Hell im going to be 70 in 20 days and rode a a heavy Indian Chieftain for yrs.Just bought a KLR 650 S and love it. Its a different nice experience to be able to go anywhere... Ride it
Awesome and congrats
I'm right there with you I'm 6'3" 270lbs only 40 years old. The old girl will keep going and fit to you just turn up the shock on the rear. If your going to add bags and camp just think about the top gun spring. Safe riding and great color option.
Thanks and same to you !
I am six foot one and my klr is made back in the times of one size . It is an 09 . I am also a bit younger. Beginning 53 .lol ! Sometimes I feel old but the klr and the wife keeps me young .
Greta point, riding this off road makes me feel that way too now that you mention it!
I'm shorter with a 30" inseam. I had a gen 1 KLR , I could barely throw my leg over I usually stood on the peg, much easier. I'm 62 and really miss the 2 wheel therapy. Been thinking about another KLR because of their prices. Great video!
Funny that you say that and he was shocked. I'm totally new to motorcycles and my first is a T-7. While doing my research into what type of bike I wanted, out of all of them, ADV bikes peaked my interest the most. Mainly because they seemed to provide a blend of all the other bikes. You can cruise in it on the freeway, catch wind and zip around fast enough to hit that adrenalin but not so fast that It feels like it belongs on the track ONLY and even hit the dirt like a true light dirtbike. What's to hate?!
As for age, I've seen more men in their 50's on these bikes than any other age group. The stereotype says it's men in their midlife crisis phase who are looking to "see if they still got it" or to simply spark that flame up again.. Maybe there's some truth to that but tbh, I see absolutely nothing wrong with that. In fact, I commend and respect that. In a world being taken over by technology and remedies to every physical aspect of our lives, these adv bikes and the roads they're meant to cross will test you down to your soul. Maybe one day you can convince him to give it a try and hell, who knows... He might have a complete change of heart about them.
So well said and I hope I keep my mid life crisis for another 30 years!
Bet your buddy ends up getting one lol…the KLR is a tall bike I just bought the 23 Adventure model this year and it’s my second KLR, I’m 58 yrs old 5’7” tall 165 lbs. I just put the S model seat on my bike and have no problems getting on or off it. Enjoyed your video keep them coming :) ride safe!
ADV bikes seem to be extremely popular with our age group, and although it’s hard to explain, I understand completely!
I got tired of seeing cool looking roads. I couldn't take my HD down. Wasn't willing to drop it or scratch the paint. Now I go everywhere and anywhere I want.
@@wardog3217 This why I will never give up my ADV bike!!
54 and just got an '09 KLR last week. It has 2" lowering links, I have a 27" inseam (yeah, just call me stumpy), and I get on from the high side stepping on the right peg. Being as how I'm heavy, the sag on the soggy suspension is enough that I can almost flat foot the bike on level ground once aboard. I also have a cruiser, an '07 V Star 1300 when I want to go fast...my KLR will likely never see the high side of 65 MPH. It's my back-road, enjoy-the-scenery, play-in-the-dirt machine, and perfect for the 11,000 miles of unpaved roads here in Wyoming. Ride safe, have fun, and ignore your birthday!
Like that, ignore the birthday
I'll be 62 in a few months and I just bought my second KLR
Juts a couple years behind you, and also on my second KLR.
Sold all my go-fast bikes and Harleys.
I've proven myself on sport bikes and no longer have the need to be seen on chrome.
This one does everything I want a bike to do now.
Horse blankets . ..
Thick ones are so show/race horses do not grow a winter coat...
Thin ones are to keep biting Horseflys and Deer flys off 👍🏻
Just bought the 22' Adventure this year at 62. I'm 6'1 and 254. Love the bike and I actually started doing stretching exercises to make it easier to get the leg over the seat. Unfortunately I'm off the bike for the next 8 weeks due to cracking the top of my left tibia two weeks ago on the SM 500. Slow speed drop and my left foot just planted the wrong way. Can't wait to get back on and tackle the SM 500 again this spring.
oh no...recover quickly!
@bodeanaventures thank you!
I've been riding since May of this year (2023). My '23 KLR (same color as yours!) is my first bike, technically the third motorcycle I've ever ridden. Part of my choice came down to getting a bike that "fit" me, given my size, and also fit what I wanted to do. Is the KLR too big to start on? Maybe. I do kinda think I should've started on something smaller, but I still love it. Learning on such a tall and relatively heavy bike has taught me a lot about riding. I appreciate your input in this video!
my pleasure and we have fun bikes!
I am 54, heavy and have been riding reincarnations of my first bike (67 Triumph Bonneville) all that time. Mostly shorter rides up to the mountains not too far from Seattle metro. My bike was stolen 2 years ago and I thought I'd hang it up. Well.. Triumph came out with their Tiger Sport 660. It looked like a good all-rounder particularly since I'd have to do mostly city riding. But I didn't want to buy a new bike, so I had a look around for something similar. I picked up a 2009 BMW F650GS (798cc twin) with all the Touratech gear, bags, etc.. in late July. Since then I've put a couple thousand miles on it. My range is vastly improved by the ergonomics of the adventure setup over my old British standards. I've taken it up into British Columbia, out to the Olympic Peninsula, on ferry-island loops with pals of mine. I'm really enjoying it. Wish I'd made the move sooner.
Nice and sounds like a great trip, think I will plan something on this bike. Ride safe and thanks!
First amazing audio my friend! I do own both types of bikes and being an old man it has given me new life! I love them both for different reasons. So as I say you do you and be happy. Ride Safe
Thank you sir I’m glad to hear the audio. Sounds good. Definitely a big change for me.
I live around you and love seeing where you are when you say you don't where you are to see it I do
So I can call you when I get lost? 😂
I’m only 5’9””, getting on my DR 650 would have been impossible if I didn’t use the pegs to climb aboard!!
I've a barely 32" inseam, barely, and I put raising links on my gen. 2 KLR. I like 'em tall!
I see that 👊
I'm the same size as you. I put an Eibach Spring ERS Linear 450 rear spring at preload 1, rebound is around 1.5 turns out. Progressive fork springs kit. I got these parts off Happy Trails. It rides super comfortable and controllable off and on-road.
I bought a KLR to get back into riding because it’s a big bike and I’m a big guy. I wanted something that would fit me better. I’m currently riding a smaller bike that I love, but I miss the proportions of the KLR and have been thinking about getting another one.
Good luck on that, I love this thing
I'm 61 , had bikes years ago like 40 years ago lol, I bought a klr 650 and found the seat height a bit hi . I'm 5 ft 10, so I bought the lower Kawasaki seat and it's perfect now. Love your videos buddy
thanks!
Don’t worry about it,I have a 2011 KLR and I am 67. I’m retired so I get in no hurry anyway. The older I get the slower I go. I’m gonna try to keep going till I come to a complete stop. RIDE SAFE!!!!!!!!
Thanks and hope we both get many more years of riding, this KLR has been a lot of fun.
I'm 59, gen2 yellow klr, 6'.. I always cowboy load.. after an injury/ surgery I'd back up, sit sidesaddle, & lift my leg over the bars 😅.. worked great, still do that sometimes.. used to ride a ct90 all over n Michigan woods, my klr is my adult version 👍
I'm 61 and I've got a roadking and a Honda xr150l but through the years I've had to many different makes and models to list from strictly dirt bikes to trikes and multiple heavy weight cruisers and I'm not shying away from any types of bikes dirt or road . Only thing I'm not encouraging anymore is riding 2 up with my wife. It's not worth the risk to me. I don't want to ruin her future if the unexpected mishap would occur. If she rides in the future it will be on a trike. 👍
my wife would be totally good with a trike one day
Don't worry about being an old man, I'm 64 with a 15 year old son . I bought 2 new KLR'S this summer , we're planning a trip from Dallas to Yosemite next summer. Our longest jaunt was 300 miles in a day (wasn't too bad on the butt). You'll do fine young man!
thanks and that trip sounds awesome!
I bought my ‘22 KLR when I was 66 for western Mass and Vermont dirt roads. Hope Michigan is just as nice!
Sometimes I feel that Michigan is one big dirt road Mark. Ride safe.
I have owned two klr 650's and they were good bikes, I'm 6'2" and weigh 292
Bike fits, mini sizes and shapes for sure
I'm 5'-10", 240 lbs, and 62 yo......and threw my leg over one today. No big deal. I don't see what the fuss is about.
I'm an old 65yo 5'10" fat bastard and have no problem throwing my leg over my stock gen1. I ride that bike over terrain sure to curl your short hairs or in my case a level 5 pucker factor. Love my klr and I have owned all types of bikes.
I am 68.5 years old and I ride a 2012 Ultra Classic Electra Glide CVO and a 2022 KLR650 Traveler
You are as old as you feel and your will. The youth in a man never dies unless you murder it.
Well said and I hope to get 20 more years at least from 59.
We need to do the MABDR!!!
I'm 62, 5ft 6 and ive had a gen2 klr 650 and currently a transalp 750. Sold my Harley because I just didnt ride it much compared to my adv bikes. Just because your older doesnt mean you cant ride down a dirt road or take a trail once in a while. Besides I'm not in the best shape but still more active than a lot of people in thier 30's and 40's. Mericans can be pretty lazy and close minded. I wonder if your friend is shocked you bought outside the Harley brand?
Maybe just it’s different riding from what he knows of me. Glad I did it
Most adventure bikes are too tall for me. Im like a kid on a swing set, legs just dangling there. 🤣🤣 I did come real close to buying a BMW 1250 GS low version, before I bought my Road Glide Limited. But the dealer rubbed me the wrong way. I am looking a getting a second bike, not sure what. I want them all. Lol. Nice video 👍
thanks Roy
The KLR is for big guys... Try being short and riding one! Good luck!
It’s a tall one for sure
2022 KLR and 2022 KTM 500 excf owner.
Not my first just newest. 6’2 245 and 58. Get that leg over and ride
I am 6' 5" and 66 yrs old. I HAD a '21 Honda Africa twin Adventure sport ES with DCT. I could NOT throw my leg over it, unless I stood on a peg first. I will never buy a bike that has a DCT transmission ever again. That bike was too tall, two top heavy and way more power than what I was used to. If I ever get back on a bike again it will have to be something with a manual transmission.
😎👍👍
Age in the ADV world is wide, compared to the well I don’t want to get you started 😂.
Well, I must admit, it would be hard to argue with you on that one 😂
2:44 wait, you don’t care what I think? Dang it….
Did you just say go blue and Pittsburgh yellow in the same video? And here I thought you were a good guy…
Jk. Love the content brother! Keep it up.
Haha well Go Blue is reference to Michigan college football and I did live in Pittsburgh a few years. Appreciate you and ride safe
@@bodeanaventures Well, I’m an Ohio state grad and a browns fan. But we can still be KLR friends
😢😢😢 fk yur feelins 😅😅😅
Errrr, shouldn’t it be “Too Big” on the video thumbnail, not “To Big”?🤔 Typo Patrol!
Surely glad you pointed that out
...you lost me at "Harleys" and "cruisers."
