    Pretty good guide except for at 6:53
    Just thought I'd point it out for anyone coming along after. The ribbon cable to the 2.5" Drive should route straight down from the connector and only have one bend then over to the 2.5" drive. Like a backwards L, sitting atop the battery. There's actually a cutout in the plastic between the battery and 2.5" bay for this purpose. And the ribbon cable is usually pre bent at a 90 degree angle to route this way.
    Tucking and squishing the cable like that can actually cause a bad connection over time. Just one right angle bend through and have the ribbon lay flat is best.

    Modern hardware is usually hard to open for no good reason at all. I'll call this poor engineering since it does nothing but causing issues to the end user.

      Yes, I miss the days of an easy-access panel where you just had one screw to access the memory and SATA. I also hope manufacturers don't start moving to these ribbon connectors.

      agree 1000% I just tried to help my friend fix a fan issue with his HP Inspiron 15" laptop and upgrade his memory modules and OMG what a PITA to try and open this thing. Took me forever and Im worried about trying to get it back together after Im done with the fixes. Terrible design for serviceability and upgrading for owners. They dont want you to get in there they want you to pay loads of $$ to have them upgrade it for you. If they know its easy to upgrade then they know you will buy the lower end product without all the options and do the upgrades yourself for much cheaper (and better) parts and labor so.... yeah it sucks but they know . There are a few mfgs that cater to upgraders but that is few and far between. the days of twaeking and building your own pc (unless its a desktop) are over. for laptops its almost become a disposable product.

    Thanks for the vid! However after connecting the SDD with the 10pin cable the PC won't turn on, even if attached to the AC adapter. Still don't know why, like a short circuit, it's been a couple of months now thinking about this, I've bought a new cable in the past days but I don't know if this is going to fix the problem.
    Do you have any idea? (One user suggester me to detach also the RAM and not only the battery but that wasn't very helpful)

    • @accessrandom
      @accessrandom  2 года назад +1

      I don't believe the SSD cable would cause it not to turn on - I would check along the chain of the power supply and the soldering on the AC plug on the laptop. If the battery wasn't disconnected after it was opened, it is possible that something may have shorted out (with a touch of the screwdriver, for instance).
