to see what I do, you are one of my idols. 🙂
Very nice, even scrap wood can be turned into something beautiful. Yes I have gone through the bottom as well. I ended up glueing a piece of maple to the bottom.I then poured resin in the bottom and cut a small cross out of paduk and placed it in the bottom. It turned out very nice. Ken
Very nice work. Yes I have managed to turn through he bottom. In fact just the other night. I also used Ax after I saw you using it and am very pleased with it.
I have said it before, but YOU make the neatest pieces!! I watch quite a few wood turners and they all make the same boring bowl shapes. I have to say that I have never gone through the bottom though, but I have yet to make a bowl, so........We do have a Jet vacuum system, it runs to every tool we have, planer, jointer, drum sander, lathe, table saw, and belt sander. Keep up the great works!!
To make something nice from what would otherwise be described as scrap I believe takes an Artist’s eye, which is something you have! Very nice indeed!!
Another great project! Thanks for sharing. I too have gone thorough the bottom of some projects. AKA, joining the “funnel” club! LOL…One project was a small bowl and to recover I cleaned up the bottom and glued some Walnut to the bottom of the Maple bowl. After finish turning, from the inside it reminded me of a compass point. So I began woodburning a decorative compass inside the bowl. It’s still not done yet as I haven’t perfected my fancy lettering yet for the N, S, E, and W letters. Someday I’ll finish it.
Not too shabby for a waste wood vase. You did a great job. Never have went through the bottom but have had a couple of vases explode trying to get that last pass done. Hope you have a great weekend and a good week. Keep up the great work.
Ads have become the norm and besides that, only a ignorant mind would make a complaint about such things especially on a artistic page. Support is support and ain't no two ways about it. Keep up the great work ❤️ I think I speak for most of us when I say we are truly here because we enjoy what you do.
Thanks for the video. I appreciate you talking through the steps, showing what grit sandpaper, and products you use. I have yet to start wood turning, but this type of video with instructions gives me a good idea of what it may be like. For dust collection, I use a Ridgid vacuum with the Home Depot bucket (I use two buckets stacked for rigidity) and the Home Depot dust collection “cap” that fits on the buckets. I have a very small shop so I just transfer the 4” hose to any tool I am using and then use for cleanup. It works very well and the total cost was under $100.
9:53 Just returned to turning after a year off. Great to see such good work by you and I need to see the products you use. Look forward to future videos. J G I.O.W. UK
I would love to see more scrap wood glue-ups and turns. I am just getting started with woodworking and am a beginner turner (took one semester of class, bought a mini Jet just like we used in class and now needing to get chisels and such), and I really would like to be able to use as much of my scrap wood from other projects as possible, including in turning, to beautiful gifts or small sellable objects!
That's a great vase, Peggy. Without you telling us or seeing the video, one would not guess it was from scrap. I've been a hobbyist woodworker for many years and I still have a 30+year old basic Jet single inlet D/C. I did, however, make my own cyclone to use ahead of the fan inlet to prevent any big pieces from going through the fan. It works well so I don't have to empty the bag very often. I highly suggest a cyclone for whatever you buy. Take care. Bill
nice project again Peggy, i have not gone through the bottom but i was doing the final cuts on a goblet and gone through the side of the cup the only thing i could do was fill it with clear resin.
I have a Rikon snail dust collector which works well with the Laguna 12/16. Once I move up to larger shop and bigger Laguna lathe, 18/16 or 24/26 will definitely be purchasing the P|flux:1
I'd love to be in the market for a dust collection system, but with my budget that means I might be getting a slightly better broom someday. my son (who lives with me) bought a lathe recently, and we have really been enjoying it. we both have some experience with a lathe, but are getting better with each new thing we try. thank goodness for found wood ;P
Hello, I do not speak English. I am sending a translation that a woman is interested in wood art. I love her because I love wood and people who show off their art with wood
Amazing… I’m 75 and just starting to turn when I retire. I like how you teach
Thanks!! Have fun with it!
Schön das auch Frauen dieses tolle Hobby betreiben. Schöne Arbeit aus Holzresten. 👍👍👍👍

You make it look so easy. Terrific job!
Thanks!!
Looks quite balanced proportionately especially where the darker wood is in the stack. It gives it good visual weight. Nice job for just winging it.
😊 thanks
Great looking turn Peggy. Also, nice choice putting the different colored woods at the bottom. It gave the piece good balance. Thanks, V
Thanks so much 😊
Great video, Peggy. Beautiful piece. Thanks for showing the chucking/de-chucking process this time.

I love watching woodtirning videos and someday I want to turn wood to make a cup I like to color of that red wood and I like that anyone can woodturn
Go for it.
Novice turner here. I would be interested in your taking off the tenon and finishing the tenon area as the conclusion to your work. Looks great!
Okay, thanks!

Scrap wood turning is the best ,cost no trees and uses waste wood that probably be burned and add to the air pollution. Makes a pretty vase .
Exactly!
Amazing in what you can turn scrabwood into Peggy. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video. 🌹
Thanks for watching!! ✌️
I don’t even think I’ve seen an ad Love you work always a joy to watch your videos

I have a grizzly system. It is a good value, but one thing I need and recommend is to add a cyclone particle separator to the intake.
Thanks for the info. I haven't checked out the grizzly ones yet.
Woow.... Great stuff 🙏😊
