Big suggestion… since most people are still freezing in sheer tights but opaque tights are not everyone’s cup of tea… a lot of brands (calzedonia as well) do fleece lined tights or “thermal” tights in nude. They don’t look great by themselves BUT with a pair of sheer tights over it looks like you’re just wearing sheer tights while still keeping you warm ☺️

Yes - I'm one of those in freezing Canada (although, overall, this winter has been strangely mild. Not much snow), and I, unashamedly, wear a
"sleeping bag" when outside. 😆 More specific, if I'm going to be out in the elements for more than 15 minutes, I'll happily put on my full-length down-filled coat that has a lovely faux-fir lined hood, and wear a toque, thick mitts, and cozy boots. Once upon a time, I cared more about looking cute than warm, but I'm done freezing my tushy off. 😉 I wait, not-so-patiently, for May to wear the cute things.

Everyone is different and it also depends on how cold it is. Where I live we’ve had an extremely mild winter, it hasn’t even snowed once, so I’ve been able to look cute. Other years when it’s been super cold or I travel to cokd places (- Fahrenheit cold) I don’t care how I look because I’m just trying not to get frostbite.

Also, some of the folks who want to wear dark/black tights regularly and push back on that are brunettes or black haired folks, and that means our color palette can already naturally handle darker colors more regularly. That's also why although I wear lots of pink too, my pink tends to be magenta or fuschia or plum because I have dark hair and eyes and pale skin and need higher contrast and saturation to look balanced~

I love watching Freddie and have done so for a while but I pretty much ignore most of her specific advice since our colour palettes are totally different. Dark colours just look better with my brown hair and eyes and black looks better on me than brown since cool tones suit my skin more and brown blends into my hair and makes me look one-dimensional. This video just didn’t land with me very well. I sometimes wish Freddie would be slightly less prescriptive and sweeping when a bunch of her advice is really just for blonde white girls. Also beanies can absolutely be cute.

I remember going out once in the winter wearing my usual pink winter jacket with pretty big faux fur on the hood edge that comes almost to my knees and an old lady came up to me and complimented my jacket and said that it is so nice and refreshing to see someone who doesn't wear dark colors all the time because so many people do wear dark colors and it looks a bit depressing...so it seems that I made her day a bit brighter just by wearing my pretty pink jacket😊 I used to wear darker colors too but then I found your channel 3-4 years ago(more or less) and I am so happy that I did because I love your style and it makes me happy to see you proudly wear such beautiful clothes. It made me buy my first pink piece and it was that pink winter jacket that I was just telling a story about and I am so happy I got it. As you have shown me and I am sure everyone else who follows you, pretty colors and having your own style that is well put together really can brighten up someone's day and I aspire to do the same for unknown passerbys. On the bonus side, it also makes me look and feel better. 🤍💕

Just fyi, cashmere is supposed to be 8 times warmer than ordinary wool. I bought my husband his first cashmere sweater for Christmas (on sale) and he was very pleased at how it kept him warm in his chilly office. I wear a cotton base layer under wool sweaters; no itching, it keeps the sweaters cleaner longer, and I stay nice and cozy.

I’m with you completely on the wonderful, versatile roll neck/turtleneck! They are the perfect piece alone or layered. I prefer a finer knit to a bulky one but there are opportunities for both depending on the occasion/weather. And I agree that you can never go wrong with cashmere! 🥰😍🥰
I love a good hat and I’m particularly enjoying a cable knit beret as well as a cloche and a flat-topped cloche (aka bucket hat) this winter! 😉😊🥰 Sorry you’re not loving my bucket hat... maybe the beaded accent on the side makes it more palatable for you, but I’m loving it either way!
I admit I am not at my maximum cute potential when I put on my quilted puffer long-line coat (aka “Nanook of the North” coat) but I just couldn’t survive taking my dog for her outside excursions in -43F windchill this winter! (Crazy, dangerous, ridiculous temperatures we’re not used to where I live!) But anytime it is in the low 20sF or colder, I’m perfectly thrilled to be snuggly warm in my terribly unfortunate looking coat! 🙈😬🙈 We do what we must and sadly can’t always look our best when dealing with extreme temperatures. Thank goodness we can have other, more attractive options for the less extreme temperatures! 🥰😍🤩

I've usually had to resort to wool leggings under my white jeans, a couple of long sleeve shirts under my wool sweater and a big coat with a couple of sets of socks per foot so I can handle my outdoor work shifts and still look cute. Also that's crazy, I'm wearing almost the same earrings you showed haha.

The insoles are such a clever idea, and so is switching out your own belts on your coats! The base layers are essential, I totally wear rollnecks because of you, and over the knee boots really do make your legs look long and feel toasty. I just feel sad every time you say that opaque tights can't be worn! Black tights look SO chic and timeless, especially with a darker-toned or all black outfit. They really don't add any bulk to your legs--just warmth. Tights are always going to be more streamlined than wearing even the skinniest of jeans or trousers. These tips are all great for our mild, English winters. No one should trust 20/30 denier tights for a country where it snows, though!

But once in a while when I travel during winter, I love to wear vintage looking wool hats, they always look super luxurious and come in so many different shapes and colors, so berets are not the only option. I hate beanies. As for gloves, I'd rather wear leather/faux leather gloves with fleece lining, because it is easier to grab things with that texture, instead of wool, cashmere or acrylic that are so slippy. Especially if you have to drive, those are better and well, they come in all different colors. Mine are camel. 🥰

I think really cultivating my color palette like you suggest has made a huge difference in how I dress. Instead of having a ton of different outfits, all my pieces work together. It also just makes my outfits feel so much more like me. Which is especially difficult to do at work since I do a lot of field work in the outdoors. I still want to feel feminine and true to myself even if I need to be practical.

What about the snow-bunny Scandinavian look? I live in a climate that gets down to -15°C. My best hint is to wear real fur and real sheepskin. There's a reason why Scandinavians have sheepskin all over the place. Fake stuff just doesn't work when it's that cold. As a matter of fact, my first real fur items were made in Canada: a pair of sheepskin shearling snow boots and a pair of fur-covered mittens. Game-changers. I bought a shearling coat, too. It keeps me warm no matter how cold it gets.

Never thought about the handbag ideia for winter and I might say… it’s so true!!! They match perfectly because all the bags I’ve worn with coats have been crossbody or in the shoulder and they looked terrible. Loved the tip ♥️

Is it cold where I live? Absolutely not, it's between 20 and 22 degrees celcius and balmy as hell (for my city at least). Am I still watching this? Absolutely yes 🤷‍♀️

Freddy, I absolutely love you and everyone makes this error but not every place in Canada is freezing lol.
Being a lifelong Canadian I just want to tell you a bit about the weather here. Most people don’t realize that many parts of Canada are actually warmer than certain areas of the US. Toronto, for example, has the same climate as New York City. Vancouver, BC has a warmer climate than tons of US states.
And I have many areas of the UK saved on my weather app, and I believe that the weather you guys have is quite similar to what the people of southwestern Ontario experience.. and most of canadas population is concentrated in very few areas of the country, along the US border.
You are correct in saying that overall Canada is a very cold place, but there’s definitely nuances that would surprise you.
I can almost bet you that the weather in my city of Windsor, ON has been the same weather you’ve experienced in London this year, maybe even warmer, because it’s been a milder winter than usual. (Still cold, yes, but not as cold as it often is)

@@FreddyMyLove i just did some quick google searches and clearly I wrongly assumed that London is as cold as other areas of the UK. You have a point Freddy. London is not that cold compared to Toronto. My bad! London is starting to look like an amazing place to live ✨
