I've turned for many years and still learn a great deal from you work and techniques. Thank your!!!
Take that scrap wood you would normally throw away and create something nice. I love it. I'm getting ready to do a video of a segmented bowl made from scrap pallets. Keep up the good work. Oh, love the ads.👍
I thought for sure that you had turned this with the bottom at the wrong end. I'm happy to report that you changed my mind very quickly. Your experience proved to be more reliable than my foresight. I love it.
I have said it before, but YOU make the neatest pieces!! I watch quite a few wood turners and they all make the same boring bowl shapes. I have to say that I have never gone through the bottom though, but I have yet to make a bowl, so........We do have a Jet vacuum system, it runs to every tool we have, planer, jointer, drum sander, lathe, table saw, and belt sander. Keep up the great works!!
Very nice, even scrap wood can be turned into something beautiful. Yes I have gone through the bottom as well. I ended up glueing a piece of maple to the bottom.I then poured resin in the bottom and cut a small cross out of paduk and placed it in the bottom. It turned out very nice. Ken
As usually, beautiful project. I have a Laguna dust collector and really like it. The ease of emptying the collector is what drew me to it. Putting it together is a chore though, maybe have Rockler do it. 😀.
Very nice work. Yes I have managed to turn through he bottom. In fact just the other night. I also used Ax after I saw you using it and am very pleased with it.
9:53 Just returned to turning after a year off. Great to see such good work by you and I need to see the products you use. Look forward to future videos. J G I.O.W. UK
To make something nice from what would otherwise be described as scrap I believe takes an Artist’s eye, which is something you have! Very nice indeed!!
Another great project! Thanks for sharing. I too have gone thorough the bottom of some projects. AKA, joining the “funnel” club! LOL…One project was a small bowl and to recover I cleaned up the bottom and glued some Walnut to the bottom of the Maple bowl. After finish turning, from the inside it reminded me of a compass point. So I began woodburning a decorative compass inside the bowl. It’s still not done yet as I haven’t perfected my fancy lettering yet for the N, S, E, and W letters. Someday I’ll finish it.
That's a great vase, Peggy. Without you telling us or seeing the video, one would not guess it was from scrap. I've been a hobbyist woodworker for many years and I still have a 30+year old basic Jet single inlet D/C. I did, however, make my own cyclone to use ahead of the fan inlet to prevent any big pieces from going through the fan. It works well so I don't have to empty the bag very often. I highly suggest a cyclone for whatever you buy. Take care. Bill
Not too shabby for a waste wood vase. You did a great job. Never have went through the bottom but have had a couple of vases explode trying to get that last pass done. Hope you have a great weekend and a good week. Keep up the great work.
I don't have scrape wood, just small pieces used to make bigger pieces. LOL... I was tired of dust so I got a Laguna dust collector with a 1 micron canister filter. I think we all go through the bottom sometimes, just have to be creative and fix it. Not sure how to put photos here but I will try to send you some. I would be happy for you to see what I do, you are one of my idols. 🙂
Thanks for the video. I appreciate you talking through the steps, showing what grit sandpaper, and products you use. I have yet to start wood turning, but this type of video with instructions gives me a good idea of what it may be like. For dust collection, I use a Ridgid vacuum with the Home Depot bucket (I use two buckets stacked for rigidity) and the Home Depot dust collection “cap” that fits on the buckets. I have a very small shop so I just transfer the 4” hose to any tool I am using and then use for cleanup. It works very well and the total cost was under $100.
I really like this vase. Simple but elegant. The different woods makes it exciting to me. I wonder what a barrel would look like with different woods. ?? Thank you so much for sharing.
I would love to see more scrap wood glue-ups and turns. I am just getting started with woodworking and am a beginner turner (took one semester of class, bought a mini Jet just like we used in class and now needing to get chisels and such), and I really would like to be able to use as much of my scrap wood from other projects as possible, including in turning, to beautiful gifts or small sellable objects!
nice project again Peggy, i have not gone through the bottom but i was doing the final cuts on a goblet and gone through the side of the cup the only thing i could do was fill it with clear resin.
I have a Rikon snail dust collector which works well with the Laguna 12/16. Once I move up to larger shop and bigger Laguna lathe, 18/16 or 24/26 will definitely be purchasing the P|flux:1
Very nice! I had a bowl I went too thin on the side near the bottom which I had to “rescue” with a filler, a lesson learned!! I really like segmented or glue ups like this!!
As always I enjoy your work - here using scraps which we all have in abundance to make something very nice. You also inspired me to experiment with applied stain colors and the results for me have been delightful. I’ve only been turning for a year ( I took classes with Jerry Kermode) but have been in the building industry for 45 years as a builder and architect. So far I have not unintentionally gone through the bottom of any wood turning project - so far! I did install a basic Jet brand filtration system for my lathe which works fairly well - not perfect but acceptable. Keep up your good work!
Great work again. 👍 I’ve gone through the bottom of several bowls, but you can combine them to make some good work. One of my favourite bowls I’ve turned is a Frankenstein monster of ruined bowls. Not sure how to put a picture on here.
Schön das auch Frauen dieses tolle Hobby betreiben. Schöne Arbeit aus Holzresten. 👍👍👍👍
😎
Amazing… I’m 75 and just starting to turn when I retire. I like how you teach
Thanks!! Have fun with it!

Classic Peggy, modest and humble yet magical. Beautiful. 😍😍😍🐱👤🐱👤

Haha!! 😊 thanks
I for one love the ads you put on your videos
Thanks, though I don’t get to choose which ads.
Scraps, good for soups, quilts, and pots!
Ha!
I love watching your videos of various projects, a great inspiration for a novice woodturner in Sydney Australia.
Awesome, thank you!
You are a favorite of mine. I really enjoyed the scrap wood project, beautiful.
Awesome!! Thank you!!! ✌️😊
It's good to see the scraps going to good use.
Indeed!
Scrap wood turning is the best ,cost no trees and uses waste wood that probably be burned and add to the air pollution. Makes a pretty vase .
Exactly!
Thank you for another beautiful piece especially out of scraps!! Also, thank you for using our pastes and having faith in them!!
Thank you so much! Love Ack's wood pastes!
Take that scrap wood you would normally throw away and create something nice. I love it. I'm getting ready to do a video of a segmented bowl made from scrap pallets. Keep up the good work. Oh, love the ads.👍
Cool, I haven’t tried segmented yet!

haha!!! Thanks!!
The scraps made a pretty vase! Thanks
Thanks for watching ✌️
Very nice project out of scraps. I've blown out the bottom of a few. It happens.......Well narrated as usual. TY
Thanks, Mike!

You made the right choice in the direction you turned it looks good and everyone that turns has made a few thin bottoms .
Thank you!
As usually, beautiful project.

Looks quite balanced proportionately especially where the darker wood is in the stack. It gives it good visual weight. Nice job for just winging it.
😊 thanks
